Rahu in House 1-

Chandra + Rahu

"Desire for Extraordinary Personal Identity"

  • "Leapfrog" over the conventional path to privilege via  the physical appearance, particularly using demonstrations of competitive domination or sexual prowess

  • (esp when + Chandra) Urgent need to be perceived as desirable

  • Self-deception = projection of a fraudulent but desirable self-image (personality disorders)

  • Passion to challenge the conventional boundaries of personal identity and social ranking that were granted at birth

  • Daring and exciting "larger-than-life" personality often packaged with glamorous psycho-physical attributes

  • Hunger to Possess unique identity through presumptive entitlements.

  • Compulsively uses surreptitious or unconventional methods to obtain credibility in displays of physical glamour, energetic competition, and self-propelled empowerment

  • Affinity for the forbidden, off-limits, beyond limits, disallowed, improper; identified with international experience and ethnic mixing

  • The native is at birth unqualified for the desired privileges;

  • physical body appearance =the perfect disguise for invasive rakshasa Rahu

  • with Rahu in lagna, one born into even the most humble circumstances may attempt to slither or leap into the ranks of god-like desirability

We all have a little snake in us. The human body is designed upon a spinal model which is, at its genetic basis, a slithering bending hole-penetrating reptile.

Some are more reptilian than others. Rahu in 1 is quite snaky, often with hooded eyelids and a great taste for some type of forbidden nectar. (One appropriates the child of another, the spouse of another, the money of another, the home of another, the prestige of another etc.)

Rahu in 1 = the birth identity (via lagnesha, Chandra, other personality factors) is weakened by some type of cleverly masked abuse in the prenatal and childhood environment. One is encouraged or forced via conditions of birth to become someone "better" than one's own natural self.

Rahu in 1 = "Leapfrog" from the at-birth station in life to a higher level of privilege, using the vehicle of physical appearance

Psychology

With Rahu in 1, the native compensates for a profound sense of personal insufficiency by compulsive struggle to be desirable. Just being a simple, coherent single human person is not enough when Rahu occupies the house of core identity.

  • The early conditions of (well masked) abuse are so influential upon personality development that the native does not consciously remember one's natural personality; or in viewing one's relatively dull natural attributes physical and social, one may become filled with contempt or disgust for one's inborn insufficiency.

  • The channeled elements of appearance or appropriated attributes, while false, are much more satisfying. The native may alter the narrative of one's mundane upbringing to give the impression of higher or more interesting circumstances.

  • Caretakers who were vicious or vulgar may acquire a halo of nobility. The native dyes one's hair, changes one's name, speaks a new language, wears a new costume, moves to a new city, even surgically changes the body parts, as one adapts to a charismatic but false more-desirable, more-elite identity.

Self-deception

This native is never what one seems to be. However the native's consciousness is often completely co-opted by the infiltration of the hitch-hiking personality. One may be perpetually locked in a battle between the birth identity and the increasingly predatory claims of the interloping entity.

When Rahu occupies 1, there is a good opportunity for what modern western psychology calls "personality disorder" and its attendant reactive depression.

Normal people who interact with this native may begin to detect the presence of two persons in one body. One aspect of the personality is apparently glamorous, glittering, rich, accomplished, elite, or has some other super-desirable highly attractive quality which distinguishes the native from the undesirable commonplace Joe. The other is ... undesirable commonplace Joe.

  • Example: the unconventional and larger-than-life personality-aura of "Marilyn Monroe" vs. the conventional girl with an at-birth identity = "Norma Jean Mortensen".

Similar result from Rahu + Chandra, Rahu + lagna, and slightly lesser but still noticeable with Rahu + lagnesha.

Rahu in navamsha lagna enacts the amplification mandate = disregard for conventional boundaries or practices in marriage; Rahu in 7 give adventurous Rahu motive to the spouse.

  • E.g., Rahu in Makara (law, convention) navamsha, one may disregard the convention of getting legally married even while presenting a social image of reputable and respectable partnership.

During Rahu periods = Rahu mahadasha - Rahu bhukti = Rahu pratyantardasha

A surreptitious intruder or poseur enters the realm of the physical body-attributes and social-personality identity.

The goal of the interloper = to break limits and challenge assumptions. Often this person is a new partner who promises to help the native break through barriers of one's previous life and become a more powerful new entity.

One's passion for connecting to this enticing exotic agent is disruptive but exciting and each iteration breaks some limit upon how many and which type of socially classified attributes one is allowed to possess.

The native may enjoy considerable success in activities which involve surreptitious utilization of the personality attributes of another.

  • Rahu natives sometimes self-describe as "chameleon" -- the small reptile who changes its skin to mimic the color and light patterns of every new environment, in order to avoid detection

  • One may vigorously and dynamically "re-invent" oneself, taking on new appearances and behaviors in order to infiltrate customarily forbidden realms.

  • One emerges as an agent provocateur, disrupting the dullroutines of conventional order

  • A proclivity toward espionage and usurper of privilege become fully manifest

  • The method of masking one's true identity in order to appear more charming and more desirable to the legitimate tenants of the forbidden realm will involve a certain amount of trickery.

    That trickery includes self-deception.

    • One becomes increasingly convinced that one indeed was born into the higher realms

    • The focus on birthing the false self, and maintaining the fraudulent identity, is so intense under certain planetary configurations (e.g. Rahu's lord = uchcha) that one may develop narcissistic traits to the point of Narcissistic Personality Disorder

    • a new spouse or partner who enters the life at onset of Rahu period is typically under the impression that the false self promoted during Rahu period is indeed the native's true self.

    • Unless Guru also supports Rahu, the subsequent Guru period may signal a collapse of relationships built upon the premise of Rahu's false promises. (This is one of the reasons that marriages contracted during Rahu periods of any length are inherently problematic in the long term.)

  • The true laws of one's existence may be re-established during a subsequent Shani period

Rahu periods for Rahu in 1 + other graha

  • Rahu accepting drishti of Guru may, during Rahu period, enormously expand Rahu's quest to enter the highest ranks of social validation of the body-personality [Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth I, JFK, Jr., Benito Mussolini]

  • Rahu influenced by Shani by contrast experiences more constraint to the basic conditions of birth, and despite self-reinvention persists in a programme of diligent effort necessary to achieve material goals

  • Rahu + Mangala or receiving drishti of Kuja provides an engine of dynamic, aggressive, competitive energy which propels the native into the highest echelons of empowerment during Rahu period, and also during Mangala periods to a lesser extent. [George H. W. Bush "Sr.", Jack Welch]

  • Rahu the Appropriator claims the privilege and vitality of another's attribute-shell appearance and socially validated qualities.

  • Rahu the Trickster may presume entitlement to manifest the vital-force including the appearance, intelligence, voice and gestures of another. Rahu in 1 inhabits the personality of a predecessor .

  • One may be compelled to channel the persona of another entity. (Marilyn Monroe many times said that since childhood, it had been her ambition to she had been channeling the sultry but troubled actress Jean Harlow.)

  • Rahu the Rakshasa feeds upon chaotic and manipulative circumstances within the physical body and the social personality. The disruption begins at the time of conception, and typically the mother is upset throughout her pregnancy.

  • Rahu the Intruder disrupts the customary process of personality development, upsets the normal expression of the life force being sometimes too strong and sometimes too weak , and makes one privy to exotic and potentially dangerous self-concept . Self-importance swings between humiliating g shame and fabulous grandeur.

  • The native may be charismatically attractive, but one always wants the prohibited, the illicit, and the proscribed.

Rahu provides an extreme desire to possess the power to create a new entity, in one's own image , along with the urge to satisfy that desire at nearly any cost.

  • Rahu will break the death taboo.

  • Rahu does not mind killing people to reach a desired experience.Even vast numbers of people (Truman, Mussolini , George H. W. Bush). Rahu will destroy life on a scale proportional to the strength of His lord, if complete destruction of the Other (7) seems instrumentally necessary to achieve Rahu's goal of creation of the better and more powerful new personality.

  • Rahu in 1 = Ketu in 7. Rahu-1 tends to consume the life-force energy of the spouse, leaving the spouse in a weakened, apathetic, and socially marginalized position. The spouse may appear dull and uninteresting compared to the exciting, daring, scene-stealing Rahu-1 native.

Rahu's style of fulfilling His desires is largely determined by His planetary lord. Yet one distinctive feature of His activities is that they tend to involve deception and sneaking into forbidden places under false pretenses.

This person really wants to be special! May have been deprived of the mother's attention in childhood.

  • Lifelong craving for validation and recognition Of the exotic, unusually powerful, or extraordinary qualities in one's body image and one's social personality.

Rahu disrupts the customary methods of individual boundary marking And body-identity development.

Rahu destroys customary moral boundaries in the structure of the personality. One pursues each arising desire with intensity and passion. Utterly self-focused. Little sense of the impact of one's actions upon others. There is plenty of "pathos" but very little "empathy".

  • Due to the intensity of Rahu's craving to possess a person, an experience, or an empowerment, Rahu blunts the humane "sharing" sensibilities. The native with Rahu in lagna, particularly if Rahu is joined with a malefic, will struggle to comprehend the feelings of others. Rahu destabilizes compassion and replaces humane empathy with reactive reptilian desire.

