Argala Impediment Argala = a wooden bolt or pin for fastening a door or the cover of a vessel a bar, check, or impediment ~~ Cologne Digital Sanskrit Lexicon In Jyotisha, "argala" = Starting in any bhava (house): a graha or bhava which occupies the 2nd, 4th and 11th houses from that bhava, has a significant power of "impediment" upon matters of that house.  Subha-argala gives "positive impediment" i.e., support, to matters of the house. Papa-argala gives "negative impediment" i.e., restriction, to matters of the house.
