- Rohini Ranjan "As indicated by Jyotishi Sanjay Rath, the swamsha or lagnamsha, the sign that rises in the navamsha chart is particularly significant in indicating all that which fructifies and is attainable in life, easily, the path of least resistance."

Navamsha = the dormant consciousness awakening = our dormant knowledge manifesting = our dormant psychological traits becoming obvious to us.

The portion = Amsha = Swamsha signifies that which fructifies easily because the swamsha is the heart of one's dharma, of the peak consciousness one has achieved in past lives - and are hoping to realize again. That stuff is nice and easy.

  • he navamsha is equally important for evaluating both marriage and the individual's private spiritual life. Both marriage and private spiritual relationships with deities or out-of-body spirits bring out the best in us. Bring out our deepest inner wisdom. (Sometimes *forces* it out but does the job anyway.)

The spouse = our "better half" = positioned to mirror us to ourselves more effectively than anyone else in this life. Their job is to help us remember, who we used to be, what we used to know, the peak of consciousness we had obtained in previous lives. That is why spouses come together - to help each other attain their highest dharma again.

  • Marriage = generally overall = a nice life experience for adults - usually. Nice to be with the spouse, and easy to appreciate them and love them. (Well, if you have an easy navamsha, anyway!) Raising children or working together on compassionate service = what better way to work toward higher dharma, with someone who knows you really well (from past lives of course) and who will relentlessly mirror you back to yourself.

  • Hard to escape from that partner-mirror! That mirror will show if one is running clean energy (or not).

Typically the spouse, one's most prominent Dharma partner, is profiled in navamsha-7th while you, the native , are represented by the swamsha.

If the swamsha is really the "real you" - the psychic you, the dharmic you - who better to know the real you than your spouse?

  • But even if your navamsha is one of those that needs to be read according to deFouw and Svoboda's "80/20" rule (where swamsha represents the spouse and navamsha-7th represents you, the native ) the *relationship* between swamsha and navamsha-7 is what really tells the tale of the marriage.

A tough planet in swamsha usually means the person is having a lot of trouble accepting themselves. Maybe they made a serious mistake in a past life and remain subconsciously afraid of themselves. This person might have a highly functional radix lagna, and make a good impression in the material world. Maybe they are wealthy, powerful, admired. But check out the swamsha. Is that still good? If it is they are enjoying their lives, and what comes easily to them is what they want.

  • However, if swamsha is harmed - by malefic influences on either end of the navamsha 1/7 axis (they will always cast mutual drishti) marriage relations will be damaged due to the native 's resistance to their own dharma.

  • hey will be privately angry with themselves, or privately critical, feeling anxious or insufficient in who they are.

  • It is surprising how many wealthy, super-competitive American "success stories" are clinically depressed with a string of failed marriages behind them. They might be getting money, status objects, "trophy wives" etc. but such natives remain profoundly unhappy because what comes easily to them is not what they want. You will see this private reality in swamsha.

Typically a troubled swamsha or hostile navamsha 1/7 axis = blame any marriage problems entirely upon the spouse. A troubled swamsha = profound inner despair . A troubled swamsha = frequently *does* attract extremely difficult spouses who mirror back to them all their inner junk. It is not a pretty picture! Naturally it appears "as if" this terrible spouse is causing all the trouble. The troubled swamsha = feels like a victim. The "bad" marriage seems like an outside event that just "happened".

But look more deeply, knowing that it always "takes two to tango". There will be, signified by inauspicious swamsha, a behavior of projecting of all bad traits upon the spouse.

A key to healing a troubled navamsha = a troubled marriage = owner of the damaged swamsha to look honestly at self-loathing, anxiety, fear of failure, resistance to change - or whatever the swamsha issues really are. This is difficult to do - usually very emotionally painful - but worth it, because what is at stake in swamsha is loss or recovery of one's dharma.

  • It is through swamsha - the culmination of wisdom achieved in past lives, your "picking up where we left off" place that manifests in re-connecting with your loving dharma partner from past lives - that dharma is realized.

  • Dharma is the sum total of all happiness. Our ability to be peaceful, balanced, satisfied, wise, compassionate - these are all products of the dharma.

  • So, if a native with serious trouble in swamsha comes to you, O Jyotishi, with marriage troubles - study the swamsha. Problems in core relationships = caused by problems in oneself.

Nowhere is this more clear than in swamsha.

Swamsha = auspicious = enjoys inner happiness = a happy marriage.