  • All graha gain dignity in lagna, and Rahu is no exception. The native with Rahu in lagna is an extraordinary person who stands out from the crowd. The native is socially identified with foreign interests, the revolutionary underclass, mysterious or taboo behaviors, or a threat to order implied in catastrophic social changes.

  • Total result depends entirely on Rahu's lord and any grahas which may co-occupy the lagna. Rahu in lagna does not give Shukra's fair and balanced beauty. Rather, Rahu confers a sultry, smoky yet charismatic aura. The native is psychically hungry for empowerments Of every variety. One may be loved, or feared; admired or despised; to Rahu it does not matter the means - so long as the end is validation of personal power.

  • One seeks recognition and achievement, and is obsessively hungry for material-physical-sensual experience.

  • A karaka for promiscuity. Ketu will occupy domain-7 therefore the spouse is unsuitable or ambivalent, and the native feels detached or indifferent toward the marital alliance. Divorce is not implied, as apathy toward marriage is too strong to motivate finding a solution to the problem.

  • The native pursues each desire as it arises.

  • One is concerned only to attract validation for the personality, get attention, and empower the physical body. Should Shani influence Rahu, expect more self-deprivation and self-restraint according to social mores, but the apathy toward marriage alliance remains profound.

Native has an unusual individual identity. Craving to advance one's social position far beyond the rank into which one was born. Naga-energy in the personality makes one a bit of a poseur by nature. Shani + rahu in lagna = one who may downplay a commonplace upbringing, attempting to Appear more exotic.

One is strangely attractive; and prone to take risks in one's life (usually in order to gain attention or power).

  • If Shani is associated with Rahu in lagna, one takes are calculated risks with scarce resources, reduced by conservative fears; similar for Shani = lagnesha + Rahu

  • if Kuja is associated with Rahu in lagna, prone to adventure with physical risk; accidents; similar for Kuja = lagnesha + Rahu

  • if Chandra is associated with Rahu in lagna, prone to dramatic relationships with psycho-emotional risk; similar for Chandra = lagnesha + Rahu

  • if Shukra is associated with Rahu in lagna, the native is remarkably attractive but prone to sensual excess and financial risk; similar for Shukra = lagnesha + Rahu

Often the mark of high performance in the area of life controlled by Rahu's lord, due to b> Ambitious risk-taking. (However if Rahu's lord = neechcha, Rahu amplifies neechcha qualities which can lead those risks to fail.)

In psychic terms: if Rahu + malefics, the birth personality is conflicted. The birth itself is challenged. Native must struggle to enforce their right to life. Native 'sneaks in' to the conception in a surreptitious act: stealing their drop of amrita!

Oily or smoky Appearance.

  • For example, Elizabeth I, queen of England used an oily, lead-based cosmetic cover to hide the smallpox cavities on her face.

  • The native may favor oily grooming products such as hair cream or cosmetics

  • One may have a somewhat naturally oily and darker than average complexion if Rahu occupies a rashi of Guru or Mangala.

Das / Behari: says:

  • "... You make a great strides in life.

  • Gains honor, wealth and favor through religious, educational and scientific achievements.

  • Dominating personality; promising self-expression.

  • Gain and happiness through own initiative.

  • Slow to pick up new ideas. Averse to formal education.

  • Conqueror of enemies.

  • You make the glory and influence of other people an instrument of your own success

  • You can effectively utilize your own powers and wealth for yourself and others. Not being satisfied with your own spouse, you may wander.

  • Gains competence with the help of friends with effective grace. You are always ready for work.

  • You may have two marriages, and a charming spouse.

  • Quick to hold discussion. Lots of trouble and suffering. Bad qualities may surround you on many sides.

    "The Desire to Acquire"

    • Desire to penetrate the conventional boundaries protecting Stored Cultural Values and "treasury" Knowledge Traditions.

    • Hunger to Possess histories, wealth collections, and knowledge conserved in ancient languages

    • Compulsively Uses surreptitious or unconventional methods to obtain credibility in stories, accounts, collections of valuable books, art, music, language materials, all hoards of knowledge, banks, and accumulated wealth.

    • One pronounces the sounds of song and sermon (1-way delivery, not 2-way conversation) about taboo subjects, about wealth, about history, about language

    • The native may appropriate the language, knowledge, wealth, eyes, hair, or voice of another

    • One can "leapfrog" to wealthier status in finance, food, face, knowledge, and stored asset collections, often by "marrying up" (Sophia Loren, Michael Jackson, Johnny Cash, Katie Holmes)

    • Frequently forms an exotic wealth-or-knowledge increasing relationship with a married person. (Jiddu Krishnamurti, Martin Luther King, Jr.)) Such a married person is seeking a catalyst for divorce; the native serves as divorce-causing agent; one often becomes the subsequent spouse (Rush Limbaugh, Sophia Loren, Johnny Cash).

    • Karaka for channeling an unusual, desirable, pan class="style19"> charismatic voice in speech, song, and in the telling of tales, the "narrative voice" (MLKing, Rush Limbaugh, Stevie Nicks, John Lennon Beatle, Michael Jackson)

Rahu mahadasha - Rahu bhukti = Rahu pratyantardasha

    Agency

    • During periods of Rahu, a surreptitious intruder or poseur enters the family of origin or dramatically alters one's historical speech-song-voice-face lineage values.

    • The goal of the interloper is to break limits and challenge assumptions.

    • One's experience of this enticing exotic agent is disruptive but exciting and each iteration of Rahu breaks some limit upon how many and which type of sensual and financial values o one is allowed to possess.

    • OOften this agent claims entitlement to be recognized as a family or lineage member, as a second spouse.

    • The agent may be an enchanting foreigner who promises to help the native break through barriers and become a more powerful resource-storeholder.

    • This enticing exotic agent(s) is disruptive but exciting and each iteration of Rahu breaks some limit upon how many and which types of wealth and sense-pleasure one is allowed to possess.

    During Rahu periods

The 'leapfrog' capacity of face + voice is at a peak. Sudden access to a significantly higher level of wealth and privilege.

The native may enjoy considerable success in activities which involve surreptitious penetration of wealth-and-pleasure banks that contain stored values, historical knowledge, empowerment of speech and song, collections of money or art, food and drink reserves.

These hoards can be physical banks or memory banks.

    • One may intentionally re-value oneself, taking on an adaptive set of aesthetic behaviors in order to infiltrate customarily forbidden realms of wealth and knowledge.

    • One emerges as an agent provocateur, disrupting the dull routines of eating, drinking, money, and sensual pleasure of every variety.

    • Positive outcome: human eye-replacement surgery, human hair weaves, dramatic beautification surgeries after catastrophic disfigurement to the face utilizing body parts of another; use of " break-through" approach to acquisition t of beauty, wealth, or knowledge

    • A proclivity toward subterfuge and role of usurper of privileged access to wealth and pleasure

    • The method of masking one's true identity in order to appear more charming and more desirable to the legitimate tenants of the forbidden realm will involve a certain amount of trickery.

That trickery includes self-deception as well as pretending to others.

      • One becomes increasingly convinced that one is entitled to empowerments of family, face, and food

      • The focus on re-valuation is so intense under certain planetary configurations (e.g. Rahu's lord = uchcha) that one may develop a fixation upon gaining entry into a family (typically via marriage) or accessing a store of food, drink, lineage-values, or wealth pleasures.

      • a new spouse or partner who enters the life at onset of Rahu period is typically under the impression that the pretender-self promoted during Rahu period is indeed the native's true self.

    • The true laws of one's existence may be re-established during a subsequent Shani period

Rahu periods for Rahu in 2 + other graha

    • Rahu accepting drishti of Guru may, during Rahu period, enormously expand Rahu's quest to enter the highest worlds of voice-empowerment, wealth and knowledge [Mohamed Reza Pahlavi, Shah of Iran, Benazir Bhutto , Jiddu Krishnamurti, Michael Jackson, Rush Limbaugh, Stevie Nicks]

    • Unless Guru also supports Rahu, the subsequent Guru period may signal a collapse of relationships built upon the premise of Rahu's false aesthetic. (This is one of the reasons that marriages contracted during Rahu periods of any length are inherently problematic in the long term.)

    • If Rahu = yuti or receives drishti of Shani, then Shani periods will tend to bring the native back to the conventional permission levelsdespite Rahu's contradictory impulse to disregard the lawful limits on speech and wealth. (Internal conflict.) [Katie Holmes, William F. Buckley, Sophia Loren, Stevie Nicks]

    • Rahu influenced by Shani experiences more constraint to the basic conditions of family lineage, and despite self-reevaluation persists in a programme of diligent effort necessary to acquire a persuasive voice, wealth and knowledge

    • Rahu + Mangala or receiving drishti of Kuja provides an engine of dynamic, aggressive, competitive energy which propels the native into the highest echelons of voice-empowerment and knowledge during Rahu period, and also during Mangala periods to a lesser extent. [Mohamed Reza Pahlavi, Shah of Iran, Benazir Bhutto , John Lennon Beatle, Michael Jackson, Sophia Loren, Martin Luther King, Jr. ]

Lineage identity is based not upon physical appearance but upon historical knowledge of one's origins and values. Typically this lineage is delivered via the family lore, then supplemented by various karmic figures who bring in more strands of knowledge and access to different varieties of wealth and value within the lifespan.

Domain-2 = access to wealth. Rahu in 2 indicates access to wealth via various types of rule-breaking; and the limitation-breaking agents enter "stage left" with noticeable drama during Rahu periods.

