Calvin Coolidge Radix Navamsha - Barbara Pijan Lama Jyotisha

Calvin Coolidge D-10 Dashamsha

Distinctive features of the Nativity:

  • Rahu in Domain-10 = dramatic rise to leadership roles, under taboo-breaking, illicit, or culturally irregular (Rahu) circumstances. (Coolidge was a Washington outsider)

    • Often a glass-ceiling crasher, able to break gender-race-age barriers in conservative professional roles.

      • May challenge conventional standards in the style of ascendancy to the high ranking position.

    • Rahu swabhukti is especially intense, exposing the native's life to the public eye.

    • Diverse responsibilities, executive empowerment involving contact with outsider, foreign elements, world governments.

    • Best results in Vrishabha (uchcha, wealth) and Kumbha (own sign, widely distributed networks) but all rashi will yield publicity and leadership power. Rahu gives best results in 3, 6, 10 and 11.

  • Chandra-Mangala yoga occurs in nearly every varga; in radix 11.

    •  No matter Mr. Coolidge's external expression of values, on the inside this fellow was emotionally driven by instinct for turning a profit.

  • Mrigashira Chandra  is a "nosy" fellow, quietly and in a friendly way but energetically nosing his way into everyone's travel and business.

    • The native knows a great many people and develops a base of important information about them.

    • What a splendid Moon to aid a political career: + Mangala + Shukra + Surya, combined in 11 the house of networks!

  • Sarala Yoga (Viparita Raja Yoga) = L-8 in domain-12 = surprising benefits from lawsuits, illnesses, pollution, or impoverishment (6) which occurs as the result of  loss of identity, imprisonment, hospitalization, withdrawal into imaginative worlds, relationship to spirit guides, private bedroom relationships, long sojourn in distant lands (12)

  • Mangala-ruled Mrigashira Chandra is competitive and ambitious. Its method is 'sniffing out' the conversations, relationships, and values of the herd. The Mrigashira Chandra native has excellent instincts for finding the path of domination and despite its preference for family life is often called into some variety of service to society. It is also associated with asthma - from which Coolidge suffered lifelong.

This is not to say that he personally earned unusual quantities of wealth - in fact, the lord of Chandra-Mangala yoga is Budha who occupies domain-12, which dissolves most of Coolidge's personal wealth (not all, but most of it).

Coolidge was not an ostentatiously rich man. However, his beliefs (L-9 Mangala) about marketplace relationships (L-11 Budha) influenced an entire nation for 6 years. The historical consequences of one man's strong convictions are worth noting.

    • When L-9 occupies domain-11, the expression of belief shifts from religious to scientific or ideological. Domain-11 represents the rules, or the purported rules, which regulate the marketplace of human exchanges of goods and ideas. Coolidge was a passionate believer in marketplace competition, and by complement a strict opponent of any type of government contradiction of the "natural rules" which determine the dominance of the fittest. Thus his leadership suppressed trade unions, and supplied federal enforcement to stop strikes and protests.

    • Chandra + Mangala is exceptionally driven toward personal profit, based on an emotional conviction that "competition" (fair or not) is the key value in life. "Fair" is a value of Shukra. Unless Shukra is also strong, the competition may be as nasty as necessary in order to reveal the natural dominator. Chandra + Mangala always gains significant profit - through fair means or foul.

    • Coolidge presided during the "Roaring Twenties" of USA financial "wildness" - when the law of the jungle seemed to prevail in financial markets (11).

    • Systematically oppressing labor strikes from his earliest days as Massachusetts governor, Coolidge was a great friend to capitalist owners and an enemy of the common worker's struggle for higher wages.

    • Many historians consider Coolidge's laissez-faire economic policies to have plunged the country (and much of the financial world) into a deep monetary depression, soon after the end of his six-year administration.

  •  Magha Nakshatra in radix lagna. Ketu ruled Magha expresses regal entitlement with a tremendous detachment, often expressed as a total lack of effort.

    • Ketu, lord of the rising Nakshatra , occupies domain-4 of land, country, schooling, the early childhood home, and patriotism. Coolidge was perceived as a deeply patriotic man. Indeed, he carried on his 1924 presidential election campaign while grieving the death of his son, so that he might continue to serve his country if his country desired it.

    • Coolidge's family home (4) had neither running water nor electricity. In typical Ketu fashion, Coolidge's parents (4) determined that these utilities, while commonly easy to obtain at the time, were either unnecessary or required too much effort to obtain.

Calvin Coolidge 30 Vimshottari Dasha 1 - Barbara Pijan Lama Jyotisha VIMSHOTTARI DASHA TIMELINE

Guru/Shukra

  • Shukra = L-3 for self-owned business, L-10 for public leadership

  • Shukra in the "earned income" 11th house

As Guru Mahadasha proceeded, Coolidge held a series of local, city, and state official positions.

  • Coolidge's wife, Ms. Grace Anna Goodhue, a schoolteacher, is described as a cheerful and conversational person but not lacking in traditional Vermont austerity. Most observers felt she was the key to his social success. Despite the dour implication of his L-7 = Shani, Coolidge's Shani receives drishti of the talkative Mithuna graha Chandra, Surya, Mangala, and Shukra. Shani occupies the gainful 11th-from-7th, indicating that his wife was indeed a great and steady friend.

Shani/Rahu

  • elected governor of Massachusetts

  • but there is a fixed contract (Shani, 7th-from-Chandra) which leads to a stable and lawful transition to a new public leadership role. Guru = L-7 (10th-from-10th) and L-10 (leadership) from Chandra.Guru = uchcha (strong results) yuti L-2 Budha (death) and L-11 Budha (achieving goals)

Budha Mahadasha -

  • L-2/L-11 age 51-68

  • nativity can be read mainly fro the Chandra lagna after age 50

super-controller Budha = lord of :

  • L-12 Chandra = foreign countries

  • Auspicious Punarvasu Budha at 2 deg of Karkata does the bidding of His superior associate the political uchcha pushya L-5 Guru at 12 deg Karkata

  • During the presidency, Coolidge continued the policies of non-interference in market capitalism (Budha = L-11 and domain-11 is very busy)

  • Budha in 12 = non-comment on most issues, "Silent Cal"

 Budha/Ketu

  • Patently refused to run in the 1928 presidential election, although he had one legal term left and was considered highly electable by his Republican party managers

  • Ketu = withdrawal, refusal to participate

  • Ketu in 4 = wants to go home, to be finished, to reach "the end of things"

 Budha/Shukra

  • wrote and published autobiography, wrote newspaper column

  • Shukra = L-3 writing

  • Shukra = L-10 public persona, fame from lawful leadership (fame from entertainment celebrity or royalty = domain-5)

 Budha/Mangala

  • January 5, 1933 death from heart attack, at home , age 61

  • Mangala = L-4 home, "end of things" . When death is not timed by the classic L-2 or L-7, the L-4 may be the timing agent

  • Ketu, signifying disconnection, suggests that Coolidge may have not asked for help with his heart problems

"And now my friends,

all that is true, all that is noble,

all that is just and pure,

all that is loveable and gracious,

whatever is excellent and admirable -

fill all your thoughts with these things."
