Shani in Meena

  • resistance to impulse + obligation to maintain respectability

  • resistance to public leadership + obligation to lawfully govern

Shani is well placed in His own karmasthana, where His agenda of orderly governance can be accomplished with little resistance.

Although the native dislikes excessive attention, one will be an effective legislator and bureaucrat. the native develops a respectable and class-conscious career aimed at management of high level social responsibility and judicial or executive roles in social hierarchy.

Generally of sober temperament, systematic habits, and a top-down authoritative viewpoint. the native is prone toward a judgmental and often punitive worldview.

Marriage and children

Shani's drishti upon bhava 12, 4, and 7 imposes this strict, conformist view upon the institution of marriage = 10th from 10th. Marriage favors duties related to the propagation of the species (survival) and because Shani in 10 cannot cast His restrictive drishti upon 5, the native may produce a large number of children.

No matter how large or diverse the family however there is little interest in the individual creativity or other expressions of divine intelligence in the children.

A second marriage, if indicated, is often easier and less duty-bound, because Shani's drishti will not reach dhana bhava.

Karma bhava = 6/8 from Putra Bhava

Troubles via imbalance between social ordering duties (Shani, 10) vs. creative life (Surya, 5).

Vimshottari periods of Shani may involve

  • generally trouble with creative, gaming, gambling, speculative, theatrical, and political matters

  • the tragic, sudden death of a sibling (8th-from-3rd)

  • in a large family, similar death of child 6th in the birth order

  • a criminal accusation of misbehavior in political office (6th-from-5th) = Richard Nixon

  • reports and announcements regarding inquiries into secret matters (3rd-from-8th)

  • a loss or dissolution of the sources of income (12th from 11th)

Career

Although quite capable of interacting with governing agencies and officials, one may prefer to hold a less exposed place in society in order to show modesty. Nevertheless, one may accept very responsible assignments from a deep sense of social duty .

A social regulator of the first order, especially when:

Much less favorable when in a rashi of Shani's enemies Mangala or Surya, as here the native becomes well-known but as a rebel or a troublemaker.

Friendship

the native is law-abiding in the performance of social duties but not friendly in the classic sense of enjoying the company of others. Shani the survivalist will however develop marketplace relationships for the instrumental benefit of reaching one's material goals in social performance, maintaining good public reputation, and obtaining material profit.

It is a complex placement. the native is a morally good person with some socially dysfunctional habits. One becomes well-known (10, visibility) for good works which benefit society as a whole. Yet at the same time one is not an outgoing, friendly person nor especially well-liked.

Individualism (5) is anathema to this native, who experiences a very deep obligation to impose austerity, regularity, predictable governance, and moral order in the world.

  • Exceptions would include a super-strong position of Surya = Hillary Clinton . Mrs. Clinton enjoys not only the Throne Yoga of Shani-Karkata-10 but also a radiantly strong, child-loving, politics-loving neechcha-banga Surya in lagna + lagnesha Shukra!

  • The celebrated public figures with Shani-10 nearly always have some exceptional feature = Carla Bruni Sarkozy also enjoys a very strong L-5 Shukra in 5, increasing her creative individualism

  • However normally the Shani-10 native is quite taciturn.

Often the native practices a form of "reverse discrimination" in social relationships. One gives favor to members of the materially disadvantaged "underdog" classes regardless of their individual qualifications.

Also, friendship is harmed by a punitive judgmentalism toward those who hold different views to oneself.

However, all of this rather friendless difficulty is due to placing the welfare of society ahead of the welfare of any one individual; so that it becomes impossible to extend the privilege of personal friendship. However, in general the citizens know and appreciate the value of the native 's social contribution. One has "friends" in the professional service corps and amongst those who share one's vision of a correctly ordered social pyramid.

Regarding Shani-10-Kumbha, Das says:

"Saturn impels you into the realm of objectivity, isolation, and philanthropic activities. You will be extremely rude and crude in social relationships, but inwardly you will be motivated by the urge to help others and show them the unity underlying all things."

Graha drishti to domains: 12, 4, and 7.

See: dealing with the negative expectations of Shani in bhava-10

All forecasts improve with planetary support from Shani.

Better results should be predicted if Shani occupies Thula, Makara, or Kumbha.

Saturn occupying karmaa bhava[house-10] will drishti 12, 4, and 7 from lagna. From karmaa sthana, Shani's 3rd aspect to the obscure 12th house is less damaging to public life. It damages mainly the native 's inner peace by blocking meditation, sanctuary, and dreams (12) and love from the spouse (7). The home (4) is not comfortable so the native may prefer the workplace. Accepts a heavy workload.

  • One suffers some limit on bed pleasures (12) and intuition is cramped; but the public, administrative life remains productive and respectable. S/he is a good citizen, strong work ethic and reliable. (Just not happy.) More loyalty to his organization, duties, and hierarchical superiors than to inner truth, home, or spouse. May be workaholic transferring emotional anxieties into excessive work.