Rahu's angle from the mahadasha-pati will predict who is most affected by the interloper. (e.g., Rahu = 3rd from mahadasha-pati, siblings most affected; 6th-from, enemies most affected; 9th-from, father most affected, etc.)

Les agents provocateurs represented by Rahu-2 = not necessarily an immoral influence. The agent desires to obtain privileged experiences by "leapfrog" without having followed the conventional proving steps toward social approval of "worthiness" (2, values, worth). Thus Rahu in 2 disturbs the existing order regarding:

    • existing wealth,

    • existing historical or linguistic knowledge

    • existing moral or aesthetic value systems,

    • existing collections of goods or ideas,

    • one's face, mouth, voice, hair, or eyes;

    • propriety of the circumstances of the second marriage

There is often a sudden change of lineage knowledge via the passion to connect with another person. introduction to another world of values and

Rahu provides an extreme desire to possess the power to accumulate hoards of treasure ( historical knowledge, works of art, and money ) along with the urge to satisfy that desire at nearly any cost.

    Rahu will break taboos against

    • Acquisition of historical knowledge and items of value by culturally unauthorized persons.

    • Acquisition of significant wealth by one with underclass, exotic, or illegitimate lineage ( Woods)

    • speaking truth to power; speaking or singing the stories of exotic cultures, or of the underclass (Limbaugh, King, Cash)

Rahu favors the use of deception and His style usually involves sneaking into forbidden places under culturally false pretenses.

    For example:

    • Martin Luther King, the scion of slaves, acquired a Ph.D. in theology from a top-ranked university which is normally the exclusive province of the cultural elite.

    • He then used these culturally pretentious credentials to speak truth to power (Rahu + Mangala in 2 = exceptionally powerful and direct speech).

    • Domain-2 is of course a house of death; his assassination was closely linked to his vociferous and adamant story-telling speeches.

    • Rahu the Rakshasa feeds upon chaotic and manipulative circumstances within the family of origin.

    • Rahu the Intruder disrupts the customary habits of food and drink, upsets the resource-savings programme, and makes one privy to exotic and potentially dangerous knowledge of (family) history and languages.

    Family of Origin

    • The family of origin may perceive the native to be a disruptive personality who is greedy for wealth.

    • Unstable family environment. The family of origin struggles with changing social-historical values. Often, the inherited moral and aesthetic values of the family of origin are challenged by large-scale, environmental upheaval in social values.

he ancient Chinese curse, "May you live in interesting times" applies to Rahu in dhana bhava. The native will realize that the lineage path of the ancestors cannot be unquestioningly followed.

Experimentation with exotic or forbidden values lends a fundamental instability to the native's family life.

Rahu periods may produce dramatic taboo behaviors such as death, and bringing Outsiders into the family.

When Rahu occupies death house-2, and Rahu occupies an unfavorable angle from the mahadasha pati, Rahu periods can give powerful maraka effects including sudden deaths within the family.

    Second marriage, exotic circumstances

    • Rahu in 2 increases the likelihood of a "leapfrog" second marriage to a cultural exotic, someone "off limits" because they are from a from a different age-group cohort or ethnicity (race-class-religion-ethnicity-complexion-socioeconomic-demographic-food group).

    • Native feels motivated by intense desire for aforbidden, or lineage-breaking partner.

    • The second spouse might look similar but behave unpredictably (Rahu) or the second spouse might look different as well.

    Example = Johnny Cash

    • in the early 1960's, the very-married singer Johnny Cash fell desperately but scandalously in love with the beautiful and very-married June Carter, an illicit mutual attraction made famous by the song "Ring of Fire" (uchcha Shukra + Rahu in 2)

    • Rahu crashed through the social limits of the day (Shani)

    • After the scandal subsided, the couple became even more famous, successful, and artistically productive.

    • Due to his Rahu + Shani in 2, Cash was also able to permanently break his negative family lineage (Shani) of self-medication with drugs and alcohol, repetitive violence, and chronic poverty

    Wealth and Storage

    • Increase of Burning hunger for accumulations of material wealth.

    • What is considered to be 'valuable' and worthy of accumulation by this native? Look to the lord off Rahu and also to Shukra, the karaka for wealth. If Shukra happens also to be Rahu's lord, the desire is highly focused on aesthetically material wealth rather than knowledge-wealth.

    • Can be a storage obsession : the native may develop of pattern of saving up memorabilia which has some taboo qualities.

    • The native can become quite wealthy according to Rahu's lord and co-tenants. Although the acquisitive behaviors can be erratic according to Rahu's changing desires, Rahu with any of the money lords (L-1, L-2, L-3, L-5, L-9, L-11) is hungry for accumulations.

When Rahu occupies domain-2, periods of the L-2 are much amplified, and during periods of L-2 the money accumulates with alacrity.

Although Rahu + Shani in domain-2 is a dysfunctional yoga ( = acquisitive desires in battle with fearful restraint) if Shani = an auspicious house lord, this yoga will provide steadier hoarding patterns with the wisdom of age.

From domain-2, Rahu casts drishti upon domain-6, 8, and 10. Knowledge-values collection includes exotic medicine (6), esoteric histories (8), and symbolic representations (10).

Speech and song, mouth and teeth

As the great taboo-breaker, Rahu destroys customary moral boundaries and behavioral consistency in the family of origin; in the hoarding and collecting process; in the historical knowledge, language, Opinions, speech And song.

The native may be a vigorously disruptive speaker/singer expressing the 'voice of the dispossessed' ( King, Limbaugh, Cash)

Rahu casts an exotic, exciting, sensually hungry, boundary-disrupting drishti upon:

    • domain-6 (medicine/servants/mother's relatives),

    • domain-8 (secrets/emergencies/inheritance)

    • domain-10 (leadership/reputation/public icon)

Rahu's influence upon any dusthamsha is helpful in breaking up tough karmic resistance. Rahu encourages risk, to the point of recklessness, yet Rahu can be a powerful helper in breaking up "stuck" karmic patterns.

Rahu disrupts the customary methods of values acquisition. The native hungers for many types of knowledge, and is unable to maintain a sustained focus on a single type for long enough to build a hoard of wealth or expertise.

The accumulative processes, including money savings, are erratic and unpredictable Along a roller-coaster pattern. Periods of Rahu are fiercely acquisitive, albeit the wealth source may be a taboo-breaker. If Rahu's lord is favorable, Rahu in domain-2 may signify great wealth acquired through personal risk or exotic association. Wealth may take the form of money, or knowledge, or both.

Typically the native will desire to acquire not only money, but also a comprehensive knowledge of history -- especially the "treasury" knowledge of the traditions of one's blood lineage. One hungers to know l Languages, esp. the most valuable languages e.g. the ancient and sacred tongues.

Rahu wishes to possess knowledge and material collections of art, music, jewels, money, and all beautiful and luxurious things (Shukra's house).

However Rahu's rampant desires are not satisfied with a single collection. The more Rahu learns, the more Rahu acquires, the more He craves the experience of acquiring further foods, monies, jewels, art, music, books, and other containers of sustaining knowledge. One acquired, the materials lose their fascination, and Rahu's hunger moves to new, related values.

The general range of collection types will be known according to Rahu's lord and Rahu's co-tenants.

Rahu in domain-2 = Karaka for two marriages.

    Rahu in 8th-from-7th:

    • The first spouse will be prone to sudden emergencies and "suffer from complex ailments which are difficult to diagnose" [[Behari's description of Rahu in domain-8].

    • First spouse has a hunger for secret, privileged information (8) and hidden financial operations [8]. First spouse maintains a hidden treasury.

Ketu occupies domain-8 from lagna = conventional marital project of acquiring joint assets and establishing a reserve of shared values = distant, disaffected, or detached.

Due partly to frustration with the secret-hiding behaviors in the first marriage, the native may desire to explore a second marriage. However the second marriage may be even more problematic since Rahu directly governs the social personality of the second spouse.

he second spouse will exhibit a remarkable hunger for acquisition of money and knowledge. This person feels that the common boundaries do not apply to his/her wealth entitlements. Rahu's "usurper" 'role in the house of lineage speech, song, and values suggests that the second spouse is perhaps

Excessive disregard of the common law will not be socially tolerated. If spouse-2 has experienced censure, this one may have an "outsider" complex based on desire-driven pretense to special privilege. The total nativity must be considered before making a final prediction, but generally when Rahu occupies domain-2, the second spouse has "outlaw" characteristics which flaunt the public values of discretion and taste.

    • (However spouse-2 may also have money, education, social rank etc. according to L-2 and any graha cohabiting Dhana bhava with Lord Rahu.)

Unusual or extreme expression of cultural values. Values are deeply influenced by foreign cultures and the native eats the foods of foreign lands.

    "What goes in the mouth"

Rahu in the rashi of a benefic can provide unusually high permission to eat and drink to excess.

    • If found in a nativity which has additional pointed to substance abuse such as Shukra or Guru in 6, the native's mouth may be wide open to an abundant stream of incoming nutrients.

    • Rahu is a poseur so these can easily be false nutrients such as poisons (if L-6 is also Rahu's lord) or alcohol (most commonly, Dennis Hopper) or other drugs ( Rush Limbaugh).

High permission to enjoy amplify the activities of the face and mouth. Attractive hair. High entitlement to eat and drink, speak and sing, as they please! Gives an intriguing, attractive, slightly exotic face.

