~~  Cologne Digital Sanskrit Dictionary

  • The English adjectives “better” and “best” are rooted in Indo-European bat, which is related to Sanskrit bhadra.

"Aja Ekapat desires, "May I gain radiance and the splendor of spiritual knowledge." One who makes the appropriate offering to Aja Ekapat, to Purva Bhadra, gains radiance and the splendor of spiritual knowledge.

Purva Bhadra has a great spiritual potential like Brihaspati ruled Pushya. It can give even more insight, perception and spiritual fire – that of the soul. It awakens us to our higher spiritual potential and power in life."

~~ David Frawley, Fruits of Worshipping Each Nakshatra

Purvabhadrapada, for females:

"... usually born in a rich family, or she marries wealth. She likes to be identified with cultural activities and is extremely influential in the community in which she moves.

She likes reading, and is a good judge of character."

~~ Shil-Ponde. (1939). Hindu Astrology Joytisha-Shastra. p 91.

Purvabhadrapada, for males:

"... high-strung & nervous in temperament. They are not very strong constitutionally. They are rather grave and serious in demeanor and are more interested in the discussion of serious topics than in trivial matters.

They belong to the Mental Group and are by no means orthodox, preferring to arrive at their beliefs through a process of logical reasoning."

~~ Shil-Ponde. (1939). Hindu Astrology Joytisha-Shastra. p 88.
