Richard Nixon is the only American to have been elected twice to the Vice Presidency and twice to the Presidency.
He may qualify as the most despised American president ever.
In later years his reputation was somewhat rehabilitated, and his international statesmanship praised. Yet an entire generation grew up thinking 'Tricky Dick" was the very symbol of crude, immoral authoritarianism. (Nearly 35 years after his impeachment, Nixon masks are still popular in "creepy" Halloween costumes.)
Like most world leaders, Nixon's planets are led by an exceptionally dignified Shani.

Yet, stepping back from personal taste, we can see that in terms of political success, Nixon has one excellent planet (Shani) and one miserable planet (Budha & his tenant Ketu) which each enact their destiny in the Vimshottari dasha.

Nixon was probably raised in a somewhat volatile home environment, since the period most influential in building his character is the 18-year Rahu mahadasha.
Rahu is unfavorably placed in the tumultuous & destructive 8th house. However, because Rahu occupies a navamsha of Kuja, Rahu's period will give the results of Kuja.
Kuja is yogakaraka L-4/L-9 for Simha lagna
Kuja = lord of both navamsha and dashamsha
Kuja gives young Nixon good parental influences, including basic and advanced formal education.
Rahu's Lord Guru gives high intelligence.

Guru occupies a navamsha of Budha; therefore Guru gives the effects of Budha in Guru's period. Budha continues the high good fortune of Nixon's bhagya 5th-house grahas.
Guru/Guru - 1937 - graduates from Duke U. law school . Tries to get work with prestige NYC law firms but rejected as being "shifty". Goes back to small-town California law office.
Guru/Shani = Shani gives is a "marriage of necessity". Rahu-Ketu transit into the radix axis. Nixon marries a schoolteacher.
Guru/Surya - Elected to US House of Representatives from California, age 33. Surya is lagnesha (ego) and dominates L-5/L-8 Guru. 5th house is politics. This is a strong & successful life-period, an excellent launch into politics from a career point of view. Unfortunately this was also his first "dirty tricks" election, attributable to Guru's 8th-house lordship where Rahu is Guru's unruly tenant. Surya in swakshetra in 5th dashamsha - very strong.
Guru/Rahu - Having built a political career as an aggressive anti-Communist, Nixon helps destroy many reputations in public life. He is an accuser in several notable trials. Elected to US Senate from California, in an ugly anti-Communist campaign of smear tactics & innuendo - which of course succeeded, because outcaste-Rahu amplifies Guru, the swakshetra 5th-lord for politics. Shani Mahadasha
age 38-57
Shani occupies a navamsha of Shani, giving a very strong thrust into public leadership.
Shani/Shani - age 39, elected USA Vice-President under Dwight Eisenhower
Shani/Shukra - whilst Rahu/Ketu transited Leo/Aquarius making trouble in the natal axis of his dashamsha whilst Ketu hovered around Shukra, Nixon narrowly lost the presidential election to his his good friend JF Kennedy. This is probably the effect of Ketu creating uncertainty or lack of vitality around L-10 Shukra - who is otherwise a good career planet.
Shani/Chandra - runs for governor of California - lost. Chandra is L-12 for losses. However, in politics, lost elections are not wasted time. The visibility candidate gains will always help in the next election.
Shani/Guru - Age 55, elected USA president Nov-1968. Note the extremely powerful qualities of Swakshetra Shani and swakshetra Guru in dashamsha, which support their 5/9 angle and hospitable sign & house placements in radix. Guru in particular is much amplified by Rahu, his radix tenant and dashamsha partner.

Nixon had inherited the extremely unpopular Vietnam war. His lawless & secretive (L-8) style manifested in the 1970 unauthorized bombing of Cambodia under Shani/Guru.
Budha Mahadasha
age 57-74
Budha occupies a navamsha of Budha; therefore Budha's power as an L-2 "killer" planet as well as L-11 gainful is much strengthened in Budha's period. Budha continues the high good fortune of Nixon's bhagya 5th-house grahas, including great material wealth.
However note the classic "bad" period in Budha's mahadasha which occurs during the bhukti of a planet residing 3rd-from-Budha!
Like Guru, who gave Nixon the first burst of early success, Budha is a nodal ruler, over Ketu.
As lord of no-boundaries Ketu in the 2nd house of speech, Budha feels no compunction to speak truthfully... rather, dominated by Rahu's lord Guru, the huge-ego lagnesha Surya, and highly-educated yogakaraka Kuja, Nixon prefers EXPEDIENT speech.
Up until now, the protection of Guru, Kuja, and Surya allow him to get away with it. Nobody knew about the bombings or about a lot of other illegal activity, including the Watergate break-in. However, Ketu will penetrate Nixon's own previously sturdy boundaries...
Budha/Budha, where Budha = L-11 of gains, supported by the robust company of Guru/Kuja/Surya. With Rahu-Ketu transiting Dhanus/Mithuna - Rahu conjuncting lagnesha Ravi - Nixon was re-elected in a landslide victory, Nov-1972.
Budha/Budha - Secretly, June-1972 Watergate break-in
Budha/Ketu - Multiple levels of scandal unfold for Nixon, including lies, theft, rampant abuse of power, and the apparent workings of a paranoid mind. Oct-1973 in a move which destroys his only-recently-huge public support, Nixon fires the investigators who are charged with prosecuting him for crimes.
Budha/Shukra - Apr-1974 - tapes released which confirm Nixon's complicity in crimes; the public is shocked at his crude, vulgar language (Ketu/2). Resigned, Aug-1974
Ketu, greatly empowered in Budha mahadasha, transits directly to Shukra in dashamsha, whilst He scrapes into Nixon's 10th radix, causing great public uncertainty about Nixon's morality.
But Shukra is still the 10th lord; Nixon retains his dignity; retreating to his secluded estate. Vice-President Ford takes command & issues a pardon, so Nixon is not indicted & never goes to prison...Only after Nixon's death were most of the confirming details released about his criminal activities - and many suspect his worst crime still lies buried.
When any graha occupies 3rd-from Budha, the native's experience during the period of Budha major/3rd-from-Budha minor will be exceptionally difficult in terms of communications and mental health.
The native will feel mentally depressed, attacked, & unable to express his true intentions. He must retreat to silent sanctuary, unable to communicate successfully with others.
The specific nature of the alienating, mentally obtuse inability to communicate one's thoughts successfully usually results in rejection and depression all around.
(Exception occurs when Budha & the graha in 3rd from Budha enjoy parivartana yoga. Then, good mental results are expected.)
Remainder of Budha mahadasha spent writing many books. Budha is a strong earner through words, as L-2/L-11.
As Nixon's better bhukti's rolled by - Kuja/Rahu/Guru/Shani - he returned to international diplomacy in a non-elected capacity. He was able to significantly distinguish himself as an "elder statesman" and recover his public service reputation somewhat, before he died.
Yet while he carried high dignity in international circles, he remained reviled at home.