Even very wealthy nativities will identify socially with the underclass or with a foreign culture. May be fluent in more than one cultural tradition, always hungry to sample more history, tradition, and value systems.

The native is plagued by unstable emotions throughout life, due to the childhood shocks and sudden changes. One expects dramatic interruptions of the family routine and indeed this pattern recurs with each Rahu period, when a fascinating new person or power needs to be integrated into one's family.

From domain-2, Rahu casts drishti upon domains 6, 8, and 10.

Depending on the occupants of those houses, the general prognosis is for magnification of values conflict or poverty involving foreigners, increased healing ability and access to confidential information (again involving underclass or foreigners) and in regard to domain-10, a career influenced by ability to interact with foreign cultural systems. The native will travel internationally in professional service

    "Desire to Deliver a Message"

    • "Leapfrog" over the conventional path to privilege via one's writings or self-owned commercial business, esp using skills of Conversation, Planning and Announcements

    • Desire to penetrate and upset the conventional integrity of daily Business-as-usual commerce

    • Disruption of scripted Communication Patterns ( interrupts habitual thoughts)

    • Hunger to Possess the Thoughts of others through special psychic-communication entitlements

    • Uses surreptitious or unconventional methods to obtain credibility in taboo topics of conversation and invasively interactive mental process

    • Will converse about what you *really* want to know! (Oprah Winfrey)

    • One can "leapfrog" to higher message-broadcasting status in media publications realms, often by "marrying up" (Catherine Zeta-Jones, Rudolf Steiner)

    • The native may appropriate the writings, thoughts, plans, schedules, calendars, itineraries, commercial business and administrative behaviors of another (channeled writings)

    • Karaka for channeling desirable, charismatic ideas in publications and announcement via writing, broadcast communications, and media production such as books, magazines, advertising posters, internet, radio, television, films, and music recordings etc

    • small groups composed of exotic, convention-challenging persons may carry out the message and the agenda via publications and correspondence of the like-minded (Rudolf Steiner, Josemaria Escriva de Balaguer , Karl Marx )

    • Rahu the Rakshasa feeds upon chaotic and manipulative circumstances within the sibling group, within the work-ensemble, within the internal mental narrative, and in the world of public communications.

    • Rahu the Intruder disrupts the customary habits of conversation, upsets the schedule of writing and publications, and makes one privy to exotic and possibly dangerous messages.

Rahu mahadasha - Rahu bhukti = Rahu pratyantardasha

During periods of Rahu, a surreptitious intruder or poseur enters the realm of the narrative mentality and sibling or team-mate interactions.

The goal of the interloper is to break limits and challenge assumptions. One's passion for connecting to this enticing exotic agent is disruptive but exciting and each iteration breaks some limit upon how many and which type of communications one is allowed to conduct.

Rahu provides an extreme desire to possess the power to communicate, publish, and announce. One generates exciting even outrageous information, along with the urge to satisfy that desire at nearly any cost.

Les agents provocateurs represented by Rahu-3 = not necessarily an immoral influence. The agentdesires to obtain privileged experiences by "leapfrog" without having followed the conventional proving steps toward social approval of "mentality" (3, mental process, narrative). Thus Rahu in 3 disturbs the existing orderly limits regarding:

    • sibling behavior (esp the immediate younger sibling)

    • publication of culturally un-appropriated information ( Larry King, Winfrey "confessional" TV-journalism).

    • reporting of the tales of the underclass, impoverished, estranged, or illegitimate persons

    • writing about or discussing matters of depression and mental disturbance ( Rudolf Steiner) , mental illness (masochism, Escriva de Balaguer )or mass fear (Franklin D. Roosevelt).

    • propaganda journalism ( Roosevelt, Castro)

    • un-appropriated or underclass gestures, proscribed functions of the hands ( Elvis Presley's undulating hips)

Rahu the Rogue favors the use of deception and His style usually involves sneaking into forbidden places under culturally false pretenses.

    • Example: Fidel Castro illegitimately seized all communications media. His self-declared authority was then successfully reinforced by intensive nationalistic propaganda. (Rahu's lord Budha in patriotic Karkata/4). At the end of his extraordinary dictatorial reign, Fidel Castro passed the wealth and power of his position directly to his brother (3) Raul Castro.

As the great taboo-breaker, Rahu destroys customary moral boundaries and behavioral consistency in the sibling group; in the communication processes; in the self-made wealth..

Rahu disrupts the customary methods of mental tasking and group communications.

Disruptive, exciting, sensually hungry drishti to

    • domain-7 (marriage/partners/agreements),

    • domain-9 (father /guru/ceremonial religion)

    • domain-11 (friends/income/goals)

Peculiarly intense and penetrating method of communicating with others. May be an excellent writer if L-5 and Budha are strong. Strange ideas. Challenges the conventional cultural styles of information management. Disrupts meetings, the information flow of work-group, team, or business department. A rather peculiar person to have in the office.

Great hunger to talk with foreigners and take short trips to exotic lands.

Can fabricate false stories for instrumental purposes, but is also a great short-story writer. Whether this mental attraction to extremes in storytelling is beneficial will depend on Rahu's lord.

oo exotic mentally for success in parochial business, but may succeed in international commerce.

    Mental health

    • Disruption to the conventional flow of daily thoughts. Invades the boundaries of others' thoughts. The inner personal narrative may be surging with hungry desire for sensual experience.

    • If Budha is involved with Rahu, the mental flow of daily thoughts and voices from past and present which rings in the heads of all humans, is a wild and exciting inner debate.

    (Younger) Siblings

    • The immediate younger sibling will become wealthy via foreign interests.

    • Communication flow with the siblings is intense, invasive and privileged, disrespectful of boundaries, challenging to personal integrity.

    • If Rahu = yuti malefics, the sibling's mental health may be an issue. Karaka for twin birth.

    Das / Behari: says:

    • ... causes trouble to siblings, but otherwise helpful in enabling you to acquire material conveniences.

    • You secure physical comforts, wealth, children, and a good spouse; you have many friends and may acquire expensive cars.

    • not bode well for the birth of children.

    • You are sharp, inclined to spiritualism or higher educational disciplines.

    • Good fortune and success through affectionate dealings, neighbors, journeys, writing or publishing.

    • Denotes bravery, courage, industry, fortune, wealth, state honor, health; with many friends; Travel, annihilator of the enemy.

    • Agricultural wealth.

    • Matchless in prowess. Strong, treats all as brethren. Fortunate. You are most lucky and extend friendship to all.

    • Least actively benevolent; toughest in most difficult work. Sleepless nights for the enemy; renowned; lives in luxury; trouble for brothers; wretched; Affluent; valiant. Artless; state authority; charitable; proud; firm minded; long living.

    • Rahu, in the third house, will make his brothers prosperous. "

    • Smoky, oily qualities in the communications behaviors.

    • Native may handle advertising for a fossil fuel concern, have a tendency to be metaphorically rather obscure or oily in the communicative style, or work with a press or media production machine which needs oiling.

    • One may need to "lubricate" the deal in business via bribery.

    Rahu in House 4

"Desire for Disruption of the Foundations"

    • "Leapfrog" over the conventional path to privilege via one's cultural foundations, owned property or vehicles, particularly via education in "roots" of a place and ethnic customs

    • Desire to challenge conventional boundaries of social security and cultural indoctrination

    • Desire to Possess cultural roots through special entitlements

    • Unusual conditions in schools, vehicles, lands and titled properties

    • exotic and unconventional expression of patriotism ; may hold multiple citizenship

    • The native may appropriate the mother, home, property, vehicle, license, deeds of title, customs, or schooling of another

    • One can "leapfrog" to higher ethnic belongingness status in patriotic, protective, and property-owning realms, often by forming an exotic relationship with a mother-figure.

    • Rahu-4 = Karaka for an ambitious mother and an international education; karaka for ancestral properties inherited from parents wherein the spirits of the ancestors are still very much possessing the lands and buildings; ghosts in the home (King Birendra, Emilio Pucci)

    • Rahu the Rakshasa feeds upon chaotic and manipulative circumstances within the world of parents, home and homeland, shelter and schooling.

    • Rahu the Intruder disrupts the national boundaries, causing the native to internationalize however uncomfortable that feels. One must make one's home amongst foreigners, mixing the habits of one's upbringing with strange new habits and customs. Exotic people enter the home.

    • Rahu disrupts customary habits of parenting, upsets the schedule of settled family life, and makes one privy to disturbing and possibly dangerous threats to national security.

Rahu provides an extreme desire to possess the power to secure ownership of lands, buildings, shelters, deeded properties, vehicles, along with the urge to satisfy that desire at nearly any cost.

Rahu will break taboos which normally would prevent:

    • extension of cultural legitimacy via schooling to underclass e.g. impoverished, enslaved ( Ammachi, Edward "Teddy" Kennedy )

    • extension of cultural legitimacy to foreigners, outcast or taboo ( Edward VIII, divorced American wife)

    • A nationally important native in a conservative society obtaining foreign education ( King Birendra )

    • granting educational legitimacy to exotic types of schooling and licensing (Ayurvedic medical education, exponent within conservative allopathic medical establishment = Deepak Chopra)

    • provocative challenges to the long-established roots customs of property ownership ( Emile Zola)

    • challenges "roots" culture (Edward VIII)

Much volatility of the national affiliation and ethnic identity. The homeland is tumultuous and there are pretenders to the throne. Rahu in 4 causes one to leave one's homeland in search of excitement, but also to be involved intrigue and subversive activities which upset the established order in one's own homeland.

