Domain-11 rules free associations, networking, setting and achieving goals, and the marketplace of good and ideas.

Labhasthana is Shani's house but it is oh-so improtant to remember that domain-11 is co-ruled by Rahu.

  • The marketplace is built upon a large and regular but highly complex infrastructure of social relationships.

  • A rule-driven system governed by multiple levels of ordered principles, law and policy.

Due to Rahu's influence, risk which is not allowed in domain-10 is encouraged in domain-11. It is a house of goals and achievements, involving both inflexible rules of science and the innovation which is permitted to those who understand the rules.

[from "300 Important Combinations". #59. Vidyut Yoga]

Definition -

  • When the 11th lord is in deep exaltation and joins Venus in a Kendra from the lord of the lagna, Vidyut Yoga is caused.

Results:

  • Charitable, pleasure-loving, a treasurer or controller of wealth and a great king or an equal to him

Remarks:

  • Depending upon the exact strength of the two lords causing the yoga, the person either be a king or equal to him.
  • He will control wealth and he will be a man of generous instincts.
  • Here Venus, the 11th lord and lord of lagna are required to be disposed in a particular manner.
  • Venus is the planet of pleasure and comforts, whereas the lord of the 11th indicates gains.
  • Naturally when the Lagna is strong, and the house of gains and lord of comforts and luxuries is equally strong, one is bound to be well off in life

View of "Labha" or [the extent to which the native is] making a favorable turn, meeting, and gaining permission:

  1. 11th house from radix lagna; L-11
  2. 11th- from- Chandra (gains on basis of mother, gains on basis of emotional disposition)
  3. 11th-from-11th, or Dharma Bhava
  4. Radix (D-1) planets in Kumbha (Aquarius)
  5. 11th-from-Saturn
  6. Radix L-11 within navamsha
  7. 11th from Surya (gains on basis of father, gains on basis of creative performance)

"The eleventh house for gains; elder brother [sibling]; ears; and thigh."-- Madhya Parashari, Ch. 9 , Shloka 11

"Whatever effects are to be known from .. Labha Bhava be also known from similar bhavas counted from Surya. ...Whatever results are to be known from ... Labha, ... should also be known from the ... 11th... from Chandra respectively." -- BPHS Ch. 7, Shloka 39-43

Labha Bhava: Yoga with Other Houses

1st-from-11th

(body parts)

  • blood circulation

  • left ear

  • calves

  • Ankles,

  • subtle electrical networks within the body, e.g. nadi and chi/prana circuitry:

    • blood circulation

    • human nerve network, interior and exterior

    • skin

  • The medical skills which manipulate these networks, e.g. acupuncture and Ayurvedic massage

2nd-from-10th

  • Accumulation of wealth as a result of holding leadership positions

  • the bosses' family, the wealth of the government (citizens of wealth countries have much more marketplace opportunity)

Death of professional focus, death of prestigious position, and development of values of social leadership on a more egalitarian basis.

  • As the native circulates in the marketplace of commodities and ideas, he loses his authoritative position and becomes a peer.

  • His professional supremacy is shared now by others of similar background and accomplishment, who are organized into mutual benefit associations which share the leadership burden thus relieving the native of a heavy workload but also relieving his ego of pride of place.

  • Money earned through profession and public service, and also gains from people in power.

  • The profession house does not need to be dignified for the income house to be strong.

  • Note there are plenty of notorious criminal professions which pay extremely well, in addition to politicians and captains of industry who are richly rewarded for criminal activities disguised as work in the public interest. The robber barons and rentier class of USA's early 20th century stand as classic examples of great wealth acquired despite notable ethical error. History yields abundant examples of the curious fact that great profit may be earned entirely in the absence of either public respect or moral principle.

  • If both karma bhava and labha bhava are dignified, high levels of wealth and prestige are to be expected regardless of ethical quality. However a good 10th house tends to strengthen authentic leadership; that is, however misguided their decisions, the native owning a strong house-10 normally has a parental instinct to lead and protect the people.

