Who Will I Marry?

Marriage Timing

via D-9 Navamshaand Gochara Rahu-Ketu

Navamsha

Varga or "divisional" charts show the resultsof any undertaking of life.

The varga for marriage is "Navamsha" (9th-division, D-9) which shows the " fruits of Dharma."

  • Presuming an accurate birth time, navamsha (D-9) must be consulted side-by-side with radix (D-1) chart, to evaluate not only the material but also the inner psychological dynamics of marriage.

Accurate predictions require coordinated action between the native 's material life (D-1) and their psycho-emotional life (D-9) .

Timing of marriage -- and Remarriage

As detailed on the marriage page, ceremonial marriage occurs only when two conditions are simultaneously met:

1. Vimshottari bhukti of the *navamsha-activated*marriage maker(s) within this group:

  • navamsha L-1

  • navamsha L-7

  • Shani, Shukra, Rahu

  • (Ketu and Grahayuti Ketu are normally disqualified due to Ketu = karaka for disconnection and separation)

--AND--

2. gochara Rahu-Ketu should be crossing one of these marriage lagnas:

  1. D-1 lagna

  2. D-9 lagna

  3. D-1 natal Rahu-Ketu lagna

  4. D-9 natal Rahu-Ketu lagna

  5. D-1 Chandra lagna

  6. D-9 Chandra lagna

  7. D-1 Shukra lagna

Navamsha Activation of Marriage-makers

In order to produce marriage, a marriage-maker graha must occupy the rashi of another marriage signifierwithin D-9

Female Nativity, First and Second Marriage

This female native entered marriageable age in her culture toward the beginning of Ketu Mahadasha. the native 's parents therefore became interested to know her marriage forecast.

The potential marriage-maker bhukti-pati's for this female nativity are:

  • navamsha L1 = Chandra

  • navamsha L7 = Shani

  • The karakas = Shukra and Rahu

Navamsha Activation:

The D-9 position of a potential marriage-maker graha must be linked to another marriage signifier in order to produce marriage.

Of the four potential marriage-makers within this nativity, Only Rahu will produce a marriage.

  • D-9 Chandra in rashi of Mangala. Mangala is not a marriage maker.

  • D-9 Shani in rashi of Surya. Surya is not a marriage-maker.

  • D-9 Shukra in rashi of Mangala. Mangala is not a marriage maker.

  • D-9 Rahu in rashi of Shukra. Shukra is a marriage maker.Rahu is marriage-activated.

Gochara Rahu-Ketu to marriage lagnas

Marriage also requires the simultaneous contact to One of these these lagnasduring the bhukti of the activated marriage-maker graha:

  • D-1 nodes = Vrischika/Vrishabha

  • D-9 nodes = Mesha/Tula

  • D-1 lagna = Vrischika/Vrishabha

  • D-9 lagna = Makara/Karkata

  • D-1 Chandra = Meena/Kanya

  • possibly, D-9 Chandra = Vrischika/Vrishabha

  • possibly, D-1 Shukra = Dhanau/Mithuna

Because several of the key lagnas are identical, The list of required gochara node contact lagnasis reduced to:

  • Vrischika/Vrishabha

  • Mesha/Tula

  • Makara/Karkata

  • Meena/Kanya

  • Dhanau/Mithuna

Ketu/Rahu period: Marriage time? No.

Ketu/Rahu period occurred during the year Jan-1979 until Jan-1980(see Vimshottari timeline, above).

Native was of marriageable age.

  • Jan-1979 until Jan-1980, gochara Rahu-Ketu transited Simha-Kumbha

  • unfortunately this lagna is not one of the required marriage lagnas for this nativity

Therefore no marriage occurred in Ketu-Rahu bhukti.

Shukra/Rahu period: Marriage time? Yes.

Shukra/Rahu period occurred during the year Apr-1990 until Apr-1993(see Vimshottari timeline, above).

Native was of marriageable age.

  • Apr-1990 until Apr-1993, gochara Rahu-Ketu transited:

    • Makara/Karkata[Apr-1990-until-Apr-1991]

    • Dhanau-Mithuna [Apr-1991-until-Oct-1992]

    • Vrischika/Vrishabha [Nov-1992-until-Apr-1993]

Makara/Karkata[Apr-1990-until-Apr-1991] is one of the marriage lagnas which satisfies the rule.

Therefore marriage occurred in Shukra-Rahu bhukti.

    Marriage date = Aug-1990.

The first marriage concluded by divorce in Surya/Guruperiod, where Guru is the divorce-maker = radix L2.

the native remained of marriageable age in her culture. Native enquired regarding prognosis for a second marriage.

    • Second marriage indicated in the kalatra-rekha (marriage lines) on the outside edge of the right palm. Therefore Jyotisha inquiry into timing of second marriage is warranted.

Following Surya/Guru period, the next activated marriage bhukti in this nativity would be the 17-month window of Chandra/Rahuperiod: July-2010 -until- Dec-2011

Gochara Rahu-Ketu will contact these lagnas during the native 's Chandra/Rahu bhukti:

    • Dhanau-Mithuna[July-2010-until-May-2011] - a marriage lagna

    • Vrischika/Vrishabha[Jun-2011-until-Dec-2011]

Native will be of marriageable age during the period July-2010-until-May-2011.

Therefore the earliest possible occurrence of a second marriage = July-2010-until-May-2011

The same navamsha and gochara nodes analysis may be followed to observe the timing of marriage prediction for the celebrity nativity of Charles, Prince of Wales.