    Example:

    • Emilio Pucci was involved in the fascist regime of Benito Mussolini. Having turned against the regime after initially supporting it, he rescued the wife and children of an anti-Mussolini officer and had the officer's subversive diaries published to bring embarrassment to the Axis powers. A very Rahu thing to do. And apparently, what caused Pucci to support a fascist regime in the first place was the great excitement (Rahu) of possibly realizing the Rahu-Kumbha vision of equitable distribution of wealth in a long-corrupt society.

    • Emile Zola chronicled the wild disorder of the French revolution = Rahu the Rule-breaker operating in the realm of the homeland, the nation-state

    • King Birendra of Nepal endured ten years of ongoing civil unrest and calls for revolution in his homeland before he was murdered in his own kitchen. Most observers believe he was murdered by agency of his brother, a pretender to the throne.

Rahu favors the use of deception and His style usually involves sneaking into forbidden places under culturally false pretenses.

    • E. g, Karl Marx came from a family of literate property owners and was an established householder with top academic credentials. Yet he felt called to represent the outcaste and disenfranchised, in order to and to challenge the customary limits upon which social classes can own property.

Smoky, oily qualities in the childhood home and one's regular place, such as coal-burning stoves or living in a neighborhood which suffers heavy industrial pollution (i.e., most large cities).

As the great taboo-breaker, Rahu destroys customary moral accountability and introduces unorthodox behaviors in the parents; in the childhood home; in property ownership, and in education.

Rahu disrupts the customary methods of defining property and imposing cultural indoctrination.

Associated with Land Reform movements and with patriotic cultural revolutions, "the loyal opposition". The native uses one's education toward taboo-challenging purposes.

Outsiders who are present in the childhood home create a peculiar and unstable or highly diverse upbringing, in which the natural repetition o familiar habits and customs is disrupted (e.g., foreign education) and child is not entirely secure.

he parents might abandon their own cultural roots e.g. the parents might change their religious affiliation so that the childhood home has a different culture than other homes in the extended family network, or perhaps the parents adopt a new ethnicity, nationality, or set of customs.

One may be perceived by others as a foreigner or somehow not quite properly or regularly culturally aligned. There may be a presence of foreign tradesmen, tutors, or dignitaries Or other exotic cultural influences in the childhood home.

The native may receive indoctrination amongst the underclass or in an exotic, ritually proscribed land. Unusual process of basic socialization and cultural education. May reject conventional education, preferring to carve a taboo-challenging path toward one's own cultural identity..

Excellent for a multi-cultural educator. Good for owning property in foreign lands. Can accumulate a massive amount of property if Rahu's lord is powerful (see Ammachi, King Birendra) but one does not directly own it. Drives a foreign car :)

Uses surreptitious or unconventional methods to obtain credibility inextremes in the world of real estate and education. Sudden changes of property ownership; damage to properties by natural catastrophe during Rahu periods.

Family lineage is complex and perhaps exaggerated. Irregularities in the transmission of the mother's culture. The person may create an exciting story of one's roots in a foreign land.

    Das / Behari: says:

Rahu in House 5 = political intelligence

    "Desire for Exotic Creativity"

    • "Leapfrog" over the conventional path to privilege via political  intelligence, theatrical genius, games and gambling, extraordinary confidence, or via one's children.

    • Desire to challenge conventional boundaries of creative intelligence, raising children, politics, speculation, and genius in performing arts

    • Hunger to Possess fame, celebrity, and hear the applause for one's individual intelligence

    • Although improperly qualified, one seeks privileged experience in courtly pastimes, poetry and literature, speculation, amusements and games

    • "leapfrogs" to celebrity status in theatre, politics, financial speculation, games, often by "marrying up" (Guy Ritchie)

    • bravado

    • One tends to disregard conventional limitations regarding production, acquisition, and raising of children

    • The native may appropriate the children of another

    • Children esp the eldest are unusual, often adopted ( Warren G. Harding, Ronald Reagan, Angelina Jolie, Guy Ritchie) or born under taboo circumstances ( Henry Ford, Steve Jobs, Napoleon Bonaparte). The Rahu child is desirable and attractive, but may be a channeler of alternative personalities per Rahu-1.

    • Rahu the Rakshasa feeds upon chaotic and manipulative circumstances within the realms of children, politics, creativity, literature, performance arts, theatre, speculation, and games.

    • Rahu the Intruder disregards the approved steps for generating children, upsets the schedule of theatrical performance art, and makes one privy to disturbing and possibly dangerous threats to national security.

    • Disrupts the predictability or poses legitimacy questions in regard to: the spouse's earnings (5 = 11th-from-7)

Rahu mahadasha - Rahu bhukti = Rahu pratyantardasha

During periods of Rahu, a surreptitious intruder or poseur enters the realm of shelter and foundations and caretaking interactions.

The goal of the interloper is to break limits and challenge assumptions.

One's passion for connecting to this enticing exotic agent is disruptive but exciting and each iteration breaks some limit upon how many and which types of roots one is allowed to grow.

Rahu the Rogue provides an extreme desire to obtain political celebrity and to receive applause for brilliant performance, along with the urge to satisfy that desire at nearly any cost.

Les agents provocateurs represented by Rahu-5 = not necessarily an immoral influence. The agent desires to obtain privileged experiences by "leapfrog" without having followed the conventional proving steps toward social approval of "creativity" (5, intelligence, genius, children).

Thus Rahu in 5 disturbs the existing orderly limits regarding:

    • "showing off" = bravado = native may usurp "center-stage" attention in a surreptitious fashion by pretending to have more political credibility than one really has. (Examples of quick-rise to politically central positions on the basis of spotty, unrelated or unproven background = Lee Iacocca, Tony Blair , Ronald Reagan, Warren G. Harding )

    • children = one may enjoy parenting children from any origins, including step-children from the spouse's previous marriages (Warren G. Harding) or offspring of multiple marriages (Jobs), multi-racial (Quincy Jones) or foreign adoption from mixed ethnicities (Angelina Jolie)

    • conditions of the birth or adoption of the first child are likely to cross cultural barriers in some fashion, for example a single-parent adoption (Jolie) or a child born out of wedlock (Jobs, Guy Ritchie )

    • The birth of children becomes politicized (Napoleon) or one becomes a voice in the politics of children's welfare (Angelina Jolie).

    • exotic or unusual conditions of political career (Tony Blair very young; Ronald Reagan actor with no political background)

    • romance = frequent and passionate

Rahu favors the use of deception and His style usually involves sneaking into forbidden places under culturally false pretenses.

As the great taboo-breaker, Rahu destroys customary moral boundaries and behavioral consistency in the children; in the literary and creative genius; in the politics, theatre, contests, games, and displays of intelligence

Rahu disrupts the customary methods of raising children and expressing individual creativity.

Can be an indication of celebrity, if Rahu's dispositor is favorable.

Underclass, exotic, or taboo attributes of the children. Heart trouble for the native.

    • Rahu in a rashi of Shani may deny children entirely.

    • Rahu in rashi of Budha, children arrive under peculiar circumstances (illegitimacy, commercial adoption, children of distant relatives thrice removed).

    • Rahu in other rashis may give large numbers of children, or a child of remarkable, outstanding talent.

Only the bhava lord can determine whether the native can raise these unusual children, or whether the kids will be raised by others (servants, ex-spouses, etc.)

Expansive but unstable desire for children, which may be thwarted due to psychic fluctuations and inconsistency of purpose. Fascination with celebrity and political power. Excited by expressions of individual genius and by "winning".

Otherwise, peculiar circumstances surrounding the conception and development of children. Depending on the rashi, the child may become famous or distinguished in its own culture.

Always something unusual in the circumstances of conceiving the first child. Frequently an indicator of foreign adoption. Can signify adopting or raising one's grandchildren because one's own children have an irregular lifestyle.

    • Watch out for your own difficulties with the heart and lungs.

    • You will probably have at least one son.

    • You worry much, and have few friends.

    • Your first child may pose some difficulty.

Rahu mahadasha - Rahu bhukti = Rahu pratyantardasha

During periods of Rahu, a surreptitious intruder or poseur enters the realm of conflicts and disagreements and exploitive interactions.

    • The goal of the interloper is to break limits and challenge assumptions about the normal stepwise path of the normal stepwise path of disagreement and conflict .

Rahu the Rogue provides an extreme desire to strong>engage in conflict and to blame others for inability to reach agreement, along with the urge to satisfy that desire at nearly any cost.

Les agents provocateurs represented by Rahu-6 = not necessarily an immoral influence. The agent desires to obtain privileged experiences by "leapfrog" without having followed the conventional proving steps toward social approval of "inequity" (6, servitude, ministry of service).

