Reading the Navamsha Varga
Three sample nativities, quick first-pass evaluations of
the D-9
10th navamsha = career
navamsha 7th = marriage-union
|
|
Elizabeth
Taylor
-
dramatist, philanthropist, jewel-collector, perfumier
- 8-decade super-high profile career
- every sort of sensual luxury
- facial beauty, esp eyes
(Vrishabha)
- motherhood (Chandra)
- addictions
- marriages
- jewels
|

Ms. Taylor enjoyed tremendously high
social visibility that kept her in the public eye from childhood
until her death. Her personal life was extensively and
sensationally detailed the press. She was famed inter aliafor
its beauty, philanthropy, and the spectacular
eight marriages.
1-7 navamsha = personal relationships
Rahu in theatrical Simha
-
Rahu-Simha seeks the Bright Lights
of theatre, politics, the fashions of the royal court.
Rahu's methods are typically surreptitious but Naga-Rahu
fascinates like a swaying cobra. Radix Surya, who
ultimately controls the navamsha lagna, occupies bhava-5
which doubles the empowerment for theatre and politics.
(husband #7 = USA national senator.)
-
the extraordinary complexity of
her 1-7 navamsha displays the many extraordinary unions she
formed during her lifetime. Ketu in 7th-Kumbha navamsha
suggests an inability to form enduring bonds, due in part
to Rahu's ambition to achieve the brightest focal center
(Simha) of the environment. However the short-term
intensity of personal identification with these
relationships = navamsha L-1 Surya in Kumbha-7.
Lord of the
10th navamsha
=
"super-Shukra"
Shukra = gains of extraordinary strength
in matters of the daityaguru.
Among the
significations of Shukra = the many fascinating sensualities of her
public career = marriage, wealth, luxuries, jewels,
perfumes, fine textiles, anahata chakra, attraction, and
addiction.
-
10th navamsha =
Vrishabha
= face, eyes, hair, voice, wealth, sensuality
-
Ms. Taylor's radix atmakaraka
uchchamsha lagnesha = tremendously empowered
Shukra yuti Rahu the
Amplifier
Chandra-Vrishabha = extraordinary
career
-
Within the 10th navamsha bhava
resides the deeply sensual-emotional uchchamsha Chandra in
voluptuous look-at-me
Rohini.
-
Chandra = lord of radix-10th =
very, very powerful career!
Compare to other mesmerizing cinema
beauties = Vrishabha10th navamsha in which resides a strong
planet (but none quite as strong as Taylor):

Queen Elizabeth II of
Britain
- 1-7 navamsha = Shani = enduring, lawful marriage
|
.

1-7 navamsha marriage-contractual unions
swakshetra Chandra = lord of navamsha = very strong and dignified in
radix-7
-
Pushyami-Shani in the navamsha lagna further
emphasizes her orderliness and commitment to regular habits in
marriage
= loyal and enduring partnerships.
-
The dignity of institutional, regulatory Shani
= further enhanced by the exceptionally auspicious parivartamsha
yoga between Shani and the rising uchchamsha Mangala in her D-1
-
Rahu the Rogue = the great upsetter of Shani's
worldly order. Importantly, Rahu has no drishti relationship to Shani in either radix or
navamsha..
-
D-1 lagnesha Shani = well disposed in Karkata rashi, suggesting that Queen Elizabeth has a deep personal
identity affiliation and social personality investment in her
60+-year
marriage partnership with UK
Prince Consort
Philip Mountbatten.
-
Sober Shani is deeply committed to lawful
conduct in contractual relationships. There is almost no change of
her endangering the
stability and reliable support of that union by doing anything
selfish or even spontaneously frivolous.
-
This union is famously solid and enduring.
10th navamsha
= career = Shukra in Mesha.