3rd-from-9th

Faith Community or "Brotherhood of Religion"

  • writing and discussions (3) about religion (9)

  • brothers or teammates of pujari and priest

  • publication of wisdom writings

  • As 3rd-from-9th, labha bhava shows the communicants of one's belief system. Unlike your birth siblings, these folks are your close friends and associates because you chose each other consciously based on Affinity of faith and ritual.

  • Labha bhava = income, gains, and the marketplace. The best business is transacted with those we trust. As the USA Dollar bill testifies, the power of the free market can be summed up in one phrase: "In God We Trust".

  • The stronger are conditions in labha bhava, the more trustworthy and high-quality are the friends, and the more elevated the belief system that brings together those with common goals. Also, concurrently, the better one's income and the stronger one's faith community.

  • Religious faith itself = 9th house, dharma bhava. If the 9th = strong while 11th = weak, the person can have wonderful faith but will suffer limited peer support for living faithfully. Conversely, a weak 9th with strong 11th may show weak personal faith compensated by a strong, nurturing community.

  • A crippled labha bhava may indicate the person has very few genuinely trustworthy peers. This native expects to go it alone. Negative but empowered planets in 11 show low-brow personal goals and marketplace associates of low moral quality.(E.g., a drug dealer may know a great many people and earn a big profit, but the graha which provide this profit are likely to be empowered malefics .)

  • Several inferior planets in 11 give profit by evil means and an abundance of bad company. Mafiosi; prostitution, weapons, drug and thievery gangs; protection rackets; mercenary militia, other bands of miscreants, is indicated by strong but bad planets in labha-sthana.

  • Genuine criminals will have a damaged Sun (karaka of ability to channel divine intelligence) and damaged Shani (natural lord of 11, networks) plus damage to L-11 and an empowered house-6.

  • House-6 = thieves; house-11 = thieves-of-thieves, i.e., networks of thieves who extract profit from the labor of others.

Communicating about matters of religion, social ethics, best ways to deal with people who are different than us, how to negotiate with spirits, matters of the priesthood including maintenance of temples, fundraising, funding for rituals; also the self-made-wealth of religion is invested in the marketplace.

4th-from-8th

  • stability (4) following emergencies (8)

  • home (4) rebuilt (8) after a catastrophe

  • schooling (4) in management of confidential or hidden assets (8) [e.g., "investment banking"]

  • Shelter (4) for mystics, healers, therapists, and tantriki (8) of all species (provided by the sangha, 11).

  • One's own confidential or secret affairs (8) which are sheltered (4) by one's friends (11).

  • Legacies, inheritances, and unexpected windfalls (8) secured and stabilized (4) in the marketplace (11).

5th-from-7th

  • children (5) from the first partner (7) = usually a major goal of marriage

    • game winnings (5) of partnership (7)

    • Romance (5) supplemental to Marriage (7)

Romance (5) in addition to or following upon marriage (7) i.e. extramarital love affairs.

  • romantic, loving, self-expressive, poetic, child-friendly, creative brilliance (5) that can grow upon the stable platform of committed alliances (7).

  • Depending on condition of labha bhava and yuvati bhava, Extramarital romantic affairs of the spouse (7) may be indicated in labha bhava.

  • Extramarital affairs would occur only if yuvati bhava showed weakness or excess, and if unsettling conditions applied in labha bhava.

  • One's own romantic poetry and idealized loves, if any, are seen through one's putra bhava, the fifth rashi house.

  • Is the first spouse is enjoying an extramarital affair? Check 11th house, 11th lord, 11th navamsha, dasha-bhukti, and transits to labha bhava and all of these items also from Chandra lagna.

  • As 5th-from-7th, labha bhava also signifies the first spouse's children from previous marriage - especially the first spouse's oldest child.

  • For Vrischikha lagna, L-8/L-11 Budha is an especially strong indictor of spousal extramarital affairs. Lord of randhra bhava may be responsible for termination of the first marriage whether through death of the spouse or simply saturation/ death of the agreement.

Simultaneously during a bhukti of of youthful, mentalized Budha, the Vrischika native may experience the breakdown of a fossilized marriage and the possible development of extramarital affairs - but only if Budha's condition warrants such behavior.

Similarly for Vrishabha lagna, the permissive, entitled L-8/L-11Guru performs the same role. Guru likes to have it all!

