Christopher Reeve was a  famous, handsome, articulate actor of stage & screen. His international public visibility first rose when he played the popular "Superman" film role in 1977.

Reeve was well educated (uccha Budha; L-4 swakshetra Shukra). By all accounts her was possessed of an intensely penetrating and sometimes arrogant creativity (Chandra yuti Kuja, in charismatic Jyestha).

His father was a professor of literature. His stepfather was a successful stockbroker. Reeve graduated from Cornell University, and attended the Juilliard School. Numerous sequels of Superman & many well-received dramatic portrayals brought him continuous wealth & professional acclaim.

Raised with significant wealth & given strong financial management skills by a professional investor parent, Reeve earned handsomely and invested well during his celebrity theatrical years. He enjoyed long romantic partnerships, had three children, and married once.

Karakamsha

The karakamsha denotes the area of life or social contribution for which the native is best known. It seems unlikely that the karakamsha of a wealthy distinguished person - especially an internationally acclaimed actor and multi-sport athlete - would feature domain-6 as the karakamsha of the Jyotisha nativity.

Yet, it is accurate.

A tragic equestrian accident causing spinal cord injury, at age 42, suddenly transformed Reeve's life from extremely active and articulate to quadriplegic, bound to a wheelchair.  Dhanau rules the spine.

While he lived, until age 52, Reeve used his fame, his intelligence, and his handicap to promote public awareness of quadriplegia and raise funds for medical research toward its cure. After the accident and despite his suffering - which included difficult verbal articulation - Reeve became an extremely popular speaker & writer on the topic of spinal cord injury and medical work toward its cure.

One of the many notable features of this nativity is that Reeves' tragic accident powerfully increased his public visibility and his financial standing.

Interestingly, his peak wealth period actually occurred after becoming quadriplegic, when his very successful books and speeches earned top dollar on the US lecture circuit. (Note the exalted Budha, yuti L-2, and Shani.)

27-May-1995 Surya/Rahu/Budha period:

a tragic equestrian accident, resulting in spinal cord injury, forced Reeve into a severely handicapped lifestyle.

Although a fierce malefic, Rahu has no direct maraka powers. Rahu rules no house.

Rather, Rahu amplifies the lord of the house which He occupies, and He will also expand the effects of any other co-tenants of the house.

Particularly when in the house of a malefic graha, Rahu can cause catastrophe & chaos - including terrible debilitating accidents & near-death terror.

One of Rahu's characteristics = the *element of surprise*.

Radix Rahu occupies a sign of Shani therefore Rahu enflames the results of L-7/L-8.  The accident was certainly, due to L-7, a potentially lethal experience, but L-8 always holds out the possibility of transformative healing.

Reeve' radix shows L-8 Shani occupying house-8, where house-3 is 8th-from-8th. Shani in house-3 gives stamina, persistence, the ability to endure the changes, i.e. stability.

Normally, Shani in sahaja-bhava gives pessimism and a critical attitude; yuti uchcha Budha this combination makes Reeve a stickler for perfection.

Combined further with L-2 Surya, Reeve was also blessed with a powerful capacity for speech communications.  The net result is that he had the intellectual capacity to make projections & plans (Budha) for a creative public role (Surya) which accommodated and even capitalized on the severe restrictions (Shani) imposed by his quadriplegia.

D-30 Trimshamsha

Rahu has tremendous power to cause catastrophic trouble, as confirmed in Reeve's Trimshamsha (D-30) the divisional chart for Misfortune.

In D-30, Rahu/Ketu rising with the very strong Vrischikha-Mangala , where Kuja is accident-causing internal L-6.

helt_ch13_dasha1.GIFDuring nearly a decade of extraordinary recovery efforts, including groundbreaking physical improvements in the nervous system previously thought impossible for quadriplegics, Reeve remained powerfully in the limelight as a spokesperson for people with disabilities - especially paralysis.

In Surya Mahadasha where Surya is yuti with diligent Shani and exalted L-3 Budha in the 3rd house of writing-craft, the severely handicapped Reeve produced an influential book on Emotional Paralysis that was very well received.

The power of this healing book is especially clear through the lord-of-navamsha-of-L-6 method.  Shani occupies a navamsha of Moon, which points to deep psycho-emotional intuition of fallen Moon as the seed of the accident.  Scorpio Moon makes a detective & psychiatrist; a student of human motive.

Reeve wanted to know something about the depths of the human soul.  He accomplished that goal through the mode of physical injury, associated with Scorpio Mars (who dominates radix Moon & thus Mars imposes His huntsman's active lifestyle upon the otherwise passive Moon).  Reeve was studying something.  He was researching healing powers.  Now he knows!

Again, observations arising from the navamsha-lord method are never intended to blame the victim nor reduce compassion for the terrible pain of illness & injury.

Rather, the method will usually reveal what the native is intending to discover psycho-emotionally from their childhood or past lives, through the agency of accident, illness, poverty, or conflict.

Reeve's remarkable ability to continue to generate an excellent income through speaking and writing for nearly a decade after becoming quadriplegic, is indicated by exalted Budha in sahaja bhava, the 3rd house of self-made wealth, yuti with L-2 Surya the wealth-lord. Working tirelessly on the inspirational lecture circuit, Reeve was said to earn more in speaking fees than many ex-presidents of USA.

During Chandra mahadasha, Reeve's remarkably auspicious Chandra-Mangala yoga in putra bhava infused him with such highly creative & self-expressive energy that he continued working in performance arts throughout his debilitating paralysis phase.

As lord of two auspicious houses, Mangala is yogakaraka for Karka lagna; and Chandra is lagnesha.  Reeve's Chandra-Mangala yoga is very fortunate indeed.

However despite the individual excellence of both Chandra & Kuja & their chandra-managala-yoga power to bring theatrical talent, wealth, and public acclaim - Kuja's role in the misfortune-making D-30 is unmistakable.  Reeve's courageous publicly-acclaimed creativity in Chandra mahadasha chooses a shamanistic channel, attracting the energy of tragedy and human extremes.  As a tribute to the excellence of these planets, Reeve was able to send out a huge message of healing even while he endured profound frustration & pain..

In Moon/Saturn period age 51, on 8-Oct-2004, he died of infection from a pressure wound, a common hazard of severe paralysis.

  • Shani is the maraka L-7, even more oppressive and destructive than usual because His tenant is catastrophic Rahu.

    • L-2 Surya is a major maraka but in Reeve's rashi chart Shani dominates Surya by degree, which allows Shani to appropriate Surya's maraka powers

  • Death by pressure wound & exhaustion (Shani)

Prognosis:

Second house rules future life. All humans crave to increase awareness in future lifetimes.

Reeve appears to crave awareness (Budha) of healing, death and rebirth.

L-2 Surya is helped by company of the exalted super-intelligent Budha, although Surya is somewhat restrained also by the karmic responsibility-and-restriction effect of Shani.

Future life will exhibit high intelligence and high responsibility, perhaps in the role of a knowledgeable medical healer who has a strong awareness of anatomical reality as well as the cycles of death and rebirth.
