Kanya Lagna sample gem recommendation - Barbara Pijan Lama Jyotisha

Namaste Valdemar:

It is important to appreciate that gems do not possess 'magical' powers, and superstition toward gemstones is not warranted. Flawless gems, which are properly energized by mantra and positive intention, have a "signal-repeater" capacity similar to a radio crystal.

Positioned at sensitive points along the body's psychic nerve system, gems can strengthen and repeat the higher thoughts which one is consciously or unconsciously thinking and believing.

Therefore the nature of the thoughts and beliefs which one holds are critically important to getting successful results from wearing a flawless gemstone.

Each person is born with a 'default' set of beliefs and expectations. Each graha represents an area of belief. For example, Shani manifests beliefs about material survival; Shukra carries out beliefs about pleasure; Mangala expresses beliefs about physical action; and Surya plays out beliefs about divine creativity and intelligence.

Each graha rules a particular Amsha, receives drishti, and has other specialized characteristics which determine the beliefs and expectations that the native will carry into this life. With sufficient spiritual attention, these thoughts are fully capable of rejuvenation and improvement at the source. However, most people will operate with an essentially unchanging, repetitive set of inborn subconscious expectations, throughout their busy lives.

Gem prescriptions are made on the presumption that the karma of habitual thought and belief will remain largely unchanged during the person's life. However, it is important to appreciate that this karma (the mandate to act and react) can be changed through reflective intention at any time. Nevertheless, the compulsion toward repetitive, culturally-reinforced thought is so strong that most people indeed do not take the initiative to change it.

Therefore, for better or for worse, gem prescriptions based on the condition of the planets at birth do tend to be quite accurate.

My gem prescription policy is to strengthen weak natural or temporal benefics only. If a graha has good qualities which could benefit from a little boost, the traditional rules of Jyotisha suggest that - under appropriate circumstances (proper intention, proper energizing of the gem, and correct timing of application) - a gem can help strengthen positive outcome from the good thoughts guiding that graha's action in this life.

Let's have a look at the graha in your kundali, Valdemar, to determine which gemstones might be beneficial for you.

  • Radix lagna= 1st padaa of Hasta nakshatra, ruled by Chandra

  • Chandra= 1st padaa of Chitra nakshatra, ruled by Mangala

  • Swamsha= Ashwini nakshatra

  • Karakamsha = domain-12, Simha

Kanya lagna is a common feature of Jyotisha nativities amongst leaders of nations. Note these distinguished samples from the 20th century:

  • UK-PM Tony Blair

  • UK-PM Winston Churchill

  • USA Pres 28 Woodrow Wilson (Hasta)

  • USA Pres 33 Harry Truman (Hasta)

  • USA Pres 34, Dwight D. Eisenhower (Hasta)

  • USA Pres 35 John F. Kennedy (Hasta)

  • USA Pres 42 Bill Clinton (Hasta)

  • USA Pres 32 Franklin D. Roosevelt

1. Surya = lord of vyaya bhava, in Meena rashi [Uttarabhadrapada nakshatra]; in 7th-from-Chandra; receiving Parashari drishti of Chandra. D-9 = Simha. Unless the L-12 is also the ruler of another, more auspicious house (and Surya rules only one house, so this is not possible) it is not beneficial to strengthen L-12. When you have time, read the Jyotisha commentary for the effects of Surya-Meena-7 upon marriage.

Ruby = Ravi-ratna = is not recommended.

2. Chandra = L-11, occupying domain-1 Kanya; Chitra nakshatra, receiving Parashari drishti of L-12 Surya, lagnesha/L-10 Budha, and Rahu.

  • Clearly you have a complex and strong personality, highly gainful, intuitive, and not in the least afraid to fight for what you want.

  • Chitra " enriches his friends and destroys his enemies" . In Simha navamsha, Soma (with Surya) always aware of one' s own self-interest. . In Simha 9th navamsha, suggests the life partner is a politician or a theatrical performer.

  • It is not beneficial to strengthen the L-11 unless the lord of 11 also rules another good house, and this is not possible for Chandra; therefore,

Moti (Vedic pearl) is not recommended.

3. Mangala = inauspicious L-3 and L-8 for Kanya lagna; in Vrischika rashi with Ketu, inauspicious 3rd-from-Chandra from which Kuja is lord of 6th-from-Soma.

