Inflammatory Bowel Illness = Crohn's Disease

Diagnosis of a hidden disease

Native lived with a debilitating and painful bleeding-bowel disease for 30 years without benefit of a correct diagnosis.

Mysterious conditions are ruled by Randhra bhava and L-8.

Intestines + digestion-elimination = bhava-6 and Kanya rashi.

  • L-8 from Lagna = Guru

  • L-8 from Chandra = neechcha Budha.

  • L-6 from lagna = Thula

  • L-6 from Chandra + lagnesha = Kanya

At the onset of Mangala mahadasha, an accurate diagnosis was determined.

  • Although the condition has few allopathic treatment options, and Chandra + lagnesha in 12 provides limited awareness of the emotional conflict underlying the condition, nevertheless a good diagnosis helped clear the way for a just-in-time lifesaving surgery during the period of Maraka L-7 Kuja.

Conditions for chronic illness

Lifetime disease conditions may accompany the Vrishabha lagna nativity when Shukra = lagnesha + L-6 = ill-disposed.

  • L-6 Shukra (intestines)+ L-3 Chandra occupy the vitality-draining dushthamsha vyaya bhava.

  • Shukra ="Anemia, ailments due to the disturbance of phlegmatic and windy humors, eye troubles, urinary diseases, or those of the generative organs..."-- Phaladeepika, Ch 14, shloka 7

  • bhava-12 is predominantly the house of "loss": loss of personal identity, loss of muscular power to release-and-contract = movement, loss of the life force itself.

  • the native is a scientific researcher (12) and college instructor (Guru = L-10 navamsha) who has lived with chronic illness since his teenage years.

Soma in bhava-12

  • notoriously signifies "insomnia" = a loss of sleep and restless night dreams.

  • onset of the bowel-bleeding illness accompanied perpetual digestive problems and chronic loss of sleep

  • when awoken by abdominal discomfort, the native would arise and begin to write in a private studio office (L-3 Chandra in 12)

Lagnesha Shukra in 12

  • Steady erosion of the physical integrity.

  • kalatrakaraka in 12 = wife, marriage, alliances = contribute to the dissolution, although the private relationship is often pleasant

  • L-6 = acute imbalance, disagreement, and discomfort - disease.

Viparita Raja Yoga

  • It is generally true that a dushthamsha lord in occupation of a dushthamsha is beneficial, at least for the purpose of muting the most severe effects of L-6 (conflict) and L-12 (loss).

  • helt3_dasha.GIFThe best dushthamsha arrangement occurs when L-6 or L-12 occupies randhra bhava.

    • L-12 in 8 = the draining of life force associated with L-12 is "recycled" in the quick-turning cycle of destruction-and-rebirth of bhava-8

    • L-6 in 8 =the debts and exploitation associated with L-6 are "destroyed and reborn" in a newer, transformed edition through the auspice of "sudden change" from the 8th house.

Yet, because L-6 Shukra for the Vrishabha lagna is also the lagnesha, Shukra is dignified and the loss experienced in 12 is compensated by the gain experienced in the lagnesha role.

Harsha Yoga keeps the native alive and productive despite an underlying resource-draining animosity within the body and even deeper within the psychic mind. He lives with chronic pain which sometimes spikes into extreme illness, but then recedes into manageable debility.

  • Harsha yoga transmutes the Ripu's illness into a chronic, steadily draining, erosive condition which neither kills the native nor permits him to live with full vitality.

  • Interpersonal disagreements emerging from Ari bhava - notably marital arguments = L-6 Shukra - are "sucked up" into the dream state, held in suspension in that astral realm which connects the time-space material world to the higher fields of intuitive perception.

The L-6 becomes disempowered in 12, which sounds like a good thing.

  • Yet the result of L-6 in 12 is that the native cannot fight (except, at best, weakly, during periods of L-6 or Mangala). He cannot defend himself against the steady draining influence of Shukra's portfolio: women, sugars (including alcohol), promises and agreements

Unfortunately, the native practices a debilitating "L-6 Shukra in 12" behavior = making promises [Shukra] which one cannot fulfill.

L-3 the mental-trafficker Chandra + L-6 the disease agent creates a cycle of identity-validating alliances (Shukra) that create various collaborative partnerships (L-3 + L-1) however there is not enough physical energy available for the follow-through, and a huge task-list of unfulfilled commitments continues to grow.

As William James said, "There is nothing more exhausting than thinking about a task left undone."

  • The promises normally entail either writing tasks (L-3 Chandra in 12) or commitments to join and maintain various types of alliances (Shukra in 12).

  • Virtually all of the native 's contractual relationships (Shukra) and information-communication projects (Chandra) are emotionally and physically draining for him.

Medical advisers suggest that the native quit work or at least quit over-working.

  • L-12 indicates imprisonment and the L-12 Kuja occupies karma bhava = professional leadership duties. the native is imprisoned by his career. (Kuja + guru in Kumbha, career = scientific).

  • due to the mentalized imprisonment of L-3 + lagnesha Shukra in 12, he can't stop working and he can't stop the life-force drain.

Psychology of Over-commitment

Even in the depths of debilitating illness, the native self-reports that he continues to make vigorous promises to produce written works (L-3 writing in 12) and to participate in research partnerships (lagnesha in 12 = identifies with research).

Several frustrating ironies are at work here:

Chandra L-3 naturally seeks plans, schedules, meetings, conferences and collaborative work groups.

Chandra + lagnesha Shukra doubles the intensity of social-personal identification with writings, presentations, short-term travel, and other messaging communications activities within the context of vyaya bhava's environment: research, distant lands,

  • His commitment to various alliances and projects is based on an assumption that he has substantial life force reserves from which to draw.

