Richard Nixon is the only American to have been elected twice to the Vice Presidency and twice to the Presidency. He may also qualify as the most despised American president of all time.
In later years, his reputation was somewhat rehabilitated, and his international statesmanship praised. Yet an entire generation grew up thinking 'Tricky Dick" was the very symbol of crude, immoral authoritarianism. (Nearly 35 years after his impeachment, Nixon masks are still popular in "creepy" Halloween costumes.)
Dignified Shani in 10:
Marriage Nixon's marriage was considered to be stable, supportive, and a major pillar of his public-service career. The marital troubles inherent in any Simha lagna nativity are well-known. The spouse is either considerably older than oneself, or emotionally dry and cold, or both. The spouse tends to consider marriage as a duty not a pleasure. Yet the publicly perceived results may be good in areas like social reputation and acquisition of responsible leadership positions. However the best possible results for Simha lagna will occur when Shukra and Shani are both well disposed.
Nixon's very supportive Shukra-Shani parivartamsha yoga gives the native artistic talent, a genius for international diplomacy, and also a dignified & supportive wife who shares the native's vision, ideals, & disciplined commitment to success. World leaders tend to share a common pattern of being placed in an extremely hardworking, ambitious and dedicated marriage partnership. The partners together aim for top position in a fixed hierarchy. The L-10 Shukra + L-7 Shani parivartamsha yoga also brings in loyal peer partners in business and politics; and greatly strengthens career powers for a legal mentality, such attorneys and legislators. Of course, not all partners are loyal and not all leadership positions are respected, because the parivartamsha yoga also invokes Shani's L-6 status for animosity, especially jealousy, in partners. It is easily apparent however that Nixon's Shani - which gives determination and resolve - also, unfortunately, contains Nixon's signature "dirty tricks" quality.
Nixon's chart is especially interesting to view in terms of impeachment. Your astrologer was 18 years old when Nixon was impeached, and no greater happiness amongst the hippie class could have been known than the twin blessings of the end of the dastardly Vietnam War and the impeachment of the devious liar Richard Nixon. Yet, stepping back from personal taste, we can see that in terms of political success, Nixon has one excellent planet (Shani) and one miserable planet (Budha & his tenant Ketu) which each enact their destiny in the Vimshottari dasha. Vimshottari Dasha Narrative: Rahu mahadasha (Rahu amplifies His lord = L-5/L-8 Brihaspati)
Nixon was probably raised in a somewhat volatile home environment, since the period most influential in building his character is the 18-year Rahu mahadasha. Rahu is unfavorably placed in the tumultuous & destructive 8th house. However, because Rahu occupies a navamsha of Kuja, Rahu's period will give the results of Kuja.
Rahu's Lord Guru gives high intelligence.
And, for good or evil, the entire 5th house is dominated by lagnesha Surya who gives a tremendous Ego. L-5/L-8 Guru Mahadasha
Guru occupies a navamsha of Budha; therefore Guru gives the effects of Budha in Guru's period. Budha continues the high good fortune of Nixon's bhagya 5th-house grahas.
L-6/L-7 Shani Mahadasha
Shani occupies a navamsha of Shani, giving a very strong thrust into public leadership.
Note on Nixon's loss of the Calif gubernatorial election in 1962: Nixon always said that this election left his with an exceptionally bitter taste. Chandra is the L-12 in domain-6. There is deep, unresolved resentment toward the mother and those who are supposed to care for him and protect him, in Nixon's life. This deep anger manifests during Chandra periods - and is at its peak in the Shani/Chandra period since Shani is lord of Chandra. L-12 in domain-6 signifies losses through conflict, disease, unlawful actions. The disturbance originates in loss of trust in social agreements. If a malefic, L-12 in 7th-from-swakshetra is a karaka for a conflicted & possibly criminal imagination. Generally, a dusthamsha lord gives good results when it occupies a dusthamsha. L-12 causes loss of personal identity via loss of the dignity associated with the physical appearance, due to circumstances in the house hosting the L-12. When L-12 goes into the house of argumentation, conflict, victims and the underclass, then one loses one's ability to negotiate conflicts. There may follow some desperate actions which are perceived to be "options of last resort" in order to "solve the problem" of the impending loss of personal identity, caused (it is perceived) by enemies, by disease, or by debt. Thus the opportunity for unintended criminal consequences of rather confused (12) actions, those actions being ultimately manipulated by the spirits on the astral plane (mainly ancestor spirits) who speak in the dream voice. If L-12 is an aggressive graha, the result could be violent. But generally the result is somewhat diffused. E.g., for Richard Nixon, that graha is Chandra - Nixon had lifelong emotional problems with suspiciousness and feeling victimized, which got the better of him during the Watergate break-in.
L-11/L-2 Budha Mahadasha
Budha occupies a navamsha of Budha; therefore Budha's power as an L-2 "killer" planet as well as L-11 gainfulness are much strengthened in Budha's period. Budha continues the high good fortune of Nixon's bhagya 5th-house grahas, including great material wealth. However note the classic "bad" period in Budha's mahadasha which occurs during the bhukti of a planet residing 3rd-from-Budha! Like Guru, who gave Nixon the first burst of early success, Budha is a nodal ruler, over Ketu. As lord of no-boundaries Ketu in the 2nd house of speech, Budha feels no compunction to speak truthfully... rather, dominated by Rahu's lord Guru, the huge-ego lagnesha Surya, and highly-educated yogakaraka Kuja, Nixon prefers EXPEDIENT speech. Up until now, the protection of Guru, Kuja, and Surya allow him to get away with it. Nobody knew about the bombings or about a lot of other illegal activity, including the Watergate break-in. However, Ketu will penetrate Nixon's own previously sturdy boundaries...
When any graha occupies 3rd-from Budha, the native's experience during the period of Budha major/3rd-from-Budha minor will be exceptionally difficult in terms of communications and mental health. < class="style12"> The native will feel mentally depressed, attacked, & unable to express his true intentions. He must retreat to silent sanctuary, unable to communicate successfully with others. The specific nature of the alienating, mentally obtuse inability to communicate one's thoughts successfully usually results in rejection and depression all around. (Exception occurs when Budha & the graha in 3rd from Budha enjoy parivartana yoga. Then, good mental results are expected.) Remainder of Budha mahadasha spent writing many books. Budha is a strong earner through words, as L-2/L-11. As Nixon's better bhukti's rolled by - Kuja/Rahu/Guru/Shani - he returned to international diplomacy in a non-elected capacity. He was able to significantly distinguish himself as an "elder statesman" and recover his public service reputation somewhat, before he died.
