Divorce 8
Eighteen -Year Union with Children
High Conflict
This professional couple enjoyed high levels of material success during their 23-year partnership. Their energy, goal-orientation, social compatibility & competitive natures fueled two ambitious, high-achieving careers.
After 18 years of marriage, a virulent transit of Rahu-Ketu through Thula-Mesha axis triggered a litigious, high conflict divorce.
Both partners have powerful Rahu-Saturn-Mars yogas, which set them up for exciting, demanding, & high-powered international challenges.
They maintained a vibrant international social life, focused on luxury entertaining. They were socially rewarded for their risk-positive business activities with lovely homes, cheerful friends, & fascinating foreign adventures.
While enjoying the best life had to offer, their public appearance remained admirably smooth. They had some periods of calm mutual appreciation.
However, early in the marriage, they began to argue vehemently. Each blamed the other for lack of emotional closeness & marital satisfaction.
Despite increasing financial blessings, a delightful social life, & two beautiful children, they stayed locked in a pattern of violent internal conflict. Marital counseling proved unsuccessful.
As the years the violence of their conflicts escalated, but neither spouse was willing to make changes in their own behaviors unless the other changed first.
Female nativity features three mixed benefic-malefic graha in 7th-from-Chandra, which signals at least two marriages:
"The woman will quit her husband and marry another if the 7th house from the Ascendant or the Moon-occupied signs be found with malefics as well as benefics."
~~ Bhrigu Sutram Ch. 24 Shloka 9
Also Guru in domain-2 is frequently a signal of both wealth and multiple marriages.
Male nativity also features uccha Guru in domain-2 suggesting significant wealth through the family knowledge base. In consideration along with Shukra + Ketu in vyaya bhava, suggests much delusion regarding women, and several marriages in the current lifetime.
Both are dedicated parents. Even while facing the violence in their relationship, they remained morally committed to preserving family life.
However, when both partners experienced bhukti of classic divorce lords along with upheaval of Rahu/Ketu transits, their disagreements exploded into a highly adversarial, bitter, and expensive divorce.
Female marriage 1:
Guru/Shukra - Shukra = karaka and = L-7 navamsha
Gochara Rahu/Ketu return to radix axis in Pisces/Virgo
Male marriage 1:
Rahu/Budha - Budha = L-1 navamsha
Gochara Rahu/Ketu crossing navamsha lagna in Pisces/Virgo
Female divorce 1:
Shani/Chandra - Chandra = L-2
Gochara Rahu/Ketu crossing navamsha lagna & navamsha nodes in Mesha/Thula
Male divorce 1:
Guru/Ketu-
Ketu = "I give up" = divorce karaka, giving effect of navamsha lord L-8 Budha
Gochara Rahu/Ketu crossing radix Chandra in Mesha/Thula
Female marriage #2
Shani/Kuja - Kuja = L-1 navamsha
Gochara Rahu/Ketu = Kumbha/Simha, crossing radix Moon
Post-divorce: Female remarries -- but Male does not
Here is a good Jyotisha lesson about the attraction-Rahu and repulsion-Ketu!
Both partners expressed their desire to remarry quickly after this divorce.
Female remarries with 2 years:
Immediately after the period of L-2 Chandra, female entered the bhukti of her L-7 navamsha lord Kuja. As soon as gochara Rahu-Ketu entered Kumbha-Simha axis and crossed her radix Moon, she remarried.
Of course, not every period of the navamsha L-1/L-7 or the karakas Shukra, Rahu, or Shani will bring marriage. Regardless of the native's stated intentions, the marriage-making graha *must* be empowered in the navamsha or there will be no material marriage.
Female's navamsha Kuja is very powerful in navamsha, and yuti "do it now" marriage-karaka Rahu in both D-1 and D-9. When the gochara Rahu-Ketu condition is met, this Kuja faced no obstacles and a remarriage occurred.
Male delays remarriage:
immediately after the bhukti of divorce karaka Ketu (who gave the effect of navamsha lord, L-8 Budha) male entered Shukra bhukti.
Male's vargottama, swakshetra Shukra appears to be empowered to create marriage during Shukra periods. *But* Shukra's marriage power is damaged by Ketu, who gives distancing, disenchantment, and doubt.
Despite the fulfillment of both conditions - gochara Rahu-Ketu crossing the male's navamsha lagna AND the bhukti of marriage karaka Shukra, the male did not remarry.
