In Jyotisha, there are four main wealth houses: |
|
||||||||||||||||
|
Shukra = "Gathering", Pleasuring, Luxury |
In Jyotisha, the karaka for a topic should be examined before evaluating the smaller details such as yoga, house lordship etc.. As the karaka of for accumulated wealth, Lord Shukra is extremely influential in matters of learning, knowledge of history and languages, music, money and sensual luxury. Shukra's condition can over-determine the level of savings, gambling wins, and marketplace income within the nativity. The only source of wealth that Shukra does not affect, because it is not held or stored, is the wealth which one may attract in support of humanistic, religious, and philosophical projects (see bhava-9, below).
Shukra = a magnet that attracts sensual pleasures and yokes the source of those pleasures into a contractual balance. The magnetically attractive powers of a strong Shukra can trump any number of anti-wealth yoga. The strongest positions of Shukra are generally the uchcha Shukra, neechcha bhanga Shukra, and the Shukra-specific Malavya Yoga. And the converse is also true: a weak or compromised position of the daityaguru generally points to a low-functioning pleasure magnet that implies non-hoarding or even anti-hoarding behavior. Empowered Shukra is a highly reliable indicator of energized acquisitiveness, which is much enhanced through the agency of partnership. For males Shukra additionally indicates the beauty of the wife or partner; for females Shukra is a better indicator of her own entitlement to validation for her beauty, her grace, her artistic sensibilities, and her ability to attract wealth. Disempowered Shukra indicates an inability or an unwillingness to gather . When the gathering karaka is not energized, the native lacks an impetus to collect and store the excess material resources that make one "rich".

1 = 12th ghosts-from-2nd hoard |
Ironically perhaps the strongest agent for loss of "holdings" is the agent of "eating" which is the vital, moving, energy-burning physical body. The mother-of-all-resources being of course FOOD, the dissolving agent is the annamayakosha or "food-eating-body" which consumes the stored assets. If bhava-1 is stronger than bhava-2, the person can be an athlete, laborer, or other physical-based lifestyle who eats much more 'resource' than they are ever able to save. |

Combinations of L-2 and L-11 |
Total monetary wealth is a combination of:
The yoga between 11th gains = incoming wealth -and- 2nd hoard = wealth retained -- will show the native's lifetime, overall financial situation. Should L-2 and L-11 be juxtaposed in a 6/8 angle, less favorable financial results occur. For example, if a person is blessed with a favorable financial yoga such as 2nd hoard lord in the 11th gains house, one will be born into financially comfortable family circumstances, and through the money skills and values learned in that family, one will continue to produce one's own wealth throughout their adult lives. self-made wealth is Sahaja bhava-3 in radix. Sahaja-3= on the principle of bhavat bhavam =
"2nd hoard-from-2nd hoard" = compounded,
self-developed wealth.
The native takes stored wealth (2) and performs one further iteration with
the capital, which is to develop it via commercial business. It is the
narrative emerging from the native's own mentality (3) which energizes the
new manifestation of wealth from activities of busy-ness (business). In order for 3 to produce wealth, its
basis bhava-2 must be strong. I.e., the native must have access to
capital with which to develop the commerce. When bhava-3 is much stronger than
bhava-2 but bhava-2 is not damaged, the native's largest wealth
comes not directly from one's own family but rather through one's own
personal commercial enterprise.
bhava-3 is strong in the nativities of entrepreneurs.
Parivartamsha yoga of L-1 in bhava-3 + L-3 in bhava-1 = wealth through siblings:
"If Sahaja's lord is in Karma Bhava, the native will have all lands of happiness and self-made wealth, and be interested in nurturing wicked females." -- BPHS Ch. 24, Shloka 34 If Bandhu's lord is in Sahaja Bhava, the native will be valorous, will have servants, be liberal, virtuous and charitable, and will possess self-earned wealth. He will be free from diseases. -- BPHSCh. 24, Shloka 39 |

Brihaspati's Dharma bhava-9= the strongest of all wealth houses = 11th gains-from-11th gains+ 5th luck-from-5th luck. Natives with power in bhava-9 are typically members of the priesthood of world guides who are not in public view. They have access to massive resources.

