Lapis Lazuli:

  • "Hardness 5-5-1/2, specific gravity, 2.70-2.90.

  • This is a beautiful, rich, deep blue, opaque stone which is frequently speckled with metallic lustre of yellow iron pyrites.

  • The best stones are of a very rich, deep blue colour and are practically free from iron pyrites.

    • The main sources of supply are Afghanistan, Siberia and Andes (Chile).

    It is a cheap stone, but the one with deep or light blue colour can be used as a substitute for Blue Sapphire. "