Thus Rahu in 6 disturbs the existing orderly limits regarding:

    • unlimited engagement with conflict and exploitation. A CONSCIOUS AND WELL-PREPARED person may undertake significant confrontation with the forces of poverty and disease (world charities of Bill Gates)

    • constant and compulsive interior argument with amplified blaming behaviors ( Indira Gandhi)

    • Although one will in all likelihood triumph over all of them and being a natural blame-maker one may not feel in the least intimidated; still, there is no limit on the quantity and fierceness of one's enemies in this life ( Indira Gandhi, Bill Gates)

    • no limit on exotic servants and animal pets; one may have a private zoo, a horse farm teeming with critters, or a large number of servants and employees from many lands

    • if with Shukra, unlimited addictions to multiple substance and experiences ( Elizabeth Taylor, Indira Gandhi) a great love of servants and pets; and a special pattern of arguing with women; extremely difficult to maintain a marriage commitment

Rahu favors the use of deception and His style usually involves sneaking into forbidden places under culturally false pretenses.

As the great taboo-breaker, Rahu destroys customary moral boundaries and behavioral consistency in the workplace and amongst employees; in the practice of medicine and ministries of service; in the mother's relatives.

Rahu disrupts the customary methods of performing one's service and managing conflict.

Generally when a papa-graha (malefic) occupies a dusthamsha, the results are surprisingly good. The native 's strongest desires are focused in the area of "loss of agreement", i.e. fighting, but one does not run from the challenge. Rather, a deep and sustained engagement, driven by the desire to obtain power in the workplace, often produces expertise and profit.

Rahu in domain-6 gives a "mixed bag" of benefits and liabilities amongst employees and in one's material workplace.

Numerous Agents of social conflict such as police, military, underclass, outcast, foreigners, manipulators, thieves, thugs, liars, physicians, drug dealers, prostitutes, poseurs, and usurers will populate the stage in this theatre of life.

If Rahu's lord is auspicious, one may enjoy a profit from dealing with these otherwise undesirable effects. For example, the native may work in criminal justice, loan finance, or import-export of exotic and desirable items. There will be some criminal undertone to the dealing but the native may be clever enough to manipulate through it.

No matter how successfully this situation is managed, the native must learn to manipulate the manipulators.

There will be considerable illness from toxicity, often psycho-mental in origin, and danger from wrong drugs.

In case of severe illness, the native may find remarkable cures from alternative treatments, or in a foreign land.

Smoky, oily qualities in the workplace. Servants are outsiders of a darker, oilier complexion. Trouble through hazy, smoky behaviors. Illicit undertakings; illegitimate association with the criminal classes, behind a smokescreen which obscures the real goings on. Illness from toxic chemicals in smoke, especially petroleum or other oil-related. Foreign medical practitioners and going to war in a foreign land. he oily smoke of battle.

    • Compulsively attracted (Rahu) to situations of fraudulent negotiation (7) [J K Onassis cut from inheritance from 2nd husband], attempted re-balance (7), annihilation or impending death (7)

    • Often an unusual first marriage, first spouse has convention-disregarding, taboo-breaking qualities [e.g., J K Onassis's first husband JFK was the first Roman Catholic president of USA]

    • The spouse may disregard the legal conditions or emotional trust of marriage

    • The native may appropriate the marital privileges of another

    • One can "leapfrog" to higher alliance status in realms of union, contract, and partnership, often by "marrying up" (Jennifer Aniston, Marla Maples Trump, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis)

    • Because Rahu in 7 disregards marriage conventions according to which one should marry an equal of similar background and habits, amongst the very spiritually inclined Rahu can also create a very exotic marriage between a human and a deity = H.H. Dalai Lama/a> , Mother Teresa

Les agents provocateurs represented by Rahu-7 = not necessarily an immoral influence. The agent desires to obtain privileged experiences by "leapfrog" without having followed the conventional proving steps toward social approval of "parity" (7 = matching, partnership, pairs).

Thus Rahu in 7 disturbs the existing orderly limits regarding:

    • contracts and agreements, mutual interest and equity

    • negotiations and brokerage, mediation and resolution in the law court

    • graciousness and diplomacy, advising and counseling

    • weighting and balance

    • fairness and justice, attorneys and judges

    • marriage and peer-to-peer unions

May have an exotic or taboo-breaking attitude toward sexual partnership. Menstrual problems for women. Diabetic or other paired-organ imbalance. The spouse is unwilling to enter alliance, or spouse has very peculiar sensual tastes, and sexual harmony in marriage is deranged.

    • Ketu in lagna = karaka for apathy toward life. Despite private relationship troubles, the native may appear to be very pure.

    • Rahu/7 could indicate that the primary marriage partner is actually a deity not a human. Deities, who have no material property interests, are permitted to be promiscuous.

    • If the partner is human, predict trouble from unfaithfulness to the exclusivity contract. Human spouse, if any, may be a force of desire to access unearned privileges, . Perpetual sexual imbalance in the marriage.

Foreign, exotic, or taboo-breaking attributes of the spouse. Marriage represents entitlement to satisfy a personal desire at the expense of social conformity.

Spouse and the native may be externally successful in worldly life, but the spouses boundary-breaking excesses or foreign behaviors are a permanent source of instability and challenge in the native's life. Spouse is inappropriate.

    • If Rahu + Shani, spouse is withholding.

    • If Rahu + Kuja, spousal passion is excessive, may be uncontainable.

Rahu in domain-7 is excellent for international business negotiations; spouse's diplomatic capabilities with foreigners is an asset. Spouse from a different cultural background, or was born geographically a long distance away from the birth place of the native.

Also good for careers in counseling/advising in multi-cultural and socially taboo-content relationships.

Smoky, oily qualities of the spouse. Unclear or hazy manipulations in the marriage contract. Spouse of outsider origin or spouse is a poseur.

Rahu-7: Marriage Contract = the Perfect Disguise

    Rahu-Kanya-7
Recently I have seen three nativities with Rahu-Kanya-7 that corresponded to life stories involving the recently labeled cultural phenomenon "living on the DL". Two were wives of DL men and one case was a DL male native.
Kanya = the unmarried virgin. Kanya = domain-6 = dissolution of the marriage agreement.
Kanya signifies being un-yoked, not under contract, unmarried. Jyotisha literature often refers to Kanya as an unmarried female, but Kanya ruled by genderless (or eunuch) Budha really has no gender. The Latinate term "Virgo" comes from the IE root "wi-ro" meaning 'man' or 'human', which later develops into words like "virile", "virtue", "world" [wir-alt], and even "were-wolf". Linguistically it can be seen that Kanya refers to both unmarried men and unmarried women.

DL = "down low". DL = a historic but only recently labeled-as-such lifestyle whereby a man, for his own reasons, maintains two sexual lives. His public life is shown to his parents, his extended family, and his official community including his religious affiliations and professional employment. The native's primary identity is is validated by a heterosexual marriage with wife and family, and willing participation in traditional straight men's clubs, church, sports, etc. The native appears to be handsome, successful, and "very married".
Under this convincing disguise, (Rahu) the native also operates a second, homosexual lifestyle. The native may socialize and mate within a different "loka" (world) = a location that is proximate to but not culturally connected with the people or activities of the main identity. Often, this loka = smoky rooms in underclass parts of town. In these outcast environments, men cavort with other men. They pretend as if they are not married.
Men living a DL lifestyle share a relationship bond (7) of protecting each other's disguised identities. The mutual fraud is considered a bond of honor which allows participants to continue to enjoy the high regard of their ethnic community, while also pursuing the experience of intensely erotic, dangerous, and forbidden desires. When in public settings, they refrain from showing the traits that would reveal the nature of their alternative (Rahu) mating (7) behaviors.
Frequently the DL man is a model husband and father. Sexual relations in marriage may seem somewhat distant or distracted, and the man may have some unexplained absences, but in general a Rahu-Kanya in domain-7 has composed a functional and effective argument (Kanya) which successfully rationalizes the rakshasic (Rahu) behavior.

The wife, even if she finds out, may choose not to expose the fraud. Thus the Rahu-Kanya-7 combination is known for marriage partners sharing a secret that they cannot disclose to others.

    Das / Behari: says:

    • Luck through sinful acts. Success through speculation, lottery and game of chance or races. Infection through impure mates. Wicked. More friends than enemies.

    • Gain through dealing with others. Pleasure and benefit through mates. A wise and wealthy partner; gain after marriage. Short-statured.

    • This Rahu is not a killer; but can cause danger to the people indicated by the house."

    • Hunger to Possess forensic knowledge and tantric mysteries

    • Uses surreptitious or unconventional methods to obtain credibility in situations of catastrophic change, radical healing, emergencies, interventions and "break-ins" ( Richard Nixon), and the conditions of death and rebirth

    • Winston Churchill was privy to some errifying war secrets (Rahu-Mesha-8) including the specter of the annihilation of the free (Mesha) world by the self-power-crazed tyrants Hitler and Stalin (Mesha, megalomania). With Rahu's lord Mangala in lagna, he was forced to plead for help (Kanya) from secret alliances (8). He had a passion for hidden danger naturally with L-8 and Rahu's lord Kuja in lagna and traveled the world to write argumentative accounts (Kanya) of war.

Rahu is beneficial in domain-8, but only for magical or tantric healings, such as surgery, and emergency intervention. Rahu in domain-8 may bring inherited wealth, and surprisingly broad access to privileged information. Much hidden interaction with foreigners, exotic and secret world-power lineages (if in a regal sign) and a great attraction to situations involving catastrophic, forced, and sudden changes.

As the great taboo-breaker, Rahu destroys customary moral boundaries and introduces unorthodox behaviors in the father; in the religious teachers; and in the belief system.

At the basis of this placement is an unusual father. (In 9th-from-Chandra, agent = the father or the mother's father.)