An Accountable Woman |
There was a man who had worked all of his life and had saved all of his money and was really tight when it came to his money. He loved money more than just about anything, and just before he died, he said to his wife, "Now listen. When I die, I want you to take all my money and put it in the casket with me. I want to take my money to the afterlife with me." And so he got his wife to promise him with all of her heart that when he died, she would put all of the money in the casket with him. Well, he died. He was stretched out in the casket, his wife was sitting there in black, and her friend was sitting next to her. When they finished the ceremony, just before the undertakers got ready to close the casket, the wife said, "Wait a minute!" She had a box with her, she came over with the box and put it in the casket. Then the undertakers locked the casket down, and they rolled it away. So her friend said "Girl, I know you weren't fool enough to put all that money in there with your husband." "I am a GOOD WOMAN, I can't go back on my word. I promised him that I was going put that money in that casket with him." "You mean to tell me you put all that money in the casket with him?" "I sure did," said the wife. "I wrote him a check." |

Marriage as a primary container of Capital |
Shukra the kalatrakaraka is also the dhanakaraka. A strong Shukra indicates wealth, diplomacy, and a profound understanding of the material value of marriage. For example, during the very public marriage crisis faced by Hillary Clinton due to her then-president husband's flagrant sexual misconduct, she nevertheless maintained the marriage and never resorted to divorce.
Shukra's dominance in her life at the time of the marriage crisis determined that she would conserve (Shukra) the financial, political and social capital (Shukra) of her marriage rather than react in litigious anger. Indeed her decision to maintain trust (Shukra) during the catastrophe (Shukra = L-8) laid the financial, political, and social (and moral) foundation for an exceptionally influential career in public service, which followed the end of her personal crisis. |

| Greed H.H. Dalai Lama : Healing Anger: The Power of Patience from a Buddhist Perspective. Trans. Geshe Thupten Jinpa. p.32 |
"Greed is a form of desire. However, it is an exaggerated form of desire, based on overexpectation. The true antidote of greed is contentment. For a practicing Buddhist, for a Dharma practitioner, many practices can act as a kind of counterforce to greed:
These views also help an individual to counteract greed. But in terms of an immediate response to greed, one way is to reflect upon the excesses of greed, what it does to one as an individual, where it leads. Greed leads one to a feeling of frustration, disappointment, a lot of confusion, and a lot of problems. When it comes to dealing with greed, one thing which is quite characteristic is that
The interesting thing about greed is that although the underlying motive is to seek satisfaction, as I pointed out, even after obtaining the object of one's desire, one is still not satisfied. On the other hand, if one has a strong sense of contentment, it doesn't matter whether one obtains the object or not; either way, one is still content." |

Lotteries and Prizes |
Winnings from Lotteries or any other variety of speculative investment or gambling, whether in casinos, on street curbs, or in the stock market, will occur in periods of the lord of bhava-5 . Sometimes too, speculative wealth may emerge during the period of a fortunate graha in occupation of putra bhava. bhava-5 and its lord = "luck".
When Guru is lord of 5, (Simha and Vrischika lagna) speculative wins are easier to achieve due to the native's positive beliefs and expectations about one's "chances" in gambling, including political elections and winning of prizes. If Guru is well-placed, the native may be consistently lucky in life. Naturally, the most auspicious lord for the obtainment of wealth through creative speculation (gambling) is the money-karaka, Shukra. Mithuna and Makara lagna may be exceptionally lucky in winning political campaigns and being well paid for creative endeavors ( Barack Obama's book deals) as well as amazing gain of wealth through stock market activities ( Bill Gates). |

The Rabbi's Wisdom |
The owner of a well-established, very well respected, third generation family-owned garment business met with his Board of Directors. Due to the recession, business had been very bad. Sales were down and costs were up.
The Board of Directors offered no solutions, so as a last resort the owner decided to seek advice from his Rabbi. He poured out the story, with tears running down his face about the three generations of family sacrifice that had gone into building this once-thriving business. He ended by asking plaintively, "So Rabbi, what should I do?" The Rabbi, a very old and wise man, said nothing for a long time, and then quietly intoned: "So here's vat I vant you should do. Get a beach chair, and a Bible. Put dem in your car. Drive down to de vater's edge. Sit in dis beach chair vit the Bible open on your lap, and let the vind from de sea rifle the pages of de open Bible ..." "Yes Rabbi ...yes?!..." encouraged the business owner, completely at a loss for any better ideas. "... and ven the pages stop turning in the vind I vant you should look down at dat page, and read de first thing you see.
A year passes ... and the business owner (not a very religious man) returns to pay a visit to the Rabbi. The man is wearing a brand new $2000 handmade Italian suit; his wife looked stunning in her new mink coat; they had driven to see the Rabbi in their brand BMW 740i Sedan. The business owner discretely pulled the Rabbi aside and slipped an envelope to him, stuffed with money. "Rabbi" he whispered, "this is a little something for you and your wife, and here's also a check for $25,000 toward your congregation." The Rabbi, although very old, remembered the man. "So, you did vat I said?" "Absolutely!" "You vent to de beach?" "Yes I did!" "And you sat in de beach chair vit the Bible open on your lap?" "Yes Rabbi. Absolutely!" "And you let de vind rifle through de pages until dey stopped?" "Absolutely!" "And vat vere de first words that you read on dat page?"

