Chandra in Mula Nakshatra Sample Nativities       I have in my files a dramatic example, a client I have known for 30 years. This man has taken valiant risk after valiant risk, with devastating material consequences. Yet he is still convinced that he has the power to overcome most obstacles.  He does not see the self-destructive reasoning which leads him to expect superhuman results from a frail human mind and body.  Watch for domain-4 (home, family, property, cultural security) expressions of: Mula L-11 Chandra = setting goals, joining communities, earning income Mula L-4/L-7 Guru =  home, education, parenting,  Purvashadha L-5/L-6 Shani = involved by rashi, not in Mula nakshatra  tension of local culture/home-vs-national culture/government engaging 5 graha positioned along the 4-10 axis in Mithuna-Dhanau Father Knows Best In teenage years (L-9 Shukra/L-5 Shani period), the native joined a conservative religious group (Shani Dhanau) which opposed public education (Shani in domain-4 with Mula graha). He left the "government brain-washing school system".  Uccha Shani in navamsha/5 in rashi of Shukra makes this a powerful period of life. From his own con-fident teenage Mula assessment of the local economy, although he had never personally held a full-time job (Mula!) the native determined that could earn very well in the the manufacturing economy, without "wasting time" earning educational credentials. His Mula intuition & his religious teachers (Dhanau) supported his claims. His main religious advisor was expecting the end of civilization to occur very soon (based on compelling intuitive reasoning) so developing a "career" would hardly matter. (Doomsday thinking is a trait of Shani/Dhanau). In Shukra/lagnesha L-10 Budha period, this teenager married (Budha = L-1 navamsha) and produced several children. He also earned a quite good salary in a job that required no formal education.  Ketu As lord of Mula, Ketu has special potency in this radix.  Ketu's rashi lord occupies Dhanau along with Gajakesari Yoga in (Moon + Guru)  The graha outside the Mithuna-Dhanau axis are Kuja-Ketu-Rahu-Budha.  Ketu's lord Shani; Rahu's lord Surya; and Budha's lord Chandra do all reside in the Mithuna-Dhanau axis.  The entire nativity - except swakshetra Kuja - is influenced by the Mula Moon.  Since he trusted only his own counsel and he knew nothing about the global economy, he was blindsided in Shukra/Ketu when the manufacturing bubble burst as his industry moved off-shore and he became suddenly, radically unemployed.  Ketu/5 = one cannot support one's children, or one's creative intelligence dissolves into the ether ... With nary a qualm about moral conflict between his previous government-hating religious dogma and his present-time government support payments, the native arranged government subsidy support for all of his children. They have remained in the government subsidy system for nearly a quarter of a century.  Just as the children have become too old for gov't support payments, each of them started having their own unsupportable children. They are unsupportable because their parents have inadequate education. All of the native's children, under the native's patriarchal leadership, have quit school in their pre-teen years.  Mula Moon with Mula Guru = "Gajakesari Yoga" in domain-4. This yoga in Mula expands the family quickly but with exaggerated expectations of the native ability to support one's dependents. Ketu in domain-5 "seals the deal" in this pattern, with a firm and steady patriarch giving his children wrong financial advice, bad educational direction, and encouraging them to take unsupportable risks with their own children.  It is important to note that this native does not suffer from guilt, and (apart from some physical pain caused by "accidents") is largely enjoying himself in this lifetime.  The nativity is not without merit, and in fact this man is intelligent, religious, and reflective. However he makes impulsive decisions and takes counsel only with the divine and his intuitive Self. Mula-Mind in Surya Mahadasha Look for: interaction of Shani-Guru-Chandra with Surya-Shukra along the 4-10 radix axis, and engaging the navamsha lagna During L-12 Surya mahadasha - where Surya receives drishti from Gajakesari Yoga in Mula  and Surya + combust Shukra = unfettered sensual indulgence- the native developed a major drug addiction (12).  The drug delusions helped to close the gap between the image of himself as a successful & respected parent, versus the underemployed, undereducated and dark future reality that closed in on him due to an already catastrophic series of Mula-driven life decisions. Mula reasoning with the illegal drugs was of course classic addiction-think:  the native's inner Mula counsel signaled that selling drugs was an excellent source of tax-free income (beat the system) and that he could control his own drug intake (god-like powers). His addictions, infidelity, and poverty (from spending his drug-selling income on more party drugs for himself and his friends while his children were locked in a "protected" back room) had catastrophic results on a  predictable trajectory.  