Navamsha profile for Disease and Recovery

Using the D-9 to find the Essential Causes of Illness

Disease factors are located in the individual's ego structure, but they are often hidden from the native's own consciousness.  Most people have no idea what role their thoughts, beliefs, emotional reactions, and expectations play in their disease.  They feel like victims of something that just "happened".

If there is no consciousness of imbalances at more subtle particulate levels - imbalances on the psycho-emotional astral plane, or on the mental-conceptual causal plane -- then the physical body becomes the default problem-solving location. The physical body inherits the task of resolving the imbalances in the only way it can: by manifesting disease.

Applying the method of radix-house-ruler's- navamsha-lord-in-radix, it is possible to gain a spiritually healing perspective on the disease factors present in the native's psychological make-up.

These disease factors are the psycho-emotional or conceptual seeds of  physical illness.  Adjustments to these emotionally reactive or negative-belief factors are within the native's control.

Although the fleshly level of the disease process may be well advanced, improvements can be made.  Sometimes the improvements are dramatic, when the physical body is relieved of constant psycho-emotional pressures.

Often therapeutic counseling, massage, psychic readings, prayer, meditation, and direct behavioral changes made under therapeutic supervision have a significant effect on physical disease.

Here is a useful example of the radix-house-ruler's- navamsha-lord-in-radix method which can reveal the D-9 seeds of disease.

This woman has chronic health problems since childhood which had by her 60's nearly paralyzed her.

The health situation has worsened gradually with age.

She has lived in poverty since the illnesses overtook her life; and she also aged prematurely. Whilst her multiple illnesses are diverse, the single most miserable effect is osteoporosis.

She is lonely & needy, yet critical of others & often ill-humored, with few reliable friends.  The pain & weakness in her body defines her life.  Why?  According to this amsha-radix method, what is the root of the disease and what can she do about it?

First of all, does this sound like a Saturn problem?  Age, suffering, paralysis, poverty, isolation, brittleness of the bones (osteoporosis)?

Yes.

Radix L-6 is Guru. Why are we seeing symptoms of Shani?

It is absolutely true that L-6, three-from-swakshetra, in house-8 is an inauspicious situation.

On the material plane, this yoga tends to impoverish (6) the native through the healing process (8). This native has spent all of her funds on ineffective cures.

Furthermore L-6-in-house-8 is a marker of iatrogenic disease - physician-caused illnesses that spawn from the ill-effects of improper treatments.

This is part of her reality.

We are looking for a deeper insight into how people create their own reality from their own skandhas, their own karmic "heaps" of many-lifetimes-accumulated subconscious patterns.

  1. radix L-6 is the disease agent

  2. L-6 Guru occupies Kumbha navamsha

  3. look therefore to Kumbha-lord Shani in the radix, to see where this native's compulsive (nearly always unconscious) behaviors form the seeds of the situation

Clearly this woman is suffering very deeply in this life, and there is nothing too funny about her situation.  Poverty, disease, & loneliness are the very definition of misery.  There is no motive in our method to "blame the victim" of this or any other misfortune.  We are not here to criticize, but rather to heal!

Presuming our compassionate motivation, it is possible to see how she participates in creating & maintaining these awful realities, through her own repeating patterns as exhibited in Shani.

At the spiritually responsible level of perception, it is possible to observe -- in a neutral, guilt-free way -- that there are actually

No Victims.  Each person creates their own reality from their accumulated past-life expectations.  However, when those expectations are deeply negative, as in this nativity, it is easy - perhaps inescapably easy - to get stuck in the victim space.

Typically such a native is not interested in self-responsibility; rather, they are so heavily invested in the karmic habit of blaming others or "fate" for their dilemma that they must continue on their negative path.

However, in consultation, the practicing Jyotishi is tasked to find some way to suggest that a neutral perspective can be achieved.  After the native has acquired this healthier, non-judgmental responsibility-without-guilt viewpoint, they can actually begin taking positive steps to eradicate the karma.

All karma no matter how severe can be consciously improved.  The lives of the great saints are testimony to this truth.

Shani is highly inauspicious in radix.  Occupying the sign of His great enemy Surya, Shani's potential to achieve the highest levels of balance and social justice is greatly handicapped in the hostile environment of Simha rashi.

The native feels victimized since birth.  Life is full of injustice & her personal integrity (Simha) is oppressed (Shani).

The native's birth family (2) is oppressed (Shani) by (their attachment to) the frustrations arising from wasted efforts.

Maraka L-7 Shani in a death house (2) casting drishti upon its lord (Surya, father) caused the father, a high-ranking military officer, to be killed the day before he was due to return home to his family - during the native's childhood Shani bhukti.

The native's formative years were spent in a family environment of repressed anger at the injustice of their father's death in a morally-wrong, much-hated war.

Surya, the individual ego, being lord of this devastated house, the native's personality uses this resentment & frustration at unethical situations as the warp-and-weft of the ego structure.

Of all her family members she is the most deeply & permanently attached to the wounding of injustice.

Behari says of Shani/Simha/2:

You face financial hardship. Your mind becomes irritable and your relations part company with you. You may suffer from speech problems or poor eyesight. Saturn can inflict serious mortal blows.

Repressed anger, an key family tradition (2) is the source of this native's health problems.  If she can release this boding, deeply internalized component of her socialized ego, and separate from the compulsive behaviors of the rest of her family, she has a chance to be healthier. "The mind becomes irritable."  Irritability is her distinguishing feature.  This is the key.

For this nativity, Budha, Kuja, & Guru occupy navamshas of Shani.  This means that the character of radix Shani is exceptionally influential in her life - creating the material reality of six radix houses, entirely half of her chart.  The fruits of her "dharma" as revealed in navamsha show that Shani's angry, resentful, negative attitude is exactly what she needs to improve in order to restructure the reality of her radix houses 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, and 12.  House-6 is health.
