Beatle and Vaishnava George Harrison developed a legendary career in world-transformative music and film.  

This review of Harrison's Jyotisha chart is offered  with love and respect to his guiding spirit.  

• The birth-time of 23:52:19 on 24-Feb-1943 (War Time) is a reported rectification by Harrison's personal Jyotishi. 

• (Harrison's recorded BT = 00:05 hrs on 25-Feb-1943.)

• Death = age 58 = 29-Nov-2001 at 1:30 am in Los Angeles.

Rising Degree of the Navamsha Lagna = 05 Dhanusha (Sagittarius).   

Distinctive features of the Nativity

• Karakamsha = Dhanusha domain-3 = best known for his religious writings (implicitly and explicitly devotional songs) and media production (films, musical recordings, organized events)

• Sarala Yoga = L-8  uchcha Shukra in domain-6 brings great wealth - uchcha Shukra (see effects of the Vimshottari Dasha period of Guru/Shukra, below)

• Majority of bhava in D-1 and D-9 are owned by the benefics, Guru and Shukra.

The enormity of public recognition through a psycho-emotional connection, which is implied by this position of L-10 Chandra, is positively awesome.

• Surya/Ketu, and Chandra/lagna, receive drishti of Guru from domain-9 = strong religious orientation

• Vargottama Rahu in Simha/11 = spectacular material wealth

• Guru is very influential! Guru = lord of navamsha (spiritual/marriage), dashamsha (leadership/icon), and dwadashamsha (parents).

10th-lord Moon upon radix Lagna

Soma rises in lagna in both radix and navamsha charts (as well as nearly every varga).

As Sanjay Rath points out, the lifetime strength provided by a strong, loving mother who unswervingly believed in George and his musical talent, is the root of all good things in this chart. 

George's mother bought his first guitar.  

• L-10 in lagna = massive public recognition; Moon sets the recognition vibration at "intuitive-emotional."  

• Harrison's Moon sits within a few seconds of the degree of the radix lagna = maximum strength public impact. 

Harrison was especially loved by women, who intuitively recognized their own receptive feminine intelligence (Moon) in his music.

A spectacular nativity -- due to Chandra

What makes this an internationally recognized nativity? Chandra occupies the exact same degree as radix lagna.

• Therefore, Chandra also occupies the lagna of every single varga chart in the nativity. As the lagna divides into its vargas, Chandra divides in exactly the same pattern.

• The material-world effect of this Jyotisha algorithm is that virtually every aspect of Harrison's life became publicly known, so that his "leadership" duties through Chandra included his spiritual, emotional, intimate, parenting, and poetic experiences as well as the typical "for-show" two-dimensional characteristics of public figures.

Harrison's commitment to the devotional-missionary Krishna movement and his respect for his religious instructors is well known.  

• Vaishnava Das Goravani reads this pada's signification as "You are intelligent and fond of religious worship. Phlegmatic constitution. There may be some trouble with organs. You serve your parents and teachers with utmost care."

• Harrison's hugely successful musical recording "My Sweet Lord" in 1971 introduced the bhakti devotion of  Krishna Culture to millions of souls who had absolutely never heard it before.  Harrison's beautiful, compellingly emotional production instantly spread the love of Krishna worldwide.

That's quite a Moon!

Uchcha Shukra

When empowered Shukra occupies either domain-6 or domain-12, it is a red flag for pleasure addictions. Either sex or drugs, and usually both.

• Uchcha Shukra provides a huge assist for bringing inspiration of the muse into material world activities, using the vehicle of the bodily movements and appearance. Harrison's visage was enormously famous in his generation, at least within the Anglosphere. 

• Uchcha Shukra = very strongly (almost inescapably) attracted into fine arts & music, start ing in childhood.

 Shukra = the notorious double-L8

• For Harrison, with Thula Moon rising in Thula lagna, Shukra becomes the notorious double-L-8.

