Graha in Sukha Bhava

Planets in the Fourth House

Graha

These effects are incomplete -- because they do not consider rashi, drishti, or navamsha roles of the graha.

Bhava placement is one important dimension of planetary character but must always be understood in the broader context of rashi, drishti, and varga relationships.

Surya

Mother has a strong, self-directed, independent character which can (depending on the rashi) be a vigorous promoter of their offspring, or a social rationalist, or a wise & capable leader - or all of the above.

Mother is normally a public person with executive capability, the leader-manager in her home.

The mother wishes the child to follow in her professional footsteps. The native's parenting style is independent and rational, with less regard for traditions and more enthusiasm for incisive critical thought. (Any influence of Shani will restrain freedom.)

If yuti Budha, mother is highly intelligent & an ambitious planner.

If yuti Shukra, both mother & child are attractive & talented. [except in Simha, where Shukra goes combust, leaving the native theatrically talented but not classically attractive.]

Footsteps tend to lead into the performance arts, since Surya is the karaka for theatre & public performance. The mother is often involved in theatre/politics - whether her role is covert or overt. The native learns the arts of self-confidence & rational self-promotion from their mother.

A common position for professional actors/politicians whose mothers are great coaches & promoters.

Strong ego identification with the mother and her life. Typically favors the mother in character and appearance, with less attachment to the father.

Vigorous patriotism. Strong rational understanding of property, education, reputation & social ranking.

Ego attachment to the mother's family lineage.

Chandra

Chandra is a highly impressionable graha; drishti and house lord are exceptionally influential in rendering the final result of Chandra's behavior in bandhu bhava.

Generally a positive placement presuming Chandra is well-disposed by rashi & drishti. Strong emotional attachment to the mother, home, property, nation-state, tribe, & most of all the land. Can be a passionate environmentalist. Natural care-taker with powerful nurturing instincts. These instincts will express along the lines set by the rashi lord, & within limits or with additional permissions as created by drishti.

Mother is a nurturing personality with giving breasts and embracing arms. Contributes a self-protectiveness to the character which is learned from the mother and her lineage. Instinct to shelter and protect self and others. Deeply parental orientation whether the native is male or female.

As a parent, the native is deeply concerned with the delicate pre-verbal stages of childhood. Strong focus on food, nurturing, emotional well-being and safety. May be fearful of releasing the child into the greater world; more "home-schoolers" here.

As a teacher, often specializes in early childhood education and infant care. May operate a school inside their home.

The home environment while emotionally rich may also be troubled if the child feels overwhelmed by the parents' feelings.  Yuti Rahu, can create a "smother-mother" who binds the child too tightly to her own views, and becomes dependent on the child for her own security.

Yuti Kuja will produce the auspicious Chandra-Mangala yoga, giving wealth & commercial ambition. Yuti Guru, may produce a great many children. Yuti Shani, a "permanent saade sati" which binds the child to the family or the land without benefit; a demanding but absent or emotionally unavailable mother.

Whether easy or difficult, emotional attachment to the mother & property is deep & self-defining. This native should have some land & people to care for if they would feel fulfilled.

Kuja

Nelson Mandela

Bill Gates

Elizabeth Taylor

Cindy Crawford

Conflict, competition & disruption in the home environment. Karaka for divorce or death of the parents, particularly for trouble to the mother. Sickness & overwork for the mother.

Political instability or war in the land of birth, causing change of home & country. Conflicts between the parents due to difference in parental origins, conflict between the grandmothers (the mothers of the native's two parents.)

Conflict with conservative national government, with the customs & traditions of the dominant culture or associated with the land & its people. An agent for social & physical mobility, breaking up stuck old social behaviors, anti-caste and opposed to fixed locations whether physical or social.

Parenting style may be non-traditional or eccentric, with a willingness to move house for professional or political reasons or bringing the parent's work into the home. Karaka for a home office esp. if lagnesha in domain-4.

Dislikes customary social ranking. An independent agent; aggressively seeking reward for individual performance while rejecting inherited family benefits. Due to Kuja's drishti upon house-10, Kuja in 4 helps independent career. Due to Kuja's drishti upon house-11, this Kuja position in 4 will also generate a strong work motive which stimulates earnings.

Even with frequent changes of career due to dissatisfaction & restlessness, the native will earn reasonably well. In fact native will realize some substantial gain of earnings through entering & leaving positions. Often discontented in their work, but does well in independent, targeted, competitive, project-oriented tasks. Capable of vigorous physical labor, especially in short bursts. Not good for long-term commitments.

A "rolling stone" who moves house frequently. If L-4 is gracious, the homes may be lovely, but the native will migrate from home to home. Too much competitive energy to stay in one place. If L-4 is inauspicious, damage to the home through disaster (social or physical). If yuti Budha, frequent arguing in the family home. With Chandra, ambitious and works well with mother. If Kuja is lagnesha, native is deeply identified with their home.

