"Gomedha" is usually translated to mean "cow urine", since the color of the crystal for Rahu is supposed to resemble the color of the urine of the sacred kine. However "medha" is not really the word for 'urine' ('meha' = urine). "Medha" connotes the ritually powerful essence of the remains of a sacrificed animal. In context, cow's urine may be interpreted as being a nourishing drink that is provided by the beast as a sacrificial offering to the recipient. The distinction is important in developing an understanding of the power of Rahu.
"The Gomedha should be worn in the middle finger or little finger in a ring of Ashta Dhatu (alloy of eight metals or silver if Ashta Dhatu is difficult to get) before Sunset on a Wednesday evening after observing the usual rituals and reciting the following mantra 108 times:
Aum ram ravahe namah
The weight of the gem stone should not be less than six carats. As far as possible genuine Sri Lanka Gomedha (of Zircon group) should be used. Substitute is Hessonite Garnet. "