•  As the cyclical agent of self-destruction and self-regeneration, Shukra promises catastrophic upheaval and/or magical change

Male nativity, Shukra = wife

• For a male, the most powerful agent of the intense self-transformation required by this configuration is the wife, particularly the first wife.

• The strong Shukra is the force of the (normally, involuntary) transformation.

Benefics in domain-6 bring much more trouble into life than malefics in Ripu bhava. 

• L-8 in 6 Sarala Yoga  also destroys the longevity provisions of Shani in 8.

• Harrison had a relatively short life; finished before 60 years. L-8 in 6 says that the longevity (ayur, 8) is weakened through disease (6)

Marriages

Lagnesha Uchcha Shukra = an extremely strong benefic

• Shukra created a lifetime full of lawsuits (loss of agreements, 12th-from-7th)

• along with sweet-substance addictions and persistent financial conflicts in the art and music workplace

First Marriage

In a male nativity, first wife is indicated by Shukra. Mr. Harrison's first wife, the lovely fashion model and artist Patti Boyd, was visually, artistically, sensually attractive =  uchcha Shukra-Meena. [Ms. Boyd became a professional artistic photographer.]

Unfortunately, uchcha Shukra = Harrison's domain-6. Harrison struggled with various substance addictions throughout his life. Neither partner in the first marriage was able to uphold the exclusivity contract; infidelity and betrayal made the first marriage very pretty, but unhappy due to excessive Shukra-sweet sensuality and quite short.

Yet Shani in 8 suggests that Harrison would have resisted divorce.

True to Shukra/6, Mr. Harrison met his first wife the fashion model Patti Boyd in the workplace: on the set of the youth-music film "A Hard Days Night". He was working (6) in a drug-ridden environment filled with musicians and visually beautiful people - the perfect uchcha Shukra setting. In came his beautiful, betraying, drug-and-luxury loving wife.

Second Marriage

In a male nativity, Second marriage is indicated by graha associated with Shukra.  In the nativity, Shukra receives no Parashari drishti. However, Shukra has two tenants: yogakaraka L-4/L-5 Shani; as well as Chandra, the empowered L-10, orderly environments, in lagna.

During the second marriage, Harrison continued to enjoy a strong professional career. He acquired an array of costly vehicles and landed properties - the portfolio of his yogakaraka Shani.

Another signification of Shani as the karaka for the second spouse is that the second wife hailed from a humble social background. Also, Shani = L-2 navamsha.

Second wife was met in the music industry business office, performing routine duties, Shani (work) in Vrishabha (music and fine arts).

Mr. Harrison's second marriage, while complex, was long-lasting and stable, due in part to there being no complications in domain-2 + change-resistant Shani drishti upon 2.

Karmaa sthana, radix 10th house 

• Domain-10 is unoccupied. 

• Domain-10 receives drishti of the Communications lord = Budha = L-12 for imagination/foreign lands, and L-9 for religion. 

• Budha's aspect is not itself definitive for fame in communications, it is a very helpful influence for shaping a spiritual mission to reach the world using imaginative sound & lyrics.

• Budha = lord of 10th navamsha = career in words, such scribe, clerk, or media mogul : ) In a radix rashi of Shani, Budha has the yogakaraka empowerment of Shani as well as a mandate for its words to be accessible to the common people.

Surya + Ketu 

• Although weakened in Kumbha (Aquarius), with dispositor Saturn in destructive, 8th house, L-11 Surya for income nevertheless occupies house-5 ruling creativity and self-expression.  Gainfulness in performance arts. 

• Ravi in Kumbha = a fringe social personality - out of the mainstream, or away from the conventional cultural-reasoning style of the average person.  

• Harrison's mystical inclinations coming from Guru-amplified-Ketu always set him apart from other popular musicians, leading his music in religious directions even while he maintained authority (domain-5) and profitability in the popular arts industry.  