Kuja's restlessness begins to recede after Kuja "matures" at age 28; but when Kuja occupies Sukha Bhava even a late-life Kuja bhukti may restimulate their peripatetic instincts.

This position of Kuja creates the most virulent form of Kuja dosha because the 4th drishti of Kuja is the most powerful. Frustration with the marriage partner, disagreement & conflict with the partner's body & personality. Partner often ill, with many changes of career. Spouse's career is physical, involving outdoor work, muscular movement, sports or competitions, engineering, manufacturing or construction; working with metals, heat, & fuel-burning engines.

If with Shani, an angry & conflicted home life. Spouse's career oppressive & demeaning. If with Guru, many offspring & an outdoor lifestyle such as farming. With Surya, an educator & administrator of engineering or technical education.

This person needs physical space. To increase happiness potential, they need regular change of scene, physical exercise, and "a room of one's own."

Budha

Julia Roberts

Nikola Tesla

One's mother and oneself are intelligent & shrewd. Karaka for an educator, writer, and thinker upon basic questions. Will receive a good deal of verbal input from the mother. The mother is the first teacher and may indeed be the best teacher, although a drishti of Guru is necessary for the broadest mind to develop.

Does well in real estate, accounting & bookkeeping, home management skills, local politics, education business, housing industry. Spouse's career in information management. Excellent karaka for home-based business.

The native's parenting style is highly communicative. Children become equal communication partners as soon as they can speak. This parent is chatty & likes a constant flow of information in the home.

Budha is an exceptionally impressionable graha, so Budha's effects here in Sukha bhava depend almost entirely on His rashi lord and drishti upon Him, which bhavas He rules, etc.

This is a clever individual with a clever mother who communicates in a friendly & enthusiastic style with the native. Native's thinking, talking, & relationship-building activities are well supported by their mother.

With Surya, capable & smart. Yuti Chandra, emotionally volatile & tending toward immature behaviors, but

Guru

Camilla Parker-Bowles

Shri Aurobindo

Chandra-Guru yoga is generally favorable. This native seeks emotional identity validation through physical fertility, through involvement in lives of their children or their works of art, & through maintaining a positive worldview

Generally pleasant & cheerful folk unless either Guru or Chandra is damaged. Although their "heart is in the right place," this native may be prone to a "Pollyanna" type of excess optimism. Positive view may filter out authentic but negative information, giving pretty but inaccurate worldview. Their glass is always half-full :)

Like all yogas involving the Moon, it gives a tendency to project one's feelings upon others. Tends toward a super-optimistic projection that more realistic souls in their environment may find hard to take. Yet, overall, their overbearing emotional projections are more helpful than harmful in this weary world.

The native craves wisdom but because they ignore negative perceptions, they may project a need for everyone in their environment (especially family members) to display a cheerful optimism & full agreement at all times.

Strong compassion & charitable instincts if the intellectual capacity is well developed. Feels root-connected to one's property, including the servants and animals; wants to expand one's holdings to take care of more beings. Outside one's own property, tends toward humanistic sympathy or pity for those less fortunate.

Brings good fortune into the native's life. Frequently more than one mother. If Chandra-Guru-yuti-Rahu, may bring several mothers from different cultures who all help the native in different ways. (Karaka for beneficial cross-cultural adoption).

Strong humanistic tendencies & maternal instincts make a wonderful caretaker. If connected with lagna/lagnesha, gives an abundant physical body with large breasts.

If the nativity shows no other source of social identity, Chandra-Guru can make a "breeder" whose sole emotional validation comes from enacting their reproductive powers.

In rashis of Shani may be emotionally constrained: gives problems with mother, and wants to care for others but fails due to inadequate early mothering. In Karkata rashi, highly auspicious for wealth, children, & home.

Generally very nice people, whether they are effective in the world or not.

Shukra

Julia Child

Nikola Tesla

Christopher Reeve

Paramahansa Yogananda

Shri Aurobindo

Love of nurturing & caretaking, feeding & beautifying in the home. Rashi of Shukra determines type of home, but usually the native lives in a pleasant & even luxurious place, & is nicely cared for.

Parenting style is indulgent & soft. This parent finds their children to be very beautiful & precious. Native or their mother may operate a school of arts or music in their home.

First caretaker is the mother who is gracious & may even adore her child; subsequent caretakers also lavish much favorable attention upon the native.

Takes great pleasure in the landscape, and appreciates all works of Nature. Loves their mother and finds her quite beautiful.  Nice comfortable vehicles.

Not generally favorable for a rigorous analytical education as the individual is too much oriented toward love & beauty. However they tend to do well in life. Natives makes a successful aesthetic match with their surroundings. Socially attractive even if the native is not a classic beauty, because people enjoy having this native in their environment.

