Napoleon Bonaparte

1769-1821

  • Emperor of the French

  • King of Italy

  • Mediator of the Swiss Confederation

  • Protector of the Confederation of the Rhine

Died in captivity on the remote South Atlantic island of St. Helena, 5 May 1821 (aged 51)

  • the placement of the atmakaraka is D-1 and D-9 is problematic.

  • Napoleon was notoriously short-statured and this should coordinate with a Shani drishti upon lagna or Chandra.

Napoleon Bonaparte - Jyotisha D-1 Radix and D-9 Navamsha Charts

this nativity should be considered tentative.

  • The conventional birth time of 1100 or 1130 is used not from "memory" of an observer of the birth but rather from the anecdote that Napoleon's mother went into labor in Corsica when she was sitting in church for the purpose of hearing Holy Mass, which ritual was presumably being offered at the hour approaching noon.

Indeed, the time and even the date of Napoleon's birth are questioned. One scholar has asserted that 15-Aug-1769 is actually the birth date of Napoleon's younger brother and that the Emperor of France  himself was actually born on 07-Jan-1968 at an unknown time. Napoleon's parentage is also questioned.

Distinctive Features of the Nativity

Uttarashadha Chandra

Ketu in bhava 11 (economics)

= Rahu in bhava 5 (politics; royalty; creative performance)

  • Ambivalence (Ketu) toward economic gains and social networking
  • Desire (Rahu) to be recognized as a politically intelligent performance genius

Raja Yoga

Karakamsha Bhava-10, karmasthana = governance, social leadership
Arudha of Karma Bhava Bhava-12, distant lands and clandestine affairs

Although Monsieur Bonaparte was capable of getting support from the French ruling elite, for awhile, overall the public was disenchanted. It does not help that Shani occupies 12!

Parivartamsha Yoga  L-12 Chandra + L-6+L-7 Shani

Great distinction in matters of distant lands (12)

Marital difficulties but amorous adventures worldwide to compensate

eventually severe Troubles with imprisonment and disease

  •

= "Karmaa Pada"

public imagery or associations = Mesha bhava-7 = alliances

  • It appears that the historians admire Napoleon much more than the people of Napoleon's own day. 10th-from-L-10 Shukra = Karma Pada = Meena.

  • The public illusion - Arudha = Randhra bhava bhava-8 is associated with magical and tantrik, tantric transformations. Yet to the common people, 8 is a fearful house of sudden upheavals, the threat of death, and unwanted identity change.

  • Lord of Karma bhava, Guru, is weak in enemy Shukra's rashi and also weak in Budha's natural house of administration and publications. Napoleon spent most of his time away from France, waging tremendous battles in order to create an Empire. After a short time, the Empire failed - ruining the livelihoods of many citizens. His administrative organization was overconfident of dramatic success and widely criticized domestically for being ineffective and weak.

  • Guru, lord of Karma Pada, casts drishti upon L-10 Shukra, which is a strengthening factor - yet Shukra + Ketu suggests a slightly beautiful "blank screen" upon which the public is free to project its fantasy. An aura of unreality would have surrounded the self-appointed Emperor, at least in his own day.

Karma Pada is powerful in this nativity. Drishti double-L-10, Shukra

  • Shukra + Ketu, shape-shifting of public leadership identity, available to receive the projection of the public's great-leader glamour fantasies

  • Rahu drishti to L-10 Shukra

  • L-5+L-8 Guru drishti to L-10 Shukra

  • Lord of karma pada (arudha of karma bhava) = Guru = casts drishti upon karma pada, increases the "expansion" associations of the illusory karma pada

  • Also a Mangala (fighting) drishti to karma pada, public illusion = combat, competition

  • Guru, lord of karma pada-illusion, occupies 10th-from-Chandra = Napoleon caught in the public illusion of his own glory

Graha in navamsha lagna suggest an extremely strong personality, a great warrior, a superior military general, an exceptionally successful competitor.

The native is nearly always at war. Mangala in lagna with swakshetra Surya gives a powerful Kuja Dosha that is slightly easier when the native is away from home, but overall the marriage bond is unsustainable. Yet, Lord of the 10th navamsha Shani = L-6 in the radix, suggesting chronic institutional conflict in the homeland and his own engagement in constant struggle with his own enemies.

This man certainly had foreign enemies.

Most of his enemies were foreigners, due to L-12 Chandra in 6! Countrymen associates (from Corsica) were few in number. Shani + Chandra are both enormously strengthened in parivartamsha, and (via parivartamsha) Shani/6 normally gives the person enough stamina to OUTLAST one's enemies. For a better part of his life, Napoleon Bonaparte did outlast his enemies. Yet he had private sickness (L-12 Chandra in 6) which ultimately killed him when he was in exile (12). L-12 Chandra= a trouble-maker despite his parivartamsha strength acquired from exchange of rashi as well as mutual aspect with Shani. Chandra overworks the mother and gives an emotional proclivity to disregard the marriage vow. Women in general are troublesome.

Rahu/Rahu = French Revolution 1789

Rahu in 5 = Innumerable changes of political position, loyalty, and principle

Here is just a "news report" summary of the number and extraordinary volatility of Napoleon's Rahu-driven political turnabouts during his Rahu/Rahu period, which coincided with the onset of the French Revolution in 1789.

  • "He spent the early years of the Revolution in Corsica, fighting in a complex three-way struggle between royalists, revolutionaries, and Corsican nationalists. He supported the revolutionary Jacobin faction, gained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and command over a battalion of volunteers. After he had exceeded his leave of absence and led a riot against a French army in Corsica, he was somehow able to convince military authorities in Paris to promote him to captain in July 1792. He returned to Corsica once again and came into conflict with Paoli, who had decided to split with France and sabotage a French assault on the Sardinian island of La Magdalena, where Bonaparte was one of the expedition leaders. Bonaparte and his family had to flee to the French mainland in June 1793 because of the split with Paoli. " [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napoleon_Bonaparte]

Guru/Budha period

In 1811, during his Guru-Budha period, despite the fact that he loved his first wife Josephine, Napoleon was forced to remarry in order to have children (Guru). Napoleon's love for Josephine is well documented in his existing love-letters to her. Yet Josephine was unable to conceive an heir for him - a breakdown-of-contract fact which must have caused feelings of severe emotional distress and disappointment.

  • The records indicate that Napoleon had no personal attraction to his second wife and he publicly stated that he had been forced to "marry a womb". Josephine granted the divorce without resistance (Shukra + Ketu).

  • Budha = L-6 from Chandra (emotional distress and due to Ketu there, also emotional disorientation) Budha = L-2 for second marriage. And Budha = L-6 navamsha. Budha periods are therefore very stressful times in the world of emotional relationships for the Emperor Napoleon!

  • Due to Shukra + Ketu in Budha's house Mithuna 6th-from-Makara-Chandra, during periods of Budha, Napoleon would have experienced considerable emotional distress from marriage, women, and legal arguments (Budha). Through his incarnation, wives, harmonious partnerships, and the role of women in achieving his goals (Shukra in 11) were all rather emotionally distressing and irregular experiences for him - then periods of Budha would make this background theme quite acute.
