This
beautiful, friendly, and intelligent young woman became a teenage red-wine alcoholic.
She later supplemented the wine with hallucinogenic & numbing agents such as
marijuana, LSD, and other "party" drugs.
The father was absent during her upbringing (Shani/9 plus L-9 in domain-8) and her formative years
were confused by Ketu mahadasha.
At onset of Shukra mahadasha, in high school, the
young native's lonely single mother invited the daughter to become her wine-drinking companion. Not only is swakshetra Chandra exceptionally strong in
the emotional bond with the mother, but Shukra in 2nd-from-mother shows the
mother's mouth is prone to indulgence. (Domain-2 = 'intake'.)
Behari says regarding Venus in the 4th pada of
Magha:
"You are always worried about
the health of your mother."
Following a 20-year addiction, the native was killed in a solo automobile accident
whilst driving under the influence, age 36. The planetary circumstance of her
death are examined more fully in death-chart-1.
Numerous health issues present immediately in
the high-traffic radix domain-6 for conflict
& disease.

L-6 Kuja occupies Ripusthana, along with
L-3, L-5, L-6, L-8 and Rahu.

Kuja/Kanya in 6 is a known factor for
crash-type accidents because Kuja is L-1 of Mesha
lagna - generating blows to the head.

Shukra is the karaka for "sweet
pleasures" including sex and drugs. The key addiction item in this
radix is Shukra's lord Ravi who occupies house-6 amplified by Rahu. Shukra
is notably sensual in Putra bhava, but Shukra becomes an actual health
hazard when His lord is both weak and troubled in Ari bhava.

Note also the highly intelligent uccha
Budha in house-6. This native was a very successful rationalizer
of her substance issues. Budha gave her the perfect cover-up.

As an adult, this native
simultaneously managed her substance intake with her career as a
government health care worker specializing in drug addiction research
& treatment. She wrote copious reports which involved daunting
mental challenges of measurement statistics - at which she was
exceptionally gifted. Uccha Budha is very skillful and shrewd.

Shukra
mahadasha:
Onset
of alcoholism in Venus/Venus period. For Kanya or
Mesha rising, if Shukra is troubled He can create intake issues
because Shukra rules the 2nd house of "mouth".
The native's choices about what to put in her mouth (L-2 Shukra) were directed
by the disease of a chemically imbalanced (house-6) Ravi, lord of Shukra.
Drinking continued at
home with mom, but due to this native's remarkable intelligence she maintained good
grades in secondary school. She entered a prestigious women's college under Shukra/Chandra - where
swakshetra Chandra is L-4 for education, and a strong karaka for educated women.
In her college years, the native used alcohol to manage stress of
exams & a tumultuous love life. She partied extensively & she also
drank alone. However (due to uccha Budha) she completed the
college requirements and received a diploma in laboratory science.
The native had a brief
"intervention" and quit substance abusing during residential treatment
for the brief period
of Shukra/Guru, where Guru is dharmic L-9 and sanctuary-ruler L-12,
occupying the healing
house-8.
However, onset of Shukra/Shani
returned her to the party circuit of semi-itinerant "Dead-Head"
migration. For the native this illusion of tribal, religious fellowship
(L-11 in house-9) had a long-term impact. Shani's bhukti under Shukra is
the longest duration of any Shani bhukti. The chemical toxicity built up over
several years. Belonging to a rock music
cult that celebrated inebriation/hallucination at concerts and whose local
devotees consumed excessive alcohol at cultic house parties, she slipped into a
very highly social (L-11) but also profoundly depressed (Shani) stage.
Shukra/Budha provided a reasonably
good administrative career in drug treatment research. The native's
mathematical and social skills, in particular her natural, nurturing teaching
ability (see strength of swakshetra Chandra/4 in shadbala) were always helpful in her workplace.
L-3/L-6
Budha is a naturally skillful office worker, who enjoys and profits from
attending meetings & delivering reports.
However, as mentioned above, she was
simultaneously researching drugs & abusing them. Shukra/Ketu caused
the native to lose her normal workplace discrimination. She came to work
inebriated on several occasions, and was let go. Abandoning all pretense of
conformity, native indulged in serious, near-lethal, drug intake (Ketu/12
with permissive lord Guru in 8) during a period of intensive wandering.
Surya
Mahadasha
Beginning
of Surya period signaled an era of rebirth. Native sought a new life
based on authentic self-expression. She wanted to stay clean and have children.
A "clean" lifestyle for her meant also a "clean"
environment, so she moved to the fresh, cold air of the mountains (Surya is
karaka for mountains) and started a new life as a public-service environmental
educator. (House-6 = laboratory sciences and environmental issues).
Unfortunately, as we can see in the shad-bala
graph above, Surya is a very weak planet. Shukra the tenant dominates His
landlord.
Surya in Kanya/6 is often vigorously active
(and for this native Surya being yuti with L-1 Kuja and Rahu, she was
exceptionally athletic and a great enjoyer of outdoor sports).
However Surya here is lonely. Surya the
karaka for individual self and soul, does not flourish in the house of
conflict. Surya needs a deeply unified force to validate and promote the
identity. The person either becomes their work (house-6), or they wither
socially.
Thus, throughout Surya mahadasha the native
enjoyed a clean & healthy outdoor lifestyle where she role-modeled athletic
enthusiasm & used her detailed scientific knowledge of. Earth's natural
environment to great public benefit. She designed prize-winning outdoor
education school curricula, & taught thousands of children.
But underneath her public performance was
very low self-esteem. She struggled to recreate the glamour and ease of
her drug-driven tribal-party era of Shukra mahadasha... but couldn't. The
era had passed, both for her and for the surrounding American culture.
The only way she knew to have validation, or
to numb the suffering of low self-esteem caused by a weak identity, was to
bolster her feelings with drugs. Wanting to lubricate her social life with
co-workers, she arranged after-work parties with them, during which she indulged
famously. Unfortunately, in the outdoor sports and environmental education
communities, very few of her professional peers enjoyed heavy drugs.
She remained lonely and grew increasingly
despondent with life, occasionally arriving at work drunk. She was let go
(again) in Surya/Ketu bhukti.
As happens so often in the vimshottari
dasha, the qualities of a final bhukti give closure. The qualities of
Shukra, the final bhukti of Surya, are preeminently that He is supreme maraka
L-2/L-7; and that He is the karaka for sensual indulgence.
Native's death came at age 36 in Surya/Shukra
from an automobile accident, when her car plunged off a mountain road in a
single-vehicle crash. Head trauma was the immediate cause. Police report
states toxic level of blood alcohol at time of death.
