[Thula]... "Literally means scale. It refers to the seventh sign of
the zodiac also known as Libra. Thula also means one's position or stance, which
is similar to one's weight on a scale.
The word 'thula' is used throughout Indian
languages to mean one's position. For example, in the west if someone is known as
a "heavyweight", or "a major player", such references are
in regard to one's 'thula', position or stance in relation to others.
This process
of judgment can be likened to the balance of a scale. "

The profile of "Yuvati" or "the yoke", comes through:
In addition it would be foolhardy to jump to conclusions about marriage,

in Lagna vs. Lagnesha in domain-7:
Seventh lord in lagna = Marriage
partnership controls the personality.
-
Social personality conforms
to partnership requirements and the needs of the spouse. Native is socially identified with
one's marriage and business partners.
-
Nature of conformance judged
by characteristics of L-7.
-
E.g., if L-7 = Budha, native
mainly talks about their marriage commitments (follow-through would
depend on other graha in lagna). L-7 in a rashi of Shani = conservative
traditional spouse and marriage practices. L-7 in a rashi of Guru = liberal
& expansive character of the spouse, and native conforms to/expands
with that character. L-7 = Shukra,
tendency toward sensualism. In Kanya, troubled women partners define the
identity. Etc.
Lagnesha in domain-7 = Personality
controls the contractual relationships.
-
One sees the partnership as
an extension of the vital self.
-
Native is a born negotiator,
contract-maker, and crafter of agreements. Finding balance of mutual
interest is the core component of one's personal self-image. Because the
partner is an extension of the Self, what is good for the native must be
good for the partner.
-
One imposes one's own social
profile onto marriage & partnership operations. May not conform to the
conventional model of marriage practices, but will normalize one's own
eccentric views by asserting that the spouse shares fully in the
partnership process. Spouse is likely to go along with one's own stronger
personality, esp. if the graha is favorable.
-
Nature of personalized
expression of agreement-crafting is to be judged by characteristics of
L-1. Some examples:
-
If L-1 = Shukra, native
expresses a feminized taste, full of sweetness & sensual
indulgence. If in Mesha, celebration of friendly competition & sexuality
as the ultimate in-body experience.
-
If L-1 = Guru, liberal and
permissive. If in Kanya, prefers demure & youthful spouses.
-
If L-1 = Surya, what's
mine is mine and what's yours is mine too. (Only possible for Simha
lagna, usually unfavorable.)
-
If L-1 = Shani, the native is a
traditionalist in marriage and the spouse will be chosen for their
ability to reflect a conventional, law-abiding social profile.

Domain-7 :
Yogas to Other Houses
|
|
See how the angles work out with high positive effects for the all-important third
kendra, Yuvati bhava:
-
Trine houses 1,5, and 9 are always
auspicious.
-
Kendra houses 1,4,7, and 10 are generally auspicious.
Regardless of planetary aspects, the
Marriage/ Contracts/ Relationships/ Agreements house has many
expansive, auspicious attributes due to its relatively favorable angle to the other 11
houses:

|
1st-from-7th
(body parts, physical level)

2nd-from-6th
|
death of animosity/imbalance

3rd-from-5th

4th-from-4th

5th-from-3rd

|
7th-from-1st

The less auspicious, constrictive angles are:

|
|
8th-from-12th
|

|
By and large, if the marriage indicators are even moderately
favorable, marriage & core partnerships are predisposed to help us in life -
with a 75% positive / 25% negative ratio.
...the 11th sign from the 9th house is the 7th house which shows
gains/increase of Dharma and the 12th sign from the 9th house in the 8th
house which shows loss/decrease of Dharma.
Thus, marriage indicates an
increase of Dharma while widowhood symbolizes a destruction of Dharma. ...
in Hindu wedding the son-in-law is regarded as Vishnu, as his coming to the
family has led to an increase in Dharma.

