Shukra Checklist - for Easy Human Partnerships

"Women have served all these centuries as looking glasses possessing the magic and delicious power of reflecting the figure of man, at twice its natural size. " ~~ Virginia Woolf  (A Room of One's Own)

Q:

Respected Madam, Namaskar.

Thank you for writing the article of difference of Surya and Shukra in marriage

Shukra indeed is the Karka of Marriage. Many people in world enjoy marriage, partnership successfully. These people have benefic Venus in benefic situation in horoscope.

Q) What indicators in chart show that the person will get the partner of his/her desire, i  agree, with the fact that perfect partners do not exist, but perfect relationships do. How Will one get a partner who is similarly orientated with the bent of mind to sustain the marriage partnerships.

It has been written in Shastras that a man is lucky if he is blessed with virtuous wife, and happy home. What astrological combination ensure such a blessing. Best Regards Jai Ganesha.

Easy Human Partnerships: Reading Shukra in both radix and navamsha

Positives:

  • Shukra in a kendra or trine from the line of the eastern horizon or "lagna" (material life)
  • Shukra in a kendra or trine from Chandra (psycho-emotional life)
  • Shukra in a hospitable rashi Shukra's lord is well disposed (in a kendra from Shukra, in a favorable rashi)
  • Shukra receives drishti of friendly graha
  • Shukra = lord of bhagya houses
  • Shukra has an easy relationship to L-7 from rashi lagna and L-7 from Chandra lagna

Negatives:

  • Shukra = moudhya
  • Shukra = neechcha
  • Shukra = in Rahu-Ketu axis or drishti of Rahu
  • Shukra = in dusthamsha (6, 8, 12) from lagna
  • Shukra = in dusthamsha (6, 8, 12) from Chandra
  • Shukra = lord of dusthamsha (6, 8, 12)
  • Shukra's lord = ill-disposed
  • Shukra = difficult relationship to the L-7
  • Shukra = receives drishti of an enemy (Surya, Chandra) -

Special Problems for Shukra:

  • Shukra in 7th-from-Chandra is not beneficial, due to mutual aspect of two mutual enemies: Shukra and Chandra

  • Shukra yuti Chandra is also unfavorable; these two enemies in the same house will aggravate the sensual-emotional nature. May cause "spoiled" moral character, impulsive acquisitiveness, & emotional enslavement to sense pleasures. Extreme, if Rahu-Ketu are involved. The native is physically attractive.

    Examples:

  • Shukra is particularly damaged by proximity to Ketu. Shukra + Ketu = the native is permanently separated from the experience of balanced relationship due to chronic dissatisfaction with the beauty or attractiveness of the beloved. One is unable to acquire relationship negotiation skills due to a fundamental disdain (Ketu) for the partner (Shukra).

  • Altho neechcha Shukra is harmful to balanced relationships, uchcha  Shukra is also often harmful because it increases the attractiveness of the spouse to others

  • Uchcha Shukra is wonderful for giving beauty, artistic gift, and musical talent, however uchcha Shukra can be problematic for marriage UNLESS Shukra receives the sobering drishti of friendly Shani

What Shukra Does

Shukra gets pleasure from perishable things: human bodily senses, earthly knowledge, hoards of wealth, social approval, etc.

If Shukra is well situated, one will attract a partner who shares most of one's perishable-things tastes and values, and one will have a happy sensual life on Earth.

What Shukra Does Not

Shukra does not advance the wisdom (Guru), discrimination (Budha), vitality (Kuja), faith (Surya) compassion (Chandra) or humility (Shani).

Shukra is concerned with material acquisition and maintaining lineage values (2) and with sensual pleasures of human social companionship (from gross to elegant) (7)

Hidden Benefits of a Damaged Shukra

Shukra is called the "daityaguru" because He encourages the native to become distracted by "demonic" hoarding, attracting, and pleasuring behaviors which do not transfer across the portal at the time of death and which therefore have no eternal value.

An empowered Shukra can create seductive entrapment on the material plane.

Thus an unfavorable position for Shukra may indicate that the native has earned liberation from the enslavement of sensual pleasures. As a result of a disempowered Shukra, the native may be favorably positioned to enjoy significant spiritual progress.

Q: Hi Barbara,

I’ve just read your article on your website, re ‘’Shukra Checklist for easy partnerships’’. In it you mention the effects of Shukra ‘’YUTI’’ Ketu .

My question is, do these ‘’yuti’’ effects also apply if Ketu is located in any of Shukra’s houses (Taurus, Libra)?

Or, indeed, do grahas give ‘’yuti’’ effects if they are located in particular houses (eg Mars in Cancer, will it give effects of Mars yuti Moon, because it is in the house of Chandra?)

A: Namaste,

Yes I think you're correct, there is a subtle Ketu-yuti effect upon Shukra when Ketu occupies Thula or Vrishabha rashi. It is not the distancing and ambivalence toward the female spouse and toward marriage partnerships in general such as we see when Ketu shares Shukra's house, but rather a general detachment from wealth and sensual pleasures (Vrishabha) and from the joys of equity and partnership (Thula) which Shukra brings into the life. When Shukra's functions are reduced by Ketu's presence on one of Shukra's houses, Shukra's power to manifest a wife who is pleasuring and invested in the partnership will be reduced. Similar effects for business partnerships in re: the partner's engagement in building wealth (Vrishabha) and keeping the promises invested in the agreement (Thula).

Also you're correct IMO about the understanding that Kuja in Karkata rashi has attributes of Chandra-Mangala yoga. When Kuja is with Soma in the same house, the native is active and ambitious (Kuja) to develop emotional security (Chandra) through material wealth, thus Chandra-Mangala yoga can be a big money-maker if occurring in houses 1, 2, 5, 9, or 11.

The neechcha Kuja is emotionally disturbed due to volatile parenting (typically neechcha Kuja is raised by someone other than the natural parents). The native typically = quite passive-aggressive in one's methods of trying to achieve emotional attention.

Acquisition of material wealth (frequently through surreptitious or fraudulent means) is a goal of the neechcha Kuja who feels wronged, and wants to compensate by taking the wealth of others. They are "sponges" who absorb the product of others' work.

The Chandra-Mangala yoga native is also emotionally volatile, but if the yoga occurs in a dhana house then despite their emotional volatility the wealth will be generated and the native may have a good career due to their personal productivity. The spouse may find such a native difficult to live with at times, but the spouse can also appreciate the engine of productivity and the fruits of profit that this engine can create.

The same thing is generally true of neechcha Mangala in a money house, esp. in domain-11: there can be spectacular wealth development due to the native's intense psychological drive toward security and belongingness, which is commonly (if falsely) believed to be provided by owning properties and storing money. Unfortunately the neechcha Kuja's wealth if it does occur may be acquired through parasitic dependence on others, deceptive manipulations, or theft.

It is quite reasonable to continue the logic of association between the characteristics of a graha as posited in a rashi, as being similar to the characteristics of that graha when the graha is a co-tenant with the lord of that rashi. E.g., it is good for conceptual learning in Jyotisha studies to consider that Guru in Kumbha is quite similar to Guru + Shani when Shani has the higher degree. Guru's natural abundant expansion will be curbed and limited by fearful, law-abiding Shani; and Guru will need to seek the most conservative, socially approved channels of expression for obtainment of religious and philosophical wisdom.

Hope this viewpoint is helpful. All the best,

Barbara Pijan Lama, Jyotisha

May all beings venerate life as a state of deep spiritual intimacy.
