Chandra Yogas - BPHS Ch. 37

Pijan commentary

BPHS text

1. Chandra's angle to Surya

  • kendra ( 1-3-7-10 houses from Ravi)

  • panaphara (houses 2-5-8-11 houses from Ravi)

  • apoklima (houses 3-6-9-12 houses from Ravi)

If Chandra with reference to Surya

  • is in a Kendra, one's wealth, intelligence and skill will be little

  • if in a Panaphara, will be middling,

  • if in a Apoklima, will be excellent.

2-4. Chandra day birth

  • in own Navamsha,

  • OR in a friendly Navamsha

  • AND Drishti from Guru

Chandra night birth

  • in own Navamsha,

  • OR in a friendly Navamsha

  • AND Drishti from Shukra

In the case of a day birth, if

  • Chandra, placed in its own Navamsha, or in a friendly Navamsha, receives a Drishti from Guru, one will be endowed with wealth and happiness.

One born at night time will enjoy similar effects,

  • if Chandra is in its own Navamsha, or in a friendly Navamsha, receiving a Drishti from Shukra.

In a contrary situation, the Drishti from Guru, or from Shukra on Chandra will make one go with little wealth, or even without that.

5. Adhi Yoga from Chandra:

  • benefics in 6th, 7th AND 8th from-Chandra

  • If benefics occupy the 8th, 6th and 7th, counted from Chandra, Adhi Yoga obtains.

  • According to the strength of the participating Grahas, the native concerned will be either a king, or a minister, or an Army chief.

According to the strength of the participating Grahas, the native concerned will be either a king, or a minister, or an Army chief.

6. Dhana Yoga.

  • Guru, Shukra, AND Budha

  • all occupy 3, 6, 10 or 11 from Chandra

OR

  • two out of the group (of Guru, Shukra, Budha)

  • both occupy 3, 6, 10 or 11 from Chandra

OR

  • one out of the group (of Guru, Shukra, Budha)

  • occupies 3, 6, 10 or 11 from Chandra

  • Should all the (three) benefics be Upachaya, counted from Chandra, one will be very affluent.

  • With two benefics, placed in the 3rd, the 6th, the 10th and the 11th, one will have medium effects in regard to wealth

  • If a single benefic is there, the wealth will be negligible.

7-10.

Sunapha yoga

  • any planet except Ravi in 2nd-from-Soma

Anapha Yoga

  • any planet except Ravi in 12th-from-Soma

Duradhara Yoga

  • any planet except Ravi in

  • BOTH 2nd-from-Soma AND 12th-from-Soma

If there is

  • a Graha other than Surya, in the 2nd from Chandra, Sunapha Yoga is formed,

  • if in the 12th from Chandra, Anapha Yoga is formed

  • and, if in both the 2nd and 12th from Chandra, Duradhara Yoga is caused.

One with Sunapha Yoga will be a king, or equal to a king, endowed with intelligence, wealth, fame and self-earned wealth.

One born in Anapha Yoga will be a king, be free from diseases, virtuous, famous, charming and happy.

One born in Duradhara Yoga will enjoy pleasures, will be charitable and endowed with wealth, conveyances and excellent serving force.

11-13. Kema Druma Yoga.

  • no planet other than Surya with Soma

  • AND no planet in 2nd or 12th from Soma

  • AND no planet in a kendra from lagna

Excluding Surya, should there be no Graha with Chandra, or in the 2nd and/or 12th from Chandra, or in a Kendra from Lagna, Kema Druma Yoga is formed.

One born in Kema Druma Yoga will be very much reproached, will be bereft of intelligence, learning, reduced to penury and perils.

Surya Yogas - BPHS Ch. 38

1.

Vesi yoga = 2nd-from-Ravi

Vosi yoga =  12th-from-Ravi

Abhayachari Yoga = both 2nd-and-12th from Ravi

  • Barring Chandra, if a Graha among Mangala etc. be in the 2nd from Surya, Vesi Yoga is formed,

  • if in the 12th from Surya, Vosi Yoga is formed and

  • if in both the 2nd and the 12th from Surya, Ubhayachari Yoga is caused

2-3.

