Chapter 52:
Effects of the Antara Dashas in the Dasha of Surya
|
Listen
to Surya mantra: OM
hram hrim hraum sah suryaya namaha

http://sanskrit.gde.to/
The Sun God should be worshipped by
offering red flowers, Akshata and Sandala with folded hands, and then the
grahas should be worshipped.
If in addition to mantra
you wish to follow Shri Parashara's remedial instruction for giving a
cow, buffalo, or goat in charity, this is quite easy to do!
www.heifer.org
provides life-giving animals & veterinary training to impoverished
families throughout our world. It's easy & fun to select a
charitable gift from their online catalog of buffaloes, cows, goats and
more.
(Even if you're having an easy dasha,
these beloved animals make wonderful celebratory gifts!)
A
modern reading of Surya
mahadasha main sequence of experiences or
"what to expect" --

|
|
Surya/Surya
period
duration = 3 months
|
One embarks upon the Surya/Surya bhukti with principled
expectations driven by high
ideals.
Ethical behaviors, self-realization
through philosophical reasoning, and individual empowerment
within society, will reach their maximum potential now.
The range of idealism and potential empowerment
through principled action is determined by Surya's rashi, bhava,
drishti & other characteristics.
High-power Surya
Surya well-disposed in Simha elevates
ethical principle, to the point of regal entitlement. For these six
years, Noblesse oblige will flow. One is highly attuned to
moral principle. One becomes an exponent of ethical
practice in society. Partnership only with those similarly
privileged & attuned.
Surya in Mesha emphasizes
individual nobility and self-determination through rational
choice. Some danger of selfish actions if Surya is not
constrained by more populist drishti. Extraordinary competitive
individual achievements. Balanced relationships not favored.
Low-power Surya
By contrast, Surya's ability to channel divine intelligence
through the bright light of individual
reasoning is weakened in:
The mahadasha of a neechha
or weakened Surya may be marked by low personal morality or
incomplete reasoning process (dogmatism, ideologue, simplistic or
dismissive response to ethical challenge). Low-power Surya indicates weakened
courage to pursue principled action due to falling
sway to a dominant partner or group.
Rashi qualities of Surya subject to adjustment
through significations of bhava & drishti.
The populist drishti of "common man"
Shani upon "kingly" Surya imposes especially harsh
constraints upon Surya's natural entitlements. Drishti of Shani upon
Surya will reduce personal glamour & easy privilege, but it also
prevents selfish excess.
|
|
Surya/Chandra period
duration = 6 months |
Surya is the hot, rational, yang energy; Chandra
rules the cool, intuitive, feminine. Depending on the angle between
the two luminaries within the radix & navamsha charts, this
period typically expresses the psychic relationship between
one's parents.
Regardless of one's current social gender, one
will feel like the rational father, reaching out to the weaker but
more intuitive mother.
A protective, paternal, care-taking instinct
underlies the activities determined by Chandra's radix bhava and
rashi.
-
If Surya and Chandra are well-balanced,
intuition complements and supplements reasoning power.
-
If the radix Surya/Chandra angle is
unfavorable, expect some tension between ethical reasoning and
intuitive sensitivities.
|
|
Surya/Kuja period
duration = 5 months
|
Surya is divine intelligence channeling through
the human capacity for principled philosophical reasoning. Kuja is the
animal body driven by instinctive responses to the environment. Kuja
is human sexual pursuit and penetration; the killer instinct of the
hunter and the warrior; and the competitive drive of military exercise
and sport.
Surya and Kuja are friends. Presuming a healthy
angle between these two graha, the brief period of Surya/Kuja is
vigorously physically active, goal-oriented, and highly
individualized.
-
If Surya and Kuja are well-balanced, goal-oriented
competitive action will complement and supplement the
reasoning intelligence.
-
If the radix Surya/Kuja angle is
unfavorable, expect some tension between reason vs. adversarial,
warlike, or simple muscular action.
|
|
Surya/Rahu period
duration = 11 months |
Surya & Rahu are natural enemies. Surya's
divinely ordered, priestly intelligence (Vishnu) looks with contempt
upon the vulgar, desires of taboo-breaking Rahu. Results of this
period depend on the complex relationship between Rahu, Rahu's lord,
any co-tenants with Rahu, and Surya.
Some tension between Surya's kingdom of moral
principle and Rahu's disregard for established boundaries
is quite likely. Concentration is disrupted by the interloper's desire
for illicit pleasures. However barring unfavorable angles, the native
might experience the liberating benefits of "questioning
authority" and also have a bit of fun.
-
If Surya and Rahu are well-balanced, the
excitement of desire can complement and supplement the ethical
intelligence. Sometimes breaking cultural boundaries leads to
better, more creative conditions in the kingdom.
-
However, if the radix Surya/Rahu angle is
unfavorable, expect some tension between moral reasoning and
passionate, hungry desires.
|
|
Surya/Guru period
duration = 9 months |
Surya and Brihaspati are friends. Barring a
difficult mutual angle, the results of this period benefit the
native's life wisdom learning. Rahu's illicit excess may be corrected
now, as the native returns to righteousness.
Not favorable for love relationships,
since both Ravi & Guru are uncomfortable in Shukra's territory.
Truth principles become "non-negotiable" Disinclined
toward compromise. One feels self-reliant and wise.
