medi_buddha_sm.jpg Health 15:

Does this person care for their health?
The answer to most health questions, both natal conditions and timing of health-related occurrences in the lifetime, is found via:

  • Ari Bhava

  • the lord of house-6

Addictions to foods, drugs, sex, and other socially proscribed pleasures are typically seen in the 6/12 axis.

  • L-12 is a particularly important indicator of private, secret addictions.

  • Shukra is almost always the culprit with addictions.

  • Rahu/Ketu is the 6/12 axis exacerbates existing imbalances

Here are few examples:

The female nativity below has:

  • house-6 unoccupied.

  • L-6 is a peculiar graha: damaged Kuja in the final degree of hostile-rashi Kumbha.

    • However, Kuja gets re-energized and validated through parivartana yoga with His lord Shani.

  • Both of Kuja's houses, Ari bhava and radix lagna, benefit from the restorative qualities of the parivartan.

    • However, two malefics mutually strengthening each other gives a "strong" but NOT an "easy" result, especially when both malefics control the lagna.

    • The native is stubbornly independent and eccentric, with a firm tendency toward the odd way and the slow way in almost all endeavors :)

  • L-6 Kuja receives friendly, ethical drishti of Guru and Surya.

  • L-6 Kuja = lagnesha

The native was raised in a conservative Midwest American family eating copious animal meats. She accepted the discipline of a vegetarian diet:

  • At age 18

  • during the first nodal return

  • which contacts radix Shani

  • And engages the L-1+L-6 parivartan,

  • during Budha/Shani bhukti.

Her entire extended family including husband and children are enthusiastic meat-eaters. In contrast to her dominant environment which favors conventional western health practices including drugs, surgeries, and eating of meat and chemically preserved foods, the native pursues homeopathic and naturopathic medicine, hatha yoga, and other new-age concepts.

Despite the eccentricity of her health choices, the native is healthy and happy.

Good health practices and healthy resultsin this nativity can be attributed to:

  1. Drishti upon radix L-6 Kuja =

    • Auspiciously wise L-2+L-5 Guru,

    • Auspicious (but very independent) L-10 swakshetra Surya,

  2. Parivartan with Austerity-orientedL-3+L-4 Shani

  3. Shani is a major influence on the physical body as He occupies radix lagna.

  4. Navamsha Kujagives the results of educated, analytical radix uchcha Budha

  5. Ari bhava is unoccupied.

  6. Kuja has good positions in vargas that can expose health problems, such as Trimshamsha D-30 and Shashtyamsha D-60:

    • Kuja occupies a rashi of Shukra in D-30,

    • Kuja occupies a rashi of Guru in D-60

  7. The Addiction/secret illness potentialof vyaya bhava is largely destroyed because L-12 Shukra occupies radix house-8. (The effects of a house are damaged or destroyed when the lord of that house occupies Randhra bhava.) Meanwhile, navamsha Shukra amplifies the eccentric but healthy Kuja.

On the negative side, this native suffers:

  • some overweight (due to Guru drishti upon Kuja = lagnesha+L-6)

  • Occasional short-term stress-related illness (due to Kuja in 12th-from-Chandra).

The male native below is the same age and social class as the female above. However, his physical health situation is much less favorable.

He suffers obesity and life-threatening allergic reactions, has experienced cardiac arrest and endured multiple invasive surgeries, lifelong skin conditions, male pattern baldness, and many other discomforts.

His dietary choices are conventional western habits including copious meats, sugary foods and preserved foods, which conform to his family upbringing. He ingests numerous medical drugs, including daily caffeine and alcohol. He does not practice a sport nor take regular physical exercise.

Overall consideration regarding house-6 and L-6 Budha:

  • house-6 unoccupied.

  • L-6 Budhais a complex graha:

    • confused, unclear and indecisive thinking especially regarding matters of mental and physical health due to L-3+L-6Budha yuti Ketu

    • L-3+L-6 Budha is an unfavorable graha for Mesha lagna, but Budha's character is improved via parivartana yoga with Budha's lord+ L-2+L-7 Shukra

  • Both of Budha's houses, Ari bhava and Sahajabhava, benefit from the restorative qualities of the parivartan.