Career =
10th navamsha
Lord of the navamsha 1 + 10 = radix L-8 + the gainful L-11
Swakshetra Budha gains great strength
for careers in writing, media management, reporting,
journalism, travel planning, administration, communications
industry
Radix L-8 Budha in
logical-argumentation bhava-6
also enjoys Harsha Yoga
in D-1. When misfortune strikes another, this quick-thinking
native may profit.
-
Due to the Mangala-Shani parivartamsha greatly
amplified by Rogue Rahu, this man = exceptionally competitive
(uchchamsha Mangala-3), disciplined, effortful (Shani-1) and capable of taking
calculated risks (Rahu).
-
A splendid global Guru shows his good fortune in
receiving an excellent education and many opportunities to apply his
skills in global markets.
-
talkative, words-and-numbers Budha strong in
10th navamsha indicates a great facility with the tools of Budha =
computer, telephone, pen, and calculating machines
-
he became remarkably wealthy via not great
leadership but rather shrewd management
of accounts. In particular, his personal fortune
accrued via clever management of 'expense accounts' which allowed the
corporation to pay his personal expenses for several decades.
Shani the survivalist = 1st navamsha
Kanya.
According to his aggrieved wife, this fellow's attitude toward human relationships = D-9 = crudely
(Shani) rationalized (Kanya). He is said to be chronically
argumentative and malcontent.
Nevertheless, for career purposes,
Shani is a helper.
-
Shani is a friend of Budha = L-1 +
L-10 of the navamsha varga.
-
Shani = lord of the communicative,
administrative, meeting and messaging D-1 bhava-3.
In addition to the career empowerment
brought into this conventional corporate (Shani) profession by
the auspicious placement of L-3 in the navamsha lagna, the
administrative career indicated by swakshetra navamsha Budha in
10th D-9 = greatly helped by Shani's karaka qualities of
determination and persistence.
Personal relationships =
navamsha-1 Yet the sad truth =
most of his explaining, conversational narrative energy is
expended in the professional environment, where swakshetra
Budha = mentally agile. Budha flourishes in a communicative
cohort (Mithuna). Despite the wealthy,
globe-trotting auspice of Brihaspati in navamsha 7th, the
Surya-Shani bitter opposition shows chronic (Shani) arguing
(Kanya) with the spouse. No help from conversational, sexual
Budha in the personal life. |

Why relate to Others?
The Compassionate Life by Tenzin Gyatso, the
Fourteenth Dalai Lama (p.5) |
"Reflect on the basic pattern of our existence.
In order to do more than just barely survive, we need
shelter, food, companions, friends, the esteem of others,
resources, and so on; these things do not come about from
ourselves alone but are all dependent on others.
Suppose one
single person were to live alone in a remote and uninhabited
place. No matter how strong, healthy, or educated this
person were, there would be no possibility of his or her
leading a happy and fulfilling existence....
Can such a
person have friends? Acquire renown? Can this person become
a hero if he or she wishes to become one?
I think the answer
to all these questions is a definite no, for all these
factors come about only in relation to other fellow humans.
- When you are young, healthy, and strong, you
sometimes can get the feeling that you are totally
independent and do not need anyone else. But this is an
illusion.
- Even at that prime age of your life, simply because
your are a human being, you need friends, don't you?
- This is especially true when we become old and need
to rely more and more on the help of others: this is the
nature of our lives as human beings.
In at least one sense, we can say that other people are
really the principal source of all our experiences of joy,
happiness, and prosperity, and not only in terms of our
day-to-day dealings with people. We can see that all the
desirable experiences that we cherish or aspire to attain
are dependent upon cooperation and interaction with others.
It is an obvious fact.
Similarly, from the point of view of a Buddhist
practitioner, many of the high levels of realization that
you gain and the progress that you make on your spiritual
journey are dependent upon cooperation and interaction with
others.
Furthermore, at the stage of complete enlightenment,
the compassionate activities of a Buddha can come about
spontaneously only in relation to other beings, for those
beings are the recipients and beneficiaries of those
enlightened activities. "