If Surya + Guru power is magnified through
conjunction or trine drishti, one's principled self-righteousness - a
pendulum swing from Rahu's devil-may-care carousing - can also become
excessive.
-
If Surya & Guru are well-balanced,
wisdom teachings and a general attitude of expansive optimism can
complement and supplement the individual reasoning power.
-
If the radix Surya/Guru angle is
unfavorable, expect some tension between personal experience of
divine will vs. religious teachings.
|
|
Surya/Shani period
duration = 12 months |
Surya and Shani are bitter
enemies. This is a difficult period when self-respect &
individual creativity are compromised & constrained by public,
institutional, government, or other regulatory demands. The
native feels like a cog in the machine.
For Thula lagna and Vrishabha lagna, Shani = yogakaraka.
The relentless, shoulder-to-the-grindstone effort of the
yogakaraka Shani is just as draining upon the life force, but
results will be socially praiseworthy.
Shani has the quality of bringing things to a
conclusion. If the native is working on a project or relationship, this
single year of hard work and determination to follow
the common rules will bear the fruit of achievement. If
there is no life goal at this time, Surya/Shani = just plain hard
work. Oppressive. Institutional limitations upon individual
intelligence. Scarce resources. Shani's daunting workload makes it
hard to "keep the faith" of Surya.
Supports relationships based on duty and
material responsibility.
-
If Surya & Shani are well-balanced,
diligent lawfulness and earthy materialism can complement and
supplement the individual reasoning power.
-
If the radix Surya/Shani angle is
unfavorable, expect some tension between the light of intelligent
reason and conformist, fear-driven rules of law & order.
|
|
Surya/Budha period
duration = 10 months |
Surya sees Budha as a neutral party, while Budha
sees Surya as a friend. Despite the fact that Surya/Budha can be in
the distrusting 2/12 angle, Surya/Budha period is not normally a
conflicted period. It is generally a neutral 10+ months of mental
output with lots of writing, conferencing, team communications, and
other Budha-driven dialogue.
Budha is Surya's mouthpiece. One's principled
reasoning will find verbal and written expression. Depending on
whether Surya/Budha = 1/1 or 2/12, the verbal/written output may
slightly alter Ravi's original reasoning process. However if Budha is
well disposed, the period moves quickly in fluent communication, and
the native is fairly relaxed.
-
If Surya & Budha are well-balanced, the
daily chat of repeating conversation (including sexual
communications) can complement and supplement the higher
principles of reasoning.
-
If the radix Surya/Budha angle is
unfavorable, expect some tension between principles of higher
reason and short-term, pre-scripted, conversational logic.
|
|
Surya/Ketu period
duration = 4 months |
Surya and Ketu are neither friend nor foe.
Typically there is a mental or psychological disjunct between Surya's
sense of the universe (Vishnu) being ordered and divinely purposeful,
versus Ketu's sense of aimless wandering and inability to control
one's own destiny.
While public identity (Surya) will remain
intact, one's interior experience via Ketu is a bit lost and lacking
structure. The period is brief. Some psychological depression or
despair is common, and will pass quickly. In case of a big mental
effort to express Surya's divine intelligence during Surya/Budha
period, the Surya/Ketu period may feel like a "post-partum
depression". Communication empowerment is drained with no
reserves.
Intuitive perceptions are brilliant but the
native must take special precautions to reinforce one's mental
boundaries. Getting too involved in the reasoning styles of others is
a philosophical liability, however briefly.
-
If Surya & Ketu are well-balanced, deep
psycho-intuitive perception can complement & supplement the
higher principles of reasoning.
-
If the radix Surya/Ketu angle is
unfavorable, expect some tension between higher moral principles
and the post-morality abandon of true spiritual detachment.
|
|
Surya/Shukra period
duration = 12 months |
Surya and Shukra are bitter
enemies. They fight about Love. Surya divine love. Shukra =
human love. Each stakes a claim in human life. When the two claims
overlap or compete for priority, the native suffers. Surya/Shukra is a
difficult period.
During Surya/Shukra, the native is disturbed by
conflict between the righteous individual moral integrity of Surya
versus the balancing, accommodating, sensual agenda of Shukra.
The challenge is to achieve an integrated
tolerance for human love, while sustaining commitment to higher
moral principles and continuing to enjoy the deep validation of divine
love. One's perfect relationship with God needs to be somehow combined
with imperfect relationships to human love partners.
Surya is not inclined to lower His standards.
The strong is Ravi by rashi, bhava, and drishti - also the more
intolerant of human failing. If Surya is particularly vibrant and
entitled, Ravi's need to prioritize divine love may cause the loss,
through intolerance, of an ethically imperfect human
partnership.
Whether the Surya-Shkura conflict is severe
enough to cause a loss of human love, or whether sufficient ethical
improvements can be made and the human love sustained, the results of
Surya/Shukra period clear the way for a deeper nurturing human
relationship in the forthcoming Chandra mahadasha.
In addition, the final
bhukti of any mahadasha enforces forgiveness,
closure, and release. Relationships which fail to uphold Surya's
ethical standards will be eliminated.
-
If Surya & Shukra are well-balanced,
attraction to sensual luxury can complement & supplement
the higher principles of reasoning.
-
If the radix Surya/Shukra angle is
unfavorable, expect some tension between ethical principles
(including compassion) and basic sexual/emotional attraction to
the beloved.