• Luckily for those of us who benefited from his message and role-modeling, George's solitary ways and meditative inclinations developed into a very public profile, which showed a path from progressive-hippie-visionary lifestyle into a religiously conscious awareness.

Saturn

Yogakaraka Shanaicharya rules the 4th house of home-and-property, plus the performance-arts 5th house. 

• Shani is always an excellent graha for Thula lagna. Even in an unfavorable rashi or in a dushthamsha (as in this nativity) Shani for Thula lagna will give both creativity and grounded common sense.

• During Shani mahadasha, age 29-48, Harrison's steady artistic output and creative intelligence for expressing his personal spiritual yearnings was overall grounded and productive. 

• After the sudden expansion, exuberance and also conflict of L-3/L-6 Guru mahadasha, a more conservative Shani mahadasha sustained Harrison's ability to continue to reach a worldwide audience.  

• However he guarded his family privacy, as conservative L-4 Shani naturally would.

• Some of Harrison's songs & poetry are so intimate, one might feel embarrassed to hear them if his devotional motives weren't so well known.  Note Moon in Saturn's sign in Dashamsha, confirming that his private feelings & visions go public during Saturn's life period.

Jupiter lord of dashamsha

• The earlier mahadasha of dashamsha lord Jupiter, his age 14-28, provided the remarkable boost into fame which is consistent with the mission.  Harrison joined the Beatles musical band at age 15.  

• Jupiter "matures" at 16. Guru's occupies the bhagya career-from-traveling 9th house (10th-from-12th). Guru sends drishti to both Surya and Chandra, in D-1. Therefore Guru  is likely to give high levels of cultural recognition near the age of Jupiter's maturity.   

• But Jupiter is fallen in D-10.  Harrison did not enjoy his fame, at least not from the typical ego-flattery point of view that would validate most performers.  His soul preferred solitude for mediation and creative expression.  

• However Saturn ruling the second D-10 house brought in plenty of money through career, so he would have enjoyed financial and social security, if not the most perfect religious experience! 

Vimshottari dasha narrative

Rahu mahadasha 

• age 0-17

• Rahu gives effects of lord L-11 Surya

 = although shy, many valuable friends

Rahu characteristically crashes social boundaries, causing the native to form associations (both social and conceptual) (11) across the conventional socioeconomic barriers of religion, class, ethnicity, education, etc.

• Due to Rahu's prominent role in the 5th navamsha (spiritual basis of creativity), and his association there with both Guru (spiritual wisdom) and neechcha Shani (ignorance, blaming, selfishness) the native would have been exposed to a good deal of drama both high and low quality, during the first 17 years of life. This Rahuvian theatrical flow then provides the passionate base of later creative output.

Rahu's lord Surya

Das says of Surya/Kumbha/5:

• "The position of your Sun in the 5th house is not good for children, in fact it may deny children.

• However, this same Sun indicates that divine law, or spirituality, is attractive to you, and it gives you the ability to study subjects for the upliftment of society at large, specifically detailed subjects or sciences."

Guru Mahadasha

• age 17-33

• L-3/L-6 from Thula lagna and Chandra-Thula

Das says of Guru/Mithuna/9:

• "You may be lonely, but it will prepare you for the arduous task of renunciation and for the acquisition of deeper spiritual knowledge which lie ahead.

• You will be respected in society and will have status in the religious order to which you belong."

Guru = lord of navamsha, dashamsha, and dwadashamsha. Guru in trine and casting drishti to both Surya & Chandra gives a strong "Arishta Bhanga" yoga, which eliminates the worst effects of all negative yogas in the nativity. 