  • However, with lagnesha in 12, vitality levels are limited at birth. The ends result is a chain of broken or unfulfilled expectations, which generate a downward spiral of disappointment and grief - from loss of self.

Research is Benefitted

On the plus side, lagnesha in bhava-12 may be a positive placement for research, however slow-going it might be from low fueled physical vitality.

Projects flourish within enclosed spaces = libraries, laboratories, and the abstract worlds of private thoughth. When Shukra = lagnesha, the native enjoys a natural sense of beauty, luxury, and harmonious design, as well as a life-force instinct to impose better balance in the world. L-6 naturally is concerned with toxins. the native is an environmental scientist who has devoted his life to developing solutions to global pollution problems.

Despite lifelong illness, the native has completed several prestigious academic diplomas, conducted important scientific research, held a responsible teaching position, raised a family and offered extensive community service.

Incorrect, incomplete, or ambivalent diagnosis = L-8

This gifted male scientist has suffered chronic skin and digestive health complaints formost of his adult life. Symptoms of exhaustion, muscle spasm, skin infections, insomnia, and headaches first arose in his Shukra/Guru period. The complex of painful and exhausting symptoms, with the vivid evidence of intestinal bleeding, increased steadily over the span of two decades.

Physicians were unable to diagnose the condition during the long years of

At the onset of Mangala Mahadasha , a suddenly definite diagnosis was obtained. Emergency surgery in Mangala/Ketu period marked a major health crisis in the 4th decade of life; yet the native survived this intervention as he has survived others (Only Budha and Mangala are maraka graha in this nativity, with Mangala having much greater empowerment.).

Trimshamsha

  • For misfortunes such as accidents, conflicts, financial issues, and disease, consult the Trimshamsha (D-30) Guru as radix L-8 is already rules the sudden uprising of hidden diseases, and is therefore a temporal misfortune-maker As lord of the Trimshamsha+ L-8 Guru has additional inauspicious powers Furthermore in D-30, radix L-6 Shukra conjuncts radix L-8 Guru in the twelfth D-30, a house of locally rising Shani who gives long-term struggles.

Mahadasha of L-6 Shukra:

Native was a physically active young man during mahadasha of L-6 Shukra. He reports first intestinal bleeding and pain at the end of his teenage years, in the period of L-6 Shukra / L-8 Guru.

  • L-8 = mysterious or undiagnosed disease; conditions of death. Neither he nor his physicians could figure out the problem.

Mahadasha of L-4 Surya+ L-2 from Chandra

Symptoms of rectal bleeding, flatulence, recurring acne (or what appeared to be acne), emaciation, exhaustion, nausea, and a foul body odor dogged the native during Surya Mahadasha .

  • disease remained undiagnosed although a number of inappropriate treatments were applied

  • Surya in 12th from L-6 Shukra indicates foggy thinking of the physicians (L-6)

Mahadasha of L-3 Chandra in 12

  • Chandra/Shukra= health crisis for spouse. As often with graha in 4th from Shukra or L-4 from Shukra, the period of L-4 from Shukra = crisis of parenting vs. romance of the marriage.

    • Parenting or housekeeping duties can become so demanding that the native becomes unable to appreciate the spouse.

    • In this case Chandra lord of 4th from Shukra is yuti Shukra therefore the spouse herself becomes the agent of the burden. Severe health crisis of spouse doubles the workload of the native and threatens but does not destroy the marriage.

    • L-4 from Shukra does not destroy the bond but does "depreciate" the spouse.

  • Health conditions continued to deteriorate yet as typical with this Shukra the disease debility remained about equal to the life-force, and the native soldiered on.

Mahadasha of L-7 / L-12 Mars = L-1+L-8 from Chandra

Facing an ever-increasing workload under L-7 Kuja, 10th-from-10th= professional obligations and advising partnerships; where Kuja occupies the career-10th house, native's symptoms worsened dramatically under a heavy leadership task burden.

  • L-7 rules advisors such as consulting physicians and attorneys.

  • L-7 Kuja = lord of Chandra = dominant degree controlling L-8 Guru for undiagnosed mysterious conditions.

  • At onset of Kuja/Kuja period, an advising "second opinion" physician quickly diagnosed Crohn's Disease (colo-rectal disease: perforated bowel causing major blood loss through holes in wall of lower intestines) which had been sickening him all this time.

Mangala having the higher degree over Guru, Mangala will also provide the effects of Guru:

Jupiter may be said to be responsible for appendicitis,

disorders of the intestines, including fevers,

neurotic disturbances caused by anxiety,

fainting or swoon and phlegmatic disorders,

ear trouble, vertigo ...

-- Phaladeepika, Ch 14, shloka 6

Prognosis:

Medical opinion gives Crohn's Disease a wide range of future outcomes. expectations follow a broad continuum from long-lived pain management to near-term death

Kuja/Budhaperiod is quite dangerous because L-7 Mangala is already a major maraka with lethal association to L-8, and Budha is the other maraka L-2 and also a disease agent as L-6 from Chandra

However Budha is fallen and therefore less powerful, so native might simply experience increased illness and awareness of death, while becoming closer to his family (2) and quite possibly increasing his wealth (L-11 in 2nd house).

  • In fact the Mangala mahadasha did not bring death but rather a series of extremely invasive (Mangala) and life-sustaining surgeries (8).

Rahu mahadasha lasting 18 years for Rahu in 3 which will give the effect of L-3 Chandra after the age of 50 promises much better health because Chandra becomes the effective lagna and the 6th from Chandra = Lord Budha is neechcha therefore Budha has relatively little disease-causing power.
