This naive young student from a small village was the
first person in her family to attend a university. She was enchanted with
the international (Rahu) excitement of university life. She fell in love with a
foreign exchange student, traveled with him to his homeland, and married
him there, suddenly (Shukra-Rahu period). She did not understand the
language of the vows nor the meaning of the ceremony, but she did intend
to be married!
In the husband's distant land, she became a foreign
language teacher (Guru-12). However she faced constant isolation
(Shani-12) and cultural disapproval (Shani) for not being the right kind
of wife (Shani-Rahu).
The young couple returned to the wife's country (Guru,
L-4) so the wife could continue her education. The husband is comfortable
in the wife's country (L-4 Guru also = husband). However his business
activities (Kuja) directed him into some hidden relationships (L-7
navamsha = Shukra in domain-8, mysteries). The couple divorced just as
suddenly as they had married, still in their mid-twenties.
Guru-12 = husband from a foreign land. Guru + Rahu =
husband from a shockingly different cultural, religious, &
linguistic background. Guru + Rahu + Mangala = impulsive first marriage in
a foreign land. Guru + L-6 Shani = constant breakdown of agreements. Guru
+ L-8 Mangala = husband's hidden liaisons.
This young woman can be predicted to marry another foreign
husband, under much less favorable conditions, in the near future. The reason
for this unfortunate prediction is that Shani = karaka for second husband, and
Shani is poorly disposed in both domain-12 and in Simha, a hostile rashi for
Shani. Furthermore Shani = L-6 from lagna and L-8 from Chandra. Furthermore
Rahu occupies the 2nd navamsha, and similar to husband-1, husband-2 will be
prone to clandestine relationships due to L-2 navamsha = Shukra/8 in a rashi
of Mangala.
Considering the excitability and impulsiveness of Mangala +
Rahu in the 12th house with Shani, and the opposing Budha-Ketu pair, the
native could be positioned to endure quite a number of marriages.
Finally, Surya in domain-7 is nearly always unfortunate for
marriage As Behari says in Planets in Signs and Houses, "When the Sun occupies
[Meena/7] there is constant tension in your mind. All human partnerships are greatly colored by your marriage, which often stunts the growth of your personality. Your first marriage partner may die or there will be early separation and you may marry several times."

Guru-Kumbha-8: still unmarried
The female native, who at the time of this writing celebrates
her 65th birthday, has never married. She is religious by nature (Pushya lagna
with a Revati Moon) and toward her sixth decade she did join a celibate
religious community. Before that, for more than fifty years, she chose to live
alone without sexual or romantic partnership.
This senior woman has managed a debilitating glandular
disorder (Guru = L-6; Kuja-Kanya + Ketu; Chandra + Rahu) since childhood, and
according to the native she needs all of her energy to care for herself. She
cannot imagine having the energy to care for another person.
Husband karaka = Guru is very much oppressed by Shani's
message of moral duty and responsibility. Behari says of this Shani, "You face financial hardship. Your mind becomes irritable and your relations part company with you. You may suffer from speech problems or poor eyesight. Saturn can inflict
serious mortal blows."
The native has suffered severe financial problems to the point
of poverty throughout her life. Normally, marriage helps both partners
financially - Shukra the karaka for marriage is also the karaka for wealth.
However in this case, vargottama L-7 navamsha Guru is completely controlled by
wealth-blocking Shani and of course Brihaspati occupies the destructive 8th
house.
Interestingly the native's experience of intimate touch
approximating marriage has mainly occurred on the medical examining table. The
native has formed "crush" romances on several of her attending
physicians - Guru in Shatataraka, "1000 physicians". At one point in
her life the native admits she used to fabricate reasons to get medical
appointments because she craved the company of her partnering physicians.
L-6/L-9 Guru, lord of Chandra (motherhood) in
12th-from-Chandra, in randhra bhava, a house of mysteries and secret
information, owned and aspected by maraka Lord Shani from the house of death.
Chandra's lord Guru being incapacitated, the native never experienced
motherhood. Nevertheless the native has helped many through a lifetime
of volunteer work with those less fortunate.
Behari says of Guru/Kumbha/8: "You are a spiritual individual who will understand the esoteric significance of religious rituals. You will be immensely lucky as far as spiritual life is concerned; will be a teacher commanding a large number of people. You may enter into a liaison with a married partner in order to achieve sexual fulfillment; inherit much wealth and power. Longevity, however, may be harmed: you will be born to complete some specific duty for society, and, having completed it, you will depart."

Guru-Kumbha-8: still unmarried
The female native in example-3 is twelve years younger than
the female in example-2. At the time of writing she is advancing into middle
age, still unmarried although she has enjoyed several long-term romances. (Rahu
in lagna gives her an attractive appearance.) Nevertheless Guru in a rashi of Shani in the
destructive 8th house has so far prevented a ceremonial marriage. Her longest committed
adult relationship ended with the catastrophic suicide of her male mate
(Guru/L-2 Surya period)
L-7/L-7 navamsha = Shani, and Shani becomes very ambivalent
about material rules and social customs when He is too close to Ketu. Shani's
ambivalence as Guru's lord in 12th-from-Guru represents the ambivalence of her
live-in adult male partners toward marriage. The men she gets involved with
are attracted to her and admire her artistic talents, but they do not wish to
encumber their lives with the responsibilities of marriage.
Again, Guru as husband-karaka in domain-8 is initially
inauspicious, then it depends on the role of Guru's lord, the role of L-7
navamsha, and to some extent the role of L-7 radix whether Guru will feel some
relief even in the eighth house of chronic instability and upheaval. In this
case there is no relief from Shani, who is (1) with Ketu (2) in yuvati bhava
12th-from-Guru (3) lord of 7uth navamsha. The native will likely remain
unmarried, due ultimately to Ketu.