6th-from-6th

  • servitude and debt of servants (6) naturally are gainful for oneself, because the employee must remain in one's employ

  • Debts (6) of one's enemies (6) reside in the 11th house of profits - naturally! What is bad for one's enemies is nearly always good for the native..

  • Similarly illness (6) and animosity (6) which befall one's enemies and are naturally gainful for oneself, are reckoned from house-11.

  • To determine the outcome of warfare against one's genuine enemies, consult house-11.

  • A strong labha bhava nearly always provides win over enemies. Although enemies may prevail during periods of L-6, they will be defeated by enemies of the enemies during the period of L-11, if L-11 is stronger than L-6.

7th-from-5th

  • Fourth Child

  • As 3rd-from-3rd-from-3rd-from-5th, Labha sthana = fourth child.

  • Bhukti of L-11 from lagna or L-11 from Moon, may bring a fourth child into your life if Guru, L-11, and labhasthana itself are strong.

  • The children's spouses

  • spouse of the eldest child = Labha bhava represents the general condition of all children's spouses, but particularly the spouse of the first child, who is karmically an agent of particular gainfulness when 11 is strong.

  • Bhukti of L-11 activates importance of spouse of oldest child in one's life.

8th-from-4th

strong profile of mother's death circumstances = 8th-from-Chandra

  • Death of mother (not the timing):

  • 8th from any house indicates end-of-cycle for matters of that house, or The circumstances which provide the setting for ending a relationship, project, or event.

  • E.g., timing of death of the first spouse is indicated via 2nd-from-7th, but 8th-from-7th or dhana bhava indicates circumstances of expiration of first marriage by showing the second marriage.

  • Similarly, 2nd-from-9th shows timing of death of father, whereas 8th-from-9th or bandhu bhava shows circumstances of death of the father.

  • putra bhava, 2nd-from-4th.

  • However as 8th-from-4th, labha bhava indicates circumstances of the death of the mother, which often includes the scheduled entry of a stepmother.

  • If labha bhava is in good condition, mother will enjoy a peaceful death in good company, and a smooth transition to the astral plane.

  • If there is to be a stepmother, that stepmother and her effect on the child is also profiled in labha bhava.

  • hidden wealth of the parents - if 11 is strong, an inheritance may be gainful for self

9th-from-3rd

  • wisdom (9) derived from conversations and narrative texts (3)

  • wisdom (9) derived from published messages, including films and songs (3)

  • Friendship, fellowship

  • good fortune develops from your small-group process, including meetings, administration of projects, sibling interactions, and regulation of your mental habits.

  • 11th house is the immediate elder sibling, who acts like a 'father' (9) to the younger siblings (3).

  • 'Siblings' include all children in neighborhood/extended family and, as adults, sibling groups include our corporate workmates and teammate peers.

  • The blessings of 11th house marketplace profits are based in the small-group associations of house-3

10th-from-2nd

  • The social rank of the family of origin = naturally one's social rank determines the qualities of the social network

  • 11th house gains are the result of leadership in the marketplace

  • profits through good association is the development of values (2) through public service (10)

11th-from-lagna

  • social connections via the fleshly genetic appearance

    • computer and electronic device networks, as an extension of the physical-body nerve network

  • communication media networks which feature images of one's appearance or social identity

  • Gains, Profits and Income

  • Elder siblings, Advisors

  • Marketplace Associations, which connect people of various interest groups under a code of shared units of exchange.

  • The "currency" or current unit of exchange will vary from society to society, but whatever values a society chooses, the participants in the network must agree to the current currency :)

12th-from-12th

  • Release from prison or concentration camp

  • discharge from hospital

  • dissolution of privacy

  • loss of bedroom pleasures

  • Too busy to meditate

  • lack of long-term foreign travel (one is far too busy making connections in the local or regional marketplace)

  • Vimshottari period of L-11 shows timing of loss of sanctuary

  • leaving one's monastery or dormitory

  • finishing a tour of duty in a foreign land

 Gains and Income ; Fruition
  • 11 = Kumbha = distributive networks = economies of all types (not only financial).

