VIII. Vrischika.
It is stated by ancient philosophers that the sun when located in this Rasi or sign is called by the name of Vishnu (see the 12th Skandha of Bhagavata).
This sign is intended to represent Vishnu.
Vishnu literally means that which is expanded -- expanded as Viswam or Universe.
Properly speaking, Viswam itself is Vishnu (see Sankaracharya's commentary on Vishnusahasranamam).
I have already intimated that Vishnu represents the Swapnavastha or the Dreaming State.
The sign in question properly signifies the universe in thought or the universe in the divine conception.
It is properly placed as the sign opposite to Rishabham or Pranava.
Analysis from Pranava downwards leads to the Universe of Thought, and synthesis from the latter upwards leads to Pranava (Aum).
We have now arrived at the ideal state of the universe previous to its coming into material existence.
The expansion of the Vija or primitive germ into the universe is only possible when the 36 "Tatwams" * are interposed between the Maya and Jivatma.
The dreaming state is induced through the instrumentality of these "Tatwams." It is the existence of these Tatwams that brings Hamsa into existence.
The elimination of these Tatwams marks the beginning of the synthesis towards Pranava and Brahmam and converts Hamsa into Soham.
As it is intended to represent the different stages of evolution from Brahmam downwards to the material universe, the three signs Kanya, Tula, and Vrischika are placed in the order in which they now stand as three separate signs.

It's not normally a regular-salary type of contribution.

L-10 Surya is a double career karaka. Periods of Surya will advance career & public position. Unfavorable for the affairs of one's younger siblings, as Surya = L-8 vis-à-vis bhratru bhava.
L-9 Chandra signifies religious ritual & priestly duties. Periods of L-9 bring auspicious travel & spiritual advancement through religious fellowship. Favorable for university life, and auspicious for the affairs of one's children. Periods of Chandra energize the spouse's siblings.
Lagnesha and L-6, Kuja is the most influential graha for Nakra lagna following the importance of the Moon. Kuja's character in rashi & bhava will determine the field of action for the perpetual competition and combat which propel this highly vital native into life and work.
One may be a ground-breaking researcher, a brilliant healer, a genius financier, or a fierce warrior.
One may hunt with physical weapons, or with the mind. Shamanist influences arising from Kuja's natural lordship of the Tantrik 8th domain are part of the native's shrewd, perceptive, intense way of being.

Surya-Chandra are the 10th-9th lords, so Vrischikha rising is predisposed to assume teaching& leadership responsibilities. The self-concept is one of inherent capability. When the Scorpio lagna person looks in the mirror, s/he sees one destined to guide the people.
The details of how they guide their people depend largely on the house& sign position of Surya& Chandra, drishti's to the luminaries,& other adjustments to the general truth that when Ravi is 10th lord the person is born to rule,& when Chandra is 9th lord the moral& religious intuition is highly developed.