Marriage, Cohabitation, Conjugal
Life
The seventh rashi, or yuvati [young woman] bhava, is a very influential
house in the Jyotisha nativity. Generally domain-7 is the second most powerful
house in the chart, after the lagna or Chandra lagna.
Yuvati bhava displays the blueprint for marriage, the character
of the first spouse, the condition of the internal genitals, and the quality of sexual
communication in this life.
Yuvati bhava especially signifies the first marriage, but its blueprint
continues to affect subsequent marriages.
Domain-7 = the
energy and function of the internal genitals, and this energy influences all
but the most rarified marriages. Sexual pleasuring tastes develop slightly but in
essence they do not change much throughout the lifetime. What changes is our understanding of human
sexuality and our skill in managing it.
Also the psychological profile of yuvati bhava will continue to apply in a
sort of translucent way, to all subsequent spouses. This is the very
basic dynamic of relating - how much time alone, time for sexual relaxation,
basic body requirements - which don't change because the vibe generated
by tanu
bhava (native's physical body) remains pretty steady throughout life.
Yuvati profiles expression of all natural bodily urges, especially the
sexual instincts. As the house of the object of desire, the possessed,
and the projected-upon, yuvati profiles
gross materiality of all kinds.
Not all adults have sexual partners; yet, all adults have a punya bhava.
Everyone has one significant partnership, even if that partnership is with a
deity or an idea. Yuvati rules the opposite polarity to the self
- whatever that opposite pole is. The opposite pole can arrive in
many different packages. To truly understand sexuality, it is
necessarily to understand energy polarity. Yuvati or the marriage house
governs all energy exchanges - energy coming in, energy going out - between
spiritual beings and their psychic projections.
Legal
Partnerships, Contracts, deals, Brokerage
First and most important
signification of kalatra bhava is contractual unions of all kinds,
especially the first marriage but also business partnerships -- which except for the sexual
element, function identically to marriage.
All equal-to-equal, peer partnerships should be considered
from the 7th house and its attributes. Professional consulting
relationships, business partners, performing arts partners, and most partners
in a therapeutic or advising relationship are seen through yuvati bhava.
Deals and deal-making, brokerage, trading, all forms of equal
exchange on the balance scale, are in yuvati. Negative effects on the
seventh house can result in legal bondage originating in unfavorable
binding contracts. (Such as lease, child custody, etc.)
Legal and medical advising, at least in situations where the
client or patient takes adult responsibility for making their own
choices using information provided by the advisor rather than having the
advisor dictate their decisions.
Exceptions are non-peer therapeutic or advising
relationships which are more accurately understood as replacements for
parenting, or are primarily vehicles for teaching. Often this occurs
with medical advising in particular.
If bandhu
bhava is dramatically stronger than yuvati or if L7 occupies bandhu, or
Moon in yuvati, etc. then yuvati's egalitarian qualities diminish, and
partnerships become more settings for mothering. Similar effects for
dharma will bring partnerships more into a fathering or guru space. A
super-powerful L9 in yuvati might see the native marrying their guru.

1st-from-7th
= yuvati bhava |
7th-from = Relationship balance,
ability to create and maintain agreements, ability to compose contracts
and form alliances, ability to resolve conflict in the law courts or
through the negotiating process.
Consulting, advising, peer relationships. Equity and
equability. Mutual interest, mutual respect, harmony, balanced design,
alignment, poise, human satisfaction provided by other humans. Scales,
balancing devices, negotiation, arbitration, mediation. Satisfactory
outcome of the legal process.
Law courts and those who practice there. Attorneys
who seek mutual beneficial outcomes for their clients.
(Philosophy of law and theories of justice +
Satisfaction from non-human/divine partnerships = domains of Guru. Lack of
balancing abilities is represented by domain-6, 12th-from-balanced-7th.
6th house also for criminal attorneys, those perhaps not seeking a
balanced outcome. Anything or anyone seeking balance = domain-7).
Because house-7 is 4th-from-4th, there will be some character resemblance between first spouse (of either gender) and the
maternal grandmother = 4th-from-4th.

