Remarks.

The 10th is the pivot of the horoscope and its lord should be strong if one's life is to be tolerably happy.

When the 10th lord is in dushthamshas he will lose his vitality and is therefore, said to confer on the native just those qualities which render him insignificant in the eyes of the public.

Harming others, selfishness and gluttony are not qualities conducive to making one virtuous. One who has Duryoga is supposed not to derive the benefits of his own bodily exertions . Duryoga seems to indicate that one would earn his livelihood by manual labour.

of the three dushthamshas, the 12th seems to be the least malefic so far as this Yoga is concerned, because whilst depriving one of the fruits of his labours, it will at least give him noble qualities and Therefore, acertain amount of respect in society. [end quote 300-BVR]

First let it be said, with everlasting respect to eminent Shri B.V. Raman, that this description is so greatly oversimplified as to be potentially misleading.

karmesha in bhava-6 = professional helpers

Foremost please consider that karmesha in satkona may easily predict careers that are dedicated to the relief of human suffering. [6]

Examples of highly honorable [10] intentionally chosen, educated ministries of service [6] include clinical medicine, skilled nursing, allied health-care practices, many forms of praiseworthy SEVA, licensed pharmacy, labor relations, public health, criminal justice, et-cetera.

leadership for reduction of harm

Range of dignified [10] outcomes for Duryoga may include government agents responsible for conducting wars intended to correct injustice [6] + military and police officers who are trained to mitigate harm within situations of conflict [6].

Karmesha-in-bhava-6 does not inherently impugn the character of the native. Quite the opposite. Saintly servants of the suffering may be found via duryoga.

Serve or suffer = the overarching rule of 6th-amsha. Those who choose the high-road of professionalized service [6] may also have some personal puzzles of injury or disease. Nonethless, their social leadership may be greatly respected [10] due to their focus on helping others.

karmesha in bhava-8 = professional transformers

Then please consider that karmesha in 8 similarly may predict rejuvenating surgeons, specialists in healing-poisons [for example, allopathic cancer drugs, medical use of sting-venom] + emergency response first-arrivers, fire-fighters, natural disaster officials, those who professionally handle conditions of terror or catastrophic danger, volcanologists and seismologists who provide public safety [10] regarding explosions, eruptions, mass destruction.

Politically, karmesha in 8 may signal a leader who disrupts generations of oppression by breaking-through to a higher freedom via release of old shackles and embrace of higher power

On the psychic and psychological level, provisioners of sudden interventions, spiritual initiation, trauma exploration and recovery, fresh-starts, rebirth, recovery - all these honorable actions may be found with ruler of 10 in crucible cauldron bhava-8.

karmesha in bhava-12 = professional guiding ghosts

These splendidly modest people maintain the bridge of awareness between material plane and astral plane.

Remarks.

The yoga is a simple one and is quite common. Therefore, one should not rush to ascribe all these results to a horoscope in which Daridra Yoga is present.

When the Lagna is strong and the 11th lord is in the 6th, Daridra Yoga exists nominally. Because, such a disposition whilst rendering the person mean and inclined to pursue sinful activities, will not make him very poor.

Criminal intentions are not the sole monopoly of the poor. The rich are equally culpable to such a tendency because the richer a person the more avaricious he becomes to gain his selfish ends. Generous instincts and the tendency to worship mammon are indeed poles apart.

Once again, more nuanced interpretations are warranted. Firstly, conditions in 11 are determinative. Fortified graha in 11 may grant empowered revenues.

11 also represents Learner's ability to achieve material goals. Although the aims of 11 may be economic, just as often one's measurable attainments can be social-participation causes, mass opportunities, community-wide objectives.

11th-amsha always involves networks, associations, connectivity, systematic investment. Shani's 11 = opposite of the natural self-referential amsha-5. Therefore 11 tends to be socially oriented - not perniciously selfish - unless Surya or ruler-of-5 reside there.

A spiritually aware Learner may choose to dedicate or direct one's earnings [11] toward relief of collective [11] human suffering [6].

Furthermore, income may be gained [11] via the activities of helping 6, transforming 8, or quieting 12 - for example, earnings from human services [6] or healing surgery [8] or hospitals [12].

Naturally, there are plenty of examples of warlords, gangsters, cheaters, grifters, and world-class criminals among the Daridra Yoga nativities. 6 = both cops-and-robbers. 8 = trauma-and-recovery. 12 = clairsentience-and-hallucination.

Before jumping to conclusions based on daridra yoga, check arudha lagna and karakamsha for overall social contribution.

The Yoga comprehends two combinations, viz.,

(2) the weak ascendant lord occupying a trine or a quadrant. It is a general astrological precept that when the ascendant lord joins a trine or a quadrant he acquires vitality.

When he is weak, by which term is implied that his shadbala pinda (sum total of strength) falls short of the requisite quantity, the distinction attached to location in a kendra or thrikona is lost.

It is found in actual practice that the lordship of the 12th is less malefic than that of the 6th or 8th and hence when the Lord of Lagna and 12th join, the affliction expresses itself more in the nature of financial stress than in terms of Dehakashita or Rogagrastha Yogas.

One born under this combination will not have a healthy constitution. It will lack the requisite power of resistance so that the native falls an easy prey to disease. a large number of dry vargas or divisions such as Rasi, Hora, etc."

Remarks.

Dry signs are

  • Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Leo, Virgo and Sagittarius.

Dry planets are

  • the Sun, Mars and Saturn.

Mercury may also be held to be a dry planet for all practical purposes.

The same result can be judged if the Lagna and the lord have acquired a large number of dry vargas or divisions, such as Rashi, Hora, etc. "

  • Lord of Lagna and the planet, in whose Navamsa the Lord of Lagna is placed, should occupy watery signs (114).

  • The Lagna must be occupied by Jupiter or he must aspect the Lagna from a watery sign (115).

  • The ascendant must fall in a watery sign in conjunction with benefics or the ascendant lord must be a watery planet (116).

Remarks.

Possessing a strong body is different from having an unwieldy and corpulent appearance.

In the above three combinations, by dehasthoulya is meant stoutness of the body and has no reference to a well-built or strong physical appearance.

Watery signs are

Cancer, Aquarius, Capricorn, Pisces, Scorpio and Libra,

and the watery planets are

the Moon and Venus.

Of course, Mercury and Jupiter are also water resorters and a predominance of the water element in regard to Lagna or lagnadhipathi would invariably make the person corpulent.

As a child, JS family moved from one failing farm to the next within New England, then after his revelations moved his followers from one town to the next from New York to Ohio to Illinois where he died age 35. The believers were often driven out of settlements.

lagnesha [Shukra-Karkata] [10] owns Tula lagna + Mesha svamsha

born into a patrician family that was respected but impoverished, Julius moved from urban house to house within Roma. As soon as his military career began, he was continuously on the move from one part of Empire to the next, until decease age-56.

Remarks.

The combination referred to above is very common in the horoscopes of travelling agents, diplomats, and globe-trotters.

If both the Lagna and the Navamsha Lagna are in movable signs, the subject would hardly confine himself to any particular locality. On the contrary, he will always be moving about.