Effects of Vesi, Vosi and Ubhayachari Yogas.

  • One born in Vesi Yoga will be even sighted, truthful, long-bodied, indolent, happy and endowed with negligible wealth.

  • One born with Vosi Yoga will be skilful, charitable and endowed with fame, learning and strength.

  • The Ubhayachari native will be a king, or equal to a king and be happy.

4.

Benefics vs. malefics, causing Vesi, Vosi, or Ubhayachari Yogas

  • will give the above-mentioned effects,

  • while malefics will produce contrary effects.

BPHS Raja Yogas, Ch. 39

1-2. O excellent of the Brahmins, I now narrate below the Raja Yogas, making one entitled to royal honor.

These were told to Parvati by Lord Shiva once upon a time, the gist of which is, as follows.

3-5.

Raja Yogas from karakamsha lagna and radix lagna:

  • Atmakaraka plus lL-5

  • lagnesha plus L-5

Raja Yogas are to be known from the Karakamsha Lagna and the natal Lagna

  • On the one hand the pair of Atma Karaka and Putra Karaka should be considered

  • and on the other hand the natal Lagna's Lord and Putra's Lord should be taken into consideration.

The effects, due to such association, will be full, or a half, or a quarter, according to their strengths.

6-7 MahaRaja yoga:

When a benefic sends drishti to:

  • parivartana of lagnesha and L-5

OR

  • atmakaraka with L-5

occupying ANY OF THESE:

  • lagna

  • house-5

  • uccha

  • swakshetra

  • swanavamsha

Should

  • Lagna's Lord and Putra's Lord exchange their Rasis

  • or, if Atma Karaka and Putra Karaka (Char) are in Lagna,

  • or in Putra Bhava,

  • or in the exaltation Rashi,

  • or in own Rashi,

  • or in own Navamsha,

  • receiving a Drishti from a benefic,

MahaRaja Yoga is produced.

The native so born will be famous and happy.

8.  lagnesha & atmakaraka

  • in house 1, 5, or 7

  • AND get yuti or drishti from benefic

If Lagna's Lord and Atma Karak are

  • in Tanu, Putra, or Yuvati Bhava,

  • yuti with, or receiving a Drishti from a benefic,

a Raja Yoga is formed.

9-10.

Benefics in 2nd, 4th, or 5th

  • from lagnesha

  • OR from atmakaraka

Should there be

  • benefics in the 2nd, the 4th and the 5th,

  • counted either from Lagna's Lord,

  • or from Atma Karaka Rashi,

one will become a king.

malefic in 3rd-from AND 6th-from lagnesha

OR

malefic in 3rd-from AND 6th- from atmakaraka

Similarly

  • malefics in the 3rd and 6th from Lagna's Lord,

  • or from Atma Karaka Rashi

will make one a king.

11.

Shukra:

  • is karakamsha

  • OR in 5th from karakamsha

  • OR occupies lagna

  • OR occupies Arudha lagna

  • AND receives drishti OR yuti from

  • EITHER Guru OR Chandra

One will be related to royal circles,

  • if Shukra is the Karakamsha,

  • or in the 5th there from,

  • or in Lagna,

  • or in Arudha Lagna,

  • receiving a Drishti from, or yuti with Guru, or Chandra.

12.

any planet casting drishti upon

  • lagna

  • hora lagna

  • ghatika lagna

Even, if a single Graha

  • gives a Drishti to the natal Lagna,

  • or Hora Lagna,

  • or Ghatika Lagna,

the native will become a king.

13-14.

Shad vargas of lagna

If the Shad Vargas of Lagna

  • are occupied,

  • or receive a Drishti from one and the same Graha,

a Raja Yoga is doubtlessly formed.

Accordingly, if the Drishti is full, half, or one fourth, results will be in order full, medium and negligible.

15.

If the 3 Lagnas (natal, Hora and Ghatik)

  • are occupied by Grahas in exaltation,

  • or in own Rashi,

  • or, if the natal Lagna, the Dreshkana Lagna and the Navamsha Lagna have exalted Grahas,

Raja Yoga is formed.