2nd-from-7th
= Randhra bhava |
shows the spouse's family-of-origin,
speech/language behaviors, and wealth (ability to save, amass,
accumulate, hoard re: materials of value). joint wealth & shared values
of marriage, or the spouse's contribution to the financial welfare of the
union. Malefic influences in domain-8 will
reduce accumulations of joint marital wealth and make relations with
in-laws rather difficult. Benefic graha provide
luxury through wealth of the spouse (Jacqueline
Kennedy Onassis). Uchcha Budha may provide a well-spoken and
reasonable spouse. Uchcha Guru is a very generous spouse; even divorce
settlement is abundant. In general good planets in domain-8 allow one to
profit from other people's money. (Don't worry, you've earned this
privilege in past lives.)

|
|
4th-from-7th
= karma bhava
|
shows the spouse's fixed properties, his/her family's
lands/properties, level of education.
Most importantly, karmasthana
shows spouse's early childhood home, where one's core identity is
established. Domain-4 determines the scope of one's capability to achieve
social and emotional security. Mother-in-law's nurturing,
home-making, and security-providing persona is indicated in 4th-from-7th.
Naturally, a secure and grounded spouse is a major
influence upon one's own ability to serve in demanding, heavy-workload,
public service leadership positions that are signified by one's own karma
sthana. It may or may
not be amusing to realize that spouse's mother occupies the same house as
your boss at work. Yes, spouse's mother is subconsciously in the
role of moral authority i.e., the right way to do things. Karma bhava shows status
accruing to the first marriage through the landed property of the spouse
and the negotiation of authority between you & your
mother-in-law within in the marital home. (If 10th-from-Moon i& its
lord are strong, the native enters the marriage with superior authority
and will not negotiate much & have permission to do things your own
way.)

|
|
5th-from-7th
= labha bhava
|
shows the spouse's artistic/literary creativity,
attitude toward children, gaming and risk-taking, + romances
(including extramarital affairs).
Since 5th-from-7th = labha bhava = the
native's own radix house of gainfulness, networks, and community of
friendly associations, the spouse's romances are also usually occurring
within one's extended circle of friends, and the spouse's luck in gaming +
risk-taking is also connected to who one knows in the marketplace of goods
and ideas.

shows the spouse's friendship networks,
gainfulness, income, profitability in the marketplace, goals,

