Radiating

H.H. Dalai Lama,

  • Healing Anger: The Power of Patience from a Buddhist Perspective. Geshe Thupten Jinpa (Trans.).

".. Maitreya, in his text the Sublime Continuum, gives three reasons on the basis of which one can conclude that the essence of Buddhahood permeates the minds of all sentient beings.

First, he says that the Buddha's activities radiate in the heart of all sentient beings.

Now this can be understood in two different ways:

  • one is that we can understand thatin every sentient being there is a seed of virtue,

  • and one could see the seed of virtue as an act of the completely enlightened, compassionate Buddha.

But one could also see it in deeper terms, that is, that all sentient beings possess the potential for perfection.

Therefore , there is a kind of perfected being inherent within all sentient beings, radiating. So one can understand it in these ways.

Second, so far as the ultimate nature of reality is concerned, there is total equality between the samsaric state and nirvana.

Third, we all possess a mind which lacks intrinsic reality and independent existence,

which allows us to then remove the negativities and delusory states that obscure it.

For these three reasons, Maitreya concludes that All sentient beings possess the essence of Buddhahood."

Surya in bhava-12

One's natural genius seeks to be in the center of politics, drama, games, and creative performance.

  • "Independent and Roaming."

  • Self-confident and glowing.

  • Regal in attitude and in appearance.

Favors red color garments and golden ornaments. Rich red pigment and dyes in paint and textiles.

In Magha, bejeweled in magical ornaments, rubies and garnet stones.

Bemused. Creative. Elite.

Courteous and charismatic. Radiates in the center of a room, a royal court, a theatrical stage, a political assembly. Impatient with the commonplace, conformist, and pedestrian. Intolerant of both excessive sensuality (Shukra) and oppressive fear (Shani).

Vimshottari dasha Periods of Surya evoke extraordinary independence of thought and behavior, often characterized specifically by Simha's classic 'roaming in high mountains and jungles'. One requires attention, praise, admiration, and a central role in the current environment.

Father (Surya)

The father is self-confident and regal in bearing. Typically the father is politically involved. However the degree of involvement may be major or minor, depending on the total condition of Surya. For example, the father might be head of the village panchyat, a union shop steward in an urban factory, or a local party boss.

  • The father of Emperor 1804-1815 Napoleon Bonaparte was a local political leader in Corsica with a military title(Surya + Mangala)

  • The father of USA Pres-37 Lyndon B. Johnson served six elected terms in the Texas State Legislature. Like his son, Sam Johnson was reputed to have a dominating personality. (Surya + Guru + Mangala + Budha + Chandra)

  • The father of writer Leo Tolstoi was a local aristocrat with a gambling (Simha) problem

  • The father of financier Warren Buffet was a US Congressman from Nebraska.

Explicitly concerned to express excellence in individual intelligence.

Very independent minded, magnificent, undeniable entitlement to express one's personal divine creative brilliance. Generally unable to cede authority to others, even in supposedly cooperative contractual arrangements in marriage and employment. Needs to be in charge, often in a dramatic way.

Defining awareness of of noblesse oblige, the aristocratic responsibility for those above to care for those below. Can be patronizing and authoritarian, but also deeply compassionate.

Visible public behavior psychologically driven by childhood memories of regal empowerment and praise for acting with authentic creative certainty.

Political intelligence at maximum strength. Draws on past lifetime leadership memory from previous positions of royal authority. Executive decisiveness and social self-determination at peak power.

Brilliant performer and lecturer, presuming Budha is well-disposed. Extremely confident and yet not overbearing; does not fear public opinion, cow-tows to no one. Self-possessed and morally secure.

  • Like royalty, somewhat distant and exclusive socially.

  • Prefers to socialize with other perceived elite - esp Magha

  • In modern society, may own a business giving commands to others, often a highly authoritative independent consultant.

Rarely works for others, unless in the very top, commanding position of a large organization. Even these top positions in hierarchy are temporary and are most typically gained through royal bloodline, popular election or winning at war rather than step-wise ascent up a bureaucratic hierarchy. Often blessed with excellent advisers and intelligence flowing from them.

Channels divine genius. Typically radiates a vivid spiritual light, but cannot be subservient to church or state. Moral sensibilities = much less influenced by common law (except with Shani drishti) and more influenced by awareness of divine law.

All graha and lagna within Simha content with the distinction between divine law and human law. Surya-in the rashi of Kings has true confidence (true faith) in divine providence, and tends to act properly, but the voice of action is the Self and not the State. One's motive for decisive choice = faith not fear.

Harmed (made more of a commoner) by drishti from Shani in Mithuna, Vrischika, or Kumbha.

If with Guru, advanced knowledge of moral philosophy, and a teacher of social ethics.

If with Budha, elegant but self-referential. A touch of "princess complex", perhaps.

Similar to Surya/Mesha, can be "my way or the highway". Also like Surya/Mesha, does not work well in groups. If this is your employee, give him/her an entrepreneurial territory of their own.

Unlike Surya/Mesha, the self-confidence and social self-perception of Surya/Simha does not depend on Kuja's disposition. This native is maximally independent in thought and action.

Simha/Surya person is usually independently employed, and successful in business due to their elegant but relentless self-confidence. The power of belief in this position is awesome.

Budha is auspicious in all three of the possible rashi positions vis-à-vis Surya/Simha. If Budha is free of harmful drishti, this native is exceptionally "bright" and skillful in their work. However swakshetra Ravi cannot tolerate criticism. Surya/Simha will not remain long in an unappreciative environment.