Marilyn Monroe: Three Marriages
Another case of Guru-Kumbha-8,
with the difference of yogakaraka L-5/L-10 Kuja overpowering Guru to
get the marriage sequence started! Here is the nativity of the famous actress,
model, and musical performer Norma Jean Mortensen, a.k.a., "Marilyn
Monroe". Ms. Monroe's marriages are known.
Her first marriage at age sixteen to a Mr. James
Dougherty was arranged by family members. Mr. Dougherty was away in military
service (Kuja) during most of their brief marriage. Guru = lord of Ketu-6.
Second marriage to the celebrity athlete Joe Di Maggio
= uchcha Shani in kendra-4, a very good graha indeed. Unfortunately Shani =
L-8, and the tenants of randhra bhava, the L-6 Guru and self-destructive but
celebrity-icon-mystery-making Kuja, occupy second-from-Chandra, and these
graha are problematic throughout life. The stability
of DiMaggio's lifelong devotion to Monroe is legendary, but so is his
outburst of angry shouting and frustration with the demands of her career
(career = L-5/L-10 Kuja, which provokes shouting in 2nd from Chandra).
Third marriage to the acclaimed playwright, Arthur
Miller. To determine which of the graha that are affected by Shani would serve
as karaka for the third husband, it should be assessed which graha receives
the strongest and most direct influence. In this case Shukra is not only lord
of Shani but also in mutual aspect to Shani, therefore L-4/L-11 Shukra would
be the preferred karaka for husband-3. Significations of Shukra are favorable
in general, esp. considering that Shukra = yogakaraka L-5/L-10 from Chandra -
a great asset to her reputation, public recognition, and career.
However Shukra in Mesha and in domain-10 also indicates
self-admiration and selfishness, suggesting that the third husband was more
concerned with his own career and reputation than with the well-being of his
spouse. Shukra is also controlled by the self-destructive 8th-house Kuja
which does seem to curse all of her marriages. Shukra-Mesha-10 is associated
with extreme stress from public performance..
Behari says of Shukra/Mesha/10, "You are very passionate and thus come into direct contact with people; your primary contact with society arises from sensitivity to the weaknesses and needs of others. The fine arts, musical talent, painting and dancing are some of the possible expressions of the inner experience of beauty which surrounds you, but the precise form in which the experience is externalized will depend on your perception of what society needs at the moment. It may take shape as diverse as religious teaching and guidance on one hand, or prostitution and pornography on the other, or it could simply make you very cooperative in the office. What is important is sensitivity to the needs, weaknesses and desires of other people. There will invariably be
tremendous strain on you, which may lead to nervous breakdown or some other psycho physical reaction to social
interaction."

Neechcha Guru takes drishti of neechcha Kuja
-
First husband = unstable,
over-confident, emotionally reactive
-
second husband = stable mate and father
This young female physician married her first husband at age
35. She felt that her time of marriage had been long delayed by her financial
responsibilities in establishing her medical practice. However she was ready
to marry when the time came. The first husband was about 10 years her senior
(Guru with swakshetra Shani).
The first husband turned out to have some mental problems.
Ketu in 7th navamsha ruled by neechcha Guru. L-8 Guru is not in kendra so even
though Guru is with swakshetra Shani, Guru remains the neechcha L-8 from lagna
and L-6 from Chandra, naturally unfavorable.
The neechcha Guru generally indicates false confidence or
inflated confidence, and Guru's proximity to Shani here indicates a husband
with the character flaw of covering up his underlying fearful conservatism
(Shani) with a grandiose and reactive (drishti of neechcha Kuja) display of
outrage. The native sustained the formal marriage much longer than her
emotions wanted, due to the conservative power of Guru's lord Shani. But
eventually the first husband's volatility overwhelmed her sense of good order
in life, and his financial overconfidence has undermined her business
stability to the point where she divorced him.
The interesting point in this female nativity is that Guru and
Shani = less than seven degrees apart. As her first husband was pursuing
several quixotic lawsuits (Guru neechcha in Makara, the Law) the female
bonded with a close friend of her husband. Shani is a favorable L-9/L-10 from
lagna and a slightly less auspicious L-7/L-8 from Chandra. Shani is much more
stable than Guru. The female entered into a relationship with the second
husband, who was a friend and business associate of the first husband, at the
onset of divorce proceedings, and she married the second husband almost as
soon as her divorce was granted.
Also interesting, the native had been unable to carry a
pregnancy to term despite several attempts during the first marriage
(Guru neechcha) yet within a year of her second marriage = L-9 swakshetra
Shani she was able to deliver a healthy child. Second marriage indicated by
2nd navamsha = swakshetra Chandra for parenthood.

May all beings venerate life as a
state of deep spiritual intimacy.
