Rejuvenating a Combust Shukra

This Nativity would benefit from a Jyotisha Shukra-ratna: a flawless diamond, with correct ritual application

The native is a student of Jyotisha. He sought an opinion from me regarding the suitability of three gem choices:

  • sapphire supporting Shani,

  • emerald supporting Budha, or

  • diamond supporting Shukra.

Here is my view of the gemstone recommendation and the process of obtaining a proper gem:

Shukra is combust.

In general I agree that:

(1) combust is a form of weakness.  A gemstone targeted to strengthen a weak benefic will help a combust benefic

and

(2) emerald is not desirable for you because Budha is lord of randhrasthana, and as you point out Budha is neechha in navamsha.

As you know, in order to function as Jyotisha remedial devices, gemstones must be flawless, non-treated in any way (particularly heat-treating) and set in the appropriate pure metal (gold, silver, platinum - no zinc!) so that the stone touches maximum amount of skin.

Proper ritual preparation, chanting of the planetary mantra, and application of the gem on the planetary day and hour, having eaten appropriate food or fasted, is also essential.

Simply owning a lovely colored gemstone which might be set in the European style is a nice addition to the wardrobe -- but however lovely, such a stone has no Jyotisha remedial impact. Generally speaking, getting the correct setup for a Jyotisha stone is an expensive, time-consuming, and cumbersome process.

There is almost no way to guarantee gem effectiveness other than to buy the stone from a purveyor who personally got it from a reputable mine.

An example of a reputable dealer is Bill Kent in Victoria BC http://www.jyotishgem.com/ Bill  is a longtime devotee of clean character who personally buys at the mouth of mines in Sri Lanka. I have a wonderful pukhraj from Bill; and I would recommend his gems personally due to his religious character. Other sellers should be carefully assessed.

Even if the proper stone has been obtained and set in pure metal (and as a result the stone itself may not even be visible) proper mantra recitation and timing of application is essential.

In India or Nepal it's fairly easy to hire a pujari to perform the mantras. However unless you belong to a Hindu temple here in the USA, even finding a reputable pujari who can be trusted to keep your highly valuable stone during the mantra recitation and then return it when he is finished, can be stressful. Again the issue is moral character of the purveyor.

The Jyotisha gem industry in India is so corrupt that I normally recommend selfless service and non-petitionary prayer as much more effective and reliable alternatives to remedial gemstones.

It is important to emphasize that the corrective benefits of Jyotisha gemstones can be achieved by several other reliable methods. Gemstones are a nice asset but they are REALLY not necessary!

However if a person is blessed with good connections to reputable Jyotisha jewelers, perhaps can perform their own ritual preparations (mantra and sometimes bathing the stone), and ideally has a good working knowledge of western gemology (knows how to identify flaws, understands the range of coloration within a gem category) then remedial stones can be an unending source of sensual delight.

I would definitely agree with your resistance to strengthening your Rahu. Rahu is strong enough already. He makes you wealthy materially but he is already strong enough to succeed at that task. If you make him stronger he will inflate the power of your sixth lord Chandra, and create health imbalance in lungs and breasts. I'd say leave well enough alone with Rahu.

(The native observed that he had enjoyed good results immediately following two previous occurrences of Saturn's 7-and-a-half year transit across the territory of natal Moon called Sade Sati.)

The reason Sade Sati has good long-term effects is that your Shani is so fabulous. Sade Sati gives Shani extra power to effect structure, discipline, and harmonious large-scale balance between the major life endeavors (work, health, relationships, wealth, etc. come into much tighter orchestration under Shani's baton).

The biggest downside of Sade Sati for you because it occurs in putrasthana is Sade Sati oppresses your romantic life for 2.3 years while Shani is busy streamlining your love energy so that there is less waste. Your Shani is very elegant and ethical. He is also VERY powerful so He brooks no resistance when He goes into a house to clean up past karma.

Sade Sati feels like a steam-cleaning for most people. Gochara Shani forces release of outdated attachments so that the native can move on to their next phase of the karmic agenda. Shani has only one goal, and that is maximum efficient karma burning.

Because your Shani is so powerful at birth, He does a complete and thorough job of making necessary separations (which is emotionally brutal of course - pity Chandra!). As a result, when Sade Sati is finished, you have access to all that energy that was liberated from emotionally draining, outdated emotional attachments - which the Moon would NOT have released until forced.

The Moon will by His nature cling to historic relationships with the living and the dead, virtually forever. (Yes Moon is masculine as are all graha.) Soma just can't throw anything away.

Shani comes in like a cleaning specialist and says, "look at all this accrual! You are stuck in aeons of unconscious attachment! Unless your Moon can prove that you need this relationship/habit/nutrient, I Shani am going to remove all the dead wood from your life!"

And so He does. But geez it hurts...

Furthermore in your radix,  when Shani is done hazing your Moon He moves into Ari Bhava, a dusthana, where He gives good results because

(1) He already controls house-6 via His 10th drishti from dharmasthana and

(2) "a bad planet in a bad house bears good fruit".

Or, as they used to say during Watergate, "when the going gets tough, the tough get going." When Shani is exalted at birth, His transits bring benefits of austere discipline and clear prioritization to the house He is visiting.

Anyway your Jyotisha chart is a great example of someone who measurably benefits from Sade Sati. (Some people are terribly harmed by the transit because their Moon is stronger than their Shani and they can't/won't let go.)

Keep up your good studies. Your planets suggest superb talent in structured, rule-based divination systems such as Jyotisha.

All the best, Barbara