If Ravi occupies bhava-6 in Simha, Harsha Yoga applies. Excellent for success in medicine, import-export business (esp. medicines) and work in foreign lands, service work in temples. Karaka for a fortunate uncle who is politically well-connected.

"Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot wash it away.

If one were to give all the wealth of his house for love, it would be utterly scorned. "

~~ Song of Solomon 8:7 (New International Version)

Father

For one born with Surya in Simha rashi, the father (or father-figure, who may be the grandfather or other dominant male) is regally self-confident. (Adjusted by drishti and bhava.)

The father is king of his own castle. This man is personally intelligent, perhaps socially recognized as a genius, but it does not matter to this native the estimation of other people. One is sufficient unto oneself in a world containing God and One only.

Father may perceive himself in some fashion to belong to the social or spiritual elite - esp Magha. Unswerving obedience may be required from the child toward this regal father, like a vassal toward their king. During the father's reign, the home is ruled by divine fiat.

Unfortunately unless other graha indicate the softening of humility, the Simha-Surya father can rarely tolerate criticism. Therefore the child's adolescence may be a stressful time, resulting in permanent breakage of the relationship. Again if Surya-Budha enjoy a safe distance (not combust) much less interference.

The child carries on the paternal custom of acting with personal confidence and directly conducting the intelligence of the presence of the divine light. As adults the father and the child may radiate from the same center and shower each other with light.

Royalty-Celebrity in the World or in One's Own Mind

  • Surya in Simha = regally entitled = kingly or queenly in one's own environment, according to the bhava.

  • Nobility of Spirit but also Autocratic and Elitist

  • Surya is somewhat ineffective in natural bhava of Shani and Shukra

  • In rashi of Simha, the self-confidence, self-assertion, and entitlement to reside at the center of attention is fixed.

  1. L-1 Simha Surya = bhava-1 = King or queen of one's own body, brilliant light of confidence emanates from the body, excellent selfishness, a perfect autocrat. Very selective - even elitist - in regard to the personal appearance. Rajiv Gandhi, Napoleon Bonaparte

  2. L-2 Simha Surya = bhava-2 = King of the Bankers. Has a regally entitled way of handling the money, but 2 = Shukra-sthana, so there is bound to be trouble with autocratic finance and sensual tastes. Oracle Database Larry Ellison, USA Pres-42 Bill Clinton; Gov-Sen Louisiana 1928-1935 Huey "Kingfish" Long

  3. L-3 Simha Surya = bhava-3 = King of the messengers. Lords it over the siblings and the work group. Wants to be admired for publishing and writes autocratically. Is not interested in the opinions of others. Announcement by royal decree. Very selective - even elitist - in communications style. Shri Aurobindo Ghosh

  4. L-4 Simha Surya = bhava-4 = King of one's own castle. Royal dominion over one's own home. Splendid house, vehicles, and furnishings. Impatient with schooling and might not go far in the educational world. Self-centered parent, but wishes to be admired for their parenting. Very selective - even elitist - in regard to the home and schooling.

  5. L-5 Simha Surya = bhava-5 = King of the royal court, queen of the theatrical stage; a highly effective and credible political position = creative charismatic performance. Very selective - even elitist - in regard to lovers, children, presentation style.

  6. L-6 Simha Surya = bhava-6 = King of the Servants. Wants to be admired for work in medicine and human services. Very selective - even elitist - in regard to medical, military, and legal services.

  7. L-7 Simha Surya = bhava-7 = Self-centered Surya = less beneficial in bhava of pair-matched Shukra. Partner may be King of the marriage, often solipsistic in relationships and radiantly confident in one's entitlement to hold the center of attention within a marriage. = V.S. Naipaul (writer) Very selective - even elitist - in regard to partners and advisers.

  8. L-8 Simha Surya = bhava-8 = King of the Mysteries. One may be an important figure in a secret society or in a tantrik setting but the public does not see this bright light. Shrouded in mystery. Often in secret government functions. Very selective - even elitist - in regard to hidden liaisons, secret wealth, confidential information.

  9. L-9 Simha Surya = bhava-9 = King of the Temple, King of the Philosophers, regal Father-figure to the priests. Karako bhavo nashto = strong and overbearing although not as intensely as the uchcha Surya. Very selective - even elitist - in regard to philosophical doctrine and tenets of belief.

  10. L-10 Simha Surya = bhava-10. For the Vrischika lagna, swakshetra Surya can be brilliantly authoritative in karma bhava. Surya-10 seeks high-visibility positions. Leadership style is radiant, regal and entitled. Autocratic, not always successful unless Shani is also well placed. Downside: arrogant, not necessarily aware of the little people at the bottom of the pyramid. Upside: glorious to behold. Very selective - even elitist - in regard to professional placements.

  11. L-11 Simha Surya = bhava-11 creative networking = dramatic center of a network that has no center. Surya is less effective in domains of Shani (10, 11) but still the Simha-Surya is well-connected socially and earns by cult of personality. Often the figurehead or political icon of a community but does not hold political office. = Guru Ammachi. Very selective in regard to personal friendships.

  12. L-12 Simha Surya = bhava-12 creative imagination = one lives like charismatic royalty at the center of attention in one's own mind. Often a bit of a "bedroom diva" Plays the role of foreign royalty quite successfully; is not quite so well admired at home. A legend in one's own mind. Very selective - even elitist - in regard to bedroom, hotel, private arrangements, and foreign assignments.
