As lord of a Bhagya (fortunate) domain, Surya brings good luck and strong intelligence, a delight in performance, and a royal entitlement to enjoy all that is glittering and brilliant in life.

Career

Because Surya is a karaka for career and public recognition, and Ravi = L-5 for Mesha lagna, the Mesha native is somewhat disposed toward to accept public roles and professional leadership responsibilities in the areas of adolescence, creative intelligence, and politics (5) such as theatrical performance, games and entertainments, royalty and courtly life, politics and contests for power (including elections), literary arts, and creativity of children. Vocation or avocation with youth group activities .

Chandra = lord of bhava-4 Karkata, the house of early childhood home, attachment to the land and customs of one's people (especially the maternal culture); indoctrination in the customs and rules of the tribe, diplomas and licensing, emotional and social security, shelters and vehicles of all kinds (think: the crab's movable house-shell and its ever-seeking-security behaviors).

Chandra rules patriotism and love of the homeland, and anything which involves a Foundation - including the final resting place.

According to BPHS ch 43, the period of Chandra-Shukra can be fatal.

Vital and competitive lagnesha Kuja also controls bhava-8. Kuja is the most influential graha for Aja lagna, following the importance of the Moon.

• Mars is healthy and vigorousfor exploration of the intuitive subconscious in the friendly sign of Meena, in the meditative, self-effacing, sanctuary-seeking 12th house.

• Society rewards this native for their strong physical body engaged in healing sanctuary service, such as massage therapy, psychotherapy, hatha yoga instructors, and other physical paths toward integration of body, mind, and spirit.

• Seeks to apply the vital physical energies in a sanctuary space, targeted to helping others recover their health.

Presuming that Kuja is well-disposed, Mangala periods bring opportunities forwinning competitions through physical skill, and recognition for the physical appearance.

Natural Coral or Kuja's lower-potency stones can be worn with good effects, unless there are problematic graha in bhava-8. (There are certain tantrik exceptions where coral would be good, even with problematic graha in randhra bhava, but in general the Chaaga lagna native should avoid Kuja-ratna if there is disturbance in 8.)

Kuja's character in rashi and bhava will determine the field of action for the perpetual challenge, competition and combat which propel this highly vital native into life and work.

This native may be a competitive businessman, a metalworker, a skilled and active sports enthusiast, a hunter, an athlete or dancer, a barber or surgeon or dentists, an emergency worker in police, fire, or ambulance service. One may express the tremendous vitality of Mesha lagna in any good strong physical way (unless Kuja is oppressed by Shani). Weapons and steel implements are nearly always a part of their life.

1. Mangala's position will make or break the success of Mesha lagna folks. Mangala will show the style and direction in which the life force wishes to travel.

2. Should Kuja be exalted, in own sign, in parivartana with his lord, or in kendra, the Mesha native will enjoy worldly success. The stronger Kuja's traits the strong the native 's performance in his specialty.

3. Guru, Shukra, and other benefics will contribute their own measure of talent and capability to the life. However, the lagnesha Kuja has amplified powers.

• if Kuja occupies Makara in Vikrama bhava, He marks excellence in business and a propensity to create self-made wealth. He will be exalted in the house of sales, marketing, administration, meetings, teamwork, colleagues/siblings, and mental tasking. So of course he flourishes in virtually any type of commerce!

• Add a parivartamsha yoga with Shani rising in Scorpio (every 29 years a batch of these people are born!) and see the prognosis for self-made wealth through determined hard work, dominating aggressiveness, and sharp business judgment.

By contrast,

• if Kuja occupies Kumbha, the sign of his enemy, in bandhu bhava, the individual may find that their life force tends to implode. There is little useful expression in the outside world due to the combined oppression of Kuja plunged into the emotional realm of the 4th house and doubly chained to the whims of his adversarial lord Shani.

• The power of kendra is somewhat helpful, providing the stamina to keep this person alive and working until Shani becomes more friendly - usually in middle age. Shani is friendly to age, experience, wisdom, conservative principles, delayed judgments, etc.

• This situation of Mangala will be extremely difficult until Kuja reaches his maturity at age 28; thereafter a comparatively less oppressed period until the 2nd Saturn return in the mid-forties; and thereafter until death (depending on dasha effects) this Mars becomes easier to manage as the body and emotions are less turbulent in age.

Swabhukti of the lagnesha Mangala can be an extremely influential and significant period of the lifetime. For the Vrischika nativity, if possible a Jyotisha remedial Red Coral should be worn during Mangala mahadasha.

Alternatively, the even more powerful offering of Seva will be highly effective. For the entire seven years of the Mahadasha of Angarika, Seva should be offered on behalf of adolescent or young-adult males

Also Seva is appropriately directed to those who need help with forward movement of any kind; sports and hunting; military conquest, weaponry, attacks and invasions; mining, diving, and discoveries; "personal best" wins; birth and re-birth; matters of the physical body vitality, flesh-and-blood; muscular health; new starts, innovation, initiation of projects; start-ups; fire and fuels.