Having lost his home, car, marriage, and future through arrogant over-estimation of his powers, the native negotiated with the State to keep his children (Chandra/Guru/Mula/4). Ignoring all the self-destructive choices which lead to this terrible crisis, the native counts his successful recovery from the brink of disaster this as a major proof of his power to beat the system again.  The native's extraordinary promiscuity (combust Shukra in rashi of Budha) was itself an exercise in daunting risk, particularly when it produced more unsupportable children through more child-mothers. However this native is deeply committed to his home & parenting (Chandra/Guru/Shani/4). He wants his children and grandchildren to stay with him (Chandra/4).  Chandra Mahadasha - The Pinnacle of Mula One day in Chandra/lagnesha Budha period his thirty-sixth year (See Shil Ponde Mula pada readings above for special truth of age 35-36-for Mula) this Mula Mind said:  it is perfectly OK to go to sleep while my toddler is wandering around the house unsupervised, because one will immediately intuitively awaken if there is any emergency.  The toddler set fire to the house while Mula was in a profound sleep and both were burned within an inch of their life. Mula does not see his decision to enter a sleep state during his child-watch duty as taking an unreasonable risk. He only sees the miracle of him and his child being rescued from the Brink of Death.  Budha as lagnesha rules the body, and Chandra rules Budha. Given the severity of the skin damage, physicians once predicted hideous scarring for him. But - true to Mula - by the end of Chandra mahadasha, the scars are hardly even noticeable. After numerous surgeries, he has recovered 90% function from once hideously burned hands (Budha = hands). Mula-Mind vs. Medical Advice (bad for the body!) As Chandra/Budha period continued, the native attended a family picnic on the banks of a snow-melt river. Despite doctors' burn-recovery orders to avoid stretching his skin through sudden movements, Mula-Mind chose to swim in the cold mountain river. Since he could not move his limbs very well, a current pulled his weak body under the surface of the water and he very nearly drowned.   The native often recounts his rescue from the brink of death, but he does not reckon that he might have created the catastrophe through his own decision!  Mula Education - Finally As noted above, Kuja is the *only graha* in the nativity which does not come under the direct influence of Mula. Yet all of the  In the rather inauspicious but powerful swakshetra L-8/L-3 (transformation) Kuja/Kuja period, the native made a sudden decision to go to college -- in middle age. Throughout the Kuja mahadasha,  accepted large student loans (which is a common practice in USA) in order to obtain household expense monies.   During college, if not in class, he watched TV & talked (L-3) to friends & family, waiting until after midnight to study. Upon doing poorly in a class, his Mula mind would blame the professor, the textbook, the classroom lighting, or other factors. It would never occur to the Mula Mind that his study proficiency might be affected by valuable hours squandered in repetitive (L-3) and destructive (L-8) entertainments.  Despite adequate intelligence, his marks were so low during Kuja/L-6 Shani (Shani oppresses domain-4 education and creates loss of agreement with advisers) that he risked complete failure. However in Kuja/[swamsha] Budha he "pulled it out of the fire"  with a final burst of effort and and Kuja/L-9 Shukra period he received a graduate degree. Mula Chandra as lord of Budha gives this native advanced & chronic condition of Procrastination. In Rahu mahadasha the native faces a level of debt far too high to pay down using his middling salary. The salary is of course much better than his previous poverty, but Rahu in domain-12 brings loss. Sometimes, staggering loss.  This native will no doubt handle the debt in some clever "rescued from the brink of death" fashion, as is his wont. However in terms of Mula character, it is amusing to note that it does not occur to the Mula mind that he made the choice to accept these large government loans rather than search for scholarships or accept part-time work to extend his time in college. His current loan-payment strategy is to ignore the payments, and presume that his debt will be erased in some magical fashion, in the same way that he was pulled from the river.  And, probably - he is right!