Law
Courts
Domain-7, the house of contracts and negotiations, includes the law courts
and litigation which results in an agreement. (Problematic,
chronically unresolved, or spurious, or mal-intended litigation is represented
by Ripu Bhava, the house of conflict, domain-6). Attorneys and advocates must have a prominent 7th-house and radix-L-7 to be
successful in legal practice.
The ideal charts for success in legal reasoning feature Budha/7, in any
nearly any rashi. Ideal rashi = Mithuna (for the communicative capability
and writing skills), Kanya (for categorical thought and detailed argumentation),
Dhanau (for optimism and philosophy of law), Thula (for balanced agreements and
diplomacy), and Makara (for sober realism in the legal system).
Positive dasha and transit planets indicate success in court.
Contract-making Domain-7 Vs. Philosophy-Making Domain-9
In contrast to the practical legal skills necessary to prosper in domain-7,
professorial skills in teaching the philosophy of law, philosophical
understanding of the moral imperative underlying judgeship, conceptual (not
pragmatic) levels of legal education, and other contemplative, social-philosophical
aspects of understanding the law appear in dharma bhava, the 9th house
of moral and political philosophy.
One with strength in domain-9 understands the movement of social policy into
social law, and one is also (ideally) empowered to effect justice through the
priesthood of moral leadership.
Day-to-day workings of
the court = punya bhava.
Attorney [advocate] profession,
legal and paralegal, legal secretary, making of
contracts and agreements, partnership, mediation, arbitration, litigation, fair resolution of
disputes, adversarial undertakings, are all part
of the seventh house.
In keeping with the adversarial
potential of relationship management, punya bhava also rules Equal
Adversaries in War.
Timing
of Death
The second and seventh radix
houses are
"maraka" houses. Their planetary lords time the departure
of spirit out of the container of the fleshly body.
The periods of L2 and L7 from lagna or Moon
can show timing of death for the native. Similarly, 2nd-from-7th
can show death of first spouse (or end of first marriage/divorce) 2nd-from-4th
or 7th-from-4th can time
death of mother, etc.
However conditions
of death - place, cause, environment etc. - are of the 8th house, thus
condition of death for first spouse = dhana bhava, whilst conditions of death
for spouse-2 = dharma sthana, etc.
Mars/Rahu period is extremely
dangerous if Rahu occupies yuvati bhava:
"Danger from snakes, wounds, destruction of cattle, danger from animals, diseases, due to imbalance of bile and wind, imprisonment etc. will be the results, if Rahu is in
Randhra, or Vyaya, or receives a Drishti from, or is associated with malefics.
There will be loss of wealth, if Rahu is in Dhana and
great danger of premature death, if he is in Yuvati.
The remedial measure to be adopted to obtain relief from the above evil effects are Naga Puja, offering food to Brahmins and Mrityunjaya Japa. They will help in the prolongation of longevity."
~~ BPHS 11-14.
Mother's fixed property, maternal grandmother
4th-from
any house shows the property owned by matters of that house, as well as
mother-of matters in that house. As 4th-from-4th,
yuvati bhava indicates landed or otherwise immovable property belonging to the
mother, as well as mother's mother, or the maternal grandmother. See
also 4th-from-Moon to
confirm.
By extension, 4th-from-4th-from-4th
or karma bhava shows the maternal grandmother's landed estate. See also 10th-from-Moon
to confirm.
Career
As 10th-from-10th,
yuvati bhava is one of the three primary angles which define the career and
"favor from government".
To profile the native's career, consider :
-
condition of karma bhava itself,
-
role of L-10 in D-10 and D-9,
-
any graha in 10th-from-Moon.
-
Then, confirm conditions in 10th-from-10th, yuvati
bhava.
This process should yield a fairly complete picture of career.
Second
Child
3rd-from-5th,
punya sthana -- generally counted from Chandra lagna -- represents the second child. Bhukti of L-7 from lagna or
L7-from-Moon, or 7th-from-Guru, can bring a second child into your life if
other circumstances are aligned.
Erosion
of longevity
As 12th-from-8th,
yuvati bhava contains the mandate for deterioration or dissolution of
longevity. It is well known that nothing gives a person wrinkles faster
than marriage. Naturally, the process of sharing one's vital energies
with the spouse can lead to erosion, even hemorrhage, of one's own vital
energies.
Malefics in yuvati bhava not only
generate a psychic drain from relationship with the spouse; naturally, these
malefics also exhaust the native.
Owing to their status as 12th-from-8th,
the seventh house and its lord are called Maraka, or "death
causing". Timing of death is seen from period of rashi L7 or
L2. In my experience L2 is generally more potent in death charts
overall, but L7 figures more prominently in surprise deaths.
Moving
house
As 4th-from-4th, yuvati can
signal acquisition of residence.
Check also 4th-from-Moon, and
transits to bandhu bhava and yuvati bhava.
Saturn
drishti to kalatra bhava:
N.B.: I find that, ceteris paribus,
Shani's negative aspect to the marriage house, which occur when Shani
occupies houses 1, 5, & 10, does not break up marriages.
It makes
them loveless, unhelpful, and full of grief. But doesn't cause divorce
per se. It gives stamina.
Shani occupying house-7 gives tremendous
endurance, despite the reality of an often loveless marriage to a lower, unsuitable or oppressive spouse.
Shani respects rules & tradition above all. L-8
and L-6 in yuvat bhava make marriage miserable. L-8 in java sthana will
eventallu cause divorce (during bhukti of L-8 or L-2). Unless
Shani is L-8 (as for Mithuna & Karka lagna) Shani is not a divorce
causer. Just a misery causer...

Actually, we Buddhists are supposed to save all sentient
beings, but practically speaking, this may be too broad a notion
for most people.
In any case, we must at least think in terms of helping all
human beings. This is very important.
Even if we cannot think in terms of sentient beings inhabiting
different worlds, we should nonetheless think in terms of the
human beings on our own planet. To do this is to take a practical
approach to the problem. It is necessary to help others, not only
in our prayers, but in our daily lives.
If we find we cannot help another, the least we can do is to
desist from harming them. We must not cheat others or lie to them.
We must be honest human beings, sincere human beings.
On a very practical level, such attitudes are things which we
need.
Whether one is a believer, a religious person, or not, is
another matter. Simply as an inhabitant of the world, as a
member of the human family, we need this kind of attitude. It is
through such an attitude that real and lasting world peace and
harmony can be achieved.
Through harmony, friendship, and respecting one another, we can
solve many problems in the right way, without difficulties.