The father (or other significator agent) has "leapfrogged" over the typical social credentialing process in order to acquire higher status. The vehicle of empowerment for Rahu in 9 = religiosity. The father, and the native after him, may demonstrate remarkable piety which is nonetheless appropriated or mimicked rather than earned through personal wisdom. Fraudulent moral preaching, fraudulent university teaching, and fraudulent status as a religious icon may result..

The native may adhere to a set of unorthodox religious teachings, become a preacher or high teacher,

Les agents provocateurs represented by Rahu-9 = not necessarily an immoral influence. The agent desires to obtain privileged experiences by "leapfrog" without having followed the conventional proving steps toward social approval of "piety" (9, ritual religion, wisdom teachings).

    • ritual performance, priestly duties, celebration of liturgy

    • wisdom teaching

    • matters of university culture; academic acceptance of research findings;

    Example

    • Lisa Marie Presley's father Elvis Presley was an unusual man in many ways, particularly in his expressions of deep religious piety mixed with overt and covert sexuality and mixed racial traditions.

    • Father Presley is revered as a religious icon by many in the American South.

    • Ms Presley herself subscribes to an unorthodox religion the credentials of which are widely questioned.

    • Charles Manson = 'father' and religious leader of the Manson Family murder cult. Despite a sentence of life imprisonment for a series of gruesome ritual murders,

High desire for intense experience in religious ritual and belief systems. Often has a foreign or outsider guru.

Not beneficial for the Father, who is associated with profligacy, underclass behaviors, or risky foreign undertakings. Father may be involved in espionage or manipulation of foreign governments; or a cult priest; or other surreptitious Taboo-breaking roles. The guru may be a renegade anti-traditionalist.

Native tends toward extremes in ceremonial religion, with powerful desire to re-interpret or re-appropriate religious systems. Wants to make changes in the existing temples of knowledge and their priesthood.

If Rahu is ill-disposed, may desecrate temples of knowledge.

Oily smoky things in the house of worship. This is nearly always incense.

But there can be destructive or deceptive oil smoke here too, such as coal-burning or wood-burning stoves for heat in the temple, the film from which can mar the beauty of religious icons and cast a pall of gloom over the holy place.

Also, priestly poseurs and those with desire to perform sacred ritual without legitimacy; foreign or outsider priests; forbidden religions.

    Das / Behari: says:

    • "The nodes of the Moon have supreme importance in spiritual evolution. Rahu, the material polarity of the shadowy Nodes, akes you to sacred places, associate you with spiritual aspirants, and make you a partner in spiritual celebrations and observances.

    • Preparing you in this way to receive the influence of the divine, Rahu equips you for this. You are A scholar; accredited for virtues; impressive in speech in an assembly; cultured and humane; veneration, belief and devotion in gods and sacred places.

    • Grateful; upbringing your own family. You are revered for your merit; learned; generous. You give away useful things in charity; never leaving a job in the middle, perseverance; virtuous; keeping the family tradition; spotless reputation. Helps and supports relatives; contented with the partner. Attendants.

    • Affluent landlord and agriculturist. [cf. Rabindranath Tagore]

    • You show faith in religions other than your own. Loss of wealth. Want of truth, conduct, luck and wisdom. Much traveling, pauper, unfriendly to relatives, some physical ailment. Low, mean, shabby and afraid of enemies. Wicked. Hostile. A town leader. Vicious. Serving others and sex with low-class persons.

    • You have many attendants, prosperous, fortunate, little faith in false religion, poor health, eloquent speaker, agreeable and cordial with the partner, affectionate, childless, proud of your community, liar, speaks ill of false religion and unmindful of your duty. • Baba Ram Dass was a highly visible spiritual  teacher who broke the taboo on public homosexuality, causing a breakdown of prejudice in Anglosphere new age spiritual communities

      • Katharine Hepburn openly conducted a "soulmate" love partnership with a married man (Spencer Tracy) who would not divorce due to his (R. Catholic) religious beliefs, opening a major social discussion about the gap between love and marriage

      • Hugh Hefner  similarly broke the taboo upon nudity and bachelor-promiscuity initiating major changes in law and social policy

    Das / Behari: says:

    • "Your mission in life is for furthering some special cause in the world.

    • Depending on your status in society and the planetary combinations, this special mission may be predicted; but the real impulse of this shadowy planet will be to make you dedicated to a cause which you will want to carry forward even at the risk of life, status, or health.

    • Undaunted by any difficulty, undeterred by any impediment, you will persist with a sense of dedication, whether you are waging a war of complete annihilation, reconstructing a social order, or composing verses of celestial beauty and harmony.

    • Rahu achieves its objective despite whatever hardships it has to undergo. Its impulse produces persons of great merit, devotion, and religious susceptibilities.

Bush-43 = Rahu-Vrishabha-11 = extraordinary sources of high income) = close friends with the Saudi royal family. Swami Vivekananda  received missionary funding from predominantly foreign donors, most of whom were practicing white Anglicans.)

    • One's passion for connecting to this enticing exotic agent is disruptive but exciting and each iteration breaks some limit upon how many and which type of networks one is allowed to join.

As the great disturber of habitual order, Rahu destroys customary moral accountability in the marketplace. Under pretense Of "laissez faire" economics or some other philosophy of freedom from legislation (Rahu = anti-Shani), any sort of exotic or illicit practice is accepted in marketplace networks. [UK- Queen Victoria I, USA Pres. 43 George W. Bush].

Behavioral rule-breaking such as intrusiveness in the elder sibling Or father's younger brother; in the marketplace and its rules; andin process of setting and achieving goals.

Rahu disrupts the customary methods of large-group networking and voluntary, profitable associations.

One's passion for connecting to this enticing exotic agent is disruptive but exciting and each iteration breaks some limit upon how many and which type of fantasies one is allowed to develop.

As the great taboo-breaker, Rahu destroys customary moral boundaries and behavioral consistency in the Ashram, hospital, or sanctuary; in the meditation and private prayer; andin foreign lands.

    • Rahu disrupts the customary dividing walls surrounding private enclosures And Rahu interferes with the process of separating dream world fantasy from the material world reality..

    • One's private world of dreams and fantasies is forever churning and trying to merge with the imaginations of others, or invade the boundaries of others' private enclosures.

    • If Rahu's lord is auspicious, wonderful dreams will fuel a rich fantasy life. If Rahu's lord is inauspicious, 'nightmares' disrupt the native's peace of mind.

    • Karma of desire-driven, involuntary loss of identity and imprisonment during Rahu periods ( Martha Stewart).

    • Power to stimulate the imaginative fantasies of others. Power to exhume, unearth, or excavate deeply buried subconscious desires.

    • May be engaged in boundary-challenging research in library, laboratory, or field work in foreign lands.

    • Can change one's identity by traveling to a foreign land (Thomas Merton, Arnold Schwarzenegger). Likes to lose one personality identity and gain another, perhaps several times during the lifetime. Enjoys the role of "outsider".

Smoky, oily things in the meditation hall, the hospital room, the healing spa, and the bedroom.

Dissolution of the identity caused by hazy, Clandestine dealings with social outsiders, in a foreign land.

Sexually, Rahu may introduce "strange bedfellows". Native enjoys desire for exotic association in the bedroom and taboo bed pleasures. The native may possess a vivid and passionate fantasy life. Rahu reduces the boundary between the dream world and the real world.

    • Desires to retreat from the fixed conventional identity of one's upbringing.

    • Depending on other graha in domain-12 and Rahu's lord, can lead to a lifetime of world travel, meditation and prayer, espionage, "under the table" transactions, or drug addiction.

Traditionally, any malefic in 12 should give trouble with the left eye. Rahu may give an eye-disease condition which has the potential for disruptive healing through exotic medical treatment.

Adventure involving foreign operators and underclass dealings.

    • If Rahu's lord is auspicious, favors extraordinary break-throughs in hospital work or private residential treatment centers. Healing spas in foreign lands.

Does not respect ethnic and religious customary limits. From domain-12, Rahu casts taboo-challenging drishti upon domain-4 (home and country), domain-6 (servitude and animals), and domain-8 (sudden, forced changes; secret information).

    • For example, Martha Stewart went to prison in Rahu mahadasha, bhukti of Shukra = L-8.

Rahu must be carefully examined to see whether the total effect is sattvic or . It can go either way.

    Das / Behari: says:

    • "Rahu in this Twelfth house of redemption makes the physical life difficult and upsets all established order.

    • he expected course of life is not followed and you are forced to adopt a way of life in which there is much suffering, physical debility and psychological helplessness.

    • Your movement is restricted; mental anguish often becomes acute. But the ordeals of life caused by Rahu provide you with the celestial nectar. After a big psychological purging, you receive a spiritual bath and are anointed into the secret mysteries of life.

      • From the material standpoint, Rahu in the Twelfth house is considered inauspicious, suggesting that the purging operation manifests through immoral acts and unfortunate events. In the ordeal of the spiritual path, such difficulties are necessary.

    • Rahu functions as a karmic agent, producing trials so that the latent spirituality which is the true influence of the Twelfth house may emerge. You are miserable; sharp pain in ribs. However hard you may work, you do not get any success or gain, rather suffers losses. Friend of the wicked and enemy of the good.

    • At last you succeed in your desires and ambitions.

