Bhagya Surya swabhava = radiates charming, brilliant (Ravi) personal charisma (Surya) in political, royal, entertainment, dramatic, and speculative-intelligence performance roles. Adores the game of politics and will rarely stray from the brilliant lights of the theatrical stage. If some other factors such as Shani in lagna might resist taking social positions of central importance, the native will nonetheless provide important commentary upon the politics of the day.
Naturally seeks center-of-the-center roles.
creative, center-stage specialties include:
The universe seems to revolve around oneself when the native occupies the dramatic center of : exciting, brilliant drama of games-based behaviors, matters of politics, theatre, speculation, royal court, fashion, celebrity, the heart, literature, poetry, performance art, the spouses of one's friends, romance, the enemies of meditation, delightful parties and amusements, the fruits of marriage, children, and the genius of Divine Intelligence
Surya's hot, dry energy in bhava-5 'burns up' wet, reproductive fertility and limits the number of children. May lacks empathy (Chandra) due to the self-reflexive perception that one is always in the center. Ravi = hot and dry. These are antithetical energies for somatic fertility but excellent energy for intellectual creativity. If only Ravi occupies 5 with no other yuti graha, the native may be physically childless. Yet one with a powerful Ravi-5 may be effusively productive of those 'children of the intelligence' which include poems, great political speeches, brilliant performances, books, paintings, theatrical scripts, and splendid celebrity fashion.
Native needs a great deal of attention with applause, for which they perform with high levels of charismatic skill. Splendid placement for
A gifted game-player and often a celebrity teacher-actor of the amuse-the-students type. Never a disciplinarian (Shani); always a charmer.
If the rashi is supportive with good drishti, grows wealthy by market speculation and varieties of gambling. Creative, literary personality. Romantic poetic nature much heightened. Radiates a charming, ego-central personality associated with amusements, poetry, fashion, brilliant performance, empowerment, admiration and praise-praise-praise.
Psychically intolerant of standardized, repetitive processes. Demands entertainments and innovation. Unconventional performance style, if excessive, can be arrogant. Likes to have fun. If less evolved, may have fun at another's expense. Narcissistic tendencies. |

Proportional to the strength of Ravi
Without realizing it, the native is exceptionally self-centered. High levels of creative intelligence but frequently paired with lack of interpersonal empathy.
Surya's vibrant heat-wave burns up Chandra's luscious, cool, sheltered procreativity. Whole or partial sterility for Surya in rashi of Guru, Kuja, Ravi to the extreme point of denying children completely. Unless Guru casts drishti upon bhava-5, there may be few or no children. Surya in a hot rashi such as Mesha, Simha or Dhanau, loves kids but is more likely to have adopted children. Social identification with children and children's political issues. Tendency to develop some variety of messiah-complex especially in regard to matters of children and fostering their creativity.
Guru drishti to bhava-5 will bring children, albeit with complications and delays should there be a difficult graha residing in bhava-5. George Harrison, Jennifer Aniston However if burning-hot arid Surya occupies putra bhava lacking the ray of Vrihaspati, and no compensating drishti from Guru upon Chandra is available, the native will be childless, typically biologically sterile and preference may be to express the native intelligence via creative literature or performance (e.g. teaching) rather than to adopt. If drishti from Rahu, the native will be a gambler. Great position for politics, esp. in hospitable rashi. tremendously idealizing love of children and ability to channel divine intelligence into the world of children. Splendid and creative teacher of youth. If approval is not forthcoming from the father, the native does not feel approved by the divine. This one is capable of channeling a powerful volume of divine intelligence, yet if Surya is too hot, there is karako bhavo nashto in regard to the father as dominating ego-king of the family. [ Michael Jackson] If Surya is too strong, the father may have such a large ego that the native feels one can never fulfill the idealistic expectations of the father, and the native must always "perform" in order to receive approval. May become addicted to the applause of the crowd as a substitute for paternal approval. Karaka for great success in politics and entertainment, driven in part by the native 's compensatory need for applause at political and theatrical performances. he ego can block direct apprehension of divine approval and the native may suffer addiction to human approval. Or when the graha in bhava-9 are highly auspicious and the two bhagya houses are related, demanding father-guru figures may be the motivating force behind enormous stage presence in religious discussion and debate. Agents of approval, admiration, applause = the Father and the Divine. theatrical performance, self-focused entertainments, being at the center of games and amusements = the primary means of gaining ego-validation, attention and approval. |

| Children |
Surya, being extremely self-centered, is not the most favorable influence to have in the house of children. If putra bhava enjoys incoming drishti of Guru, or if L-5 occupies 9, or if Budha occupies 5 along with Ravi in a favorable rashi, then opportunities are increased to reproduce or to acquire children through adoption. Even if children are made manifest, the native will fundamentally perceive the children as an expression first and foremost of one's own self. the native may idealize one's children (which is certainly hard on the children) and expect them to carry out one's one ego programme. Examples:

| In Surya's swabhava Bhava 5 |
In the center of all things romatic: lovers, poetry, drama, literature, gambling, and children. Brilliant political intelligence. The swabhava setting is good for Surya. Yet the blinding bright ego needs to be in the center of love, attracting applause, radiating fame and attention for creativity and charm. Fame is often confused with love. The native may seem childlike, able to receive infinite loving attentions but unable to return the same except in bursts of romantic inspiration - ideally, when the audience is watching! This love isn't really suited to boring, predictable, long-term adult relationships but rather to arts, theatre, literature, drama, fashion, and the royal court. Children may become an idealized extension of the Self. Asserting the perfect divine identity of one's children can result in the native being unable to accept their children as real humans, and even forbid their children from experiencing conformity or failure. Children of the native with Surya-5 must be "special" "brilliant" "chosen". The parent with Surya-5 may be both unduly demanding and over-protective of their offspring. However, such a parent is naturally a politician or dramatist and will be quite happy if the child also develops into a politician or dramatist. Romantic interests are also held to a divine standard, which can block the unfoldment of love and marriage in the realistic context of earthly (Shani) partnerships (Shukra). Shukra and Shani are naturally the permanent enemies of Surya. Good for career in speculative activities such as gambling on new business ventures, casino and theatre business, stock market. Also benefits the mature native who teaches in settings which hold the students to a higher standard of individual intelligence and creativity. Generally however a rather solipsistic individual who struggles to share credit for one's achievements and who craves the kingly, center-stage position in brightly lighted environments. |

| commentary on Surya-5: |
"... a strong placement ... It focuses the intelligence more on learning than material gathering. Usually this limits or denies children. This is favorable for becoming a spiritualist and teaching same.
The Sun works on the consciousness aspect of life rather than on matter or form.
You are sometimes manipulative of others, and you enjoy amassing money. This is favorable for all matters of enterprising nature. The speculative interests are very keen and the capacity for enjoyment, very great. Children are harmed by the Sun in the 5th.
Also, you like to roam in forests and hills, and your mind is very good, though you use it sometimes to cheat others. This Sun is good for learning. Second marriage is partially indicated by this placement also." |
