Her social entertaining skills were essential to his rise in career and despite their marital troubles she supported him publically until the end.

• Typically Lincoln worked away from home as a horseback "circuit rider" and Mary was left to manage the children, which she did with a notable lack of discipline.

  Robert the surviving son rose to high office, wealth etc.

  His wife Mary Todd is considered to have had mental-emotional illness and Lincoln himself suffered melancholy which would modernly be called clinical depression.

• Mary Todd Lincoln is described as an exceptionally beautiful and vivacious woman from a relatively wealthy family (uchcha Shukra). Observers of the era noted her higher social status compared to Mr. Lincoln's humble pioneer background.

• Her entertaining skills (Shukra) are said to have been enormously valuable in advancing the career (10) of her socially awkward but politically ambitious husband.

• Mrs. Lincoln is believed to have suffered "borderline personality disorder" which results in delightful socializing to outsiders and private violence to those inside the family, with a marked tendency to divide the family into flawless "good children" versus damned "bad children". As the disorder progresses, typically the husband joins the damned.

• Kuja + Rahu drishti to bhava-4 may signify verbal violence in the home. Mr. Lincoln's father was said to have been verbally violent so young Abe grew up familiar with those conditions.

Death

Mr. Lincoln was shot (Mangala) at a social event (Thula) in a sudden catastrophic moment that brought a belligerent civil-warring nation finally in their grief to a re-union.

Lincoln's father lived a harsh life carving out subsistence farms in the dense wilderness of the Indiana Territories, and he was a man of his generation, harsh and realistic in all ways.

• Shani drishti to Makara lagna and Makara Chandra would indicate young Abraham to be a very hard worker, the very icon of pioneer persistence, with every quality of Shani (roughness, thinness, darkness, perseverance, lawfulness, and sobriety) becoming exceptionally fierce and pronounced.

• Mr. Lincoln was said to have been deeply attached to his mother, who died when he was a young boy.

• However he also formed a successful attachment to his father's second wife. This would have been possible because stepmother = 8th -from-Chandra = bhava-3 who was supportive of young Lincoln's education and adult ambitions and served as a negotiator-barrier against Lincoln's difficult father. Her support helped him to advance from wilderness farmhand to lawyer to President of USA. Lincoln remained devoted to her.