The yoga provides a 6/8 Sun-Moon angle, which is less favorable for smooth expression of leadership intelligence. Although she will be respected for her competence due to the powerful position of Surya, she may contradict herself due to the 6/8& thus lose the people's trust. Inner& outer self are not fully coordinated/are imbalanced in the 6/8 Sun-Moon yoga.
Another arrangement might be Ravi in Kanya/11th while Chandra occupies Meena/5th. Chandra as dharma lord brings many blessings to putra bhava& when Ravi occupies the 7th from Chandra, the White Moon (full moon) obtains, giving smooth coordination of inner& outer self-concepts in the world. Professional expression is sensible to the public. Material gains [Surya/11]& honor are granted for work of creativity [Soma/5]& romance [7/7 yoga Sun-Moon].
Kuja - Mars is lagnesha
Mangala's position will make or break the success of Vrischikha lagna folks. Mangala will show the style& direction in which the life force wishes to travel.
Should Kuja be exalted, in own sign, in parivartan with his lord, or in kendra, the Vrischikha lagna native will enjoy worldly success. The stronger Kuja's traits the strong the native's performance in his specialty.
Guru, Shukra,& other benefics will contribute their own measure of talent& capability to the life. However, the lagnesha Kuja has amplified powers.
Kuja is not a reflective force but rather active& productive. He never loses his malefic quality - his drive to create competition, aggression, war - but he may give excellent worldly results when he is well placed.
For example:
if Kuja occupies Makara in sahaja bhava, he marks excellence in business& a propensity to create self-made wealth. Add a parivartan with Shani rising in Scorpio (every 29 years a batch of these people are born!)& see the prognosis for self-made wealth through determined hard work, dominating aggressiveness,& sharp business judgment.
By contrast, if Kuja occupies Kumbha, the sign of his enemy, in bandhu bhava, the individual may find that their life force tends to implode. There is little useful expression in the outside world due to the combined oppression of Kuja plunged into the emotional realm of the 4th house& doubly chained to the whims of his adversarial lord Shani.
The power of kendra is somewhat helpful, providing the stamina to keep this person alive& working until Shani becomes more friendly - usually in middle age. Shani is friendly to age, experience, wisdom, conservative principles, delayed judgments, etc.
This situation of Mangala will be extremely difficult until Kuja reaches his maturity at age 28; thereafter a comparatively less oppressed period until the 2nd Saturn return in the mid-forties;& thereafter until death (depending on dasha effects) this Mars becomes easier to manage as the body& emotions are less turbulent in age.
Power of Parivartana for Vrischika lagna:
There are four possible parivartana yogas for Kuja lagnesha:
Mangala in Makara with Shani in Vrischika - this yoga is the best for material gain because:
lord Shani is the gainful 11th-from his tenant Kuja,
while lagnesha Kuja is self-made-wealth 3rd-from his tenant Shani.
Mangala in Kumbha with Shani in Vrischika - this yoga is the best for public status, respect,& professional recognition because:
lord Shani is the respectful 10th-from his tenant Kuja,
while Lord Kuja is the social-emotional security 4th-from his tenant Shani.
Mangala in Makara with Shani in Mesha - this yoga is also good for public status& professional recognition because the same 4/10 yoga obtains.
Neechha Shani will occupy the dusthana 6th house karmically obliging the person to handle the suffering of the masses - poverty, disease, hatred -
yet Shani emerges through the parivartan into the very powerful neechha banga condition,
causing the person to rise very high in organizations which serve the suffering.
There may be much combat in this life
but the person has undeniable business skills from the uccha lagnesha Kuja
Kuja will give increasingly obvious results after age 28.
Superior performance in military settings.
Mangala in Kumbha with Shani in Mesha -- this yoga is also favorable for material gain because:
lord Shani is self-made-wealth 3rd from his tenant Kuja,
while Lord Kuja occupies the gainful 11th from his tenant Shani.
Wealth may be gained via unscrupulous means involving exploitation,
and there may be profound emotional turmoil ( with an abstract, philosophical calm in the eye of the hurricane)
but the person gains tremendous worldly power.
Overcoming Fundamental Ignorance
"One time when I was giving an exposition on Nagarjuna's Fundamentals of the Middle Way, which deals explicitly with the topic of emptiness, one student who did not have a prior background of learning in great treatises made a comment to another colleague.
He said: 'Today's teaching was a little strange. His Holiness began with the presentation of the Buddha's path and built up the edifice one layer at a time.
Then, all of a sudden, he started talking about emptiness and the absence of inherent existence, so that this whole edifice he had spent much time building was completely dismantled.'
He couldn't really see the point. There is that danger.
However, if we understand the importance of the need to generate wisdom into emptiness
as a means of bringing about the cessation of the afflictions,
particularly fundamental ignorance,
then we recognize the value of deepening our realization of emptiness.
Also, as Dharmakirti points out, emotions such as loving kindness and compassion cannot directly challenge fundamental ignorance.
It is only by cultivating insight into no-self that we can directly overcome our fundamental ignorance."