Q: Dear Madame, I am consumed by a desire for wealth and I hope you will tell me when I can expect to realize this dream of mine. |
Since many years, I have fantasized about
millions perhaps billions of dollars. I dream of employing thousands of
workers. I want to own cities and towns, cargo ships and railcars, factories and office buildings. I understand
Donald Trump's attraction to luxury office towers because I too want
to own skyscapers - several of them - with my name in gold letters
over the doorway. I come from a very poor background. My father
suffered alcoholism and beat my mother violently. Indeed we were too poor to buy
food at times and I remember my mother being in some compromising
situations. It was horrible. I am happy to say that she is better now
and my father has passed, which means I hope that I am free to build
my dream of huge wealth that will provide jobs, health, and security
for thousands if not millions of people. Do you see it in my chart?
And when? |

A: Namaste, It's very widespread in the culture of course, but usually when a person has a truly burning ego-desire for money, fame, and respect from others on the outside, it is compensatory not authentic as one is lacking value, importance, and self-regard on the inside. |
Try to look inside and find the deep emotional wound that is driving all of this Rahu-desire for skyscrapers and gold letter nameplates. Even if you do achieve a high level of materialization I am sorry to say that sensual pleasure and the praise of outside people are fleeting at best, and no amount of money will - in itself - ever make a person happy. Money combined with charity, money combined with education, money combined with good works, good intenetions, and good design - yes, money combined with higher purposes can do wonderful things! But by their nature . money and material property ownership - fixed wealth (4) and moveable wealth (2) -- cannot provide the sole basis for happiness, because they are external things. Happiness comes only from inside. Years ago, I read for a fellow some years ago who declared that he owned California wine properties valued at US-27 million. It's true that in his particular industry, 27 million is perhaps less than fully adequate to manage and develop successful vineyards through climate variation, economic cycles etc. But double that, say 60 million, would be a quite good capitalization in that industry (or it was at the time). The industry was doing well and it was reasonable to expect that his worth would keep increasing so that he would soon own all the property and equipment he needed to operate a substantial and prosperous investment. The nativity supported good relationships with bankers and plenty of wealth from wines (Vrishabha on 10th law navamsha and Shukra very well disposed in radix.) However, this man told me that he could not be satisfied until he had at least 1 billion US, since for him 27 million felt 'like a worthless street-sweeper'. He wanted as a life's desire to be included in the club with the high players, where he imagined he would get some 'real' recognition and respect. He wanted to know when and where he would hit the magic 1 billion mark which for him meant 'finally real happiness'. Until that day arrived, he was miserable - criticizing himself for wasting time on small matters and feeling that he was not really 'successful'. I had to feel sorry for this fellow despite his remarkable intelligence as it came out in the follow-up that he had suffered humiliation and disregard from his fathers-side relatives when growing up, in a dramatic situation where his mother was thrown out with her children on the street and they lived like beggars. He was determined to get big and strong and rich and SHOW THEM how important he was. Naturally his never-satisfied fantasies depended on getting respect from males (father-side, decision-makers) and getting control of infinite monies to ensure that his mother was never humiliated again. This script was looping over and over again in his subconscious, but he never looked inside to find the engine that was driving his insatiable desire for money. Even with 27 million net worth he felt unhappy, unsatisfied, invalidated, and powerless. Since he never addressed the inner wounds that were causing his distress, his 27 million still felt 'like a pauper' and he was more unhappy each day, striving to get more more more external validation but never feeling healed. Money is always a result, never a cause Whenever I am asked about fantasy money like winning a huge lottery, the mythical big break, or any sudden external event which supposedly will create instant and complete personal validation, I always wonder what the person is trying to compensate. Remember that money is the result of something, never the cause of anything. The cause of happiness must lie within. |

Truly Solving Problems |
"We feel that money and power can bring happiness and solve problems, but they are not definite causes of those desired states. If that were so, it would follow that those who have wealth would necessarily have happiness, and those who do not have wealth would always experience suffering.
As we can see, there are many people who have wealth and power who remain unhappy, due to which their health declines, and they are always taking medicines.
In other words, there are certain states of mind which bring us problems, and they can be removed; we need to make an effort in that direction. Likewise, there are certain states of mind that bring us peace and happiness, and we need to cultivate and enhance them." |

Thinking outside the box |
Young Chuck moved to Texas and bought a donkey from a farmer for $100.00. The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day. The next day he drove up and said, "Sorry son, but I have some bad news. The donkey died." Chuck replied, "Well, then, just give me my money back." The farmer said, "Can't do that. I went and spent it already." Chuck said, "Ok, then, just bring me the dead donkey." The farmer asked, "What ya gonna do with him? Chuck said, "I'm going to raffle him off." The farmer said, "You can't raffle off a dead donkey!" Chuck said, "Sure I can. Watch me. I just won't tell anybody he's dead." A month later, the farmer met up with Chuck and asked, "What happened with that dead donkey?" Chuck said, "I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at two dollars a piece and made a profit of $898.00." The farmer said, "Didn't anyone complain?" Chuck said, "Just the guy who won. So I gave him his two dollars back." |
