Case Studies Q: DEAR MA'M, I'M GOING THROUGH AN EXTREMELY BAD PHASE FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS. NO FINANCES, NO WORK, BAD HEALTH, NO SUCCESS IN MY CREATIVE PURSUITS. I'VE BEEN TOLD TO WEAR NILA AND PANNA BY AN ASTROLOGER. Is it right for me? A: Namaste,
Absolutely yes on the
Neelam (blue
sapphire) for Shani.
Panna (emerald)
for Budha is also good -- but without Seva, emerald for L-6
Budha may increase conflict
Shani = work
Now that Shani is in control of your life, you will suffer from
depression unless you are actively engaged in work.
Do not allow yourself to fall idle. Lord Shani must work.
Professional work
Naturally, self-supporting adults need to be paid for their work. Keep looking for paid work that is suitable to your skills and character. Vrischika on 10th navamsha suggests professional work that involves digging, mining, exploring, diving, investigating, healing, surgeries, transformations, sudden changes, disasters, emergencies, complications of childbirth, and most importantly the hidden, taboo world of sexually transmitted diseases in women (neechcha Chandra in 10th navamsha). It is an excellent position for humans services ministry in reproductive health care, esp. women's sexual surgery such as "tubal ligation" to prevent pregnancy and also for men's vasectomy. Your own health situation will be helped if you can find a bit of time to offer some Seva (according to your talents) to those with slightly worse health situations. The help comes because in serving those similar but slightly worse off, one can see the unhealthy, habitual behavioral patterns and the negative beliefs which motivate those behaviors. Seva while waiting There is often a delay (Shani) in finding professional work positions when Lord Shanicarya is in charge. Shani will eliminate any false sense of entitlement and restore the work focus to a service basis. If you are searching for a suitable professional position appropriate to your training yet experiencing some delays, it may well be that Shani is seeking a conscious statement of intention to serve. Mangala in Mithuna in 6 may be associated with unhealthy or adversarial companionship and talking in an unhealthy style -- for example gossiping and making unfounded accusations. Observe the topics and speech styles of folks who suffer imbalance in health, and you may quickly see what behavior of one's own can be corrected for better health. Motivation and Intention Under Shani's reign one may indeed hold high positions of significant responsibility; however the motive for obtaining and holding those high ranking offices must be service specifically the service of providing a regulated and orderly environment. Shani work positions cannot be disturbed by attempts at ego aggrandizement (Surya). Shani and Surya are enemies! When Surya is in charge then ego performance is OK and fun too. But right now Shani demands sobriety and service. Shani will reward you for working in some charitable service whilst you are waiting for the paying job. Shani needs to see you putting in the labor hours, every day.
Seva Hours
The service work can be a modest investment of your time and there is no need for it to be tiring. You may serve your family members or your larger community, but while you are waiting for professional opportunity do not let even a single day go by without working on behalf of those less fortunate than oneself. Ideally the beneficiaries of your Seva should be mothers with children (Shani in Karkata; sade saati)
Targeted Seva: Beneficiaries
Best service opportunities during Sade Saati and Shani-Karkata mahadasha include services to women (mothers) in health care. Also on an even more fundamental level, target those extremely unfortunate who are without food (Shani L-2 for Makara lagna) Seva is good for providing, preparing, and serving shelter and nourishment (sade saati) to the less fortunate.
Shani + Chandra
The target population for Seva are those who identify with the great common masses of humanity. They self-identify with commonness (Kumbha) and being workers (Shani). They are often seasonal (Chandra) workers, displaced by natural cycles (changes in natural environment or in the larger economy), and in particular for you the best recipients of your Seva have been displaced and unemployed due to the actions of oceans and estuaries, esp those affected by floods (Shani/Karkata) and especially women who receive no or not enough help from their husbands (Shani/7). Their ability to establish security (Karkata) is delayed or prevented by Shani. Their lives are controlled by the vicissitudes of the ocean and estuary environment (such as fisher-folk and coastal rice planters) and the great responsibility (Shani) to provide food (Karkata) and shelter (Karkata) to their families (Karkata). Mangala Talk Your Mangala in 6 is also favorable for direct and straightforward conversations in the medical clinic or police jail environment and in particular public health specialties of sexual disease which is transmitted by marital and non-marital partners. Diseases do not care about marital status. Disease and poverty find a host human who is weak and vulnerable. You are a realist and you can deal with reality honestly without sugar-coating - no need to cover up the truth for you! You can straight-talk very effectively and people who need this directness will thank you for delivering it.
You can also deliver the straight talk to those who are outcast or
bound into slavery (6) whether overt or covert. Remember "there
are no victims" since everyone is creating one's own reality.
Nevertheless millions of people are caught in the illusion (maya)
that the power to create reality resides outside of oneself, and
they suffer hugely from this delusion. Compassion first!
