Tony Blair's parents
Both of Blair's parents appear to be remarkable people, from a Jyotisha perspective:
Guru yuti Kuja in house-9 indicates the father. Blair's father Leo was a working lawyer and university law professor, province of dharma bhava.
Guru's lord Shukra is exalted and in kendra, an exceptionally beneficial planet
Guru is however dominated in degree by the highly inauspicious L-3/L-8 Kuja, giving a mix of good and evil in the father.
Leo Blair changed political affiliations and social theories quite radically while Tony was growing up. Starting as a Young Communist, he had flipped to super-conservative High Tory by the time Tony was ten.
In Rahu/Guru period (1963) ,when Leo Blair was preparing to run for Parliament as a conservative, he suffered a massive stroke. The father could not speak for three years - propelling his 10-yer-old son into early responsibility & power, as the family managed chaotic changes at home.
Surya, karaka for politics & father, is exalted and country-loving but in the dusthana 8th house. Tony's father Leo was deeply involved British politics but the father's involvement must be destroyed due to 8th-house transformative effects.
Although not a star student - being more interested in theatre and general long-haired independent rebellion - young Tony nevertheless received a reasonable education in good schools including St. John's College at Oxford. His educational success was due more to his natural intelligence (house-5) than his conformist tendencies, but having Shani as Moon's lord gave him adequate discipline to finish "uni" successfully and enter Law.
Guru mahadasha
Guru is a wonderful planet for Blair, occupying auspicious dharma bhava and ruling two kendras.
Guru in the 3rd pada of Krittika is a lovely planet. Gracious, svelte, generous, and beloved by many. Nearly always in government service, where they enjoy a broad appreciation.
Launching a spectacular career, Blair completed law studies under L-4/L-7 Guru/Guru. Bandhu bhava rules education while house-7 rules the law courts.
In Guru/Shani, where Shani is L-7 in navamsha, while Rahu-Ketu crossed the navamsha lagna in Leo/Aquarius, Blair married fellow law student and beauty Cherie.
Blair met his wife, the amazingly intelligent and accomplished Cherie Booth (who had graduated at the top of her class at the London School of Economics) in Law School. They married on 29-Mar-1980. Note his L-2/L-9 Venus exalted, giving a wife of exceptional talent and earning ability.
In Guru/Budha Blair entered politics, winning his first seat by a substantial majority in 1983 - age 30. Although beginner politics pays poorly in the western world, Blair was blessed with a high-earning lawyer wife. (Exalted L-2/L-9 Venus in house of partnership and law.)
Lagnesha/L-10 Budha stimulates his public service career, his discipline (tenant Shani) and his articulation. Both Guru/Budha and Shani/Budha give major political steps upward.
Shani mahadasha
Shani/Shani, Blair suddenly acquired leadership of the British Labour Party 21-July-1994, after the unexpected death of its leader.
Shani/Budha, Tony Blair, the youngest person elected to PM in 185 years, entered office on 01-May-1997 - one week before his 44th birthday.
Shani/Chandra saw the crisis of the London Bombings by Islamic extremists, which Blair handled decisively. Public confidence was maintained.
Rahu yuti Chandra for him in radix while Rahu rises in Dashamsha has provided him a lifetime of contact with foreigners, and he suffers not a shred of xenophobia. Any Moon or Rahu period is likely to place him in juxtaposition to foreign cultural or religious ideals, immigration issues etc. He is superbly positioned to achieve good and popular solutions in the area of cultural conflicts.
Uccha Surya with lagnesha Budha in randhra bhava house of secret societies makes Blair no stranger to cults and subversive movements. He is also well prepared to deal with these realities of backlash to globalization.
Overall Prognosis:
Politically, Blair is associated with some peacemaking efforts due to Guru's/Shukra's strength rising but he is willing to serve as a hawk, as noted by L-6 Shani rising. He will continue to be perceived favorably as a conscientious leader who tries intelligently peaceful (L-5) means first, then forcefully supports (L-6) war.
All periods of L-3/L-8 Mars are difficult for him, but if he survives the Shani/Kuja period 11/2005-12/2006 he may remain in the PM position indefinitely.
Should he leave or choose to leave the PM position he will go on to similarly dignified assignments throughout his life.
The dashamsha is very strong, guaranteeing a long and honorable career.
Budha mahadasha, Blair's age 58-75, will continue his brilliant articulation of world power, through speech and writing.
Budha occupying randhra bhava, the house of longevity, assures an exceptionally long life.
Update:
In early September 2006, toward the end of Blair's difficult Shani/Kuja period, Blair announced that due to Labor's strong resentment of his alliance with US military interests, he was being urged to step down - and he would. Blair promised to be out of office "within a year" in order to ensure an orderly transition.
It is unfortunate that the very unfavorable Kuja bhukti has forced this very capable leader from office. But perhaps Blair will survive this ousting, too.
At the time of writing, it might be reasonably speculated that because Blair has given himself a year to extract himself from office and that it will be only three months until his adversarial Shani/Kuja period will be finished, that Labor might reverse itself and welcome Blair to stay, after all. Within a few months, Blair's next and more favorable bhukti of Rahu (a karaka for foreign intrigue, racial taboo, and religious mysticism) will get started. Whatever Blair's position, Rahu can be expected to bring increased fame and intense dealings with mysterious, dangerous foreigners.