Like all troubles in Jyotisha, a damaged swamsha or navamsha 1/7 axis can be remedied through humility and authentic desire to change, supported by counseling and prayer.

  • We attract into our personal world precisely those people who most actively assist us on the spiritual path.

  • Whether their company is easy or difficult to bear, the fact is, that all those known to us in this life, are our spiritual companions.

  • The partner = most intimate of these spiritual companions = the one who knows perhaps better than even ourselves, who we "really are".

Q:

(Note to a client who discovered that his birth time was one minute later than he had stated at the time of the initial Jyotisha reading.)

How much can one minute of birth time affects predictions? What is Swaamsha?

A:

"Swaamsha" -- planetary lord of the navamsha lagna:

The Swa-amsha ("soul's-portion") of the nativity changes during that particular minute, which changes the quality of The brightest light leading you up the pathto self-realization. That sounds rather froo-froo, unless one appreciates that the path to self-realization can contain everything from planetary healing to shocking and heinous crimes. There is no good or bad path: rich or poor, healthy or unhealthy, moral or immoral - its all in the path. It's all correct.

Our sufferingcomes from believingthat somehow our lives are inadequateor incorrect.

Nothing could be farther from the truth!

The planetary lord of the navamsha is very much A guiding lightin the life of a spiritually conscious person.

What's the big deal about one minute of birth time?

For your particular nativity, one minute of birth time indeed Advances the astrological sign on the ascendant of the navamsha.

This changes the planetary lord of the primary spiritual path.

In consequence, it changes the timing of a certain class of spiritually significant eventssuch as marriage/divorce and entering+Leaving significant business partnerships, as well as taking/returning religious vows (partnership with the divine) and birth of children.

Change in Swamsha will change the timing of all major spiritual milestones, those rare moments of realization or "seeing oneself".

But, a change in Swamsha does not change much day-to-day survival reality at all.

Generally, a change in Swamsha will not change timing of events that do not validate the spirit, which is most of the events on our normal daily calendars!

In normal daily life we mainly repeat karmic survival-driven habits and do not "see"one another (I.e., see God in each other) much at all. If we do not see the divine in one another during mundane activity in business, accounting, teaching, housekeeping, changing baby diapers, paying taxes, cooking, going to church, etc -- then the event is spiritually rather empty and has little value on the deathbed.

The Swamsha predicts the events that will, by contrast, have a high spiritual value.

(Some of them are pleasurable and some are shocking. They all have high spiritual value!)

Most people on their death beds do regret having turned a blind eye to others while in the pursuit of survival protection of food, money, shelter, social status.

Swamsha = Auspicious = the"soul's portion" stakes a claim in almost any mundane event, and even little transactions are infused with the power to "see"the other without that hissing snake of fear.

Therefore , the major part of happinessindeed rests on having an auspicious swamsha!

Achange in Swamsha definitely affects love relationships

especially with spouses and children because they are bright, nourishing mirrorsof the soul. Actually, depending on the total navamsha, some apparently mundane events like going on a great vacation or getting a job promotion or even a new car/pet/pair of shoes can have a huge spiritually validating effect -- it depends on the conscious lead-up to that mundane event.

Sometimes a mundane event sends a powerful signal to the soul and says, yes!! this is what you have been asking for! Those amazing events will be largely triggered by Vimshottari periods and coordinating transits of the lord of the Swamsha.

How important is lord of Swamsha in determining the course of practical daily events such as business decisions?

Directly upon the material plane, not much at all.

Indirectly in its role as excavator of a particular set deeply held expectations and desires, from the Ancient samsaric subconscious, for use in the current lifetime, it is immensely powerful.

Forget this flaky vague philosophy, I want practical material results

I personally think Swamsha is extremely important. However, the spiritual-validationlanguage of Jyotisha that is used to describe it could sound quite vague and trivial to a person who is just very focused on getting things done on the material plane.

I respect material achievements, such as wealth and social respect, and recognize them as a 100% authentic path for people with a particular variety of Swamsha!

However due to the character of my own Swamsha I believe that what people really want to know when they ask a question like, "when will I get a lot of money or a fancy car or a job promotion or good marriage or fame or win an election", is really, "when will I experience feeling validated in every cell of my body, when will I feel permeated by the divine grace, when will I feel loved beyond limits, when will I know that I am connected to every particle in the universe and that my every thought, feeling, and action is perfectly correct?"

