Divorce 13: Princess Anne Laurence née Mountbatten-Windsor High-conflict divorce with children; Remarriage (birth data from Astrodatabank.com) Princess Anne is a public figure whose life milestones are well known.  The Vimshottari dasha timing of her first marriage; birth of children; divorce;  and second marriage timing are useful examples of how the system works. Princess Anne's radix also offers an excellent example of Kuja Dosha and its effect on marriage, as well as the general lifelong implications of owning a very powerful Mars.   The most famous facts about Anne are her perpetually sour expression during the troubled first marriage, her remarkable sporting abilities (she is an Olympic athlete), her 93 mph speeding ticket, and her aggressive dogs.  Of course there are many other interesting things about her as there are about any intelligent, good-hearted person.  But the fact that these media items form a major aspect of her public presence are in fact attributable to the remarkable strength of her rising Mars. These facts are from Wikipedia: On November 14, 1973 Princess Anne married Mark Phillips her children are Peter Phillips (born 15 November 1977); and Zara Phillips (15 May 1981) In August, 1989, the Princess Royal and Mark Philips announced their intention to separate. The marriage had been under strain for many years. The couple divorced in April, 1992.  On December 12, 1992, Anne remarried, the first royal divorcee since Henry VIII of England to do so. She chose to remarry in the Church of Scotland since the Church of England forbade divorcees from remarrying in their churches. She married Timothy Laurence in Crathie Kirk near the Balmorals Estate, Aberdeenshire. They have no children together. Timing of Marriages & Children Female [first] marriage timing: Chandra/Shukra, where Shukra is lord of navamsha lagna. Although not important for marriage timing, Shukra is also lagnesha, suggesting that being married was an essential component of her public identity at the time. gochara Rahu/Ketu in Sagittarius/Gemini - not a classical position for the nodes, except that they do contact navamsha Kuja  This is an especially interesting & unusual case due to the peculiar constraints of the European monarchic system.  As described by a biographer "the royal family required [Mark] Phillips to provide a semen sample prior to his marriage, to confirm that he was capable of producing an heir. Two children were indeed born to the couple."  Indeed the marriage contract may not have been fulfilled until childbirth, which would explain why marriage nodes were not in place until the birth of their first child. Female [first] childbirth timing: Kuja/Shani, - Shani = L-5 = first child  gochara Rahu/Ketu in Virgo/Pisces, crossing the mother's natal nodes AND navamsha nodes.   The nodal return to both radix & navamsha axes suggests that childbirth was a very significant, self-and-life defining event for Anne - a vital fulfillment of the marriage promise.  Much more than ritual marriage, childbirth created major, and wanted, changes in her identity and lifestyle. Female [first] divorce timing: The timing of Anne's divorce is rather difficult to pin down, since it is known (through the successful paternity suit) that Captain Phillips fathered an illegitimate daughter in 1985.  Presumably the married couple were alienated before then. Their legal divorce in April 1992 arrived five years after announced separation in 1989.  We could really take 1985, 1989, or 1992 as divorce years.   Sanjay Rath opines that in cases of significant public illusion, the arudha of the 8th house will produce public recognition that the marriage is finished.  This public awareness does not necessarily correspond to the legal divorce, especially where the estate is highly complex as is certainly the case in royal families.  Following Rath's advice: L-8 = Kuja, who occupies 6-from-8; the arudha of house-8 = 6th-from-Kuja, = Ari bhava.  Lord of Ari = Shani.  Anne's Shani oppresses her Moon & casts drishti upon her Thula-Kuja lagna, her child-house, and her house-8 of divorce. This is a reasonable timing choice.  Therefore, without knowing the intimate details, we will set the divorce at the notoriously difficult Rahu/Shani period. Rahu/Shani gochara Rahu/Ketu have returned to Pisces/Virgo, ending the 9-year cycle which began with the birth of her first child.  Nodes returning to natal axes signify a major life change, every 9 years - with major shifts every 18 years. Female [second] marriage timing: December 12, 1992 Rahu/Ketu -  where Ketu is ipso facto a marriage-maker.  B.V. Raman confirms that, along with Shukra, Shani & Rahu, Ketu can give marriage during his periods, whether He gives the effect of L-1/L-7 or not.   gochara Rahu/Ketu are moving through Scorpio/Taurus, where they cross the 2/8 axis in both radix & navamsha Observations on possible improvements due to Wisdom of Age in the second marriage: Using my favorite method of finding the matching energy that binds any partnership via the lord of radix L-7's navamsha, we see that Princess Anne's first marriage, whilst Karmicly inescapable, was difficult indeed. There is limited improvement in her second marriage, because radix L-2 is also Kuja.  (indicating inter alia that her second husband is also a military man.) However considering that the culprit graha is Guru in Shani's sign, where Shani is Karaka for Age, there may be benefit of self-knowledge gained with Age in the second marriage. L-7 = Mesha; Lord Kuja occupies Dhanus navamsha; so the link from her own personality - the lesson to be learned from the spousal mirror - no matter how difficult - arises from Anne's own Guru/Kumbha/5.  This is a notably difficult position which indicates an element of Anne's ego-personality which Captain Phillips, whatever his other motives, was karmicly destined to bring to her conscious attention.   Remember we marry for a spiritual purpose, whether we know it or not.  That purpose is to bring forward into consciousness, aspects of our own subconsciously repressed belief and behavior which the partner will mirror back to us.   Behari says of Guru/Kumbha in the fifth house: You will be unhappy in many ways. Your education will be obstructed; siblings and colleagues may entangle you in litigation. Your own righteousness and egotism will often embroil you in a welter of confusion. Your philosophy, actions, and achievements will all be full of contradictions. The way marriage usually works when a negative attribute forms the matching-energy link, is that the native will presume these negative qualities arise exclusively from the spouse.  The marriage is unpleasant with much blaming and discomfort.  It is only later, after the separation, that the partners might (ideally) acknowledge & accept their own role in the creating the negative link. Second marriage is psychically much the same due to an identical matching energy link.   L-2 is also Kuja, who occupies Dhanus navamsha, making the marching energy link Guru.  Thus, the identical psychic energy is present. The sole advantage in her second marriage is age, which is a significant factor in marriages started after age 42 (as hers was).  Guru occupying a sign of Shani, the karaka for age, also strengthens the advantage of self-knowledge gained over time. However, the difficulties remain embedded in the Princess's personality, and unless she acquires conscious awareness of the role she plays in evoking the "righteousness and egotism" associated with Guru's position, the second marriage also becomes strained. May all beings venerate life as a state of deep spiritual intimacy.