  • Receiving Parashari drishti of Rahu.

  • Kuja is a major trouble-maker for Kanya lagna, Valdemar, and as a result ,

the Mangala-ratna (flawless Coral) is not recommended at any time during the incarnation.

You have finished the Mangala mahadasha in December 1990 at the age of 6, therefore Mangala cannot do any good and could cause harm if not curtailed.

4. Budha = lagnesha, lord of domain 1 and 10; neechcha in Meena with Surya, receiving Parashari drishti of Chandra. Budha is generally a good planet for Kanya lagna, albeit He is fallen and combust (asta) - Budha will benefit from strengthening.

I recommend the Budha-strengthening emerald for you Valdemar. Budha-ratna may not help your marriage(your spouse is very willful) yet Budha-ratna will help your career - particularly if you choose a legal agreements specialty such as law court debate, negotiations, arbitration ,etc.

5. Guru = lord of bandhu and yuvati bhava, in 4th-from lagna and 4th-from Chandra. Drishti of Shani. Guru is a lovely, idealistic graha in most respects, and particularly beneficial for careers in areas like international trade relations, cross-cultural competency training, multi-lingual and multi-cultural education . You will have very nice houses and cars during the Guru mahadasha that started in Oct 2008 at your age 24.

The Pukhraj (yellow sapphire) is advised with the possible caveat that if there are disagreements in marriage pukhraj should be removed.

6. Shukra = lord of dharma and dhana bhava; Shukra receiving Parashari drishti of Mangala + Ketu.

  • Shukra is normally a good planet for Kanya lagna but in your case Valdemar I do not recommend the diamond gem.

  • The reason is that Shukra occupies domain-6, where Venus the " asura-guru" teacher of the demons is associated with promiscuity drunkenness and gambling.

  • Shukra in 6 for any lagna is often an indicator of addictive pleasuring behaviors.

  • This happens because the native likes modernity and one believes that moral injunctions are old-fashioned; therefore one may indulge with impunity.

  • You would benefit immensely from taking a vow of abstinence from alcohol; if the alcohol (and other drugs) are removed from possibility then the opportunity for prostitution and gambling is much reduced.

In your case, I do not recommend the Shukra-ratna, white sapphire (diamond) .

7. Shani = lord of putra and ari bhava; in domain-2 uchcha Thula. No incoming drishti. Vishaka nakshatra. Also 2nd-from-Chandra. Exalted Shani is typically beneficial for " polemical abilities" for the Kanya lagna native, bringing more auspice to possible careers in legal argument and international trade law. Be aware however that even in the uchcha (exalted) state, Shani in 2 can give periods of low funding.

You financial situation will expand and contract and you may gain a reputation as a miser, despite the nice houses and cars that Guru brings you! You are a great believer in social justice and this is the best use of your verbal eloquence.

You are very sensitive to the plight of the working classes; and you may win financial judgments on behalf of the little people. However beware of some tendency to be sensually involved with employees.

It is recommended to wear the Blue Sapphire for Shani, but ONLY during the period of Shani = your age 40-59.

Philosophy of Gem Prescription:

There is a school of Jyotisha practice which philosophizes that strengthening a naturally malefic graha is an effective method of reversing its karma. I do not agree with this school of thought. My understanding is that the remedial power of gemstones consists in the ability of a pure, flawless, non-heat-treated gem to conduct and amplify our subconscious expectations. Our most subtle thoughts are very fine-granulation.

We are not normally even aware that we are repeating a pattern of thoughts and expectations constantly, day-in and day-out. However this subtle pattern of imagery and instruction is going on all the time. The power of the gems is to pick up these subtle thoughts similar to the way a radio crystal picks up a radio signal, then amplifies that signal so we can hear it.

Each graha has its own program of thoughts and instructions carried over from past lives into the current life. I believe it is beneficial to strengthen the instructions which come from subha-graha, but it is never beneficial to strengthen the instructions which are emitting from the papa-graha.

8. Rahu = domain-9, lord = Shukra, drishti of Mangala. Rahu will give strongest amplification to Shukra. I almost never will recommend a gomedha for Rahu because I find Rahu to be such a trouble-maker. Rahu amplifies and magnifies the desire-nature and causes challenge to cultural boundaries. In the best case, Rahu brings benefits of international, intercultural business and exotic religious association, but generally Rahu amplifies his lord and his co-tenants to bad effect.