1960-1970 = "Beatles Era"

Guru/Guru period:

• Beatles music group is formed

Guru/Budha period:

• Budha = L-7 navamsha

• marriage-1 = 21-Jan-1966 to the fashion model; Patti Boyd

• gochara Rahu-Ketu = Vrishabha/Vrischika

Guru/Ketu-5 period:

• famed mystical initiations, creative intelligence moves toward spiritualism

Guru/uchcha Shukra period:

• extreme conflict in artistic partnerships leads to breakup of The Beatles

  • L-8/L-1 Shukra occupies domain-6 
  • Vimshottari period of  Guru/Shukra:
  • 1969-1970, breakup of the super-famous musical ensemble "The Beatles" = 8th-house phenomenon, not a genuine physical death but a transformation of essence

  Gain of an improved new identity via the trauma of transformation:

  • liberated from the constraints of Beatle-identity and its aesthetic behaviors, Harrison was creatively (Shukra) re-born.
  • He began to produce prolifically, on his own.
  • At the conclusion of the Shukra bhukti, Harrison released the famous song "My Sweet Lord" and the album "All Things Must Pass" became a genre classic
  • (undeniably however the strength of uchcha Shukra resulted in a prolonged copyright infringement lawsuit that accompanied the great and much-praised release of post-Beatle-identity, creative output.)

Guru/Surya

• L-11 Surya gives marketplace gainfulness and achievement of personal goals

• Surya as lord of 11 and drishti to 11 = outreach ministry; with Rahu-Ketu, a foreign, forbidden, outcaste, dark, or smoky quality

• 1971 "My Sweet Lord", a devotional song with heavy electronic orchestration (Kumbha) became a worldwide hit (remains a genre classic)

• the album recording All Things Must Pass rose to great success, due largely to Harrison's extensive and diverse collaborative (11) network of friendships in the world of musicians, producers, and financiers.

Guru/Rahu period:

• Separation leading to divorce, 1974

• Failed musical tour of the USA, rejected by fans due to his hoarse voice but primarily due to the long set of foreign music (Rahu) of Ravi Shankar on sitar, interposed in the center of the concert programme.

• The final bhukti of any mahadasha = a period of write-off, forgiveness, closure, completion, and endings. (Harrison never professionally toured the USA again.)

Prognosis for two marriages, due to Rahu drishti + Guru drishti upon L-7/L-2 atmakaraka Kuja, with Mangala in a friendly rashi. 

Shani Mahadasha

• age 33-52

• yogakaraka L-4/L-5 from Thula lagna and Chandra-Thula

For the spiritual aspirant with Thula lagna, Shani mahadasha = an extremely auspicious period despite the austerity and responsibility that is characteristically imposed by Shani.

Shani in 8 = one's efforts, in terms of  both personal discipline and social duty, are hidden from the public (8) so that one must to some extent assume the mantle of a tantrik yogi.

Knowledge of the mechanism of the cycle of death and rebirth will be provided after suitable orderly behavioral practice.

L-8 being the uchcha Shukra in 8, it is unlikely that the addiction to sweet substances and sensual pleasures will disappear.

Das says of Shani/Vrishabha/8:

• "You may be drawn towards spiritual studies, giving great insight into the personality of others and premonitions of coming events.

• You receive help and guidance from unknown sources; life moves in an unpredictable manner."

Shani creates "Aputra Yoga" because L-5 Shani occupies the dusthamsha 8th house. There are going to be heavy and constricting responsibilities regarding children, and one is advised to take these duties seriously. Number of children is much limited. (Mr. George Harrison produced one child, the musician Dhani Harrison.)

Shani/Shani period

• birth of only child = 01-Aug-1978

• Shani = L-5 = children

• marriage-2 = 02-Sep-1978

Shani is not a romance-driven marriage-maker, but Shani does make marriages from the motivation of personal discipline and material duty. Marriage during Shani period signals accepting of social responsibilities and willingness to settle down into a period of regular habits.

Shani/Budha

• 8 December 1980 shocking murder of John Lennon

• L-12 Budha, 2nd-from-11th, death of friend

Budha Mahadasha

• age 52-58

• L-9/L-12  from Thula lagna and Chandra-Thula

Das says of Budha/Makara/4:

• "You are well-liked, controlled and restrained, and interesting to others.

