Unions 11:

Male-Male Partnership with Children

These professional-class, socially active men have enjoyed a 15-year union.

Since establishing their partnership, they have acquired two adored children, built a happy secure home, and developed strongly engaged managerial careers.

Their relationship is honest & mindful in spite of the normal stress of a minority lifestyle and middle aged working life.  Their children are flourishing.

Due to their highly communicative Mithuna Moons, these partners get along with a wide variety of people in their professional & family networks. Both of them have active, supportive siblings who contribute to the emotional health of this partnership.

They belong to a supportive minority parenting community, and each is individually skillful in talking with their children and their own parents.

In their forties, this couple has fixed their joint attention on realizing the American Dream: a good life filled with friends & family; a comfortable retirement enjoying travel & entertainment; college for their children; and - the new factor these days - quality care for their aging parents.

Psycho-emotional matches are reasonably broad and the two Radix Moons are well supported in the mutual awareness of each partner.  However with only 2 axes engaged, this couple tends to be heavily focused on their home (Chandra) and therefore slightly isolated. This is a non-traditional relationship which receives support from fewer communities.

  • partner-1 radix Moon & nodal axis match partner-2's navamsha Moon & radix Moon axis [Dhanau-Mithuna] - this is a very effective, supportive cross-match to both Moons

  • partner-2 navamsha nodes match partner-1 navamsha-lagna axis [Karka-Makara] - interpersonal support

Results of the cornerstone test from Light on Relationships, show that this relationship has a good-to-excellent compatibility prognosis.

Very little Jyotisha research has been devoted to homosexual partnerships, which represent at least 10% (probably more) of marital unions in North America.  Sexuality in general has received less attention in Jyotisha. Therefore I note a few preliminary observations in the compatibility list.

Aries Lagna /Virgo Lagna

6/8  angle, unfavorable.  Breeds secrecy & animosity, conflict between bodily tastes and instinctive behaviors.

Gemini Moon /Gemini  Moon

1/1 angle is exceptionally auspicious.  Whatever happens, these two souls will feel the same about life.  There is deep emotional affinity. Gemini is a sexual communication sign, so emotional communication through sexual bonding is emphasized in marriage where partners share Mithuna Chandra.

An egalitarian male-male union may have unique psychic requirements for emotional caretaking between the spouses.  Gemini is the natural sign of house-3 representing siblings.  There may be special advantages to having the nurturing Moons merge in this rashi of brotherly affection.

Libra Sun /Aries Sun

7/7 angle is exceptionally auspicious.  Opposites attract, and opposed Suns keep the mysterious attraction going throughout the duration of the relationship.  The two public lives are absolutely different, which means no need to compete - each person has a guaranteed independent social and professional territory.

It may be the case that in a male-male union, solar compatibility between the partners is more important than in a female-male union.  Typically in male-female partnership we look for an ideal match of male Sun with female Moon.  A female partner has the option to not develop a public identity, but rather to use her husband's public identity as her own.  By contrast in a male-male union, each male must have his own public, social territory - and they must match.

Scorpio Venus /Aries  Venus

6/8 angle unfavorable. Breeds secrecy and animosity in the aesthetic and sensual expression of love.  However the situation is definitely improved by the fact that Partner-1's  Venus occupies Partner-2's lagna, and that Mars rules both Venus positions.  This is especially auspicious in a male-male partnership, where athletic, competitive, sportsmanship energy is so natural.

Prognosis:

Same-rashi-Moon downside is that both parties will undergo the emotionally stressful sade-sathi simultaneously.

As always, the core suffering of anyone's sade-saati comes from the relationship to the mother. As gay male parents, this couple can expect to also get the stress of the fishbowl experience as society criticizes their parenting.  Because there is no biological mother in their family, each male partner will need to call forth the mother-within.  That process will be most emotionally demanding.  However as with all conscious work in the cauldron of Sade-Sati, calling forth the mother-within could be enormously strengthening and productive, stabilizing their family for the next 29 years.

In fact, Sade-Saati for partner-2 contained a series of ideological and emotional confrontations with a judgmental, convention-bound mother (see partner-2 Moon in 10th house of public prestige, in the potentially two-faced or hypocritical sign of Mithuna.).

Partner-1 developed his gentler caretaking traits while consciously forgiving his aging, dependent mother for her many weaknesses.

Both partners and their union were strengthened.

Kuja dosha is another consideration.  Partner-2 has it in both rashi and navamsha; partner-1 does not.

Luckily partner-2's lagnesha (Budha) occupies his 7th house - which makes the native invest a great deal of his identity into his marriage.  Budha in yuvati bhava for partner-2 very much reduces the restless instability of kuja dosha.

Partner-1's yuvati bhava is in poor condition, occupied by the fallen Ravi and L3-6 Budha while lord Shukra occupies the marriage-killing 8th house. This arrangement tends to attract a dominating or materialistic spouse and makes marriage into a servitude.

However, the same-Moon affinity compensates well for most of these weaknesses, creating a deep bond of friendship which should sustain this family into the future.

May all beings venerate life as a state of deep spiritual intimacy.