Budha = L-3+ L-6 = "The Problematizer" = an especially pernicious graha for Mesha lagna / Mesha-Chandra.

• Budha and Kuja = Adversarial graha.

• bhava-3 and bhava-6 are "upachaya" dusthamsha which i mprove with time.

• Yet, in the agreement-seeking space, due to the mental character of Budha, Mesha may continue to problematize rather than pursue a solution.

Conversational, administrative, and sexually curious Budha is a troublemaker because He mentally over-stimulates the "inner chatter"of houses 3 and 6.

It is not recommended for the Mesha native to apply Emerald for remedial purposes.

• Psychically gifted persons with Mesha lagna might notice that a bright green light pattern in the personal aura can indicate mental or physical imbalance for Mesha folk. One may choose - from experience and not from superstition - to use colors other than true green, where feasible.

Budha is a particularly difficult graha for Mesha nativities in which Budha = L-6 from both radix lagna (material animosity) and Chandra lagna (emotional imbalance). These are:

1. Mesha radix lagna + Mesha Chandra

2. Mesha radix lagna + Makara Chandra

3. Mesha Chandra + Makara lagna

Periods of Budha for the Mesha native may be filled with many annoyances, overly abundant commercial transactions and administrative (3) messages; undue amounts of writing and reporting (3); too frequency short-term travel (3); and the expected mental-physical health stress (6) resulting from the breakdown of trusts and contracts.

Budha can even signify a divorce under the provenance of the satkona. However one of the best features of both Guru for the Thula lagna and Budha for the Mesha lagna is one quirk of house lordship. This quirk allows the L-3 + L-6 to produce wealth from children, politics, literature, games, and creative speculation = L-2 from 5 and L-11 from 5.

Because Dhanushya = Brihaspati's moolatrikona rashi = identical to Mesha's dharmasthana, Guru = usually religiously minded, although in a predictably orthodox fashion which is more oriented to ceremonial ritual and public preaching (Mangala) and somewhat less to the quiet, invisible realm of private prayer.

However the Mesha native is also very acutely aware of the presence of spiritual guides in the vicinity when Guru is well disposed, so that both public and private religious activities are well supported.

One of the best characteristics of Mesha lagna is that Guru becomes the L-9, and Guru casts His auspicious aspect upon three bhava.

Four of the twelve sthana thus benefit from the graha-drishti of the all-good ninth lord.

Remedial and Supportive Gems: Yellow Sapphire for Mesha Lagna

• Wise and expansive Guru controls all-good bhava-9 but also the house of loss-of-identity and loss-of-body, bhava-12.

• Therefore the typically physical, athletic, competitive Mesha may want to supplement a golden ring of yellow sapphire with a bhagya Ruby or a calming natural Pearl. Combine the Pukha-raja with a Moti for best results.

• Several suitable gems can be designed into a pendant to be worn against the heart chakra, for good effects in education in particular..

• Natives who are highly advanced in spiritual practice and who accept loss of identity (bhava-12) as a reasonable price to pay for religious fellowship and guru (bhava-9) may benefit from wearing the yellow sapphire alone.

Shukra indicates possessiveness, acquisitive tendencies, sensual pleasures, satisfaction, treasures-and-pleasures, luxuries (Laxmi) and all types of sweets.

As lord of 2 and 7 for Mesha lagna, Shukra is especially possessive of collections of valuable objects [including food and money] (2) and their sexual partners (7)

Food-mouth:

• Mesha and Mesha-Chandra tend to be sensual eaters and as a result often battle body-weight accumulation in their later years.

• Mesha-Chandra = emotional-sensual indulgent eater with the resulting fleshly accumulation on a rather volatile emotional cycle; they are stress-driven eaters. Mesha in the radical lagna = slow and steady accumulation through pleasure-eating, resulting in physical portliness toward the later years.

Mesha are characteristically possessive of their partner, and will generally not initiate a divorce or break an business contract. In fact, the typical Mesha (esp the male) will resist divorce and avoid breaking business partnerships even when conditions are very inhospitable.

Mesha has a strong sense of "mine" which allows accruals (Shukra) but not disbursements. Thus their collector's instinct can become very well developed, and potentially compulsive.

• Beware that if you have ever been involved with a Mesha person, you are considered to "belong" to their collection of persons and whatever urge you might have to forget about them they will not forget about you! Mesha marks their possessions with a psychic stamp = "it's mine" .

• The typical middle-aged middle-class USA male Mesha has a garage stuffed with tools, vehicles, and miscellaneous paraphernalia of modern life. The demographically identical female has an equivalent collection of cooking and sewing tools, books, clothes, and gender-equivalent paraphernalia.

  • Dualistic twinning Budha in Vrishabha afflicted by Rahu-Ketu can cause compulsive collecting- behavior with two-ness patterns = the Mesha native collects duplicates, such as two fishing poles two coffee-pots, two libraries. Males = minimum of two wives.

Shukra has a special importance for males = their female partners.