Rahu amplifies & motivates the grahas He associates with, while Ketu undermines, sabotages, & disturbs the functions of the grahas He associates with.
In the male nativity, Ketu receives drishti of Shani, which reinforces Ketu's natural inclination toward separation & discontent, while Rahu amplifies Shani, intensifying the native's resistance to change. (Since Rahu exemplifies sudden, high-desire change and Shani resists change, Rahu-Shani pairing always creates internal conflict for the native.)
In the female nativity, Ketu receives drishti of Kuja, which is not separative like the male's effect, but rather reinforces Ketu's tendency toward hyperactivity & disconnected focus. Rahu amplifies his cotenant Kuja, intensifying the native's impulsiveness and physical drive to movement and making her an agent of relentless desire-driven change.
Rahu and Ketu affect the timing of Remarriage
Male: During the portion of Shukra bhukti which coincided with Rahu-Ketu transit to the male's navamsha lagna, the normal conditions to create the marriage - that the native said he desired - appeared to have been fulfilled.
However, Ketu kept the male locked into an psycho-emotionally obsessive pattern of guilt & blaming toward the 1st spouse (L-7/L-12 Shukra), and Ketu induced severe doubt about remarriage.
By contrast, the female partner was primarily under the spell of Kuja, who becomes highly proactive when super-amplified by Rahu. She remarried quickly.
Assessment: Rahu + Shani + Kuja = Catastrophic Implosion
This was a remarkably violent & adversarial divorce that shocked the couple's circle of friends & family.
Some Jyotisha observations on why things got so bad:
Both spouses suffer from Rahu yuti empowered malefics.
These Rahu-with-Malefic Yogas attract both of them into extreme situations.
Male partner = Krittika lagna, known for patronizing and power-seeking behavior. Male exhibits criticism & control patterns projecting his own ego conflict into the marriage.
Male's Shani (frustration, constraint, criticism) occupies *both* radix lagna & navamsha lagna, casting Shani's critical drishti onto both material marriage (D-1) and psycho-emotional marriage (D-9).
radix Shani/Rahu in lagna- Shani karaka for oppression & negative control, Rahu magnifies Shani
Shani parivartan L-1/L-6 Kuja - Shani represses anger but Kuja expresses it. Intensifies long-running, critical anger patterns, but Shani prevents change and Kuja prevents maturation. Chronic anger reinforced by the Shani-Kuja parivartan.
Shani rising in D-9 - Das/Behari says "You feel a strange suffocation & restrictions similar to imprisonment. You feel quite miserable, suffer from stomach disorders, blood pressure problems, & mental constraints. You are deeply critical & frustrated about everything around you."
Female partner = Ardra lagna, Rahu-ruled and known for "wild" behavior. Female exhibits violently argumentative screaming, compulsive self-justifying rationalization, and denial of aggression
Kuja/Rahu in both D-1 and D-9 gives physical volatility, excess impulse-driven movement
Kuja/Kanya exacerbates critical argumentativeness & extreme rationalization, adds volatility with mental-mood swings
Kuja-Shani mutual aspect: provides a lifetime of internal conflict between individual freedom versus social obligation. Internal stress may split the personality into two mutually exclusive sets of behavior.
Shani owns Chandra's house and casts drishti upon Chandra. Given the internal conflict between Kuja & Shani, Shani's impact on Chandra will give a profound depression which the native will vigorously deny with excessive physical & verbal activity.
There is no suggested solution to these personality conundrums.
Each partner is individually besieged with internal conflict.
Due to the prominent role that the malefics play in their navamsha lagnas, and on Rahu-Ketu axes, each spouse's individual stress is easily vented upon the partner.
They are both in too much pain to look Inward. They both instead look Outward, and believe the Other is causing their Problems.
Yikes.
[male, Budha]
If Randhra's lord is in Ari Bhava, the native will win over his enemies.
- BPHS, Ch 24, shloka 90
[male, Kuja]
If Mars is in the house of a malefic, or is associated with a malefic or even if he is in his own sign (Aries or Scorpio), the native will lose his wife.
-- Bhrigu Sutram, Ch. 3 Shloka 54-65
Prognosis for the second marriage - timing & qualities of spouse:
Female second marriage:
Qualities of 2nd spouse are seen from
domain-2
2nd-from-Chandra
angle from Chandra to domain-2
- L-2 is a Bright Moon in Kumbha, indicating a deep emotional identification with the second spouse
Soma receives drishti from Shani, Surya, Shukra & Budha.