Seva = Enlightenment
As you help those who are unsuccessful in helping themselves, notice their behaviors. You will see quickly (because you are sharply intelligent) that those less fortunate carry negative self-expectations throughout their lifetime, and they are powerfully attached to the victim mentality. This is worth noticing, as it provides the key to your own financial and psychological recovery.
Sincerely,
Barbara Pijan Lama, Jyotisha
A case of triple-impact Shani transit during Shani mahadasha the main impact is finished when Shani exits lagna! Note from a gifted intuitive meditator: Q: you say that my Shani mahadasha is not finished until 2009, but I am am a highly intuitive person and I feel a huge shift underway ... something will change, release, or maybe just go away during this coming summer 2007... Is is possible that you have miscalculated my Shani mahadasha? I feel like "Shani Energy" is really finished for me. 18 months more of Shani seems not only unnecessary, but really unreal. Can you confirm? Your explanation of other sections of my Shani mahadasha seems spot-on but I just can reconcile this feeling that I am "done" with a major burden with the prediction that my Shani Mahadasha will run for another 2 years!!
The big change which you're intuiting is coming not from the end of Shani mahadasha per se, but from an even stronger related factor, which is the transit of Shani across Karka (Cancer) rashi. This transit affects your radix lagna & 7th navamsha very strongly. It's finished 31-July-2007. When these two factors happen simultaneously - the Shani transit to lagna with Shani mahadasha - the double-whammy oppression is quite strong. Sooo... you will notice a big uplift in the last week of July 2007 when, just as you intuited, Shani moves out of the rashi of Karka (Vedic Cancer) and into Simha. Once Shani has moved into Simha rashi about 90% of the oppressive karma is released. In your case, we are really looking at the end of five years of heavy pressure on your emotions, ego, and body which started with the "Sadhe Saati" or Saturn's transit across the sign of your Moon, in July 2002! Your Moon occupies Mithuna (Vedic Gemini) and your lagna (ascendant) is Karka. So you really had an unbroken period of intense karmic pressure --
that continued for five years almost exactly, July 2002 until July 2007. Normally the Sadhe Saati effect is sufficiently emotionally taxing all by itself to cause a person to retreat from emotional risks, and to look for ways to carry on alone with safety. In your case the need for financial, social, & emotional self-sufficiency (at root, separation from the mother) would have been very much amplified due to the simultaneous Shani pressure from the Shani mahadasha. To triple the effect of Shani's transit through Karka consider that Karka is the 7th navamsha. 7th navamsha gives the profile of the spouse and one's subconsciously driven behavior/expectations in partnerships. To quadruple the effect let's acknowledge that Shani occupies the 7th navamsha, which means that the past 2.3 years - from 5/2005 until 8/2007 - have been in effect a Saturn Return in the partnership chart. The total effect is very restrictive, maturing, isolating, responsible, and wisdom-enforcing, particularly in the area of intimate partnerships but overall you have had a very demanding course in how people affect each other, including every level of relationship: family, business, community etc. You have been forced to become much more conscious & discriminating psycho-emotionally about interactions with the partner and much more aware of what can go wrong. In general, what can go wrong does go wrong during Saturn periods - so you have become an expert in breakage and repair and breakage again. You are probably quite cautious, conservative, sober and knowledgeable by now and not prone to take unmanageable risks in any area of life -- particularly in partnerships. This has been a long haul of learning that: 'if you want something done right you have to do it yourself'. The good news is that this rigorous tour of duty will be largely completed by late July 2007. True, you have a little bit more of the official Shani mahadasha to run off. But my experience is that the final bhukti of any mahadasha is a period of closure with few surprises. Marriage is unlikely until the Moon bhukti in your 46th year, but as soon as gochara Shani has crossed out of Karkata, you will feel much more open about entering relationships, and spending your free time on non-essentials. Shani in 7th Navamsha suggests that you do well with older or more established partners. Hope this Jyotisha viewpoint is helpful for you. I do expect things to feel MUCH lighter and less heavily burdened & structured for you, starting in early August 2007. The remaining 18 mos of so of the Shani mahadasha will have a feeling of relaxed, appreciative closure. You won't feel like working so hard or accepting so much responsibility... but you have built such a strong work ethic and self-sufficiency in most departments of life by now that just slacking off a bit from your high standards will not hurt your performance. The good news is that as of July 2007 you are officially clear on what you want and what works for you in life, esp. in partnerships... you earned this wisdom by learning what doesn't work... & you are now very clear on the concept! Expect to plateau a bit from August 2007, enjoying what you have rather than needing to work so hard toward higher goals, and smell the roses more until 2/2009 when the new Budha (Mercury) mahadasha rolls in. Enjoy! Sincerely, Barbara |