The Makara male native will enjoy the company of women who exemplify the two domains, 2 and 7, which Shukra commands from Mesha. Her gracious presence will contribute to the native 's material enjoyment of wealth, pleasures of the mouth, and diplomatic agreements; likely she will have the ability to save and grow money, and the ability to form equity relationships with important people.

Shukra and Mangala are enemy graha. It is not in general a good idea to over-stimulate Shukra whenever Mesha controls a lagna, including Chandra lagna.

Mesha natives have some tendency toward sensual excess which may be a variety of Freud's "death wish". Shukra = an empowered maraka graha for Mesha lagna. Due to Shukra's maraka implications, avoid using Diamond or the closely related White Sapphire in remedial applications.

(Conventional heat-treated diamonds such as are sold for western-style "engagement rings" will probably have a negligible effect.)

Sweet and sensual Shukra the Devapati controls both the 1st and 2nd marriages. Also, in a male nativity, Shukra = significator of the first wife.

Mesha lagna or Mesha-Chandra indicates characteristics of Dhana and Yuvati in the first wife. Tendency for first wife to be wealthy or acquire wealth quickly after marriage. She will acquire knowledge while enjoying luxurious sensual pleasures (2). In addition, the wife-1-agent is focused on the design and maintenance of balanced contractual relationships (7).

If Shukra is favorable by bhava and rashi, Mesha men may enjoy a very pleasant marriage but the native will need to develop a consciousness regarding sensual limits and keeping the sugars of life in balance.

Pragmatic and conventional Shani controls career and income. Blue sapphire and Shani's lesser stones may be used judiciously. Only during Shani's periods, and only when the native is mentally, emotionally, and socially focused on developing one's public career and material income.

Badhaka-sthana

L-11 Shani = the badhaka lord for Mesha lagna (Badhaka"harming" houses = 9th from a fixed lagna, 7th from a changeable lagna, and 11th from a cardinal lagna. )

• If Surya occupies Kumbha or Shani-Rahu are damaged in the nativity, expect some considerable troubles with the network of friends and associates during periods of Shani. the native may suffer isolation or the identity is oppressed by herd mentalityor crowd movements. One tends to identify with the masses.

• Periods of Shanimay bring forward an agent in the figure of a friend, mentor, elder sibling, or marketplace associate, who (often inadvertently) causes harm to the native via punitive or conformity-imposing behavior, intolerance for expansion of the network into non-traditional areas, and fear of outsiders.

• This badhaka agent must be handled with compassion, in the knowledge that this harm-causing agent is merely a projection of one's own unrealized fear of entering into new connections with people and ideas. Difficult graha in occupation of labha bhava or Shani drishti upon bhava-11 may exacerbate the badhaka agency.

• "For Aries Lagna, Saturn in Taurus, the house immediately after debilitation and the house of his very intimate friend will give position and income as lord of 10 and 11 in 2, more especially if that lord Venus is strong or if there is also the aspect of Jupiter.

• But as a natural malefic, He will certainly cause some wasteful expenditure and some trouble in the family like loss of children."

Rahu's effects for Mesha lagna depend significantly on Rahu's bhava, rashi, and drishti. Rahu's effects for Kumbha lagna depend significantly on Rahu's bhava, rashi, and incoming drishti. Rahu amplifies the effect of any graha who are sharing Rahu's house; and also Rahu magnifies the effects of the lord of His occupied Rashi.

• Rahu and Ketu are said to give positive results in the 3rd, 6th, and 11th bhava from the lagna or from Chandra.

• In addition, some authorities posit that since R-K are exalted in Vrishabha-Vrischika (per BPHS), R-K will give good results when Mangala and Shukra are well-disposed.

• The uchcha Rahu for Mesha lagna becomes a virulent maraka in dhana bhava. Vimshottari periods of Rahu are associated with malignant diseases of Shukra (STD, sugar-related, drug-addictions).

Relative to the Mesha lagna, Rahu = co-lord of bhava-11 Kumbha, therefore Rahu-ratna (gomedha) may become a beneficial gem for matters of professional networking, earnings in the marketplace, and acquisition of gains and achievements (not only monies but ideological goals as well).

However Rahu in either rashi of maraka Shukra = dangerous for Mesha lagna. Even for the economic development target, prescribe the Rahu-ratna should be considered only if the lord of bhava-11 and its occupants are highly auspicious.

Ketu's effects for Mesha lagna depend significantly on Ketu's bhava, rashi, and drishti. Ketu amplifies the effect of any graha who are sharing Ketu's house; and also Ketu magnifies the effects of the lord of His occupied Rashi.

Relative to the Mesha lagna, Ketu is co-lord of bhava-8 Vrischika, therefore Ketu-ratna is highly unlikely to be a beneficial gem *except* for matters of surgery and transformative healing, emergency medical and disaster response, and management of confidential financial information. However even for these purposes, apply Ketu-ratna with caution and only if the lord of bhava-8 and its occupants are auspiciously placed.