16.

If

  • Chandra and a benefic are in the Arudha Lagna,

  • as Guru is in the 2nd from the natal Lagna

  • and both these places are receiving Drishtis from Grahas in exaltation,

  • or Grahas in own Rasi,

there will be a Raja Yoga.

If

  • Lagna, Dhana and Bandhu Bhava are occupied by benefics,

  • while a malefic is in Sahaj Bhava,

one will become a king, or equal to a king.

18.

uccha Soma, Guru, Shukra, or Budha

  • occupies house-2

The native will be wealthy, if one among

  • Chandra,

  • Guru,

  • Shukra and

  • Budha

is exalted in Dhana Bhava.

19.

  • house 3, 6, 8 occupied by neechha grahas

  • lagnesha = uccha or swakshetra

  • lagnesha drishti to lagna

If

  • Ari, Randhra and Sahaja Bhava are occupied by debilitated Grahas,

  • as Lagna's Lord is exalted, or is in own Bhava

  • and gives a Drishti to Lagna,

there is a Raja Yoga.

20.

  • L-6,  L-8, or L-12 = neeccha, combust, OR in enemy's rashi

  • AND lagnesha is swakshetra or uccha

  • AND lagnesha drishti to lagna

20. Again a Raja Yoga is formed,

  •  if Ari's, Randhr's and Vyaya's Lords are in fall,

  • or in inimical Rashis,

  • or in combustion,

  • as Lagna's Lord, placed in his own Rasi, or in its exaltation Rasi, gives a Drishti to Lagna.

21

Raja yoga from L-10

21. If Karma's Lord,

  • placed in his own Bhava,

  • or in its exaltation Rasi,

  • gives a Drishti to Lagna,

a Raja Yoga is formed. Similar is the case, if benefics are in Kendras.

22.

Yogas from Atmakaraka Graha

22. If

  • the Atma Karaka Graha is in a benefic's Rashi/Navamsha,

the native will be wealthy.

If there are

  • benefics in Kendras from Karakamsha Lagna,

he will become a king.

23.

Yogas from Arudha lagna and Dara Pada

23. If

  • the Arudha Lagna and Dara Pada are in mutual Kendras,

  • or in mutual Sahaja/Labha Bhavas,

  • or in mutual Konas,

the native will doubtlessly become a king

24.

Yogas from Bhava, Hora, and Ghatika lagnas

24. If

  • two, or all, of Bhava, Hora, Ghatik Lagnas

  • are receiving a Drishti from exalted Grahas,

a Raja Yoga is formed.

25.

More Yogas from Bhava, Hora, and Ghatika lagnas

If

  • Bhava, Hora and Ghatika Lagnas,

  • their Dreshkhanas and Navamshas,

  • or the said Lagnas and their Navamshas,

  • or the said Lagnas and their Dreshkhanas

  • receive a Drishti from a Graha,

a Raja Yoga is formed.

26-27.

Yogas from Arudha pada

 If

  • Arudha Pada is occupied by an exalted Graha, particularly Chandra in exaltation,

  • or by Guru and/or Shukra (with, or without exaltation),

  • while there is no Argala by a malefic,

the native will become a king.

If

  • the Arudha Pada is a benefic Rashi, containing Chandra,

  • while Guru is in Dhana Bhava,

the same effect will prevail.

28.

Yogas from Neecha lords of house-6, house-8, & house-12

Even, if

  • one among Ari's, Randhra's and Vyaya's Lords,

  • being in debilitation,

  • gives a Drishti to Lagna,

there will be a Raja Yoga.

29-31.

Yogas from

  • L-2, L-4, L-10 and L-11

  • Shukra

  • Arudha lagna and 11th-from-Arudha

  • neechha graha in house 3, 6, 8, 11 or 12

The native will become a king, if

  • a Graha, ruling Bandhu, Karma, Dhana, or Labha,

  • gives a Drishti to Lagna,

  • while Shukra gives a Drishti to the 11th from Arudha Lagna,

  • as Arudha Lagna is occupied by a benefic.