      • You are very humble; suffer from acute bilious pain in the chest and heart. With best effort you cannot modify your early life; the latter is most fruitful. A friend of the knave and enemy of the noble.

      • You are quarrelsome, idle, a debtor, cunning, immodest, rich, benevolent, ailment of the eyes, wound in feet, a slur on the family, wastes away your time and energy; can meet your demand if you stays in one place.

    • Much traveling, separation from spouse and family, ugly and shabby. Dropsy [oedema]. Robbed by lowly tribals. Separation of maternal uncle; repents after losing temper. You are inert, weak, hostile to relatives, cheat, ill-spent money.

    • You are very handsome, prosperous but ophthalmia or iritis. Few sons; vicious; pain, trouble, punishment are indicated .

    • his Rahu denotes gain through social affairs; good for spiritualism; birth unnatural."

    Q: Hi Barbara,

The query was about this detail : Under the House 9 rahu, this says in the 4th line of the second last paragraph.

"A town leader. Vicious. Serving others and sex with low-class persons." What does low-class person mean here? Thanks in Advance,

    A: Namaste -- Great question!

The quotation marks and italics indicate that those paragraphs are a quotation, not my own writing.

Bepin Behari's books, along with English translations from various Jyotisha classic commentaries. This particular item "sex with low-class persons" could be an English translation from Parashara or Jaimini or another authority. Unfortunately I don't know the original source of the phrase. (Das might know.)

As a result of literary synthesis, the paragraphs contain some cryptic references like "sex with low-class persons". This outcome is not a fixed prediction but rather it *could be* the Rahu outcome under certain circumstances.

The "could be under particular circumstance "introduction to phrases such as "sex with low-class persons" is usually left out of word-for-word English translations from the Sanskrit shlokas. The pattern of the shlokas contains a rhetorically implicit unwritten subject. Unfortunately, in the direct translation, all we get is the fragmented phrase; the subject was not written so it is not translated. That's one of the big problems with word-for-word translations - a lot of meaning can get left out!

So .... we have to think backwards, and fill in the missing pieces . What would be the circumstances under which Rahu in 9 might produce such an outcome? And who are the "low class" persons?
Let's try this approach to discovery:

In Jyotisha, Rahu is famously a malefic graha (although He is fun sometimes); naturally, it is inauspicious to have a papa-graha in the maha-subha-sthana.

From a non-egalitarian perspective "low-class" is an attribute of Kumbha, and lord Shani, associated with the masses. Rahu and Shani are the co-lords of Kumbha. Kumbha really includes everyone, since Kumbha represents networks, and everyone is eventually connected to everyone else. Kumbha represents the common humanity.

Yet, outside the equalizing worlds of Mithuna/Thula/Kumbha , the world can be divided into hierarchical classes, and the great masses of workers, who form the big solid base of the hierarchy, then become "low class".

So, what does "low-class" mean re: Rahu/9?

My guess is, here is only a low class if there is also a high class . In domain-11, there really is not any "upstairs-downstairs". Kumbha = "large, rule-driven systems". Domain-11 = a huge, regulated, integrated network of persons, ideas, or devices (e.g., computers) e.g. a marketplace or a voting assembly.
Does domain-9 have a high class to distinguish from a low class? I think it does. Dharma bhava is explicitly not a house of the common person. It is an elite house, he domain of wisdom-teachings, the religious knowers, universities, temples, priests, philosophy teachers. Also 9 is associated with divine favor which can bring vast amounts of wealth.

Also, dharma bhava is the highest point on the mountain from which humans may communicate to the divine. Therefore, it is inauspicious to have low or flat things (Shani-Rahu, Kumbha) in the "high place" domain-9.

Rahu can bring exotic attractions (notably, sexual) into whatever bhava He occupies. Rahu's job is to fan the flames of unsatisfied desires. So, if Rahu represents taboo-breaking passions and Rahu the co-lord of "commoners" (Kumbha) occurs in the bhava of the patrician wisdom class, there could be some problem of culturally inappropriate passions involving the plebian classes for sure.

It's just a "could be" of course since another moral agency within the nativity (Shani, Surya, even Budha can be moral actors) could easily restrain the native from acting on Rahu's impulsive desires.
It might be that the outcome is strictly doctrinal, e.g. the native Uses surreptitious or unconventional methods to obtain credibility inforeign religious beliefs or exotic philosophical knowledge .. The religious teachers can be quite extraordinary in character - for example, one of Paramahamsha Yogananda's teachers was the famous 500+ year old Guru Babaji, who certainly breaks cultural expectations of chronological longevity.
Yet even if the actual outcome is quite reserved, manifesting only on the most rarified planes of perception: when Rahu occupies dharma bhava, the impulse to challenge cultural boundaries would always influence the ninth house.

That's my estimation of what it means. But don't take my word for it! Please be encouraged to examine the nativities of known people (celebrities, family members) who have Rahu/9 in either radix or navamsha, to see whether such a phrase and quot;sex with low-class persons" makes sense in their genuine material lives. As Shri B.V. Raman often said, the principles of Jyotisha must be able to withstand application to real lives.

The researcher may find that often, the "sex" is more of a mental congress, not so much physical, rather an interest in "unconventional" philosophies, which may become path-breaking and extraordinary e.g. Guru Paramahamsa Yogananda. I have seen a chart of Yogananda's guru Shri Swami Yukteshwar which also features Rahu/9. In their day, they both had quite radical views of religious truth and were somewhat offensive to "high-minded" conventionally religious pundits.

And of course, everything depends on the condition of a graha who is Rahu's lord. In the 9th navamsha, the behavior might manifest more through the person's spouse; even in radix, the behavior might emerge more through one's father than through one's own life./p>

Best wishes for your success in Jyotisha studies,

    Sincerely,

    Barbara Pijan Lama, Jyotisha

Q: Madame, I am a bachelor scientist still seeking my bride. At nearly 30 years of age, I feel ready to undertake the quest for a life-partner, a woman, who can complete me. However, with Rahu in my first house of the kundali, I am worried. I've read some frightening predictions about Ketu in the marriage house. Am I doomed to an unhappy marriage? Should I begin the search for a suitable alliance - or is such a result scientifically impossible?

    A:

    • It is nothing to be superstitiously worried about! And happiness in marriage is certainly not "scientifically impossible"!

    • When Rahu-Ketu occupy either 1-7 of radix kundali or 1-7 on the Chandra lagna, the native bonds best with a spouse who also has either 1-7 of radix kundali or 1-7 on the Chandra lagna.

    • When evaluating the nativities of potential spouses during your search for a suitable alliance, give preference to those who have either Rahu or Ketu in radix lagna or Chandra lagna.

Stress is the result of the gap between expectation and reality. Stress can be much reduced by closing that gap!

    • If one can anticipate that, due to Ketu in 7, one will not always easily understand the spouse nor the business partner nor the professional advisers, one can put safety structures in place. You may need to have extra support to achieve good marital communication.

    • I've seen a number of Rahu-Ketu partnerships successfully negotiate the nodal confusion. They almost all had a "professional listener" such as a marital therapist, religious counselor, or mediation attorney, on retainer, throughout their marriage .

      • Whenever severe disagreement or apparent "non-cooperation" of the Ketu-indicated spouse would arise, these smart couples (and business partners) would realize that it was time to ask for help. And they would get the help they needed, before anger, frustration, and disappointment that the marriage did not have "normal" levels of agreement could start to poison the relationship.

    • The situation is not crippling but it does require honest, intelligent, non-blaming management. The problems faced by an adult marriage partner with Rahu-Ketu afflicting the marriage house will not go away. The task of reaching clear agreements will remain challenging throughout life.
However, these challenges can be very successfully managed with the right behavioral tools and third-party consulting structure in place.

    Dalai Lama on the Guru:

"I have made the point in the past that it is not necessary to consider someone one's guru from the very outset simply because one has heard the explanation of the Buddha's teachings from that person. At first, it is much better if one does not have that kind of attitude toward them, simply regarding them as a Dharma-friend. One gets teachings, and time goes by.

    • Then, when one feels that one knows that person quite well, and can take them as one's guru without any danger of transgressing the commitments that accompany such a relationship, when one has that kind of confidence, then one can go ahead and take him or her as one's guru.

The Lord Buddha himself made it quite clear in both the Vinaya sutras and in the Mahayana scriptures, and even in the Tantrayana, in a very detailed fashion, what the qualities of a teacher should be.

This is why I often criticize the Tibetan attitude of seeing whatever the guru does as good, of respecting everything that the guru does right from the start without the initial period of examination.

    • Of course, if the guru is really qualified, then to have such an attitude is very worthwhile.

Take the cases of Naropa and Marpa, for example. Sometimes it appears as though some of the things Tilopa asked of Naropa, or Naropa of Marpa, were unreasonable. Deep down, however, these requests had great meaning.

    • Because of their great faith in their gurus, Naropa and Marpa did as instructed.

    • Despite the fact that they appeared to be unreasonable, because the teachers were qualified, their actions had some meaning.

    • In such situations, it is necessary that from the disciple's side all of the actions of the teacher be respected.

    • But this cannot be compared to the case of ordinary people.

Broadly speaking, I feel that the Buddha gave us complete freedom of choice to thoroughly examine the person who is to be our guru.

This is very important. Unless one is definite, one should not take them as a guru. This preliminary examination is a kind of precautionary measure. "