  Shani

Mahatma Gandhi

actor Rex Harrison

Madonna

Brad Pitt

Elvis Presley

Josef Stalin

inventor Nikola Tesla

Unless Shani is dignified - in rashi of Kumbha, Makara, or Thula - there is oppressive trouble with the early home life and the mother. Frequently a karaka for early loss of the mother, particularly if Shani casts drishti upon Chandra. May be an authoritarian parent, focused on rules exclusively.

Absentee mothers due to work schedule, divorce, death, illness, or any other cause forces the native to self-parent. If mother is present she is very hard-working & may not have much time to devote to the native's well-being.

Native is comfortable in a working class environment; with physical labor; with lower social ranking; with deprivation, routine, & rules.

The native will have a harsh or rule-driven mother who prefers the discipline of external performance standards to the soft & permissive "unconditional" love of motherhood. Many conditions applied to the native's acceptability, & the mother is relentless in her constraint.

When Shani has dignity however a strong moral & material foundation based on solid work ethic & personal responsibility, with deep respect for consequences, is created in the family home.  Mother is the agent of moral discipline & character formation.

Should house-4 receive additional drishti, the family home may be either easier or more difficult. If Shani in 4 receives drishti of Kuja, frustration & tension in the home. With Chandra, a permanent grief from loss of mother. With Shukra, fortune in home management, interior decoration, architectural engineering, other design work - esp. in industrial applications.

Rahu

Ammachi

Deepak Chopra, M.D.

Pres. JFK, Sr.

Pres. Thom. Jefferson

Henry Kissinger

King Birendra of Nepal

Much depends on Rahu's rashi lord. However in general, Rahu brings a disruptive but also fascinating influence into the childhood home. Frequently a karaka for secret, exotic or taboo activities in the home. For example,  JFK Sr.'s father was a prohibition bootlegger, where Rahu's lord is a highly empowered swakshetra Shukra for liquors.

The early education is influenced by foreign cultural attributes, & this unconventional mix of traditional academic form (house-4) with the exotic international content (Rahu) is supported overtly or covertly by an adventurous-minded mother. Native typically enjoys a good quality education so long as Rahu's lord is gracious.

The mother may have unsavory attributes if Rahu's lord bring the unsavory, or the family home may be full of fascinating foreign dignitaries & exotic foods, if Rahu's lord brings refined foreign pleasures.

Rahu is always malefic in some sense, even when His contribution makes the native's life more vigorous, interesting, & colorful than would conventionally be allowed. The home becomes a site for sudden changes, sometimes catastrophic. The nature of the catastrophe is known via Rahu's lord. When Rahu's lord is a highly impressionable graha like Chandra or Budha, the lord of the lord will be causative also.

As hereditary monarch, King Birendra of Nepal was raised in a household full of foreign dignitaries. Despite the exclusive habits of his religiously conservative & physically isolated country, his education occurred abroad. King Birendra's schooling exposed the monarch to many foreign concepts & viewpoints.

Unfortunately, Rahu's lord is the maraka L-7 Budha. At the onset of Budha mahadasha, the King was murdered at his own dinner table (4), in the center of home & hearth (4), by a blood relative.

Budha's lord is the miserably neechha Kuja yuti Shani/Karka in putra bhava. Evidence suggests that Birendra was murdered not only in the hearth of his own home (Rahu/house-4) but also by the hand of his own son.

Ketu

Pres. Jimmy Carter

Pres. Dwight Eisenhower

P.M. Margaret Thatcher

Sen. Al Gore, Jr.

Prince Charles

Julia Roberts

Detachment from the mother's home. The character of the mother herself is best seen through Chandra, but Ketu is sukha bhava shows that the mother is not much present in the child's early home life. (Mother may in fact be out in the world and  influencing the child in other ways; see Prince Charles.)

A wandering sensibility in education.  Samples various studies, but precious little deep meaning available from formal education. Poorly prepared or uncaring teachers in early education. Does not easily absorb or attach oneself to the conventional values of his birth culture.

An outlander in terms of cultural identity; may identify more strongly with a country not his own. Unless the Moon is very strong, mother is a weak influence on personality development.

Mother is disconnected from the home, and substitute caretakers fill her role. She may be detached from her own foundations through mental illness, drug addiction, heavy external commitments, or other disassociation with the home-keeping & nurturing role.

Absence of a strong attachment to the maternal home may stimulate a stronger connection to the father's beliefs & lineage. Margaret Thatcheris a good example of this pattern. She cites her childhood political discussions with her conservative father as the most powerful influence of her youth.

Little interest in sustaining traditional home life, or ownership/stewardship of the land. May not be concerned with environmental pollution or responsibility toward Earth. Free agent.

When Ketu occupies bandhu bhava, Rahu must occupy karmaa bhava. Native will have a desire to develop the values of the father's family (house-10) into some sort of public leadership role.

Native's national sensibilities are blunted; while their international or global orientation is strengthened. These natives are citizens of the world, but they may not have the full trust or support of their own people.