• You most likely attain a trusted position in life, and may travel to distant lands."

L-9 = world travel. For Thula lagna, the world-travel lord Budha is also lord of vyaya bhava, so that there may occur epic journeys in return to places where one remembers or imagines a previous lifetime. (Such journeys may also occur during periods of the lord of Budha when the lord occupies 9 or 12.) For Mr. Harrison, frequent return to India, a land of his past incarnations, was a notable feature of record.

L-12 = moksha -- sanctuary, meditation, imagination. L-12 Budha in occupation of domain-4 can bring isolation as one tries to "circle the wagons" and create a feeling of security. L-12 governs the imagination, and grants psychic sensitivity to perceive non-material phenomena. The native reportedly felt secure only in his garden, in the company of plant spirits, in the sanctuary of his home. 

Budha/Budha period

• cancer diagnosis; quick spread

• treatment for tumor of throat, lung, and brain: 1997

Budha/L-8 Shukra

• near death = 30-Dec-1999

• Shukra = Kharesha

• a criminally insane man invaded security of Harrison's home [4] and stabbed the native multiple times in the chest.

• Luckily for George Harrison, his strong & capable second wife [her karaka = Shani, L-4] helped capture the intruder.

• [L-2 for second marriage = Kuja, athletic strength.]

Budha/Surya/Rahu period:

• Vargottama Surya in rashi of Shani causes oppression of the creative intelligence by authoritarian personalities and structures, such as tax and legal penalties (Pitru-sapa Suta-kshaya yoga). 

• This "pay the piper" condition of Surya is increased considerably by the presence of Surya's lord Shani in domain-8 of hidden troubles. 

Death = 29-Nov-2001

•  medical cause of death = lung cancer

• Surya occupies a Shastyamsha of Kumbha, bringing the misfortune of "paying consequences" into every Surya period.

• Surya occupies the maraka-2nd-from-mahadasha-pati Budha, and Surya rules the 8th-from-Budha, while both Budha and Surya are ruled by Shani in "sudden, forced changes" domain-8. Domain-8 indicates the "conditions of death".

• The sub-period of Rahu grossly exaggerates Surya's Pitru-sapa Suta-kshaya yoga empowerment, 

Transits at the time of death:

• Empowered Shani: The brutal "Second Saturn Return" of one's late-fifth-decade was in force. 

  • Shani had just passed his natal place by transit.

• Empowered Guru: The fifth "Guru Return" was also in process, with L-3/L-6 Guru transiting with one degree of the natal position. 

• Gochara Rahu-Ketu were transiting Mithuna-Dhanusha

• Effect of Disease via Rahu + L-6 = unusually potent. Rahu + Guru transiting navamsha Budha also.

• Guru = "owner/operator" of maraka L-2/L-7 Kuja. However Kuja was not an active timelord in the Vimshottari dasha.

• Empowered Maraka Kuja: transiting uchcha Mangala in Makara rashi, contact navamsha Surya. Considering Surya's existing difficulties, contact from the transiting L-2/L-7 Kuja would be pushing Surya toward physical death.

Conditions of Death =

• uchcha Shukra (L-8) =  conflict in sensual love and artistic expression.

• In the physical body = throat cancer which had reportedly spread to the brain and the lungs, after a lifetime of drugs and cigarette smoking, at 58.

L-4 Shani in domain-8 does destabilize the physical security in the current life, and make it hard to defend one's properties - both material and intellectual.

However, L-4 also controls "the end of things". When the End lord occupies the Transformation house-8, at an auspicious 5-9 angle from swakshetra, the outcome of the End is a total tantric transformation.

Conditions surrounded the quantum leap from body into spirit are heavy, but the end result is, alchemically, highly successful. Iron is transformed into Gold.

Countless millions were saddened by Harrison's death, and radio stations across the Anglosphere played his songs for many days.

 He remains a spiritual icon for many within his religious organization, and a beacon of mystical perception to music fans worldwide.
