Chopra is recognized as a major international authority on integration of the ancient East Indian science of "Ayurveda" with contemporary practices in western allopathic medicine.

• He is largely responsible for the late-20th-century introduction of Ayurvedic medicine into the North American & European alternative health systems. 

• Dr. Chopra has also helped rejuvenate (Chandra-8) Ayurvedic medical practice in the western-leaning strata of middle-class professional India.

• lagnesha  = domain-6, mark of human services ministry (medicine) in Karkata rashi. Karkata = endocrine system.

Fame: 10th-from-Arudha-lagna & Kala-Sarpa Yoga

• from the Jyotisha perspective, Chopra's fame is a remarkably complex product of:

  • parivartana yoga exchanging Shukra-Kuja, domain-9 & domain-10

  • Kala-Sarpa Yoga

  10th-from-Arudha-lagna = Domain-11 = Dhanau, unoccupied

• native is well-known due to complex association of Lord of Dhanau = Guru with L-3/L-10 Kuja (writing, leadership); L-5-L-8 Budha (children, creativity, transformative healing); and L-7 Surya (balance, individual choice). 

• Total public impression = "balanced life through balanced life practices"

• probably more influential than 10th-from-Arudha lagna in Chopra's case is his amazing Kala-Sarpa Yoga

• All grahas occupy the range between Rahu & Ketu.

Karmaa Bhava [10th-from-radix-lagna]

• Vrischika, containing Ketu & Shukra.  Important: Shukra has parivartana with His lord Kuja, so we see a highly auspicious yoga of the 9th & 10th houses.

• Vrischika is about secrets & healing.  Ketu is meditation & intuition.  Shukra is beauty & pleasure.  In themselves, this group might give a dynamic career in mystical healing, drawing from ancient tantric traditions, which could range from massage therapy to psychiatry. 

• The focus is balance of male & female energies because Shukra occupies Kuja's sign.

L-10 & Aspects to L-10 - public status

L-10 - Kuja, who has plenty of company in dharma bhava. He is yuti Budha, Guru, and fallen Surya. 

• Note the extremely auspicious parivartana yoga of Shukra & Kuja who are the 9th & 10th lords! Here is some extraordinary religious & spiritual power.

• This individual does achieve, in his lifetime, successful balance of male & female energies.  And he is able due to the prominence of 9th & 10th houses, to bring his balancing knowledge to the public in a persona which combines priestly (house-9) and public-authority (house-10) energy.  

• Thus, a spiritual practitioner in a credentialed religious lineage, who also carries public respect through his authority as a licensed western physician.  This is a powerful and influential leader/guru package.

Lord of 10th Navamsha -and- Lord of the navamsha sign occupied by radix-10 

Lord of 10th navamsha is Shani.

• L-10 = Kuja, who rises in navamsha.  Lord of navamsha of L-10 is Shukra.  

• Therefore Shukra directs the career.  Shukra's auspicious parivartamsha yoga with Chopra's L-10 Kuja directs the career powerfully.   

• Shukra = karaka for beauty, including rejuvenation.

Mantreswara's Phaladeepika says that the method of earning a living is determined by the navamsha sign occupied by radix L-10. 

In this nativity, 

• radix L-10 = Kuja 

• Kuja occupies a navamsha of Shukra

Dr. Chopra is certainly possessed of his own poetic talents. In addition, payment that supports his livelihood comes largely from women, from those interested in luxury, beauty, and pleasure; in royal association, and in living well. 

Shukra occupies Vrischika (endocrine system) + Ketu in radix, and Shukra occupies Kanya (fear of unattractiveness) in navamsha. These specialties fund the professional support.

10th-from-Chandra - psycho-emotional true profession

• 10th-from-Chandra = Mithuna, unoccupied.  Mithuna rules speaking, writing, gesturing - all media of communication. Emotionally, Chopra wants to communicate. 

• L-5/L-8 Budha, lord of Mithuna, shares dharma bhava with L-10/L-3 Kuja (media career), L-2/L-11 Guru (values, wealth) & fallen L-7 Surya (relationships, advising). 

• All this operates through the dharma house, so the context of his service is always religious & spiritual tradition.  His persona & his motive are priestly. 

L-12 in domain-6

When L-12 goes into the house of argumentation, conflict, victims and the underclass, then one loses one's ability to negotiate conflicts. There may follow some desperate actions which are perceived to be "options of last resort" in order to "solve the problem" of the impending loss of personal identity, caused (it is perceived) by enemies, by disease, or by debt. 

Thus the opportunity for unintended criminal consequences of rather confused (12) actions, those actions being ultimately manipulated by the spirits on the astral plane (mainly ancestor spirits) who speak in the dream voice. 

If L-12 is an aggressive graha, the result could be violent. But generally the result is somewhat diffused. 

E.g., 

• for Richard Nixon, that graha is Chandra - Nixon had lifelong emotional problems with suspiciousness and feeling victimized, which got the better of him during the Watergate break-in. 

• For Krishnamurti, that graha was Guru. The threat to his identity came from a religious group, and he fended off the threat by breaking his promise to lead the group. 

• For Deepak Chopra M.D., that graha is Shani in a friendly rashi. The threat to identity is rigid, herd-mentality convention in the practice of professional medicine. Chopra cast off that threat by breaking through the oppressive limitations of conventional western medicine and introducing Ayurvedic longevity concepts into the western repertory. In his case Shani is extra-strong as lagnesha, so the results while stressful to the native were ultimately beneficial to society.

Surya ; 10th-from-Surya - ego identification

• The ego is clearly identified with preaching & the guru role, as it would be for anyone with Ravi in radix-9, in any rashi.  Surya in 9 wants to promote a particular tradition and particular way of life, according to their training.  Not good for the native's father but paternal behavior is extended to the students & the audience. 

• Native is strongly identified with the fatherly role.  

• However Ravi is fallen here and not rescued by any helpful conditions.  Luckily Ravi is strong in navamsha which helps public dignity.
