Health 6:
Burned over 30% of Body in House Fire
Near-fatal drowning
Extraordinary Healing
At age 36, this single father was massively burned in an accidental house fire, started by his toddler son.
At the time of the near-fatal accident, burns covered 30% of his body, primarily the arms & torso with severe tissue damage to face & hands.
Native rescued the child, who was also very slightly burned.
The terrible damage to his own body required extensive hospitalization then three years of physical therapy & multiple plastic surgeries.
The native has emerged from his ordeal, robust & attractive (despite some scarring) with a healthy social life. He returned to college at mid-life and completed a special education diploma. He now works with traumatized & difficult children.
Remarkably, the surgeries & physical therapy - although excruciatingly painful - were very successful. This native is naturally handsome. Most observers do not detect that he has been profoundly burned, except on rare occasions when the minor nerve damage in his hands is apparent..
Burn treatments on this scale are rarely so successful, but when L-8 is powerful, we can admire extraordinary healings.
This tragic fire occurred in the early days of Chandra/Guru period.
Second near-fatal accident: Amazingly, toward the end of Chandra/Guru period about 18 months after onset of his terrible burns (and in partial recovery from them), native attended a family picnic near a rushing river. He was sucked under water by the strong current, his arm skin still too damaged to allow forceful swimming, and nearly drowned but for the wise help of a child.
L-6 for medically recognized illness & chemical imbalance
L-8 for hidden illness, undiagnosable illness, and life-threatening transformations including surgeries
L-12 for addictions
L-3 for mental health disorders
lord of Trimshamsha
A Daunting Randhra bhava
Randhra bhava the house of surgery, transformation, healing, terrible sudden shocks such as earthquakes & tsunami's, contains L-3, L-8, L-9, L-10, and L-11.
In this nativity, randhra bhava receives the amplifying, dramatizing aspect of Rahu.
These near-fatal accidents occured during Rahu-Ketu transit to his Leo/Aquarius axis - the famed "Second Rahu Return" which can cause major havoc if rogue planets are involved (see death of Princess Diana her age 36, in 1997.)
The nodal return very much empowers Rahu, who grossly magnifies the emergency scenarios sitting in Randhra Bhava, just waiting to be "hatched".
Mula Moon, the Mahadasha Pati
Chandra lord of 8th-from-8th occupies occupies zero degrees of dusthana Randhra bhava with His lord L-8 Guru.
Chandra & Guru occupy the strange & often unfortunate Mula nakshatra.
Behari says of Moon in Mula nakshatra "When the Mula Nakshatra rises great relief is felt in lingering diseases."
L-8 Guru
Guru is not only sign lord but also occupies a higher degree, so that Chandra does Guru's bidding.
Guru is lord of Trimshamsha, the varga chart for misfortune.
Guru and Chandra are also yuti in D-30 - in Mesha, sign of Fire.
As if being L-8 yuti Shani and L-3 wasn't enough evil signification, we can be assured that as lord of D-30 Guru can cause some serious and shocking trouble
We can also appreciate that the karmic actions of L-8 are destined to produce spiritual growth and religious consciousness as well as leadership capacity, through L-8's proximity to L-9/L-10 Shani.
Why he didn't die: Faith
This native is quite spiritually aware. The pain & austerities imposed upon him by his horrible burns have in fact deepened his spiritual sensibilities.
According to the sages, Mula is a rather extreme location, from which frightening, hard-to-explain things seem to emerge. But since Mula is the gateway to the path to the central galactic Sun, these frightening things tend to have excellent spiritual results.
At the time of the native's terrible emergency, his prognosis for survival was questioned. However we note that no natural or temporal maraka is involved in this catastrophic series of events (fire, coma, multiple surgeries, unbearable pain, and drowning). The players in this event - L-3 Soma, L-8/L-11 Guru, L-9/L-10 Shani, nor Rahu (who gives the results of His lord L-4 Surya) - are none of them, marakas.
Therefore, awful as it looked at the time -- especially when attending physicians told the family not to expect recovery - since statistically few survive burns of this magnitude -- no prognosis of death could have been issued during Chandra/Guru.
The natural maraka qualities of Shani during the subsequent Chandra/Shani period might have called the native's survival into question. However, Shani's auspicious L-9/L-10 rulership and the fact that His natural powers are also destroyed in Randhra, ironically gives this native a quite long life!
His mother (Chandra) a licensed nurse, abandoned her own life for the duration of Chandra/Guru & Chandra/Shani periods to support his recovery. Thus he received very extraordinary and very devoted care during the critical period - no doubt essential to his amazing recovery.
However, the greatest influence upon this native's full rehabilitation to life, including 'almost' no permanent, severe damage to his appearance, was his own intrepid spiritual willingness to undergo whatever tests God provided him.
Despite excruciating pain, he maintained a trusting faith in God's will despite the fact that his pain looked and felt like random aggression upon him. The native did not slip into Victim Mind.
How Guru Deepens Faith through Crisis, in this nativity:
It is educational to observe effects of previous Guru bhukti's in this native's life in order to track the dramatic script of his "Rebirth Karma".
The native is not an externally dramatic man. He is a manual laborer who has occupied the ranks of the "working poor" for most of his life. Although capably intelligent & possessed of strong family values, his life path has been oft-diverted from the goal by many self-destructive choices. An utterly combust L-6 lagnesha and Guru's habit in DHanus/8 of seeking to enjoy the wealth of others, hasprevented this man from attaining much stability or wealth.
But he has always had faith.
Each of his Guru bhukti's has involved a catastrophic transformation. Each of these crises has served to deepen his faith in Divine Will - due in largest part, I think, to all-good Guru being swakshetra in his dusthana.
The first Shukra/Guru, an unsavory combination of L-6 and L-8 - but also L-1 and L-11, saw the native undertake - as a teenager - the "born-again" baptism of a large, urban Pentecostal Christian church. He left everything behind, including his parents, and joined a huge faith community (L-11) of adherents to a very strict, fundamentalist theology (L-6, moral police).
(The effects waned in Shukra/Shani, where Shani is L-9 in house-8 which destroys religion. He left the community soon afterward.)
L-4 Surya/Guru provided another major crisis. The native had swung from one pole to the other and had become a narcotics addict. In a classic 12-step conversion, he was again "born again", and left everything (except his children) behind. Divorced his wife, severed all friendships, even left his job in order to get "clean". It worked. Surya/Guru occupy a strong and harmonious 7/7 angle. L-11 Guru again brought a large, shared-belief community.
Chandra/Guru gave the potentially disfiguring and supremely painful 3rd-degree burns discussed at length above, followed by a near-drowning. The native handled the crisis of near-death-and-rebirth with seasoned aplomb. Chandra/Guru form a very potent 1/1 angle. Recovery with full integrity (1/1) was remarkably complete.
Kuja/Guru form the most auspicious 5/9 angle, and the results have been excellent. The native was again "reborn" by graduating from college with a head full of gray hair, and becoming a schoolteacher. College study in midlife with dependent children and grandchildren has been it's own small crisis, but very importantly Kuja is L-7 a career house, and Guru does the bidding of L-10 Shani who definitely rules profession. Swakshetra Guru's association with humanistic education is well known.
Rahu/Guru may also be expected to produce good results, especially good professional results, because Rahu and Guru form another auspicious 5/9 angle & Rahu occupies the 4th house of education.
