Distinctive features of the Nativity:
 |
Rahu in
bhava-11 =
Rahu in Rishabha
Chandra-Mangala yoga
Mrigashira Chandra is a "nosy" fellow, quietly and in a
friendly way but energetically inquisitive. Helpful for making
friends and networking even with an overall quietistic personality.
Sarala Yoga
(Viparita Raja Yoga) = L-8 in bhava-6 = surprising benefits
from lawsuits, illnesses, pollution, or
impoverishment (6) Mr. Coolidge
benefitted from violently suppressing labor strikes (6) which causes
terrible trouble for others but indeed promoted his career. Shani-6
shows he lacked sympathy for workers.
Mangala-ruled
Mrigashira Chandra
is competitive and ambitious. Its method is 'sniffing out' the
conversations, relationships, and values of the herd. The
Mrigashira Chandra native has excellent instincts for finding the
path of domination and despite its preference for family life is
often called into some variety of service to society. It is also
associated with asthma - from which Coolidge suffered lifelong.
Coolidge was not an ostentatiously rich
man. However, his philosophical beliefs (L-9 uchcha Guru) about
deregulation of marketplace
relationships (L-11 Shukra, uchchamsha in navamsha) influenced an entire nation for 6
years. He held that "winner take all" capitalism was the best
economic policy. Note the uchchamsha Rahu in 11. -
Chandra + Mangala is
exceptionally driven toward personal profit, based on an
emotional conviction that "competition"
(fair or not) is the key value in life. "Fair" is a value of
Shukra. Unless Shukra is also strong, the competition may be
as nasty as necessary in order to reveal the natural
dominator. In Coolidge's nativity, Shukra = moudhya in 12
(weakened) but Mangala is not damaged by combustion. Chandra + Mangala always gains significant profit -
through fair means or foul.
-
Coolidge presided during the
"Roaring Twenties" of USA financial "wildness" - when the law
of the jungle seemed to prevail in financial markets (Rahu-11).
-
Systematically oppressing
labor strikes from his earliest days as Massachusetts
governor, Coolidge was a great friend to capitalist owners and
an enemy of the common worker's struggle for higher wages.
-
Many historians consider
Coolidge's laissez-faire economic policies to have
plunged the country (and much of the financial world) into a
deep monetary depression, soon after the end of his six-year
administration.

VIMSHOTTARI
DASHA TIMELINE
L-5+L-8 Pushya
Guru
Mahadasha- age 16-32 L-7+L-10 from
Mrigashira Chandra
|
After basic schooling, Coolidge
completed a youthful apprenticeship in Law (did not attend too-costly
law school)
Guru/Shukra
-
1898, opens own law practice age 25
-
Shukra = L-3 for self-owned business+ L-10 for public leadership
-
Shukra in the "earned income" 11th
house
As Guru
Mahadasha proceeded, Coolidge held
a series of local, city, and state official positions.
Except for one School Board election
(which he lost because his marriage had not yet produced children), he won
every contest - often running unopposed. Ketu in 4 = schools.
|
|
L-6+L-7 Shani
Mahadasha
-
age 32-51
-
L-8+L-9 from Chandra
|
Shani/Shani -
1905 marriage age
33, Shani = L-7 navamsha
-
gochara Rahu-Ketu in Simha-Kumbha
-
Coolidge's wife, Ms. Grace Anna
Goodhue, a schoolteacher, is described as a cheerful and
conversational person but not lacking in traditional
Vermont
austerity. Most observers felt she was the key to his social
success. Despite the dour implication of his L-7 = Shani,
Coolidge's Shani receives drishti of the talkative Mithuna graha
Chandra, Surya, Mangala, and Shukra. Shani occupies the gainful
11th-from-7th, indicating that his wife was indeed a great and
steady friend.
Shani/Rahu
-
elected governor of Massachusetts
-
elected Vice-President of United States
under
Warren G. Harding
-
Rahu in 10 = high public position,
leadership roles
Shani/Guru
-
Aug 1923, Coolidge = age 51: sudden
death of President 29, Warren Harding.
Guru in 8th-from-Shani (sudden upheaval in political expectations
and agreements) and Guru is
lord of Shani in 5 (recognition, attention - which he
does not like!) = catastrophic change at the last moment
- there were only a few months of the final bhukti of the
Shani
Mahadasha left to go
-
but there is a fixed contract (Shani,
7th-from-Chandra) which leads to a stable and lawful transition to a
new public leadership role. Guru = L-7 (10th-from-10th) and L-10
(leadership) from Chandra.
-
uchchamsha Guru = yuti L-2
Budha (death) and L-11 Budha (achieving goals)
|
|
Budha Mahadasha
-
super-controller Budha = lord of :
-
L-12 Chandra
= foreign countries
-
Yogakaraka L-4+L-9 Mangala (patriotism, philosophical wisdom),
-
L-3+L-10 Shukra
(writing, documents, leadership),
-
L-1 Surya
(recognized identity)
|
Budha/Budha
-
Age 53, sudden death of his son from infection.
[Budha = L-7 from
putra bhava = death of child]
-
Age 54,
despite his grief, Coolidge campaigns for his party and for his own
presidency, winning the 1924 presidential election
-
Auspicious
Punarvasu Budha at 2 deg
of Karkata does the bidding of His superior associate
the political uchcha pushya L-5 Guru at 12 deg Karkata
-
During the presidency, Coolidge
continued the policies of non-interference in market capitalism (Budha
= L-11 and bhava-11 is very busy)
-
Budha in 12 = non-comment on most
issues, "Silent Cal"
Budha/Ketu
-
Patently refused to run in the 1928
presidential election, although he had one legal term left and was
considered highly electable by his Republican party managers
-
Ketu = withdrawal, refusal to
participate
-
Ketu in 4 = wants to go home, to be
finished, to reach "the end of things"
Budha/Shukra
-
wrote and published autobiography,
wrote newspaper column
-
Shukra = L-3 writing
-
Shukra = L-10 public persona,
fame from lawful leadership (fame from entertainment celebrity or
royalty = bhava-5)
Budha/Mangala
-
January 5, 1933 death from heart
attack, at home = age 61
-
Mangala = L-4 home, "end of
things" . When death is not timed by the classic L-2 or L-7,
the L-4 may be the timing agent
-
Ketu, signifying disconnection,
suggests that Coolidge may have not asked for help with his heart
problems
|
"And
now my friends,
all that is true, all that is noble,
all that is just and
pure,
all that is loveable and gracious,
whatever is excellent and admirable -
fill all your thoughts with these things."
