Traditionally, Language originates in the human structure,
within the cave of Brahma.

"Jupiter must be the karaka for language.
If
he is in lagna or aspects the 9th house, one will know several
languages.
The second house indicates speech.
If Ketu is in the second, or the lord of the second
happens to see the second, then the native will become well versed in a
number of languages.
The second house and Jupiter are the most important
factors for judging linguistic capabilities."

The teachers should similarly:

Jupiter is the "Guru of the Gods". He is the
teacher of teachers; the high-priest; the voice of Truth. His portfolio
includes wisdom, ritual excellence, and joy.
Psychically,
Guru indicates the native's "permission"
levels set at birth.
-
Karmically, Guru
tells us what type of talent, gift, and privilege is stored in the
"credit account" created by generous actions in past
lives.
-
Physically, Guru
expands everything He contacts. He can change the size of the
person's annamayakosha (the "food body"). When He
sends a drishti to the lagna, for example, Guru makes the person look
large. When He sends drishti to Chandra, the person is
reproductively fertile.
-
Emotionally,
Guru is relaxed and confident.
-
Socially,
Brihas-pati is compassionate & generous.
-
Intellectually,
Guru is omniscient Himself & a wonderful teacher to others.
"It is only
the mean-minded who calculate in the manner that such and such is mine and
such and such is alien.
For those of
magnanimous character the whole earth is one family. " ~~ Pancha

Buddhist Texts (vs. images)
"It wouldn't be bad if you didn't have statues, but it has become
indispensable to have Buddhist texts which deal with the structured path to
train our mind.
If you have Buddhist texts, read them for yourselves and to friends who
visit. That way you can help others to understand Buddhist ideas.
For
instance, it is interesting to read Milarepa's life story & songs. We find
in them many enlightening lessons. Buddha's image alone will not purify us of
karmic obscuration....
-
It is very important to study the scriptures. They are not to be just
stacked up on the altar. They must be cultivated in our mind. ...
-
[we] take
great interest in having the symbolic representations of Buddha's body,
speech & mind.
-
I feel it is more important to acquire & read scriptures, the symbolic
representations of his speech.
-
You can pay homage to them, you can make
offerings to them; above all, you should study them."

Q:
Dear Barbara,
... Presume that one has both Jupiter (Guru) and Rahu in the sign of
Taurus. What general conclusion could one draw from this arrangement? I'm
presuming that in Jyotisha or traditional Vedic astrology, two planets (grahas)
are automatically in conjunction when they occupy the same sign or house.
(Concerning the house location of those two bodies, I'm not quite sure.)
Thank you for any consideration that you may give to this question.
A:
Well there are a few general conclusions to be drawn about this pair of
Guru + Rahu in Vrishabha rashi -- although Jyotisha graha are pretty tightly
interlinked with each other, and generally it's misleading to judge graha
without knowing all of their drishti, house placements, etc.
-
when Guru + Rahu share a rashi, in the radix
chart, they will also share a house. However, in the bhava chart, they
might be in adjacent houses based on their degree positions.
-
when Guru + Rahu share a rashi, this pair will
have a very strong influence on four houses -- 1/3/ of the total real
estate of the chart. They have so much influence because both Guru and
Rahu cast 5-7-9 drishti. E.g., if Guru+Rahu occupy domain 8, they would
both cast drishti upon domains 12, 2, and 4.
-
Rahu amplifies both His lord, and any co-tenants.
Rahu will amplify and expand Guru. Guru is by nature the graha of wisdom
and expansion. So, there is a lot of expansion, optimistic and
Shukra-driven, in the nativity.
Expansion
can be physical as in height or body-weight, but it can also be expansion of
market share or territory in the empire... it depends on lord Shukra, plus
house, plus drishti etc.
Examples:
Both Cindy Crawford (fashion model) and Brooke
Shields (model/actress) both have Guru + Rahu in Vrishabha (Taurus).
-
They are both exceptionally tall, exotically
attractive, (Rahu, Shukra) women. Cindy Crawford has Guru + Rahu in
domain-7 which casts drishti direct upon her physical body (lagna).
Cindy Crawford's Shukra occupies Makara, a notoriously good placement
for beautiful bone structure. Makara isn't about sex or mystery. It's
about status, profession, and hierarchies of money and power.
-
By comparison, Brooke Shields has Guru + Rahu +
Shukra + Budha + Ravi -- all in Vrishabha, and all in domain-8!! Guru +
Rahu for Brooke Shields does not cast drishti upon the physical body
lagna directly, but rather upon domains-12, 2, and 4 - with 2 being
the second marriage. The psychological complexities of Brooke Shields'
sensuality & personal life are well known.
Lord Shukra
For your own kundali, at this point, it is necessary to find Shukra and
determine Shukra's character. Only then is it possible to say what type of
behavior Rahu-Guru are engaged in. But one thing we do know: it's all about
sensual experience (food, sex, money, language, music, knowledge) and its
range of influence in the lifestyle is quite wide.
Chandra
Also evaluate Rahu + Guru's angle to Chandra. Chandra is the baseline for
all emotional relationships (parents, children, spouse, etc.)
-
If Rahu + Guru were e.g. in 7th-from-Chandra, the
first spouse might be rather full of oneself, rather generous, sensual
(rashi of Shukra), and likes mingling with foreigners (Rahu) and
breaking social taboo (Rahu).
-
If Rahu + Guru occupy 2nd-from-Chandra, those
characteristics belong to the second marriage partner.
-
Ninth-from-Soma = father.
-
4th-from-Soma = maternal grandmother.
-
Rahu + Guru would be a noticeable effect if the
father had it, or the mother's mother.
Find the relative indicated by the angle from the Moon, and think about
their character. That relative's behavior will give a good description of
the Rahu-Guru profile.
Use charts of Family members
One piece of advice for the beginner: when trying to figure out the
effect of yogas like Guru + Rahu, don't concentrate too much on one's own
personality as seen in one's own Jyotisha radix-navamsha.
It's hard to be objective about oneself. Trying to match one's own
supposed personality traits to the moving target of a chart that one doesn't
quite know how to read yet, is too vague a matching process to really start
to see the patterns.
Rather, work with your known relatives, including spouse( s) as counted
from Chandra lagna & too from radix rashi lagna. We tend to know our
relatives' personalities/traits pretty well, so they can provide lots of fun
data for matching.
Hope this helps toward your study of Jyotisha. It's detailed but really
rewarding to start to figure it out.
All the best,
Barbara Pijan Lama, Jyotisha