    • However, a mutual strengthening of the death graha (L-2+L-7 Shukra) and the disease graha (L-6 Budha) gives an undesirable result:

      • the parivartana strengthens both chronic and acute, life-threatening disease conditions

    • (the parivartana also helps this native to be a great healer)

  • L-6 Budha is tightly associated with disruptive, compulsive Ketu-Rahu.

  • L-6 Budha receives drishti of career-and community oriented L-10+L-11 Shani

    • However Shani is a less positive influence

Poor health practices and generally unhealthy resultsin this nativity can be attributed to:

  1. Drishti upon radix L-6 Budha =

    • disassociative Ketu(native lacks awareness of personal health choices)

    • L-10+L-11 Shani; L-11 being 6th-from-6th is negative for health

    • when Shani is the L-10, the native works very hard for a living

    • when the L-10 occupies house-8, the prestige of career is destroyed

    • however in the final analysis despite hard, slow work to get there, parivartana of Shani L-10 with uchcha Kuja lagnesha+L-8 gives success

  2. Parivartan with sweet-loving marakaL-2+L-7 Shukra

    • L-2 Shukra rules "what goes in the mouth"

  3. Navamsha Budhagives the results of maraka Shukra

  4. Budha's role in vargas that can expose health problems, such as Trimshamsha D-30 and Shashtyamsha D-60, is somewhat unfavorable esp. in D-60:

    • Budha occupies a rashi of Guru in D-30 but yuti Rahu/Ketu,

    • Budha occupies a rashi of L-6 Budha in D-60

  5. The Addiction/secret illness potentialof vyaya bhava is largely eliminated because L-12 uchcha Guru occupies the kendra Bandhu bhava. Meanwhile, navamsha Guru also amplifies the blessings of uchcha Guru.

On the positive side, this native enjoys:

  • conformity with group ethos, no friction with family or tribal eating patterns or health beliefs

  • good material wealth levels (due to parivartan of L-2 = family wealth and L-3 = self-made wealth)

Due to the remarkable effect of 3 parivartana yogas involving all 3 dushthamsha lords - L-6+ L-8, and L-12 !!

  • An amazing professional medical specialty in managing and supporting the death process, where his knowledgeable compassion and skill Assist a smooth transition for the dying

Longevity:

Shani occupying Randhra Bhava typically confers long life, and this native has an unusually long life line on the palm. Therefore Along life, plagued by ongoing health problemssince childhood, is predicted.

Health effects from marriage when L-6 has parivartan with L-7/Shukra:

L-6 for animosity and disease yuti Ketu and in parivartan with L-7 Shukra, suggests that animosity and imbalance disturb the marriage and/or the personality of the marriage partner. Eventually, unless the native has a very strong spiritual practice, marriage-related stress will percolate down into the physical body.

The native confirms that his marriage partner of 30 years has several chronic mental and physical health conditions, which have both generated and resulted from marital animosity. However, as always with a strengthening partivartana yoga, there have been periods of deep affection where Shukra shows the effect of being in "virtual Vrishabha", and periods of wonderful communication where Budha shows the benefits of being in "virtual Mithun".

However the withdrawal/dissociation in marital communication induced by Ketu will make it very difficult for these partners to discuss their conflicts. The default "resolution" is for each of them to become increasingly physically ill.

This male nativity (below) provides an interesting contrast to the two examples above. This man is also the same age and social class as the above two nativities.

He is independently wealthy, with strong competitive instincts, and has enjoyed a prestigious business career. However he has strikingly self-destructive health practices, which he interprets as "entitlements":

  • style="margin: 0">Advanced alcoholism (using only fine liquors but in destructive quantities)
  • style="margin: 0">Addicted to caffeine, cigarettes, prescription medications, and degrading sexual practices
  • style="margin: 0"> high blood pressure resulting in cardiac arrest
  • style="margin: 0"> recurrent infections
  • style="margin: 0"> ongoing mental depression
  • style="margin: 0">fluctuations in body weight due to frequent change in diet fashions ("yo-yo dieting")
Health factors to consider:

L-2 rules "what goes in the mouth"

  • L-2 Chandra fluctuates by nature.
  • fluctuating Chandra yuti impressionable lagnesha Budha gives frequent changes to the physical appearance
  • uchcha Guru as tenant of house-2 gives High Permission to eat and drink well. Native is an elite connoisseur of fine food and drink.
L-6 uchcha Kuja with L-8 Shani/Rahu: Parivartana yoga