  • A foremost signification of labha bhava is however the financial economy = The marketplace, with all the gains of association which come through interconnections of people with similar interests.

  • Labha bhava is responsible for all forms of gains and income. Method of income may be salary, commission, rents, royalties, or any other gainful means.

Domain-2 "stored wealth" vs. domain-11 "income stream"

  • Domain-11 = sources of wealth or "revenue streams"; earnings; money coming in.

  • Domain-2 = capital, or cattle. Skandha. Static, hoarded, or banked savings. Food reserves. Money or values historically preserved by one's family of origin. Includes wealth stored in traditions of art, music, theatre, and craft.

  • Along with the relationship with domains 5, 9, and 1 (which determine past-life credit), the relationship between domain-11 and domain-2 (sources and resources) determines the total wealth situation.

 Hopes, Dreams, Wishes, Desires, Attainments

Labha bhava is all about PERMISSION, the right to enter, right to communicate, right to circulate, right to gain information. It is the house of ambitions and aspiration, manifestation and achievement. The seed energy of all manifestation is the wish, hope, desire, or dream that gets it all started.

Good planets in labha bhava show the type and quality of permission in the person's life. When karmic permission levels are high, the person will experience satisfaction of their needs, and gaining of pleasure.

  • Uchcha Budha in labha gives unlimited permission to gain system-related information regarding every variety of economy = social, financial, conceptual, biological, etc. Also, grants a network of highly communicative, well-connected, often mentally gifted friends.

  • Exalted Shani in 11th makes a tremendously hard worker who holds a dedicated commitment to improve one's material circumstances. Through significant effort, one obtains significant material gains.

  • Rahu-11 in almost any rashi triples the desire for material gain, and amplifies the desire to associate with persons from a diverse variety of demographic backgrounds.  Major gains of income during Rahu periods.

  • Crippled planets in Labha show the person lacks permission even to wish for better things. Without the desire, nothing will happen.

  • Cramped conditions in labha give poor circulation in the physical body and also in the marketplace, resulting in limited flow of resources, especially information.

 Elder siblings, Experienced Mentors, Predecessors
  • Domain-11 = one's Immediate elder Sibling and father's younger brother, as well as "those who have gone before" who are just slightly ahead of one on life's path.

  • Guru and professors who speak as more distant moral authorities giving philosophical wisdom belong to dharma bhava. Financial and social advisors giving elder-sibling type of advice are found in domain-11.

  • As 3rd-from-9th, elder siblings (at least in traditional societies) are seen by their younger brothers and sisters as being "brothers to the father" or more senior in social status. Father's other "brothers" such as father's colleagues traditional ly take a mentoring or advising role.

If L-11 is strong and well-placed, the immediate elder sibling will be a very helpful person in one's life, particularly in matters of gain in the marketplace. However if L-11 is uchcha or otherwise exceptionally strong, the native is often himself the eldest. He will have well-placed friends, and gain substantially from the matters signified by that exalted graha. E.g.,

  1. uchcha Surya gains through leadership, politics and theatre

  2. uchcha Chandra gains through

  3. uchcha Kuja gains through commercial competition;

  4. uchcha Budha gains through speech and writing;

  5. uchcha Guru gains through housing and real estate;

  6. uchcha Shukra gains through music and fine arts

  7. uchcha Shani gains through diplomacy and conservative values;

The native can become independently wealthy if both houses (3) and (11) are powerful.

Friends, Friendliness, Networks human and technological
  • Naturally the marketplace is a gathering arena for friends.

  • Labha bhava/Aquarius rules acquaintances, social gatherings, agreements between friends, community activities, development work, and networks of all kinds (including electro-magnetic device networks like computer, telephone, internet, etc.)

  Appreciation for the Sangha
"As our understanding and faith in the Dharma grows, we develop an appreciation for the Sangha, the individuals, both past and present, who have attained such states of freedom from suffering.

We can then conceive of the possibility of a being who has attained total freedom from the negative aspects of mind: a Buddha. < >

And as our recognition of the miserable nature of life develops, so does our appreciation of the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha - the Three Jewels in which we seek shelter.

This intensifies our quest for their protection."