Seva of Shani-10

In terms of liberation through conscious service, native is uncomfortable with excess publicity. Consider the difference between house-10 which is duty and respectability, versus house-5 which is celebrity and fun.

  • These natives do not wish their private lives exposed, and much dislike the limelight. But Shani gives Karma, the tough realities we don't like. In some ancient past life s/he caused another to fall from power by exposing personal moral flaws in a public leader. In the past life they threw the first stone .

  • The hardest thing in life for the Shani-10 native is moral transparency, which is having the rigorous moral standards of public life relentlessly applied to one's private life. It is an excruciating responsibility to allow people who are much less moral than oneself to be prying into one's personal business at all times. Yet, if the karma-burning potential of Shani-10 is to be fully realized, this is moral transparency - flawless role-modeling of public morals even in private behavior - must be accepted.

  • Karmaa bhava as 12th-from-11thdemands sacrificeof personal attainment, in order to promote the public good . When native's consciousness is awakened, Shani in karmaa bhava will produce a leader who intentionally sacrifices their private-public distinction, and willingly offers their life behavior as a role-model to others. This sacrifice creates, in such a conscious leader, a completely neutral and clear-minded state.

Benefits of Shani in Kendra:

  • in kendra (1, 4, 7, 10) lawful Shani = slow and steady toward material and social success.

  • Shani imposes routines , conventional behavior patterns, predictable environments , and realistic expectations .

  • In kendra, Shani's influence is overall favorable due to the value of regularity in those environments.

Shani social structures = regulated vertical hierarchies (Makara) and lateral systems (Kumbha) . Shani in bhava-10 = governing and social-ordering structures. the native may not always enjoy one's work but it is clearly necessary to do it.

Often employed by a government bureaucracy. In Karkata, "throne yoga" = the very highest and most emotionally oppressive social-regulator duties (Hillary Clinton, Nelson Mandela)

  • A strong regulator-Shani marks the native as an imposer of national and international governance. May be involved in high-level bureaucracy.

  • A weak Shani = imposed upon by government rules and regulations.

sober and realistic about human social organizations.

anxiety

Shani-10 karma is designed to convert ignorance about large human social organizations into wisdom about large human social organizations.

Laws of human groups: the larger the group, the lower the common denominator, the greater the need for law and order.

Leadership Anxiety.

Fear and worry regarding responsibility for imposing a lawful environment

  • Must work to earn validation of governance. Works to be fully approved, in compliance, and judged perfect under the rule of human law.

  • Yet survival fears based in past-life karma enforce the mandate to perform this work over and over again, until the ignorance is transformed into wisdom.

"Not respected enough " syndrome.

The experience of "getting the job done" = fundamentally stubborn, persistent, conservative and slow.

Shani in 12th from 11th = One step forward, two steps back in matters of achievement and goals.

Yet eventually Shani-10 achieves the respect accorded to those who earn measurable material accomplishments .

Expect serious delays in arrival goal-achievement timeline if the period of L-10 occurs much later in life.

Chandra born in a nakshatra of Budha, Ketu, or Shukra may have a very late mahadasha of Shani.

Leadership = work

Iconic roles = work

public recognition = work

Shani = characteristically resistant to forward movement.

In 10, public projects = slow-going and time-consuming.

Limited permission to move forward energetically along the path of public reputation

capacity to move vigorously toward completion of professional duties may be reduced due to the weight of the workload. In the large, pyramid-shaped hierarchies of Makara and bhava-10, the individual cannot move until the entire internally regulated organization is ready to move.

It takes a good long time to get anything done.

Ascending to high social status and achieving significant visibility in the world order is required by Shani-10 because the environment of high public recognition is precisely "Shani's workshop" where He imposes the regime of repeated practice exercises "until the ignorance has been converted to wisdom".

Try as one might to change the package of attributes, one's ability to enjoy the benefits of these positions of high dignity is much delayed.

To outsiders, it might look like Shani-10 has achieved the pinnacle of social success. Yet to the native, it just feels like work.

Habits of leadership and orderly behavior =

Dignified results:

for Mesha lagna, Vrishabha lagna, and Makara lagna, wherefrom Shani-10 will occupy either (1) a rashi of Shani or (2) uchchamsha Thula, the native is born to hold high office.

Yet the organization one has been chosen to serve and the duties involved are so onerous that Shani-10 may abdicate despite guaranteed professional dignity and public respect.

Partial exceptions:

  • Naturally, Shani-10 occupies His own natural house, therefore the characteristic behaviors of Shani - slow, careful fearful, conventional - will ultimately produce the basic social respectability which the native feels obliged to establish.