Potential marriage-maker bhukti-pati for this male nativity =

    • navamsha L1 = Budha

    • navamsha L7 = Guru

    • The karakas = Shukra, Shani and Rahu-Ketu

    Navamsha Activation:

In order to produce marriage, a marriage-maker graha must occupy the rashi of another marriage signifierwithin D-9

    1. D-9 Budha in rashi of marriage-maker karaka Shani. Budha is marriage-activated.

    2. D-9 Guru in rashi of navamsha L1 Budha. Guru is marriage-activated.

    3. D-9 Shukra in rashi of Chandra. Shukra is not marriage-activated because Chandra is not a marriage-maker.

    4. D-9 Shani in rashi of Chandra. Shani is not marriage-activated because Chandra is not a marriage-maker.

    5. D-9 Rahu in rashi of Chandra. Rahu is not marriage-activated because Chandra is not a marriage-maker.

    6. D-9 Ketu in rashi of marriage-maker karaka Shani. However, Ketu is the karaka for disconnection and separation, so Ketu is not marriage-activated.

The bhukti periods of Budha and Guru are navamsha marriage activated.

    Gochara Rahu-Ketu to marriage lagnas

Marriage also requires the simultaneous contact to One of these these lagnasduring the bhukti of the activated marriage-maker graha:

    • D-1 nodes = Mesha/Tula

    • D-9 nodes = Karka/Makara

    • D-1 lagna = Karka/Makara

    • D-9 lagna = Meena/Kanya

    • D-1 Chandra = Mesha/Tula

    • possibly, D-9 Chandra = Dhanau/Mithuna

    • possibly, D-1 Shukra = Meena/Kanya

Because several of the key lagnas are identical, The list of required gochara node contact lagnasis reduced to:

    • Karka/Makara

    • Mesha/Thula- not a marriage lagna due to Chandra's association with Ketu

    • Meena/Kanya

    • Dhanau/Mithuna

First marriage occurred 29-July-1981in Chandra/Guruperiod, where Guru is marriage-activated. Gochara nodes crossing the potent Karkata/Makaralagna.

he long and complex Divorce proceeding from first marriage began during Kuja/Ketu period where Ketu is the karaka for disconnection and separation.

Following divorce, the first bhukti for potential second marriage is Rahu/Guru, Oct 1997 until Feb-2000.

    During Rahu/Guru, gochara Rahu-Ketu transited:

    • Simha/Kumbha [Oct-1997 until Jan-1999] - not a marriage lagna

    • Karka/Makara [Feb 1999 until Feb-2000] - Amarriage lagna

    • he prince was enduring an excruciating sade saati during the marriage period Feb-1999 until Feb-2000. I am willing to speculate that while maternal and patriotic resistance created by sade saati prevented a public marriage ceremony, a private ceremony could conceivably have been conducted within this window.

    • However there are certain "showstopper" transits in a person's life, and the most powerful amongst them is indeed the Sade Saati. It is more likely that Sade Saati - Shani's brutal transit to this most delicate of all lagnas in the nativity, for an international royal with an exceptionally controlling mother, and a major marriage point - simply blocked the natural marriage timing from manifestation.

The next navamsha-activated marriage bhukti is Rahu/Budha,Jan-2003 until July-2005.

Gochara Rahu-Ketu were crossing these lagna:

    • Vrischika/Vrishabha [jan-Sep-2003] - not a marriage lagna

    • Mesha/Thula- [Sep 2003 - Apr 2005] - this is a normally a marriage lagna, but Chandra's association with Ketu (and everything on the radix Thula/Mesha lagna) makes it problematic

    • Meena/Kanya lagna- Apr-2005 until Oct-2006. This is a marriage lagna, = D-1 Shukra/D-9.

      • SecondMarriage sanctified on 9-April-2005.

Q: This year Rahu-Ketu transits my navamsha Shukra place. As you know I am dating a guy that I am really crazy about, even though my parents are rather dim on the idea. He's been divorced, and that's a big obstacle for them - a showstopper, really - but I am keen to marry this man. The attraction is very intense. You've said that Rahu's effect on Shukra is usually "sensualizing not stabilizing" and that my parent's objections are probably spot on ... but love is love ... and I love him! Could Rahu's transit to Shukra in my navamsha be the signal of a marriage this summer?

A: Rahu-Ketu transit to the Shukra axis

Yes, it does happen rarely that Rahu-Ketu transit to the Shukra axis of either radix or navamsha is the only presenting evidence of meeting the marriage conditions - rule-1 being a proper bhukti and rule-2 being a gochara R-K contact to a key lagna.

But it's very occasional and I've only seen it in male nativities, where Shukra is not only the karaka for the marriage contract but also Shukra = karaka for the wife herself. Shukra has less power to determine marriage for a female: Jupiter represents the first husband for a woman, and Shani her second husband if any. So I would be surprised if an R-K transit to Shukra was enough to satisfy the marriage timing rule.

On the other hand, never say never! As most accomplished Jyotishi will confirm, astrology is a 'science of tendencies' (as Suryanarian Rao was quoted by his grandson BV Raman) and becoming too attached to fixed rules is not a good idea. Still, in my practice, I've only seen the R-k Transit to Shukra in male nativities and I would be quite surprised to see it have marriage-making power in a woman's chart.

May all beings venerate life as a state of deep spiritual intimacy.