In your case Valdemar, Rahu will bring you association with foreigners in the context of world travel and religion, esp. in ceremonial settings under auspice of Brihaspati, the Guru of Priests. IMO Rahu has good and bad traits; He is good for global interactions (esp. through religious association) and in general He heightens wealth through these contacts. I think your nativity is one of the rare exceptions to the no-Rahu rule; and furthermore wearing the Gomedha is a good way to strengthen Shukra indirectly without invoking the exploitive potential of Shukra Himself . Gomedha is recommended.

9. Ketu = in radix domain-3, 3rd-from-Chandra, lord = Mangala. Vargottama in Vrishikhanavamsha . Ketu is very detached and distant from the world. Like Shani, Ketu gives better results in domain-3 and in all upachaya houses. Improvement of malefic effects (up to the point where malefics can become overtly profitable) is expected is upachaya houses, because the moral maturity and life wisdom which are required to harness emotions like "fear" and "apathy" can be acquired over Time. However Ketu' s association with L-3/L-8 Mangala negates this small positive possibility.

The classic negativity of Ketu/Vrischika/3 is being a clever cheater and getting cheated even more cleverly in return. Be on the lookout for this karma during Ketu periods - although frankly you should be finished with the worst of it because Rahu-Ketu period has passed. Vaidurya, the cat' s eye chrysoberyl for Ketu, is not recommended.

In conclusion, Valdemar, the gem recommendations for your Kanya nativity are:

Emerald ( panna) for Budha - to be worn in the mahadasha Of Shani and mahadasha Of Budha (remove when Ketu Mahadasha begins)

  • Set in gold. (no zinc)

  • Place on the 4th finger of the right hand

  • On a Wednesday.

  • Chant Budha mantra." Aum bum bhudaya namah" * Repeat ninetimes

According to Dr. G.S. Kapoor (1994, p 95) "

...The weight of Emerald should not be less than three carats. Emerald is an expensive stone. Those who cannot afford to buy an Emerald may use any of these substitutesAquamarine, Peridot, green zircon, green Agate or Jade; but the Jade which is sold in the market for Rs 1 or Rs 2 a piece is of no use.

Important: Emerald and its substitutes should never be worn with Red Coral...Yellow Sapphire and their substitutes."

According to Dr. G.S. Kapoor (1994, p 118) :

"... Blue Sapphire should be got set in a ring of steel. (If that is not possible Ashta Dhatu should be used.) On a Saturday (or Friday) and after observing the usual rituals and reciting the following mantra 108 times, the ring should be worn in the middle finger of the right hand on a Saturday two hours before Sunset.

The Blue Sapphire should be of at least 5 carats. The substitutes for Blue Sapphire are Blue Zircon, Amethyst, Blue Tourmaline, Lapis Lazuli, Blue Spinel and Neeli.

Important: Ruby ... or Yellow Sapphire should never be worn along with Blue Sapphire."

Hessonite quartz or Orange Zircon (Gomedha) for Rahu - to be worn in the mahadasha Of Shani and mahadasha Of Budha And mahadasha Of Ketu and mahadasha Of Shukra

  • Set in gold.

  • Place on the second finger of right hand,

  • On a Saturday.

  • Chant Rahu mantra." Aum ram ravahe namah" * Repeat18 times

According to Dr. G.S. Kapoor (1994, p 121):

"... The Gomedha should be worn in the middle finger or little finger in a ring of Ashta Dhatu (alloy of eight metals or silver if Ashta Dhatu is difficult to get) before Sunset on a Wednesday evening after observing the usual rituals and reciting the following mantra 108 times.

The weight of the gem stone should not be less than six carats.

As far as possible genuine Sri Lanka Gomedha (of Zircon group) should be used.

Substitute is Hessonite Garnet. "

For all remedial gemstones, be sure to cleanse the stone energetically with extreme attention to proper mantra.

Flawless gems are expensive and hard to find. Use only a trusted Vedic-trained gemologist. It might be easiest to start with single gem and combine them as your finances allow.

According to Dr. G.S. Kapoor (1994, p 91) :

"It is very important for all gem stones that before wearing them they should be kept immersed for sometime in unboiled milk or Ganges water.

Afterwards the stones should be worshipped with flowers and incense, and the Mantras of the planets should be recited 108 times."