The same effect will be obtained, if

  • a debilitated Graha gives a Drishti to Lagna

  • and is placed in Ari, or Randhra Bhava.

Again similar result will prevail, if

  • a debilitated Graha, placed in Sahaja, or Labha Bhava,

  • gives a Drishti to Lagna.

32. I now tell you of the Raja Yogas,

  • based on the Grahas with different dignities

  • and on the Drishtis and Yutis of the Grahas.

33-34.

L-9 and L-5, the Ministers

Dharma's Lord is akin to a minister and more especially Putra's Lord. If

  • these two Grahas mutually give a Drishti,

the native will obtain a kingdom. Even, if

  • these two are yuti in any Bhava,

  • or, if they happen to be placed in mutually 7th places,

one born of royal scion will become a king.

35.

  • L-4 in house-10

  • AND L-10 in house-4

  • AND L-4 and L-10 cast drishti to L-5 and L-9

35. The native will attain a kingdom, if

  • Bandhu's Lord is in Karma Bhava

  • and Karma's Lord is in Bandhu Bhava

  • and, if these Grahas give a Drishti to Putra's and Dharma's Lords.

36.

  • L-1, L-4, L-5, and L-10

  • all occupying house-9

36. If

  • the Lords of Putra, Karma, Bandhu and Lagna

  • are yuti in Dharma Bhava,

one will become a ruler with fame, spreading over the four directions.

37.

  • L-4 or L-10

  • yuti EITHER L-5 or L-9

Should

  • the Lord of Bandhu, or of Karma Bhava

  • join either the Putra's Lord, or Dharma's Lord,

the native will obtain a kingdom.

38.

  •  L-5 in house-1 OR house-4 OR house-10

  • yuti L-9 or L-1

If

  • Putra's Lord is in Lagna, Bandhu, or Karma Bhava,

  • yuti with Dharma's Lord,

  • or Lagna Lord,

the native will become a king.

39.

  • Guru is Meena OR Dhanau

  • occupying house-9

  • yuti Shukra OR L-5

39. Should

  • Guru be in his own Rashi

  • identical with Dharma Bhava

  • and yuti with either Shukra, or Putra's Lord,

the native will obtain royal status

40. Auspicious birth times:

  • two and a half ghatis from midday

  • two and a half ghatis from midnight

  • Two and a half Ghatis from mid-day,

  • or from mid-night

 is auspicious time.

A birth during such an auspicious time will cause one to be a king, or equal to him.

41.

? (rashidrishti?)

Should

  • Chandra and Shukra be mutually in Sahaja and Labha Bhava

  • and receiving Drishtis from each other,

  • while they are placed elsewhere,

a Raja Yoga is obtained.

42.

  • Vargottamsha (Vargottama) Chandra

42. Should

  • Chandra, endowed with strength,

  • be Vargottamsha

  •  and receives a Drishti from four, or more Grahas,

the native will become a king.

43.

  • Uttamamsha lagna

One will become a king, if

  • Lagna in Uttamamsha

  •  receives a Drishti from four, or more Grahas,

  • out of which Chandra should not be one.

44.

  • one, two, or three uccha graha

If

  • one, or two, or three Grahas are in exaltation,

one of a royal scion will become a king,

while another will be equal to a king, or be wealthy.

45.

If

  • four, or five Grahas occupy their exaltation Rashis,

  • or Mooltrikona Rasis,

even a person of base birth will become king.

46.

  • six uccha graha

If

  • six Grahas are exalted,

the native will become emperor and will enjoy various kinds of royal paraphernalia.

47.

  • uccha Guru, Shukra, or Budha

  • along with a benefic in kendra

Even, if

  • one among Guru, Shukra and Budha is in exaltation,

  • while a benefic is in a Kendra,

the native will become a king, or be equal to him.

48.

A royal entitlement from lowly origins:

  • all benefics in 1, 4, 7, or 10

  • all malefics in 3, 6, 11

If

  • all benefics are relegated to Kendras,

  • while malefics are in Sahaja, Ari and Labha Bhava,

the native, though may be of mean descent, will ascend the throne.