  • "A bad planet in a bad house gives [some] good results." Shani/Rahu as two virulent malefics will generally ease the suffering that emits from Ari Bhava.
  • Without the parivartan, Shani/Rahu in Vrischikha/6 has specific health implications:
    • Das says: "Saturn will increase the possibility of hypertension, violent temper, and indecision or wrong decisions which get you into problematical situations. You may suffer from some ailment of the pelvic region as well as infections of the urinary tract."
    • In fact the native is infertile, and suffers prostate illness along with hypertension. He also suffers "anger management" and impulse control issues (due to involvement of Rahu).
  • L-6 occupying Randhra Bhava similarly will destroy or significantly reduce most of the problems associated with Ripu bhava: enemies, most debt, and most aspects of disease.
  • (One of the best yogas for wealth is L-6 in house-8, which destroys debt.)
Unfortunately despite the benefits of L-6 being "destroyed" in house-8, these factors re-strengthenthe health negativity of L-6:

  • parivartana,
  • L-12/Shukra drishti,
  • And drishti of L-6 Kuja upon lagnesha/Chandra
  • Navamsha Kujagives the results of Shani
Results:

  • Negative, self-destructive health practices resurface and are exacerbated by nodes.
  • Addictive L-12 Shukra is strong in swakshetra is also a "re-strengthening" factor to the malefic indications of house-6
    • Behari says of Mithuna lagna's general house-12-Vrishabha proclivities: "You engage in material pursuits, but dissatisfaction with the existing conditions will be present. You will always be doing something to alleviate your circumstances, but you may not be moving in the right direction. You are likely to immerse yourself ever deeper in materialityand drift farther away from ultimate release."
    • Shukra in His own 12th house with Ketu greatly strengthens these materialistic/sensual tendencies. The native somewhat compulsively pursues a sensual path throughout life, despite his growing dissatisfaction with it.
  • Addictive, pleasure-loving Shukra with His awareness of consequences dissipated by Ketu, sends drishti to house-6
  • uchcha L-6 casts drishti upon lagnesha Budha-yuti-Chandra - which re-energizes the disease/imbalance/animosity patterns in the nativity

Periods of L-6 Kujahave enforced debilitating acute diseaseson this native (above).

  • The 18-year mahadasha of Rahu saw intensive alcoholism and smoking, yo-yo dieting, and much angry conflict in this native's life. Simultaneously his personal wealth grew hugely while he accrued no debt.
From a Jyotisha perspective the native's volatile health situation is due to underlying, repressed anger and grief.

  • Rahu/Kuja periodcreated the most violent grief (Shani) and anger (Kuja) which manifested in a months-long painful, exhausting collapse of the "immune system".
However, despite volatile "indecision or wrong decisions"in health matters -- and despite what is often called an "addictive personality"(empowered pleasure-seeker swakshetra L-12 Shukra/Ketu) -- the native seems to bounce backfrom his self-inflicted health crises.

L-6 in house-8 is a good thing. Major malefics in a major dushthamsha is also, basically, a good thing.

His addictive intake of toxins certainly weakens the physical body and makes the inevitable Kuja/Shani/Rahu-induced Acute disease periods much more painful than necessary. However, L-6 is house-8 protects against chronic disease.

Unfortunately+ L-6 in house-8 does not protect against addictions! L-12 is very strong for addictions with Ketu blocking self-awareness for all but the most enlightened. This native fights his deep unconscious sense of separateness and not being wanted, with pleasure-substances like alcohol and sex. He feels inner rage and frustration and feels compelled to seek some numbing, temporary pleasure as self-medication.

Therefore the lifetime prognosis is for Shani/Rahu/Kuja-timed attacks of violent-onset acute disease, with surprising protection from chronic conditions. The emotional crisis passes and the native bounces back to vibrant, competitive health.

Yet the psycho-physical degradation caused by intake of addictive pleasure-toxins does slowly erode the vitality. Kuja in house-8 suggests the cause of death will be a sudden event

Perhaps the best news is that this native has now completed 7-year Kuja mahadasha and 18-year Rahu Mahadasha.

He has entered 16-year mahadasha of Guru, for which the health prognosis of L-7+L-10 is much more favorable.