My own swamsha largely determines my core spiritual beliefs. And, for better or worse, I think this is what they are really asking, so I tend to answer material questions in a more spiritual vocabulary. My guidance will really only be valued by people who have the type of Swamsha that can detect my kind of light.

Your own Swamsha and its Planetary Lord

With the xxx birth time is Budha in the 3rd Pada of Krittika, which according to Bepin Behari signifies that: "You are practical in your approach and firm. Enjoys power. Beautiful appearance." And of course many other indications, including an excellent business sense and also tendency to be somewhat under-recognized in material terms, with your achievements somewhat disappointing despite considerable effort, and irritation of litigation or hostilities.

The negative factors associated with this lord of swamsha are ONLY stories, they are simply "you" trying to get in touch with "you" by saying "hey there, you are feeling a bit hostile toward yourself, try being nicer to yourself and not pushing so hard, that's what other people respond to, their sense of who you are."

All negativities can be cleared up with practice in catching these important spiritual narratives in action

It's simple, but we do have maintain a vigorous practice, to correct the habit of hurting ourselves.

As soon as one stops advertising the fact that one is hurting oneself (this looks like a flash neon sign in the aura that says "hurt me") then others will indeed stop hurting one. They will stop picking up that subconscious but psychicly vivid hurt-me signal!

Anyway your Swamsha from the corrected birth time is this particular Budha position, in the Nakshatra of Krittika, and from the seed of that position your whole tree of experiences, perceptions, and beliefs does sprout.

Then from the experiences, beliefs, and perceptions rolls out your whole drama of projection-manifestation upon the earthly time-space-food-relationships movie screen.

Just remember nothing is happening "to" you, you are projecting your own expectations and powerfully creating it all! It is absolutely yours and you can do what you want with it.

The seed of this awesome self-creation in this life is indeed the Swamsha.

By contrast, if we use the previous birth time, Only 1 minute earlier

Calculations produce a planetary lord of navamsha (the "9th-harmonic" chart) = Venus. Your position of Venus is extremely blessed on the material plane - poetical, musical, sensually loving, and rather withdrawn into private pleasures. However Venus, called "Shukra" or 'sugar' in Sanskrit, has its down side - sensual indulgence even in arts and beauty leads nowhere spiritually unless those pleasures are hitched to a higher goal, such as service to others.

If Shukra were indeed the planetary lord of your navamsha, you would be not much interested in business or worldly communications; rather you might be more of a purring lap-cat, happy to be pampered and petted living in a dream state until a rather rude awakening at the moment of leaving the body!

BTW this would be the proper path if it were the proper birth-time, and a lovely one too... We would simply look for periods of Shukra activity to discover moments of deepest spiritual validation, when a "power seed" sprouts and one (ideally) realizes: this is what I came to Earth to do!

Using the corrected birth time, Only 1 minute later

The planetary lord of the navamsha becomes Mercury, or "Budha" ("awareness", "awakeness"). (Not quite the same word as "Buddha" the name of the deity, but related.) I suspect this is more accurate for you. Budha gives strong but impatient communications intelligence. The spiritual path following Budha's light is mentalized and commercialized, very practical and successful.

Since the rise of the 'information economy', clever and witty Budha-guided folk have been enjoying themselves on the social/material plane! They like to think! (Not to reflect too much on gigantic repeating cycles but rather to process immediate interesting curious transactions and keep moving forward into intriguing new patterns.) Every planet has its downside though, and if Budha folk are not careful they will fritter away the entire blessing of a lifetime on day-to-day business process and "problem-solving" in the micro view, without much inclination to lift up their spirit in praise of the huge state of grace in which we all live.

Budha as the spiritual guiding light shows your true spiritual path to be one of communication, negotiation, and exchanges of all kinds. You are blessed with a lively intelligence and a beautiful voice as strong tools to use in your travels. Budha is an "energy trader" - karaka for sexual relationships, money-earning/spending, creation/destruction of ideas and materials and lives -- stability/freedom -- just every conceivable form of exchange.

We would look to periods of Budha for the times when the light bulb of "true purpose" will switch on, and all the good things that you do will make deep divine sense. But Budha's handicap is that underlying dissatisfaction and nervousness which comes from short-term thinking. So part of the true path would be to realize the limitations of day-to-day success even while you are busy being successful!

Hope this helps explain why, in your particular case, one minute of birth time makes a very significant difference, in the timing of events that create deep spiritual meaning and connection with your partners along the Path.