  • Shani + Mangala, the road to high public officeis bumpy and hard, but success may occur if the lord of these two graha is well disposed (Hillary Clinton).

  • Thula lagna = Shani-9 in Karkata which gives "throne yoga".Nelson Mandela, Hillary Clinton. The road to executive office is very challenging, but given a supportive Moon, the native will achieve lasting public dignity and praise for imposing an orderly environment upon an emotionally chaotic situation.

  • Simha lagna = Shani in a rashi of friend Shukra.E.g., Richard Nixonlost several elections but kept steadily carrying on. Were it not for his slightly criminal Chandra-6 in a rashi of Shani

Heavy public responsibilities.

Some difficulties or maturation required before obtaining recognition in public positions. Strict adherence to public codes of conduct is required.

Delays or prevents access to sanctuary protection or ashrama or research lab+Libraries (12) ; heavy work and responsibilities in foreign lands. Limits settlement or security of family home because the native must move frequently for his work (4). Delays marriage; but supports marriage to a plain, simple, or older person (7).

Shani's natural houses, bhava-10 and bhava-11, are the least problematic locations for Shanaicharya's hard-working and determined behaviors. Shani always takes time (sometimes a loooong time) but in the end Shani gives stable position in public leadership roles.

Much depends on the rashi and location of the ruling graha, but in generally speaking, Shani's tasks are somewhat easier to complete in Karma Bhava and Labha Bhava. There is a tremendous amount of forced socializing and a huge duty roster in bhava-10 and bhava-11, but also usually also a large organization to support one's efforts.

Shani in bhava-10 = deficiency of legitimate governance

core areas of initial lack of understanding + required repetition =

  • 10 = public responsibility
  • 12 = private imagination
  • 4 = parents, home culture
  • 7 = marriage, core union

Repeating Homework Assignments =

  • practice drills = heavy responsibility for minimal recognition
  • fear (Shani) of high visibility, fears the loss of privacy (12)
  • dealing with a tightly lawful super-regulated environment, usually in an executive decision-making capacity
  • parents are conservative and limited
  • marriage = overall dry, cold but also loyal, dutiful (results depend very much upon L-7 and graha in 7)

Karma bhava = Shani's natural house; Shani does well here. Believable personality who has credibility with the hoi-polloi, and is willing to work their way up the ladder. May have a vulgar style, but the people recognize him as one of their own.

Often found in government service, with trade unions, and other populist appeals to the common man. Stickler for the rules - but the letter of the law is what move him, not the spirit of the law!

Special ability to publicly represent scarcity, limitation, fear, and conformity.

A regulator of systems of karma and interpretations of human law.

An executive functionary who works the system of hierarchical positioning, leadership and government. Always short of time in which to accomplish a daunting list of public responsibilities.

May be given a heavy workload by the regulating bureaucracy, the professional elite, or the boss. The father's family faces some considerable scarcity of material or cultural resources.

Shani in 10 = good for common humanity because Shani resists rank and status.

Learning Curve

Shani-10 = challenged to repeat many "practice" iterations while learning the art of lawful public behavior.

The lifetime is devoted to the slow and patient correction of the at-birth deficiency regarding leadership responsibilities, management of the public reputation, dignity of high office, and understanding of the elite roles of those who govern large social hierarchies. A very high responsibility position usually however typical of Shani one must invest more effort in the workload than one is able to extract in terms of dignity and respect. Possibility a scandal or fall from high place due to ignorant mismanagement of the public trust.

Core Practice Environments which require repetitive drill and careful study:
  • 10 = public duties, highly visible social positions
  • 12 = fantasies, may feel persecuted, limits on private relaxation (person always tense)
  • 4 = conventionalized parents, strict home culture, (mother's affection may be performance-based not unconditional love)
  • 7 = conventional, plain marriage partner, core union focused upon fulfillment of social duty

Effects of Shani-10

= an executive functionary who works the socially approved system of organizational leadership and government. This person must apply sustained effort with limited resources (Shani the worker) toward the maintenance of executive powers, official duties, leadership roles and positions, and iconic symbolism.
  • Casting His harshest 3rd and 10th aspects upon the protection/temple house (12) and marriage/partnerships (7), plus the lesser but still troublesome 7th aspect upon home/security (4).

  • Some dignity through public responsibility, but makes that responsibility very challenging to carry out because the person has neither shelter of meditation nor shelter of home/emotional security nor easy partnerships.

  • Every action demands detailed consideration, with little help from others.

This person was raised with early responsibilities and unreliable supporters; as adults they believe that "if it is going to be done right I have to do it myself". By damaging the shelter/sanctuary of 12/4/7 and forcing the person to be on-duty so much, Shani/10 makes a highly competent manager but reduces the long-term leadership trajectory.

Dignified but very demanding. Shani the Limiter = rarely receives full recognition for the full scope of one's diligent efforts.