2nd spouse is a complex person with traits of serious responsibility (Shani), strong performance ego (Surya), attractiveness and love of beauty (Shukra) and youthfulness (Budha).
The 2nd spouse will have many of the qualities of her father, including unfortunately much of the depression indicated above via Shani's influence upon Chandra and the inauspicious angle of Chandra occupying 8th-from-2nd.
10th-from-2nd indicates the career of the 2nd spouse = Mesha lagna. Career will be administrative, verbal/critical, & prone to constant changes due to L-Mesha = Kuja/Rahu/Kanya, 6th-from-relative-10th.
house-3 indicates the in-laws of the second spouse. House-3 is a busy & vivacious place for the native, suggesting much validation & pleasure in socializing with the family of the 2nd spouse.
Male second marriage:
Dhanau is lagna for 2nd marriage. L-2 = uccha Guru L-2/L5. The 2nd spouse may be a professional educator or priest, perhaps in government service. Guru is synonymous with wisdom, education, children, & religion. Uccha Guru in radix Karka, priestly & wise, = karaka for universities & temples. Guru in navamsha Meena, suggests an advisor and poet.
Similar to female, L-2 = 8th-from-2nd, generally inauspicious for character of 2nd spouse. However, uccha Guru loses no integrity in 8th angles. Auspiciousness is recovered.
Guru receives drishti from uccha Kuja, suggesting a wealthy & successful business professional . However, two uccha planets in mutual opposition will somewhat cancel each other out. So, this 2nd spouse will not be dramatically successful, but certainly professionally respectable within her field.
10th-from-2nd for career of 2nd spouse = Kanya lagna. Career will be secretive (covert diplomacy or psychotherapy etc.) & verbal, administrative or instructional, due to L-Kanya = Budha being 8th-from-relative-10th.
Timing for Male remarriage:
Guru/Rahu while gochara Rahu/Ketu in Dhanau/Mithuna (2010-2011)
however Guru/Rahu second half of bhukti, when Vrischika/Vrishabha cross his radix lagna/nodes, is also viable for remarriage. (Occurs year 2011-2012.)
Rahu in Guru's navamsha is marriage-empowered; Bhukti of Guru/Rahu coordinates with required Rahu-Ketu transit(s)
Male: Assessment: Ketu
Ketu yuti Shukra for radix Vrischika lagna occurs in indulgent, sensual Vrishabha in the seventh house of the marriage partner.
L-7 Swakshetra Shukra here is an empowered maraka. Ketu will distort Shukra's good & bad qualities, always contributing an underlying disenchantment & discontent to matters of marriage & partnership. Also Ketu adds denial & frustration to other items in Shukra's typical portfolio such as addictions & overindulgences in all forms of sensual pleasure. Ketu also deprives the native of satisfying sleep, because Ketu disturbs L-12 Shukra for sleep.
This native will be blessed with a beautiful & charming spouse. There will be plenty of money for the spouse to dress well, dine well, & entertain lavishly. But swakshetra Shukra in kendra gives "too much sweetness" through karako bhavo nashto powerful.
He owns both the 7th of marriage & the 12th of extramarital affairs. L-7 Shukra yuti Ketu, in 7 while owning 12, suggests excess pleasures of fine wines or other expensive indulgences; secret foreign liaisons of the spouse (not necessarily liaisons for the native; Shukra/7 defines public behavior of the spouse). Caviar, fine wines & perfumes, delicious foods, fabulous sweet things, pornographic imagery ("eye candy") & the best drugs money can buy, all enjoyed in the most luxurious conditions with other finely dressed & scented, wealthy & pampered persons. There are many sexual & sensual indulgences. (No wonder Shukra is called Guru of the Demons!)
Ketu will encourage denial and stagnation, which prevents the native from fully enjoying this sensual excess. The spouse perhaps enjoys it more thoroughly, without Ketu's erosive disenchantment. But the native himself will be never satisfied: moving from drug to drug, from sensual excess to sensual excess. The spouse is permissive with him/herself; affairs are part of permission to enjoy Shukra's strength in swakshetra. But Ketu ensures an unhappy result.
Ketu shows an addictive personality, moving always from one indulgence to the next, never satisfied, and largely in denial about the depth & scope of the addictive behaviors.
May all beings venerate life as a state of deep spiritual intimacy.
